The chicken wing standard dropped. Not as good as before.

Just ate there on Tuesday.
Old man and old lady selling at the market? I also bought from there often.

yes. I've been binge watching on toggle.
Very good documentary about the hawker/small restaurants passing down to each generation. All stores with about 20 and more year history.
Just back from work ...
I am so tired that I have no appetite for food ...
So, come in here to just look at photos... :)

Hope tomorrow my appetite will be back... I hope I can recover the craze for food ....

Not only the chicken wing standard drop, most of their food standard drop.
Last time their chicken wing taste seems to have the prawn paste taste, now like don't have.
Long time ago they also sell laksa which is very nice, now also no more.
And the coffee is completely different....
Thats exactly what i told my Mrs earlier. No kidding!

Only their almond cake is still same standard.

I usually eat their meatballs, a plain pasta or salmon lasagna (but sometimes bit oily, cant finish) + chicken wings and their cake.
i thought i was the only one. Yeah, the wings and meatballs certainly do not have the SHIOK factor now ......

And lately they even stopped giving ice

Read with concern; think you recovered not too long ago from a bout of illness?
Better re examine your lifestyle & food intake to improve your health status.

seriously don't bother eating their salmon. They bake it until too dry liao.
They bake in batches, so definitely they will bake longer to ensure the thickest piece is cooked.
U need to cook yourself cos it only takes 5-10 more mins to overbake a salmon.

Very true. I always bake about 85 - 90% cook when remove from the oven.
When outside, the heat itself on those cook portion will make the inner part completely cook. And it will remain juicy.
I had that some years ago for a long period till I decided to exercise moderation and to exercise.
We still do restaurant hop once in a while but cut down to only one to two dishes per venue. Space out the interval as long as we can afford. We can eat, do marketing then eat again. My son often says:"hah!? eat again!?"
Of course, the kids still eat regularly on weekdays - only over weekends that can be very elastic.

One word ... "yummy" :)
Thought I'd be given a "raincoat"...
Anyway, not bad becos oil was used unsparing-ly on the dishes. I know it's not easy to cook white vermicelli but this is not good.
At least they were sincere with the oil and stuffing for the fried spring roll. Some deep fried food out there appear as if diesel was used instead.
My favourite vegetarian stall remains as the one at Shun Fu hawker centre. Not the one in the inner side but the one further away from the car park lift whereby you can see the trunk road. Sorry, can't recall the name...

Ah lam abalone noodle also very good. People might think it is overprice, but compared to ramen, I thought the price is okay. I always tell them to add more pork lard cube(free must be good) for full flavour.

The water crest with mixed ball soup that you ordered also my favourite.

Just to add, in the foodcourt, there is one stall selling hotplate and claypot. The hotplate curry chicken noodle that use the Lor Mee kind of thick noodle really very shiok. Leave it a while for it to bubbles away and the curry sauce become thicker and nice.

What more, Wee Nam Kee chicken rice is there. One of the best roast chicken rice in Singapore, hard to beat.

Had lunch at Boon Tong Kee Balestier yesterday with my parents at a nearby columbarium.
Kids in tow with lots of barang barang and crowded restaurant, so forgot to take photos.

Long queue. Waited 30mins for our turn, blissfully had aircon to stave off the heat.

Ate the bai zhan ji + rice and their deep fried tofu.
I like their rice. Less margarine taste compared to say 925 Yishun.
Always liked their deep fried tofu, been years since i had it. Very nice thin layer of fried flour over soft tofu. Always a nice dish to have at Boon Tong Kee.

But the original Boon Tong Kee at balastier is better than their other outlets.
Yeah thats right!

I concur. Never bother with other BTK when the flagship has the best to offer. CSL is very good too.
Besides the chicken and soft bean curb as mentioned, must also try the super fresh and soft oyster oil kai lan, bbq char siew, sweet and sour pork.
I usually go after 1pm on weekdays or before 6pm on weekends to avoid the crowd. I'd go to the hawker centre next to it if kena Tourists crowd. Plenty of nice food there too.
Kids usually don't like vegi but the soft and tasty kai lan my kids would swipe the plate clean.
fine dining is like that one
So, the one other con of fine dining, besides the hefty pricing, is one would be confined to small space and portion?
Finally able to eat a decent nice lunch , after almost 1 week of healthy food

If a average chicken rice stall does it, it's very tasteless.
If it's done by a good chicken rice stall, it's still ok to me.

I enjoy the different aspects of chicken rice bah. the rice, chilli, soya sauce etc.
Of course if kaki jiak, i refuse breast meat usually.
Actually i only can't stand deep fried chicken breast. Haha go Texas, always ask them for no breast meat.

Yup, thats another stall with long queue
Tomorrow I shall try the (stall name) tiong bahru 5 spice deep fried fritters at the same place. It's closed today...in mid week??
Back to the nasi ayam...the rice is good with almost no oil. The soup is good too with no oil at all but it's a little on the spicy side though no pepper taste, more like ginger.
The coloured ginger is just a gimmick...chilly is hot so go easy at first.
That Thai style milk tea is heaven. It has that strong fragrant tea leaves you can find easily in batam and bintan plus a very special aroma which I suspect is the "bird nest" drink one can find at pasar malam. So it's a home-made mixed of speciality.
Subjectively, not reasonably priced at $6 inclusive of the drink given that small portion. I can get better deal at any chicken rice stall at maxwell food centre for a lot more yet pay a lot lesser.

I am never a fan of such curry rice, Hainanese or Japanese. I like my rice dry, semi-hard and every grain is not stick to each other. Thatz why I never like porridge too.
