2014 Mazda 3 part 25

There's been a case in the papers about Aviva before. The guy changed his rims and didn't inform the Aviva. When he made the claim, they found out and even though the accident had nothing to do with the modification they refunded him his premium and terminated his insurance because if he had declared, they would not have quoted. Aviva takes very strict views on this, they only want to cover stock car.

You better read your insurance clauses and cal your insurer if your unsure. Do not assume, because when you really have an accident, assuming will be too late already if they pull a stunt like that on you.

Like I said it is up to the owner whether he or she wants any new added parts to be covered. Otherwise insurer will just assume the stock conditions of the car. It has nothing to do with voiding insurance unless the added parts contributed to the accident. This is not something new. Don't tell me you gonna call your insurer for every little things you install in your car like dash cam, skuff plates, boot lid, phone charger??

The OP was talking about installing fog lights and I am just giving my two cents. Whether you really want to call your insurer if you add a dash cam, skuff plates etc is up to individual's judgement. Your car anyway.

I am not sure where to check out the free 3 years map update status.

I went to mazda-na-naviextras.com, create account, run Toolbox. It has a portion that sales "click here" for free 3 year map update, which when I click it come out no free contents...

There are no new updates anyway....

Should we assume it is 3 years then...:)

In the Mazda Toolbox you will see something like this after registration. The free subscription period is indicated below.

Not sure about you guys. But I feel generally these in-car built-in navigation is a hassle. Actually, the Mazda sales told me for this navigation device, i can update my own map easily and just slot in the memory card?! Doesn't sound that true from you guys description.

Usually, I'll just wire up a Garmin navigator. Works flawlessly for me for past 10 years. But now with google maps + mobile phone, think I'll just use this instead. The only problem is iphone connector and android is different... so still thinking how to wire up so that both myself & wife can use our own phones

BTW, i'm tempted by the Blackvue 2-CH. Can get online much cheaper and get a workshop to wire it up for me. Anyone any good ppl to recommend for this? was quoted like $200 for 2-CH wiring.

It is that easy, slot in the SD card into the notebook and it will update automatically. At least that is for my Renault (Tom Tom) but from what I could see from Mazda Toolbox, it is similar.

We are just trying to determine where it will says 3 year free updates.

That doesn't sound normal. I don't hear any 'clak' sounds in my car.

The engine is very loud like trying to bring up the engine temperature once the ignition is started during the first drive of the day, it goes away after under 30 secs. That's all I notice...

I remember read it somewhere on the owner manual, (online manual post by one of the bro here), can drive off after you stop hearing the high rev. And the indicator blue light is the coolant temp light. The owner manual say it's alright to move of with cool coolant. No need to waste fuel.

Start & go not very advisable if you want to minimize engine wear. Over night, all the oil has settled, you need to let it warm up so that oil is properly circulated as well as for engine to reach an optimal temperature for better performance.

    It can be
    1. Impulsive buy.
    2. Rich kid buy.
    3. Car got into big accident, quietly repair and restore to like new condition to sell off. Cos most alignment will be out even after repair and will give problems in near future.

Just drive off 'normally' even if the blue light is not off. Driving off normally = 2-3k rpm which is also the same as the warming up rpm..don't just step on it and rev hard driving off. The warming up is a sequence to heat up the catalytic converter so as to meet exhaust emission standards. In Singapore context..the engine is already 'warm up' compared to cold countries...Manual already says so...unless you are the engineer who design the engine to overwrite it.

Mine doesn't seem to have that problem. Could it possibly be your wiper blades and windscreen starting to get dirty?

Normally I do the following routine when streaks or wiper not wiping the screen well:

    1) Clean and wash wiper blades and windscreen with mama lemon (dishwashing liquid).

    2) Wipe windscreen dry then spray glass cleaner (household window/glass cleaner liquid).

    3) Wipe windscreen dry of glass cleaner liquid.

I try to do this at least every 2 weeks. See whether this helps you.

Hope its b'cos of that & they are expanding the ws. I only goto Leng Kee. Better not end up like VW.

    Mine is a sedan.

Radio reception was perfect before this servicing, even in the MCE. My family were all commenting on how good it is (was) and the sound is(was) pretty goo

Ya. The thing they added in was the video cam which was not installed during collection as the SE forgot to include it in the work order.

Just now, I remove the power and off the video cam, but the reception/sound is till bad

I have the same problem when I fix my video cam. Its the noise generated in the USB power cord. If its connected to your 12V car power plug at you console, can unplug it. I added an iron ferrous core to the power cord to remove the noise.

Its caused by a noisy 5V power supply.

    Hi

    Thanks for the tip.

I do not remember seeing a car adaptor in my console but I will validate it again tomorrow. If there is, I will remove it and see whether that solved the problem.

For the Ferrite core, where did you install it?...at the video cam side or car adaptor side?

After that, radio reception super poor...sigh...got to go back again tomorrow morning

And for the subscription issue (or rather no subscription issue), its into a wall. They dunno what to do except to wait for next update and then see how

My SE says the 1 year subscription is for theMapCare (real time updates or real life traffic condition). Map updates is 3 years... I saw the screenshot posted by one of the bros online, his subscription shows 3 years leh.....

Yah, when I was there I asked the maintenance folk and they confirm it is 3 years map update.

I did ask him how come some bros shows 1 year and it is the same story...when the next update is available, it will be updated to 3 years. Real or not, I dunno. Cause in my case, there isn't any subscription status at all!...other than they have recognise my SD card and knew when it started...

Guess all I can do is wait....

Installation of video cam to look nice ( no wire dangling ) is actually not properly done by the workshops.

I had the same problem with my previous cars.

So I made an effort to watch how the power was tapped. The common way is to get a wire with the power ( from the battery ), use an NT cutter to slice carefully the insulation. Then the video cam power cord plug is cut off. The wire is then joined to the power wire by tying it through the slit. Cover with electrical tape. How long will that crude connection last is anyone's guess. If it is on the floor of the car, just imagine getting water on it.

It is for that reason I decided to bear with the dangling wire. The Mazda 3's two power outlets in the central hand rest, is a blessing as I have both front and back video cams.

    Talking about kiasu..............hehehehhehehehh

I find the rear cam a blessing when it comes to tail-gaters, especially the buses and lorries. Caught a bus driver giving me the middle finger when I overtook it from the left as it was travelling on rightmost lane. The bus company apologised and requested I not put it on the net.

It was also useful when a Caucasian knocked into my car at the checkpoint during a congestion, to prevent a car from entering the queue. No serious damage, but enough to scare him to stop after clearing the checkpoint, instead of driving off.

Must be neater indeed. Somehow got used to the dangling wire, since the last car, also a Mazda 3. But that was when the COE was just $13,500 . This one is $61+k. Heart pain.

Its probably more unlikely to void warranty if you tap from fuse box vs direct from battery. I think Mz has contractors who sell & install car cams at the ws.

If you have constant pwr supply cable, then you need to connect the wire to the slot which has pwr supply even when car if off, otherwise, connect to the slot which has no pwr. You can test it with a test pen (12V). You spice the wire to a fuse & slot in.

For the front cam, I run the wire to the left (there's a gap btw ceiling & glass) down the A piilar (remove the door rubber) & into the fuse box.

For the rear cam, I run wire on the top (remove the door rubber for front & back) until the A pillar & down.

I installed 2 separate switches at the driver side, for ease of switching on/off, in case I don't want 24 hr monitoring.

It maybe clearer if you look for Youtube vidoes on the entire process.

Thanks very much. Will search for the YouTube videos and ask the WS for the contractor. That way it'llbe moreassured that warranty would not be void.

Will also see if the contractor would do the right thing.

It depends on your estimated COE during purchase and how much reserve they are putting for you every bid. Best to work out the sum. If 4 more failed bids, you might have to fight with those who tries to avoid the CEVs revision.

I don't think they are reasonably priced. When Corvit the Korean distributor was selling their v7s during the IT show, $229 + 50 installation, they were selling at $300++. But worst part was I got a different quote from each person from the shop. And one of the quotes were different prices for SUV and a sedan. As if it is a lot more difficult to install the cam on a SUV.

Anyway, the v7 isn't a highly recommended cam. A lot of the reviews are by clones.

The coolant mixture is actually a form of oil (usually in the grade of 5W) and water of average ratio of anywhere between 30-70% water/oil. The coolant acts as a form of lowering the heat of the mixture in the coolant tank (i.e.: Preventing the water from boiling), but it does not help in dissipating heat.

There should usually be no need to top-up the coolant, but the coolant mixture should be changed once every two years at the very least. You should advise or request for your service center to change it. I usually will get the premixed solution, as most service center I suspect usually uses tap-water instead of distilled water. This will rust the radiator over time.

Eerrr..... coolant does not contain oil bro. Its water and a chemical glycol compound. 5W is the winter grade of engine oil, not coolant, think u mixed up liao...

Our Mz3 uses a new type of longlife FL22 coolant that can last 200,000km or 10 years. Better don't touch it as it can last for very very long.

Modern car do not use water as coolant. So please take note never to use water to top up the coolant compartment. In general, coolant should not leak. If it does, get it fixed. So yah, no need for regular top-up. During servicing, they will check if sufficient coolant.

Also, coolant does not contain oil. It usually is blu-ish in color. You can buy it at most petrol stations i believe although i've nvr bought one myself for last 10+ years.

The only "water" top-up is for your wiper liquid. Then again, i notice in modern cars, most ppl top up with some soap-ish kind of liquid... Once again, for last 10+ years, i've never top-up wiper liquid... since servicing they will top up for me.

You can guess my age saying this, but ever since i've a modern cars 10+ years ago, i've nvr really had a reason to open the bonnet myself ... so what i know really is from long ago, where more hands-on is required.

Its has park mode recording which will record after you park car but that is limited by how long your battery is discharge til a certain voltage. Abt 3-4 hrs when battery is fully charged.

It has motion sensor mode recording which motion will trigger recording 20s before and after incident.

Currently both park mode and motion sensor mode is on togethe and cannot select just motion sensor mode. This will save battery and record only when sensor is activated.

I use the software provided to change the voltage cutoff to 12V, it will last the whole day, but if you don't intend to drive for one day, best to plug it out, or else later cannot start car jialat.. Anyway I don't really trust the volt meter, dunno how accurate it is, i think if drive everyday for an hour should be okay.

The problem is that it records even when there is no motion... lol. Sometimes there is a minute break then it starts recording.

I agree with you on having doubts with the voltage cutoff. I have software setting, the constant pwr supply installed also comes with voltage setting, nonetheless, I still don't trust, so I install a switch to control, depending on where I park. A separate one each for front & back.
