Chronicles of a noobie cook.

I cooked some fried beehoon for the 1st time on Saturday for a New Year meetup with my friends.
Too tired to take a photo after i did it.

Put in quite a lot of effort.
Tried not to take any short cuts since my 1st time doing.

Deshelled and deveined 1 kg of prawns for prawn stock.
1st time cooking so overloaded my wok, lol had to unload it so that i can stir the beehoon properly.

I only think it's about 5.5 out of 10 stars but my wife and my friends said not bad, so well at least got some satisfaction out of it.

Too bland as I'm inexperienced so went easy on the pepper and chilli in case overload. Saltiness still ok... ...

The cooking part is short, but well the prep time in chopping up all the ingredients took really quite a while.

Nowhere close to sembawang white beehoon standard haha.

The Hokkien version with the white bee hoon will probably disappear first compared to thisbetter treasure this peasant food, maybe will be extinct 20 years down the road
Korean strawberries are generally sweeter. Gave up on this USA and australian ones.

which restaurant?

Actually for Australia strawberry, when I pluck it in the farm directly at Australia, it was very juicy and sweet.
Most likely for those import here, they are plucked before it was ripe that's why not sweet.

You need 2 people to do it right because sliced qi ku gets burned easily. One person slice, another scoop them up from oil. Also, oil temperature must not be high.

11 January 2016 - 10:37 AMEnderWhenever I'm around novena, sometimes I'll dropped by this nasi pandang kopi shop across United Square, next to Udder.. Funny thing about this Nasi Pandang, is the staff there are all chinese. I have asked the helper, and she said the owner is chinese but engage 'indians' (I think she meant malay) to cook. The food are really good, especially like the rendang chicken and the paru.

Wife wana try to do it the healthy way -> air fryer. Thatz why I am the guinea pig.

After my taste test, if not approved, then fry using wok. We dont have deep fryer as wifey deemed it as an evil equipment.

i normally like no chilli but this stall's chilli's really good, must have chilli then nice
11 January 2016 - 03:10 PMDonutI have been going to this stall at Clementi central for China Dumpling noodles

this stall is in a coffeeshop, Blk 442, just next to the famous round hawker centre at clementi central

Run totally by china ppl. 100% handmade noodle. the chef is standing there, kneading and pulling the dough. 2 other staff are always stuffing the dumplings

The dumplings are Shandong dumplings. They also have shanghai steam dumplings. and they are cheap. V value for money.

I always eat the dry dumpling noodles. only cost $3.80 and its a v big noodles with 5 HUGE dumplings with meat. The dry gravy is some kind of bean based with lots of minced meat

Normally i dont support FT food stalls. but when comes to this, i have to support them.

Coz the food is really good, authentic and value for money. It beats many other local "famous" stalls that sells you portion of food only fit enough for a bird for ridiculous pricing and fools are queuing for them

I'm a big eater and i have problem finishing this $3.80 noodles. always feel that i over-eat every time i have this bowl.

we cannot say that they have cheaper overheads and whatever. Their stall location is considered prime, rental confirmed not cheap. and there are at least 5 ppl working in this stall. So they do have the same overheads as other stalls.
