the handling is very good for stock tires and profile. why u wanna downgrade yr tires to Achilles brand is beyond my comprehension. howeverbyr money yr call. u happi can liao.

I agree that the stock toyo tyres are better than Achilles.

    this could be helpful

    http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/

    stock:205/60/r16 speedo read: 100km

    new: 225/50/r17 speedo read: 101km

    same speedo read (100km against 100km): 245/45/r17

but I not sure what is the maxwidth of the tire that can be fit on Mazda 3

    thanks. seems rather negligible.

how about aspect ratio of 45 for 205 and r16?

I agree that the stock toyo tyres are better than Achilles.

thanks. can you explain why is it better? how is it better?

Just google TOYO and Achilles lor ...

1 with 70 years history with tires making, the other .... well ... I dont want to spoli the fun for you ...

It just make a lot of sense to mount S$$90 tires on a S$100k machine.

You will know the wonders on a wet day.

just like ppl uses NEXEN says NEXEN good ... Bridgestone lovers will say Bridgestone good ...

Same argument with ppl telling me their Pirelli P-Zero is better than my botak Michilen PS3.

On a sunny and hot day, my 100% worn out tires will eat them and chew them out, without any insurance though but on a wet day, I travel < 50km/hr and cannot brake suddenly.

Most of the time, you do pay for what you get.

I am also interested in the wing mirror auto folds only when engine starts.

Bro, that is considered "rooting" or "jailbreaking" the MZD connect? Will it cause problem if there is a system firmware update or map update ah?

More interested if we can do auto lock car door when drive off. I read in the manual that it can be configured on the mazda 6. They are using the same MZD connect system anyway.

Achilles have a limited series of tyres. Their 123s have been used for racing in sentul and the results are quite good.

I haven't used Achilles before but I am open to trying out the 123s in the racetrack if I can. to me, anything that moves is track-able. Their ATR seems to be cheap but I don't know how it performs yet. So no comments on that.

I don't want to argue which tyre is better because this will never end. I am not defending Achilles or to put down toyo. But both of them have the same level quality management system. 70 years in the market does not equate to immediate superioritybecause we have to look at themcase by case.Remember the Goodyear Eagle F1 scandal? And both toyo andachilleshave their bad days before. I have heard about toyo blowing up on the NSH too. So I won't jump in to accuse Achilles of being inferior so quickly.

Bros, tires are the only contact you have the ground. Do not save money on tires! Anyway, u only need to change about 2-3 years depending on mileage.

Read reviews on road noise, grip (especially wet weather), wear rate. etc.

BTW, do also take note that some suppliers may sell the same brand/model cheaper than others. Tires have shelf life and hence it may be old stock. If possible check the manufacturing date which can be found on the tires. IMO, less than a year still ok,

well... I cannot disagree with your play-saferationale. life is too dear to lose it on lousy tyres. as long as the tyres work fine for the car.

I am more interested in this review on the mazda 3 2015 1.5 by a MCF member who said the car starts to float at 120km/h.

Tyres actually have a lot to do with this. I wonder if it was caused by the tyre size. So I am asking around first if anyone changed to aspect ratio 45 from 60 and felt difference. The Mazda 3 2014 has the chassis parts of a good road car so handling should not be too worrying.

Mazda 3 2014 1.5 is the one closest to my requirements in a car.

independent rear axle ( a lot of cars come with reartorsion beam)

minimum 6 speed semi auto or manual

anti roll bar on both axles (very critical for understeering and oversteering correction. We can change the targetedbar to the right one if we need to induce more of either. With the ARB, it makes the car threshold to resist roll higher making the car able to go faster in the turn.)

natural aspirated engine (because I want easy maintenance)

with the currentCOE in place, I can't demand too much on the power and torque. Getting old too. powerful cars no longer appeal as much to me like in the past. But if the price is OK, I might consider the 2.0

I was also surprised a MCF review says M3 feels floating when at 120km/h!

Other than tires, kerb weight also play a part. Considering M3 is one the heavier Jap made car, other makes will be blown away!... haha

Anyway, i can only think probably its due to the higher tire pressure? Or maybe got crosswind? Only the reviewer knows.

No it won't cause problems. The mzdconnect runs on UNIX and there are some lines that are binary. It's just toggling true/false. Map update is independent. So is Firmware updates. I am a programmer by training so i can assure you 100% no worries. If Mz 6 has that feature, my guess is the auto car door drive off can be configured too, I need time to play around. If anyone wants pm me.

cannot be floaty feeling at that speed..

i have done 160 in the mz2 on sport mode and i dont dare to push further..

the 2 is almost 300kg lighter than the 3.

Based on specs is pump 250.

Anyway, going at 120km/h shouldn't float especially for M3 (heavier). Last time my Altis also didn't float unless going above 150.

it takes more than vehicle weight to float.

The chassis flex, The tyres, the steering all play a part.

    Go Malaysia and try?

Curious. How does changing fr 60 to 45 without changing rim size help prevent floating?

Maybe wider tyres help or if hardcore, change the suspension and camber angle.

It is not with the rim size. 16 and 17 inch is pretty close. It is the aspect ratio that makes the difference. The lower the profile the better it is for performance. at 60%, you are more susceptible to roll andtyreshape volatility. That's why the floaty feeling is also partly attributedto this. But you have to compromise your wet traction and cushioning effect. Good if you are driving on a normally flat terrain. 45 is the lowest I am prepared to go if I were to get a mazda 3

I'm in KL now. Drove up with the boot full of stuff and 3 pax. Easily did 140 km/h. Road sound was OK also. On 215/50R17. Yokohama Advan dB. Gonna go back to Singapore next week with less stuff in the boot and only 2 pax. Will see how much I can whack haha!

Comparing the Mazda3 to my old Honda Jazz, this car is shiok to drive! 110 with no effort. Engine also hardly being pushed. I guess 120 bhp vs 80 bhp not a fair fight.

Only thing I am not happy about the Mazda3 is the lack of storage space. I miss the shelf space under the steering wheel in my Jazz...

Lol!! That's a good one!! Hahaha. Empty wallet floats...

Btw the steering wheel will auto adjust when speed increases?
Meaning no power steering when high speed?

Nowadays, power steering are electrical speed-sensitive, meaning that it reduces the amount of assistance the faster you are going... Or maybe some have counter assistance, to make the wheel feel super heavy! lol!

Hahahaa...like that, can i say that a poorly made car and also make the driver thinks the car is weighted by having a good steering system? Somewhat misleading the driver?

I was also surprised a MCF review says M3 feels floating when at 120km/h!

Other than tires, kerb weight also play a part. Considering M3 is one the heavier Jap made car, other makes will be blown away!... haha

Anyway, i can only think probably its due to the higher tire pressure? Or maybe got crosswind? Only the reviewer knows.

is it me who wrote that?haha .. anyway, yes i felt that too. i wouldnt go 130 on this car stock. mine is all stock. i think the issue is the damping of the rear dampers, too hard. not complaint enough if 1 up.

my ex car was a fiat grande punto, stock car was very good at 180. after i change to koni fsd and upsize the tires the ride was perfect but top speed down to 170, but was all in a good way.
    it was very planted.

on the m3 stock, the rear seems to disagree with the front at high speed corners i felt. i have a feeling that if someone were to make minor adjustment at high speed at the steering the rear dampers might throw the car off. there is an early video comparison between m3 and new civic ... the m3 failed the shalom test. go look in youtube, its in russian i think.

also, the 1.5l is underpowered. it feels powerful until u go upslope ... hahaha ...

    Thanks for reply!

However, servicing was done in Sept, 3 months ago only, though they didn't change engine oil, because mileage is only 5000 km (light driver). So, is it still servicing or rotation of tyres?

Go to Application, Maintenance menu to check if you have turn on the servicing reminder for your servicing... that could be the reason why you are seeing this.
