if really less than 1 sec than not so bad... please update when u tested laugh.gif

am not trying to brag just offering feedback.

for drs1100pro, it got a g sensor. so if dictate impact, u can set the parameters, it will merge with the previous file to have a longer play.

eg. normal recording per file is 15 secs, if got impact, it will merge file 1 and file 2 into one file, making it into a 30 sec file, good for claims.

for all to consider, not selling it btw, don misunderstand tongue.gif

so where can i get the DRS1100PRO?? any contact number and address?? how much is it now?

In your last 3 post you mention that you have got a good camrea with motion sensor why would you want to change to one without a motion sensor aznd spend more mone, just curious to know.

I got mine from a local seller at ebay Singapore more than a year ago at US$239.

Currently, other ebay sellers (US) are selling it at around $388.

There is a local dealer of the product at www.driversurveillance.com

Please take note that some DVR needs to press some button before it can start recording. Bump into this mini camera from Korea called safeEYE, hassle free/ always recording upon start the car, looks sleek compare with bigger one especially when mount on the wind screen. Their website Wow! Gadgets, i bought other product from them. so far so good.

well, i am into gadgets, the one i had is good because is intelligence enough to be motion sensor, wat i am looking for is to capture any movement because that means danger, i dont want a camera to capture everything, wasting SD card space and also the time when reviewing also need extra batt to work..gadget got to be smart!! isnt it? tongue.gif

Full refund can be requested from products from dhgate and dealextreme. Well, in my case that's been honoured so far. Postage back is about $10, but they reimbursed me on that too.

Well if your product is good, you can tell us more about it. 1st, can take a clip and post it here. You can post a clip of motion detector in action. For e.g, post a clip of someone walking past your car after midnite. Posting a pic of how it is mounted on your car also helps. If there are buyers who have positive comments, can also post their reviews.

As mentioned, I did wanted to buy the product that you're selling before. But the supplier said the motion detection not that effective. Best is to press record when needed. That's why I didn't buy.

Do you guys put the recorder on the driver side of the front windscreen or the front passenger side? Coz currently i put it on the driver side just beside the rear view mirror but if it is on the passenger side then my cable is not long enough as i run it through the front side pillar.

You can actually get a an audio shop installer to help you extend the length by means of normal electrical cable. Also, you can ask them to conceal the car charger, and it'll look neater.

tell them to connect directly to yr fuse not battery. So it will on and off auto.

so yr ciggy charge is still free for other things

Just received my HD720P yesterday. Am really surprised by the small size. :)

I got mine few days back. Went to the audio car shop and asked them to install the car charger cable for me. Originally wanted them to cut off the car charger part and connect it directly to the car battery. The shop boss said no they will solder wires off the pins of the car charger in case next time I want to use it on another car. It was a good call cos later I went home and read from the menu that the car charger actually stepped the input voltage down from the car 12V to the common USB 5V. Would have fried my unit if the car audio shop had done what I asked! Those of you getting this unit do remember this!

Ok.. have received all the cameras and emailed all those in the MO about collection details. Several bros have already collected - I hope you guys are having fun with the new toys. I am myself now figuring out how to operate the thing.

I realise I do not have a large capacity SD card for it.
One of the bro suggested I do another MO for it - well, it's an idea... if anymore keen - just shout out. We'll get an MO going for that - I think a 16GB SD card is about $40-$50?? 32GB is >$100, a bit too expensive at the moment. Anyone got lobang?

Also - there were several other bros who wanted to get the Camera but were dissapointed as the MO had closed.

Now that I have experience doing one MO successfully, I think I can help out with a new MO, if the interest is still there. I'll send out an email to all those who indicated interest for a 2nd MO by tonite. I believe the 2nd MO can be completed and items received much faster, as I have learned from the errors of the 1st MO. Prices, of course, still depend on the quantity ordered from supplier, but I think the supplier will now give good prices since we are a regular customer.

played with it for a while and found that the
    recycle/loop function is in intervals of 1, 5, 10, 15 mins.

at the end of each interval, a file will be saved,
and recording of the next interval starts after
slightly less than 2 secs using an 8GB Class 4 SDHC.

question is should we set it at 15 mins or
disable it so that it will record till the card is full?

if set at 15 mins interval, we will lose ~2 secs of recording
every 15 mins, but file size will be more manageable
    (for 1920x1080 is ~1MB/s == ~900MB).

if loop disabled, the recording stops when the card is full,
it doesn't seem able to overwrite on a FIFO-basis.

im losing 5 seconds at intervals (old school 512mb card) maybe someone with class 6 can come in to comment?

bro, i was looking for the auto overwrite old file function. so u mean it's on automatically the moment you set a interval time? can only try if i manage to fill up the card when i go drive around.
actually it's better to have the files split, in case the vid file got corrupted u can't play anything. also easier to manage with the smaller file sizes, you can extract the part that u need to watch.

i tried it w/o any SDHC card inserted,
and it doesn't overwrite oldest file,
it simply refuses to record any more.

if u set to 1920x1080, your 512MB should fill up in ~8.5 mins.

    a pathetic ~17MB,
can't even record 1 min at lowest resolution,
only good for taking pics i guess.

when enable loop w/o any SDHC,
    recording stops after mem full,
    BUT no file is saved.

I was trying with an old school 128MB SD card last night - can record total 3:55 min at the lowest res (848x). I did interval of 1 min. And looped. So it was ok. The lowest res is a bit grainy, but otherwise quite clear recording. Have not tried extracting to PC yet to see the video on bigger screen. Now to get a bigger SD card!

I think the built in LCD on the camera is good - as it allows the camera to be mounted precisely, whilst you know where it is pointing.
I tried both the mounts - could not quite figure out the standard mount. But I shall be using the upside down mount, and place it behind the rearview... i think this is the most inconspicuous area, but it is still a bulky thing, and easily see from outside. Does not seem to be an easy way to hide it. I am wondering about vibration when driving - got to try out today.

The wide angle lens is quite cute... just stick one ring on the camera lens, and then magnetically mount the wide angle on top. But it is easy to slide off.

There is a setting called "video flip" on the video settings menu. Switch it to "on" and the camera will record upside down. Then when you d/l to PC, the video will be right side up already. No need for additional software to flip!

If want to add additional comments - I guess can use Microsoft Movie Make to do. Microsoft Movie Maker is a standard install in Windows PC

The wide angle lens is quite cute... just stick one ring on the camera lens, and then magnetically mount the wide angle on top. But it is easy to slide off.

Thks, I was trying the whole night how to fix the wide angle len. Didn't notice there is a sticker on the ring. I should change my nickname to "TechnoIdiot" (working as IT somemore). Oops, no offence biggrin.gif

Thanks. trying to google but can't find a freeware software or mov file converter.
I have tried to use Movie Maker but can't open Mov file. sigh...
What I mean was to add the notes/comments directly into the film such as I can pin point the car plate or a person with some words. impress with some youtube video.

don't say I say... but if can get some erhm.. "shareware" version of say Ulead or Pinnacle s/w, can do the job very nicely. Not sure of other freeware .mov editors.. The other solution maybe to convert .mov to .avi or .wmv and then use MS Movie Maker.

icic! i am having a time figuring out what each is for too!

Anyone able to 'auto-start" it? ie. Connect everything to the power supply in the car and once the engine is turn on, it will boot up and automatically start recording???

The best that i can do for the moment is connect everything, and it goes into the blue screen mode- to choose msc(whats that for), charge or power on.

And does it charge and record at the same time?

yeah.. so far I get it to auto start and go to blue screen - need to press recording to start record. Also dunno what is MSC.

I am going to collate all the questions we can't answer - and send to supplier to get some answers.

So far "msc" and "duration' and auto start recording are the unknowns... any more?

msc is for your computer to detect the camera/memory card as removable drives, so you can browse the files

i read duration is something like - if you set it it will only record for that length. it's not meant to go along with the recycle settings.

my auto record can work. set USB IN to on .. once the power is up, blue screen comes on, few sec later it will start recording.
if you wait awhile to crank the engine (like me), the power will get cut off when you crank late.. then if it doesnt come on after engine start, just press power button once. it will start and auto record.

i was also experimenting with different ways of mounting. try to hide it as 'not obvious' as possible.

i took the normal bracket (with the standard package) and mount it upside down. so the camera clicks in the holder from bottom up

as this position the camera is not so 'front', it's able to cover wider area, and also less obvious from the front
memory card also easier to take out. down side is because the holder clicks in from bottom, although it feels sturdy, afraid it will drop off when there's too many shakings. tried ways to mod the holder but cant think of any

in the end, settle with the upside down mount.

down side is you cant take the memory card out when it's screwed in. and it's very obvious from the front.
for now, i just unscrew the camera and bring it home to test out the videos recorded. maybe when i get lazier i just leave the camera like it is (or when i don't need extract any vids)

spent an hour + doing up my cable into the a-pillar and the legroom area. satisfied with the setup now

oh..great.. nice photos and explanation... I'm going to try your top photo where the cam not so obvious. I think can mod the holder with some blue tack or 3m double-sided to hold in place. Thanks for the efforts! thumbsup.gif

I've managed to hide the USB cable in the roof lining and the A-pillar. Now to tidy up under the dashboard and the cigarette lighter. I've got a few gadgets there in a multi-scoket, so quite unsightly.

I managed to find a 2GB m2 card and used a adaptor to convert it into an SD card. Seems to be able to record.

I did a dashboard mount for my recorder. I used the flat surface on my dashboard to place the holder. And a flat round piece that was from my GPS holder to hold the suction cup of the holder.

Anyway, tried recording just now while driving. After that, I tried to review the video, but it showed me file error! 30 mins of video wasted. But when I tested with short recordings earlier, it was fine. WTH!!??

I managed to finally mount it using the standard mount on the drivers side of the windscreen.
    1. Does not interfere with the rearview mirror,
    2. best angle of view properly adjusted and fixed,
    3. can easily detach and reattach camera from the mount without needing readjust the angle of view
    4. cable nicely hidden under roof lining, and A pillar.
    5. the SD card can be easily removed and reinserted without removing the camera from mount
    6. camera not so obvious from outside
    7. the LCD is easily viewed by driver, just glance upwards

I'll take a photo and post up later.

    The cons of this camera:
    1. the field of view does not cover whole windshield as I was hoping, even with the wideangled lens. But it is better than my previous cam, I think about 70% of the front view is captured.
    2. Night recording is petty hopeless without a lot of ambient external light.
    3. No motion detection features
    4. there is a gap in recording between clips about 2 secs... but I think that is livable with... esp if each clip is set to say 15mins.

    The pros of this camera:
    1. automatically start recording with ignition on, and stop when off ignition. No worries about missing a recording.
    2. The recording loops about the available media space... so no worries about running out of media to record.
    3. can set length of recording to suit needs, recording media.
    4. The recording is pretty clear, esp at the higher resolutions.
    5. Can detach and use as a handheld cam/recording device
    6. Has internal battery which can allow the cam to be used even after car engine is off, for a short duration - not sure how long though, need to test

    Unknown variables:
    1. how long will it last before video quality degrades or camera fails altogether?
    2. can it tahan singapore sun without getting damaged?

Yes.. I am bit unsure about this.

I did a bit of Internet research this morning and came up with a spreadsheet comparison of all the SDHC cards of various brands sold at SLS in 8BG/16GB/32Gb capacity of all the available classes. See the attachment for details (MS Excel 2007 format). The 2nd worksheet has some explanations of SD "class" speeds comparisons.

I think I am going to try out the Sandisk Ultra 16GB - seems the most bang per buck - according to my comaprison, ithe cheapest is at Cybermind for $59.
I'll ask if there are discounts for bulk purchase... those interested may want to organise an MO, if so.

My source for the comparison is from the latest pricelists at Hardwarezone.

The yellow highlight is on MSC, but if you do not press the OK key, after 5 sec it will auto record. You can try on your laptop, it is the same behaviour.

I just tried to view the video in my PC, and I realised ALL the videos are not sharp! The resolution is good, but the images are blurry! It's like an off-focus camera image!

Anyone has this problem? Could there be a problem with the lens?

Did u switch to macro mode? The black switch behind the camera lens

I went to Sim Lim this morning to buy the SDHC card... went to the cheapest place for the Sandisk Ultra 16GB (15MB/s) at Cybermind ($59) but they say no stock. So went to the next cheapest place at Best Bargain ($62.50) - got 1 piece there. I asked them but they don't want to commit to any discounts without an immediate purchase. Wierd.

Plugged the SDHC into my camera - set the recycle to 15mins, and resolution to 1720x and started driving. It seemed to record ok. Each 15min clip about 500+ MB Anyway, managed to record about 2 hours of driving. I think can record total about 7+ hours of video at this resolution, before recycling.

On the camera LCD review - the video seems quite clear.
Removed the SD card from the camera and plugged into my card reader. Used Apple quicktime to view. The video seemed quite clear - but not HD quality, of course. Colors a bit washed out - I think also partly due to the afternoon glare on the windscreen causing some flaring on the lens. I think must mod a hood for the lens - or place some darker material on the windscreen to cut the glare.

Also I think my card reader or PC something wrong - when trying to copy the video over it hang with a read error after a few minutes without anything copied. The same happened when I plugged the camera directly to the PC as Mass Storage Device and tried copying. However, when viewing on PC with the media in the card reader or camera, can view ok.

    That's my review so far.

    Bro, do u mean 720?

Mine 1920x1080, 15 min about slightly less than 1GB. Recycling working perfectly. so 8GB can last about 2 hrs.

No problem for me. Not jerky at all.

But I find that the wide angle lens is not that wide. Its abt 100-110 degrees only. My DRS1100PRO is 152 degrees wide angle and it covers the entire bonnet.

I am into my first day of using it only, so far so good. Using Sandisk 16Gb Class 2 SD card. Have not checked the time lapse yet but I am not too bothered abt it.
