After the test drive, SE texted me this morning, asking me to confirm the order, else after tmr's COE bidding, all the offers (warranty, free servicing, camera and solar film) will be changed.....

Any truth of this??? COE price will affect their profit margin???

Any truth? Yes, in fact think about it, any time they want to change offers or free gifts they can right? So what is the SE's intention of texting u this? Your SE probably wants to lock in your sale before the COE bidding (to hit his monthly target???). Now you can try to text your SE what ADDITIONAL things he can offer you to get you sign on the dotted line before COE bidding tml....

COE....profit margin?? Again, yes. The reason I am saying this is because I know of someone working at the back office and sometimes spike in COE can hurt their margin badly. After all they sell you at fixed price without first getting a COE for you right. So yup, it will hurt their margin.

Sounds like you are a first time buyer like myself (a few months back). If you are not signing now, and your SE remove the freebies tomorrow, simple. Just walk away go to other dealers next door. Then text him what his competitor is offering you...

Ya, this is my first time getting a new car. That's why really know nothing about what COE rebate, freebies, etc.....

Have been driving 2nd hand cars for the past many years, which involves simpler transaction.

    Bro rider83 is correct.

As long as the money in your pocket is your money. You decide what you want, of coz, SE will entice you to buy but you have the bargaining power in this situation. So maximize it if you have decided.

    Happy negotiating bro... [rolleyes]

Just take the SE words with a pinch of salt. All these freebies are pretty much standard stuff that they'll throw in. My SE also told me to lock in the price now as the price was going to increase the following week but I waited and the price did not increase.

Basically its all sales talk. The SE is trying to close and secure the deal sooner.

Like what rider83 said, use this opportunity to ask for more freebies to close the deal now.

I would have thought getting 2nd hand car more troublesome, many things to check and lemon laws and such..

Speaking of COE rebate, just check what amount they put inside your contract. To put it simple, the higher the COE rebate the better for you, because they have to refund you the difference if they ended up getting lower COE than what is stated in your contract.

Yes, its true. But SE is assuming COE will go up.

If it comes down, then u will probably buy the car at a lower price!

Yep. Thats the trend in the future. And i Like it.

That is because we are trying to keep our cars running longer on the roads. The older our cars get, the more problems our cars start to have due to wear and tear issues. Sigh only the super rich can afford new car luxury nowadays.

    hi all....heard of balloon scheme?

Balloon scheme is higher interest rate.
Lower monthly repayment, but still same amount of downpayment.
At the end of 5 years need to pay the lump sum of the car paper value.

Basically its just delaying your payment of the 5 years paper value but the bank will still calculate the interest of it.

    hi all....heard of balloon scheme?
any idea what is this....offered by Mazda AD to my colleaual recently..

Ballon scheme means the take into account of your car scrape value (on the scenario whereby you drive this car for full 10 years ), then minus this scrape value from your car total cost.

you can refer to the below for more info on various type of "Scheme" :

    1. Overtrade

This is a practice commonly used by authorised car dealers, to help customers reduce the amount of downpayment they have to pay. Lets use an illustration to explain:

Ms Lee wants to buy a car that costs $100,000. Because the car loan can only cover up to 60% of the price, it means that shell need to come up with a downpayment of at least $40,000.

However, say the dealer offers an overtrade of $10,000. This means that the purchase price is artificially inflated to $110,000. Subsequently, the 40% downpayment amount should be $44,000. However, because of the overtrade, the downpayment amount is actually less $10,000 or $34,000. The dealer has saved Ms Lee $6,000.

So whats the catch? Because the purchase price was artificially inflated, it means that the car loan amount has also increased. Using the illustration above, it has increased from $60,000 to $66,000. Assuming an interest rate of 1.6%, this means that Ms Lee has to pay about $100 more each month over a 5 year tenure. This might be more than Ms Lee can afford.

Even if she can afford it, it will also affect her Total Debt Servicing Ratio or TDSR. Remember that TDSR rules means that Singaporeans wont be able to borrow more than 60% of their monthly income. Even though its only an extra $100, this could restrict Ms Lee from getting a larger home loan, later on.

    2. Invoice Inflation

This is a practice sometimes found with second-hand car dealers. What these dealers do is claim they can offer you an in-house car loan that covers a higher proportion of your purchase price. This is normally 70% to 80% of the purchase price, but some may even be advertising a 100% loan.

Now, heres where it gets insidious. Invoice inflation means that the seller inflates the value of the car in order to obtain a higher loan amount from the bank. Say the car only costs $100,000. Officially you can only get a loan of $60,000 from the bank. However, if the seller inflates the value to say $150,000, then the bank can give you a loan of $90,000. This is 90% of the original purchase price, which means you only need to pay a downpayment of 10%.

So whats the catch? The value of the car may be artificially inflated to a point where the bank is unable to issue the loan, because your monthly income is not high enough. Trying to find that sweet spot between how much the bank is willing to loan and how much of a downpayment you can afford should be a pretty strong hint that you might not be able to afford that car on your salary.

    3. Balloon scheme

This practice is offered by some financial institutions, especially for used cars. Even though they charge a higher interest rate for the in house car loan, you end up paying less each month. What they do is subtract the scrap value of your car from the loan amount before calculating the lower monthly repayment. This may seem like an extremely good idea, but lets see exactly how it works:

Lets take the illustration of a used car costing $50,000. Assuming you take out a car loan of 60% of the amount with an interest rate of 1.6% over 5 years.

The total you can expect to pay is $52,400, or $540 a month.

In the balloon scheme, the scrap value is deducted from the loan amount. The scrap value is determined by the PARF rebate and is determined by the age of the car at de-registration. Lets assume the used car only qualifies for the minimum PARF rebate of 50% of the ARF paid or about $7,000.

Lets assume the car loan is paid at an interest rate of 2.8% over 5 years.

The total you can now expect to pay is $54,200. However, after deducting the $7,000 scrap value of the car, thats only $47,200 or only about $453 a month.

Thats a difference of $87, or about 16% less each month. This lower amount could make all the difference to your TDSR, especially when youre trying to take out a home loan.

So whats the catch? To enjoy the benefits of this scheme, you must have driven the car until its ready to be scrapped. Thats the only way you can be assured of having the money to pay off the minimum PARF rebate at the end of the loan. If, for some reason, youre in need of money and need to get rid of the car earlier, you may not only face higher penalties for early repayment, youll still have to keep paying off the loans higher interest rate.

Ya, this is my first time getting a new car. That's why really know nothing about what COE rebate, freebies, etc.....
Have been driving 2nd hand cars for the past many years, which involves simpler transaction.

    Mr Tan,

    I had the same experience!

If I could do it again,
    I'll request for,
Accessories -solar film, car camera (add reverse recording as well), sports pedal, car mat.
More trade in value for the current car(ask for additional discount if you trade in your Altis)
    Servicing-up to 5 years or 100km (3yrs or 60km for more discount)
Go for deluxe to save the hassle of doing additional stuff outside
Try asking- 18" rims, body kit

Truthfully, you have an advantage if you don't show your hand.
Tell the salesperson you'd prefer to get the Altis because you're very comfortable with its reliability and having test driven it, you're extremely satisfied.
Say they're offering you additional discount for trading in an Altis as well.
The only reason why you'd get the Mazda is only if the salesperson gives you the right deal.

Don't let the salesperson smoke you that he will take away the freebies. Someone else will offer the basic stuff

If you paiseh to negotiate then GG!

Just to confirm with other Mazda 3 owners here. Been driving my new MZ3 for a couple of days. When I start the engine in the morning when it's "cold", the engine produces loud noises with a slight rattle. My RPM also moves to a slightly higher range. Is the car trying to warm up on its own?

Sorry if this question might sound dumb but I was driving a 2006 lao pok kimchi car prior to my current ride.

Yes. You will also see a blue light indicator as well. Your RPM will also be above 1k.

Typically, I will wait for the RPM to drop to below 1k before I drive off. The blue indicator will still be on though, so I drive light footing, keep my rpm as low as possible until the blue indicator is gone. To be honest, after blue indicator is gone, I also cannot rev hard because I would be in a traffic jam anyway.... Haha

Mine is papago too. So far so good I think. Only having my car close to 2 mths, i cant say much about papago's reliability. My front camera is hidden by the rear mirror from driver's end, so I cant see if it is working. My wife says it is recording so should be still working lolz...

The front camera resolution is good, can see front vehicle car plate about 10 metres away. Rear camera has lower resolution, so need the car to get nearer to yours before the car plate can be captured nicely. Storage is about 2 days or so before it gets overwritten, but this largely depends how much you drive each day.

Not much complaints about this brand, it is just a camera. Its usefulness only comes with u encounter an accident, which I hope it does not happen to fellow bros here.

Its usefulness only comes with u encounter an accident, which I hope it does not happen to fellow bros here.

had the same car cam from my SE. using for 1month. so far so good.
currently still trying to get it power up with my powerbank battery when car engine is switch off...
got an extended mini usb cable to route out to powerbank, but cannot power up the camera. not sure why.
read the papago cam manual, it say need on 1A to power it...hmmm...maybe i will go try with a lower output powerbank soon.
else the cam is pretty much easy to use. simple basic function.

Haha

roughly for mine....it takes abt 1.5minutes to 2.5minutes for the blue light indicator to go off.. so probably can self gauge from here..see how long u want to wait.

You have to make sure the battery is supplying the correct output voltage and has current more than the camera.

If the camera needs 12V, but your battery pack supplies 5V, then its not enough. If the camera needs 5V but the battery pack supplies 12V, it might burn your camera.

Putting the voltage aside, if the camera needs 1A to run and the battery pack can only output 0.5A, then it cant run too.

The camera only draws enough current to power itself. Hence if the ouput is less than 1A, it doesnt power the camera. The output needs to be more than 1A. Having a greater current output wont damage the camera.

    Hi Bros,

This is my first time going to own a car and I would like to find out/need advice from you guys. The question may be silly but hope can have kind soul to enlighten me.

I went to Mazda Ubishowroom 2 weeks ago. Quite like M3 but only Standard version is within my budget and intend to place a booking soon.

I read from somewhere thatcar buyercan ask for freebies such as car mat and solar film. But other than that, what other freebies can I ask for?

Honestly I like the fog light/lampand reverse camera that Deluxe version has, will I sound and look stupid in front of the salesperson if I am going to ask the salesperson whether I can have that 2 items? Or can I ask for further discount, if not?

If I install fog light/lamp and reverse camera from elsewhere, will the warranty be void?

    Thank you in advance!

How is your dash cam to power bank cable connection, can explain in details?

I read somewhere that actually we can use cellink B Battery, the input of the battery connect to the car cigar port, then the output of the battery connect to the dash cam.

This setup will enable the battery to be charge while the car is running and when the engine is turn off, the dash cam will use the battery power for parking mode. Will not void the car warranty as no hard wire to the car fuse.

Any bros use this set up ? Can comment on how long it can survive in parking mode?

    Hi future bro (lolz),

I don't find your question silly. Car mat and solar film are pretty much the standard items, u are not supposed to ask for them, however you should check that they will give you.

If I am not wrong, the key selling point for the deluxe is the moon roof and reverse camera. Perhaps you can negotiate to give up some not-so-useful-to-you freebies in exchange for the reverse camera?

Just a suggestion above. Before you sign on the dotted line, u are the king. Try whatever you can.

    Good luck!

I was offered the free front+back camera, brand is Papago. I dont see much reviews, anyone has the free one from Mazda, can share which model it is?

Seems like mainly hear blackvue and thinkware in the forums and online search, not sure if Papago is good/reliable?

I use the Papago for few months now, do check the memory card storage size and your recording size, mine can only store 1 day of reocrding so if you need to a recording from 1-2 days back, it should have been replaced. So if there is any important recording, do download it within the day.

I have one question about the free in-car camera.

My SE told me it's by Philip, but a lot of bros here said theirs are papago......

So they give two different brands of camera??

By the way, I am thinking of asking the SE to give me other things or discount a bit of the car price, so that I could install blackvue camera through other workshop, possible to do that?
