Went past Ya Kun at Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong today. Wife suggested that we go and try.

Order these few things which you will not find anywhere in Ya Kun in Singapore

First off, I have to say the quality of the food is LOUSY . Absolutely disappointed with the food. The rice of the chicken rice is ok. Had a tinge of ginger and chicken broth. A bit too moist. The chicken.... arggh.... tough tough meat with hardly any flavour.

�

Then the nasi lemak. Again, rice is too moist. Not fragrant as coconut milk not enough. The chicken wing was ok. The chilli not as good as I hope but acceptable.

�

The teh... so so...

Still got ramen for the soup. Ok Lah. My family all light eater.
But for those no meat cannot one, will be not suitable. BB sure not suitable for her. Causes a lot of vege.

Actually you can get the ready-made Bijin soup base ($6.90 or $7.90 per pack) at Isetan or Meidi-ya. Then get those cut chicken pieces or sliced pork belly. Add lots of vegetable and mushrooms. You can have your own mean Nabe for less than $50 to feed 4. There are recipes available at Isetan for different type of Jap nabes. Invest in a good stove and claypot. And be adventurous wih the sauces and dip, look for them in the jap sauce section.

I'm not exactly a meat eater. I mostly eat chicken and fish. I rarely eat beef, pork, lamb and the likes. I don't eat seafood. Neither do I eat all the organ stuff from animals.

�

I'm not a fussy eater either. I can survive on fried rice, wanton noodles etc.�

�

When I'm caught eating beef or pork my friends actually go WOW.�
