After one week driving,my new ride.still can't accept road noise, when traveling on the harsh roads on the BKE,PIE,SLE. When raining the noise is very loud inside the cabin . Anyone has the same feeling as me? My ex Toyota altis better than this sound insulation . Change what tyre can solve the road noise , anyone can share ?

Toyo or Michelin....just on hi fi louder abit to cover the noise..... [laugh]

    hmm, ligther rims better FC...:)

if by changing the rims to 17" with tire of 205/50/R17, does it still cause inaccuracy in speedometer? will it improve the FC?

215 mm the tire and rim will be nice....205 mm tire looks bulge out....yucks! No inaccuracy dun worry....60 to 50 series its ok.

shall we use back the same reading on our stock tire of 205/60 for Enkei 17" rims?

To avoid an inaccuracy to our speedometer

    Cannot....17" step up, so 50 series compensate....just nice...avoid 45 series.....

Looking at Toyo Proxes T1R 215/50 R17 91Y; any review

The Toyo PROXES T1-R is a new generation V-shape UHP tyre designed exclusively for sport sedans and coupes and that meets the demand for high-speed stablilty and excellent handling under dry and wet conditions, while retaining low noise and optimum driving comfort. This new tyre takes advantage of modern design technology and provides stable steering response and traction thanks to the improved tread pattern design, resulting in superb braking performance as well as improved wear resistance.

Hi, Please recommend which place to do insulation. Thanks.

I don't own a Mazda3 nor have i done insulation, but I think some did it at Autobacs, not sure where else to do. Hopefully someone here who done it can recommend one for you.

Just drove pie, bke, sle yesterday and its raining hard... overall quieter and stable than my previous ride...maybe you need to let the tyres run in to 600KM+...
Best part is the FC record just 5.2L/100KM for the journey...

The SkyActiv chassis is lightened & stiffened. Mazda stripped it down to help come up w/ an amazingly fun & efficient car. Some have tried adding sound deadening....bad idea....adds a lot of weight. A fellow Mown3r who conservatively dropped his 3 on springs never worried about rubbing prior to Dynamat installation...not the case after.:( Tyre swap still better. Check tyre reviews prior to purchase.
Added sprung weight may not have as much effect as unsprung rotational weight like on wheels & crank pulleys, but it definitely will affect FC.
I've grown accustomed to the noises & to me, they actually add to the feel & sensory connectedness of the drive.....just me.:)

I've seen the video before you posted it. It seems to have 2 bags poping from the side. Typically 6 bags would mean front and back but brochure states 4. Hence my question.

Besides, the video is for the euro spec. Trims are known to differ region to region.

Any kind bros/sis is pretty sure that the local deluxe trim side airbags covers both front and back rows?

    Thanks!

You can download the specs from mazda 3 singapore website...

Not sure whether the stock tire are Toyo NanoEnergy 3 with spec as below.

    http://paultan.org/2...o-nanoenergy-3/

    Thanks AhKn, will check

agreed with you!!! push SE to work for us and hearsay, they will only collect their comm aft handing over the car to us.

Will do that tomorrow, hope I'll have good news on car collection!

Change no regret....its like wearing light track shoe to run than the army boots! [:p]

What you say make sense, but very poisonous! HahHa

Yes, still to the nearest profile as much as possible. Else your actual speed will be different from your speedo. Use this calculator to check

BTW, I'm on stock toyo. Still need (almost 800km) and its not slippery.

Thanks EddHooi, noted. Will remember to stick to the tyre profile

Yes, since you paid money, he has received his commission you should not wait 3 weeks. Did he say when will he register your car? If it's registered already it's unreasonable to let you wait 3 weeks to collection.

For my SE he asked me to drop cheque on 11th Nov and it will be registered on 11th. But he cannot promise the collection date. I am not so fussy to insist that there must be minimum gap between registration and collection but cannot be 1 week.

Never said when he'll register for me. All I got when I asked on Friday when can I collect my car is "will let you know on Monday". I tried asking again today and no reply from him, sigh. Exactly, the gap between down payment and collection shouldn't be more than 1 week, that's why I'm upset.

So when changing tyre, should stick to the same profile as stock toyo tyres? Did you change yours? If you didn't, how are the stock toyo tyres? Slippery on wet road?

I didn't change my tyres. All along, I have been planning to upsize my rims to 18". The wheels are here. I am waiting for the tyres (225/45/18) to arrive. It's a bit rare. Most shops have 225/40/18. So stay tuned hehe.

Bro Fantastic_Duck, I also gave him benefit of the doubt because of the big Car show but then, he replied my messages yesterday morning about retention of license plate, and conveniently left out answering me on delivery date. Must be swamped by customers at the expo I guess. I'll just hound him today. Being optimistic about collection for this week although it's a short week with tomorrow being Deepavali and Trans Eurokars having D&D for their staff this Friday so they're closed from the afternoon or something.......

Regarding in-car vacuum, ours is from Rowenta. It's FOC when we bought the cordless vacuum cleaner. I guess it works fine for its purpose, don't expect fantastic suction for such small gadgets but they do help with some maintenance when you need to clean the interior of your car [thumbsup]

Your speedo reading will be damn off if you just change the aspect ratio of the tire without any change in tire size or width.

Uh? Dont change the aspect ratio. Keep to stock

Yes, bro AhKn. Don't change the aspect ratio. The 60 profile tyre means that your tyre side wall thickness is 60 mm. If you switch to 45 mm, your tyre side wall will be 15 mm smaller. This is way off the stock.

You can reduce the profile when you upsize your rims. A good tyre shop can advise you on which wheel and tyre size to use usually. Consult with them before changing your wheels or tyres.
  • 10 November 2015 - 12:15 AM
    Huge

I was thinking to keep stock rims but change the stock tyre (toyo 205/60/r16) to a better grip for wet/dry and quiet.

Will the above help to have better FC?

Just to share a little bit of engineering logic.... as well as input from Tyre company.

with better grip, it will result in the car to use more energy to move the tires...hence more energy = uses more fuel hence not so good FC.

Better grip also result in more rubber contact to the road = more noise generated.

Yes that's right. I'm rather surprised cos my old car has that so I thought it should be a standard feature... but youshould still be able tolock/unlock all door by using the lock level at the door handle. I will try it later and revert.

Mazda cars do not have the feature of auto lock when moving off. Child safety locks on rear door are mandatory. All cars will need to be fitted with one before they can be sold.

Although the Mazda3 already suffers from relatively high interior noise levels, I would say most would recommend performance tyres for it... such a nimble chassis deserves such.

Agree with you colour of choice is very important.
Mine waited for 3 mths because no stock and the shipment will only come abt 2-3 mths after downpayment.

Anyway got my car now, after a long 3 mths wait.

    Yes, of course!

Better grip means wider tires and will increase rolling resistance.

With a lower profile, will equate to more noise and also a more bumpy ride.

If from 60 u change to 45 without compensating with a bigger rim,

1, u will have a big gap between wheel arch and the tires.
2, when your speedo show 100km/h, your actual speed will only be 90 or less.

Use the tire calculator to check... I posted the link many time already.

Btw, tire shops will only recommend what stock they have. Do your homework before going to them.

Anyway just to assist you in your decision. When you change from stock to 45, you will get a 10% diff in speedo reading approximately. See pic.

It's true that upon upsizing or downsizing, 1 should compute to retain as close to stock outer tire diameter.

Pardon my respectful correction, but tire profile 60,55,50,45,etc aren't direct mm sidewall heights. They are percentages of tire width.
    Ex. 205/50
    sidewall ht= 205x50%=102.5mm

Any of you guys changed the interior map reading and dome light? I took out and measured the light bulb to be 29mm fastoon, but all the taobao stores are selling 31mm fastoon for mazda 3. Anyone bought b4 and successfully installed in your car? I think 2mm longershould be still be able to fit in buthoping to have some confirmation. :) BTW you guys don't feel the interior light is way too hot for comfort?

If from 60 u change to 45 without compensating with a bigger rim,

1, u will have a big gap between wheel arch and the tires.
2, when your speedo show 100km/h, your actual speed will only be 90 or less.

Use the tire calculator to check... I posted the link many time already.

Btw, tire shops will only recommend what stock they have. Do your homework before going to them.

It's not that critical if the aspect ratio is different from original. Speedos themselves are not accurate and usually show approx 5-10% error, usually reading higher than actual.

Also not all tires widths are the same. A 225 vs a 225 from another brand is NOT the same. Even if the same brand it can also differ. I have never measured the aspect ratio, but I assume as with the widths it can also differ from brand to brand and model to model. So bottomline is don't get too caught up with all this. Just make sure that the front pair or rear pairs are identical.

I saw a SKW 8000 plus on the road. I think now is 9000 plus

yeah very poor suction.. you can hear that the power drops after like 20 min use

I have swapped my interior light bulbs with Philips LED 6000K color. The Philips festoon bulb is 31 mm in length. It fits in quite nicely. You need to use a little bit of force to fit the bulb into the groove of the fitting. The copper fitting is flexible. It took me 30 min to change the dome lights, license plate lights and reverse lights to LED. I will post some pics of my car tomorrow :)

    hahaa.... you are not wrong.

Else i can't see why a smaller diameter covering lesser distance can save fuel! Anyway mileage on the meter vs actual distance traveled will be different.

True...also, logically, once its wider, more contact, better grip, more friction, how to consume less. :a-confused:

Lol... I guess the point is to not worry too much about FC if you want to zheng your car with new shoes. Yes, you may save a bit of fuel in long run with stock rims and such. You have spent so much money upsizing the rims, you should feel good about it and enjoy driving it.

I will go for 215/55/R17 if possible.

Bigger diameter means cover more distance for the same rotation. Indirectly saves fuel... Haha

but it might be heavier than the 215/50 becos more rubber ... just 2 cents worth

I bought from Euro-Asia Ventures in Toh Guan. After trade in, I topped up another $780.

Bro Fantastic_Duck, I have a feeling you'll be collecting your ride earlier than me even though I dropped in my cheque earlier. SE called meon Monday afternoonand told me he had sent in my ride for collection on 18 Nov about 2 weeks ago *faint*! if that's the case then I shouldn't have banked in the cheque so early! I wouldn't have mind submitting the cheque this week and it'll only bea 1 week difference between submitting the cheque and collecting the car.The issue isn't collecting next week but the waiting time from money paid and collecting the car, sigh. I guess he's a conservative guy who wants to make sure he over delivers rather than under delivering, so no choice, I've to wait till next week. Anyway, we should be getting our cars next week so all the best to us!
