2014 Mazda 3 part 69

You can test drive as many times you want before you commit. No obligation .But from the same SE. After you test drive and didn't commit, normally the SE will follow up with your interest. Since you read thru 400pgs you might know who got a good SE here. Get the SE contact from the bro here to save your trouble. Finally if you dun like the SE who serve you, go to another showroom to start all over again.( Mazda showroom locate Ubi and leng Kee).

I don't think can start all over again by going different branch. Buyer name will be tagged to SE once test drive input into their database.

Good idea. :a-m1212: Let me know if you managed to get it done.

Don't think will do it now. My leg has found the sweet spot... I mean right foot. Lol

Sometime i wonder, iStop feature is to save fuel when car stops at traffic light.

However, the separate battery for iStop cost $300 from AD. Taking a daring assumption that from outside workshop can get at $150 and the battery will last 3 yrs...

Will the fuel saving feature of iStop can saves more than $150 for 3 yrs? :a-confused:

You are probably right that fuel saving is minimal compared to cost of battery. I think is this a 'Green' effort to be env friendly. I hope you are right abt battery lasting upto 3 yrs, i was told upto 2 yrs

I didn't try that. If never fully depress, car will still come to a complete stop?

I always Cldt get the i-stop to trigger until I have to conscientiously press harder to trigger Hahah. Else I always put to neutral den suddenly it oso trigger Hahahah

Ahxiu40, do you still experience the 'clanking' sound whilst going over hump during rainy days?

I had my bushings changed last mth during 20k svc. still experience it though less frequent and softer 'clank' sound.

U can fully depress before coming to a stop. When almost stopping let go a bit. In this way iStop will not be activated.

U need to find the sweet spot... Lol

Ahhhh. so when the car eventually 'stops', you let go abit and the car will still be fully stationery right? :S

I can still hear the sound sometimes, only on wet day and a certain height of hump and speed more than 30km/h. Seems like we are the last 2 guys with this defect..

Haha... No green effort bro... Imagine another battery to be disposed. Its more or less as harmful than CO2.

My definition of "let go a bit" means dont depress fully. But u r still braking. So car will still stop.

Btw at car park slope i can control without activating iStop when i stop for barrier to ooen or close... And of course, won't roll backwards... Lol

    Haha... Not permanent silence it.
But rather, make it work in the reverse way.
That means without doing anything when u start the car, iStop is deativated.
But when u need it, u activate iStop to work.

another way is to set aircon temp low.. like 22 or lower.. istop wont be working usually cos compressor working hard.. lol

True... but even brands like Philips is MIC... It really depends on luck when buying stuffs online. Even branded items can be a lemon but at least got warranty. But I'm still with buying online... Just like my Itronics car camera which I bought from Qoo10 w/o warranty... so far using for 5 yrs and still working... local seller selling for twice the amount... even if suay suay kenna a faulty unit, I can still afford to buy 1 more. haha.

Tao bao many imitation and inferior quality..

Actually the lag is not that bad lah... almost instantaneous. It was stated as 0.35s... The only time I am affected is when I'm at a non-signalisedT-junction with a down slope... When the road is clear, I release brake and immediately turn my steering wheel but feel very hard coselectric steering haven't kick in yet. But that is just a fraction of a sec so still ok.

Show of hands, how many of you are affected by the istop? The lag time seemed to be 1-2seconds during my test drive. How you guys manage that? Just let go the brake and let car inch forward? hah

I don't feel the lag at all for iStop (maybe old alr so the need for speed not so important anymore haha). I do feel the lag when the gear switch when revving though. (contradiction to the earlier comment about being old).

Anyway, the iStop is made to restart the engine almost instantaneously. The pistons align themselves when you stop so that the ignition(?) causes an almost instant move-off. Please correct me if I'm wrong; saw and read these online. YouTube is your friend.

Totally agree on the lag in gear change after revving. Especially after making a u turn or turn after slip road. Compared to my previous ride, I'm not very used to the loud engine when there is a lag in gear change. Sometimes I find myself stepping the accelerator harder so that the gear changes. Do you do that too?

Instead of touching the seat belt switch, you might as well "short" the cable of iStop switch and make it permanently "close". Or maybe if possible, change the connection for the iStop switch and make it "normally close", in this way, you can still press the same button to off it if necessary.

BTW, "normally close" (with light on the switch) that means off/disable iStop.... sorry if it sounds complicated. haha

Steady la bro. Reminds me of school leh. Haha

Yes, just a matter of getting use and how to control your right foot. Now i enjoy having this feature though...

When i reach traffic light and know its going to be a long wait, i will press harder to activate iStop.
If knowing traffic towill turn green soon, i apply less pressure on my right foot so that iStop will not be activated.

The low end torque is not fantastic. If you floor the accelerator it will drag the gear to get more power. The trick is to regulate accelerator pressure when you feel the gear change.

the other way around it is switch to manual mode to make the gear change (thats why die hard drivers still prefer manual)

Even in manual, the gears lag - probably cos they're very tall.

Mine is Mazda3 2L version. My last 2 cars were having much higher horsepower and torque than Mazda3 2L, If I chose the 1.5L Mazda3, I might regret. However, the drive is so far so good for this 2.0L version.

Another point is the COE not too much difference between CAT A and B and no CEVS rebate for 2.0L therefore getting a little more money when the car is scrapped.

i beg to diff.. i found the brakes not as responsive as my old korean ride. Not sure is it due to the stainless steel brake hoses that i installed previously or the new brake pads had not completely run in. Will monitor the situation or better still change bbk when the right time comes..

Had anyone upgrade to aftermarket alarm system? I am finding the default car system a sore.. No auto lock door function.. it is amazing to find out that safety is not mazda priority. the only con that i find in this mazda 3..

I don't think it is Mazda problem rather than our country's unique coe problem that causes our AD not to offer those safety devices that Mazda provides in the aim of reducing cost for AD so that they can sell the car.

i like the silver skinny wording too. wanted to do an aluminium emboss set (front and back), but i believe all aluminium will come with a silver margin (not the frame itself), and that would interrupt the looks of the front. i'm ok with the current plastic plates where the black background blends into the grille... if can find an aluminium that does that it'll be perfect.

I just brake normally and when is is just fully stopped, I'llease the brake paddle justa little bit so iStop wont kick in and yet its safe to braking. Just need to get use to the rhythm. :D

Ah I didn't know it was different for different people. Just saw my agreement... 3 years or 60k, whichever comes first.

Change of topic... Has anyone changed interior lights to LED? 2x vanity, 2x map, 1x dome, 1x boot. I was at Auto back, I saw festoon bulb 31mm with 3 leds going for SGD 16.95. Multiplying, looks like it's gonna be an expensive project...

I bought online from www.dx.com for 31mm festoon in Dec 2014 when they are on 40% offer $3.80 for 2 pcs pack. It uses one of the latest LED chips 5630 (one of the brightest). But now its only 13% offer $5.63 for the 2pcs pack.. ha ha

Need to get those with aluminum heat sink type to ensure that the LED life spanis not affected by overheating.

I am wondering, do correct me if i am wrong bros n sis (if any)...
If stopping at traffic lights w D gear... Isn't it bad that the gears or the clutch is always rubbing? For my old ex car, i immediately engage to Neutral every traffic stops so that the gears are not engaging.... So far works very well for me till scrap with no gear box or clutch slip issue.
For this M3, pretty worried... Pls advise?

At D gear it will definity have some wear when stationary due to the clutch constantly trying to "bite" to engage the gears. I also shift to neutral when at traffic light, 1) to save the clutch wear, 2) engage the hand brake at netural gear to relax my leg from the brake paddel too.

The bottom LED with gear teethsis the heat sink at the back of the LED.

For the T10 and T6 LED bulbs, I bought them from eBay. The T10 is a bit trickyas the M3 light compartment is very shallow. I got the Samsung LED with round aluminum heat sink and remove the lens cover to fit in.

Auto gear box is designed for it. Actually, if you keep switching, it will result in more wear.

Similarly, even though it has a manual mode, if we use it very often, it will also shorten the life span of the auto gear box.

Does mine Dunlop Sportmaxx RT consider protecting the rims from kerb abrasions.

Love the grip and short braking distance...:)

Test drive 3 cars yesterday and now having headache.... I noticed that Mazda 3 when I step on the accelerator to accelerate from 0-40km/h, the noise tends to be rather noisy. But when i hit the accelerator from 40+km/h to accelerate to 70km/h, the engine is surprisingly quiet.....

How much does it cost to get rim repainted/resprayed? Does the cost include paint or we need to get our own paint and pay the workshop for the labour?

Yes. Just buy the new frame, if you want frame. Then make the squarish license plate and change that's all.

I am also thinking offset looks wrong.

Very cold if fan blowing at you. Yes there is a button for the iStop but very troublesome to off every time you start the ride.

Ya but now w M3 cannot shift to neutral cos if shift to neutral, the i-stop kicks in and stop the engine. Very troublesome to get moving again... Need to release n press the brake again and release to start the engine from i-stop then shift to D...

Anybody here got the 2L version instead of the 1.5L version? What makes you wan to get the 2L version? Need some advice...

I got the 2.0 because it is more powerful than 1.5 and has full features. Price difference of 20k is quite reasonable. I also used to drive a more powerful car & was afraid that might not be used to the massive power loss if I got the 1.5 instead of 2.0. Didn't want a Mazda 6 as it is a heavier & larger car.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the difference between the 2.0 and 1.5dlx are the obvious higher power (significantly more), the factory fitted piano black mazdaspeed bodykit, paddle shifters (nice) and the larger stock wheels at 18"?
