KIA K3 Owners check-in! part 10

Huh? How come is same as my Sunny so jialat?

I suppose 12.5km/l is as good as it goes for the K3. Korean engine technology has some way to go, it seems.

8L / 100km = approx 12.5km per litre. Sounds in line with the 10-12 km / Litre depending on CIty or Highway driving.

PS : ur on 16 or 17 inch tyres?

The consensus on K5 2.0 is largely 8-10km / Litre by the same criterias?

    i am on stock 17".

I decided not to get the K5 2.0/2.4 because of the fuel consumption, and most importantly, of wanting to blend in with the rest of my colleagues who drive modest cars.

On stock 17, able to get 12.5km / Litre is darn good by K 1.6 standards.

ask him to send it for a check and if everything is ok, service it once. If still like that, guess he has to live with it.

    Hi All,

I'm considering a point to point car which is less then 10k depreciation a year.

Still waiting and hoping that Cat A COE will be closer or below 50k mark.

Noted that fuel consumption is probably not the best in class.

Is K3 an economical car in terms of servicing and maintenance?

Probably will not be going back to the agent for servicing after warranty period.

BTW is the agent servicing good?

Any long term Kia owner can verify from previous Kia experience?

Any bad experience in terms of rattling noises long term?

I read some good testimonies, probably there are less satisfied owner can also share for balance view.

Personally, the tiger nose and ripple dashboard do not appeal to me.

But I'm a pragmatic guy and can live with them since got rear air-con vent and driver memory seat which is ventilated.

I've not test driven as I think COE is still quite high and I dun want to waste sale executive time.

But if COE is inching toward 50k will probably go showroom.

I really see more older Cerato on the road then K3.

Hi. My views inside your post:

    Hi All,

I'm considering a point to point car which is less then 10k depreciation a year.

Still waiting and hoping that Cat A COE will be closer or below 50k mark.so it did not happen. Will you be waiting till then?

Noted that fuel consumption is probably not the best in class. Yup. 11-12km/l is achievable.

Is K3 an economical car in terms of servicing and maintenance? i drove a Kia Forte Koup for 4+ years. serviced at C&C. Prices are transparent. Seems reasonable to me.

Probably will not be going back to the agent for servicing after warranty period.

BTW is the agent servicing good? Good to me. I even signed up their package.

Any long term Kia owner can verify from previous Kia experience?

Any bad experience in terms of rattling noises long term? 4+ years. no rattle except for the squeak at the front right fascia (heat) which i solved by using lubricant.

I read some good testimonies, probably there are less satisfied owner can also share for balance view.

Personally, the tiger nose and ripple dashboard do not appeal to me. I have no problems with the looks except the light cluster. But i am not too bothered by it.

But I'm a pragmatic guy and can live with them since got rear air-con vent and driver memory seat which is ventilated. Price is only one factor in deciding a car - consider the features as well.

I've not test driven as I think COE is still quite high and I dun want to waste sale executive time.

But if COE is inching toward 50k will probably go showroom. Looks like you will have to wait for a little while longer.

I really see more older Cerato on the road then K3. K3 has competitors - they are mucking around with their pricing which i hate.

    2. Auto the fan speed become so low.

Hi. My views inside your post:

Thanks Simplecar, it's encouraging as I'm K3 to be soon. Just got COE secured and hopefully getting the car in some time.

BTW, may I ask if I still can ask for some freebie like car mats, etc. upon car delivery? Didn't mention such things in the sales contract though as SE told me such "small" things are kind of standard. Is it true?

And since this is also my first car, may I ask where can I go to shop for a reasonable price baby car seat / booster? Look around some at Mothercare, Kiddy Palace and average prices are around $500 - $750. Will it be cheaper for the same brand if I go to Baby Hyperstore (?) at Kaki Bukit?

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

congrats! do you have solar film free? ask that first. I nearly forgot.

car mats should come standard. Please ask for it, just in case.

I did not ask for anything else. Whatever it is, this car is quiet. I like it.

For baby seats, i have no experience. As car seats can be expensive, i suggest you check online for prices first, then call for stock and prices before going down, just in case.

careful of kerbs - my rims got gashed quite badly. But i am not too bothered - its just a car to me.

There are obvious and subtle differences.

Why don't go to the showroom to see and feel?

Some stuff can't be decided just by ticks and cross.

E.g. you may not like the after market feel, compared with the factory fitted leather seats; even though both models get a tick.

Btw, sgcarmart comparison is not 100% accurate.

Ya, fuel consumption isnt k3's strength, omly getting about 10km/l.
It's a hassle having to bring car to replace the headlights, but since LTA got inspection, then no choice..zzz

10km/L is damm high,i am getting average 12km/L,maybe higher tyres pressure of 40psi & thinner engine oil helps.[using Motul 300v,0w-20 oil.]

During deceleration, it looks like FC is higher when the speed slow down to less than 40kph.

Any bro that uses roll to stop method, you may want to shorten the time to come to a stop from 40kph. Idling uses less fuel then roll to stop.

I will start that test and monitor.

Btw, I read the instant FC (l/100km) off the OBD readings.

The instant FC from the instrument panel cannot be totally relied on because it would still show as 'zero' to mislead us.

I am shortlisting the K3 for my replacement ride since my ride ending this year. But I see that a lot of comments stating the mileage to be quite bad at 10km/l.. is it true? That's very bad for a FWD. Worse than a 4WD.

Depends on driving style and condition.

I get consistently 14.5-15 km/l based on distance covered and refill quantity.

About 80% of the time spent on smooth highway traffic, with an average speed of 44km/h (factored stationary + moving time).

You are right that K3 FC is not fantastic like Honda Vezel, Mazda 3.. etc..

    Mine around 11km/l...

Some getting better reading but definitely not 17km/l like Honda Vezel, I'm sure you have read about it at Vezel thread..

Like what mention previously, the price difference (at least during my purchase) between K3 and other model making FC difference negligible... unless petrol price shot up drastically in future (no one wants that happen anyway [cool])

My advice is, if FC is your concern, then probably K3 does not suit your needs well..

Most important is for your to enjoy your ride without worry... like I am now with my K3 [drivingcar]

About 80% of the time spent on smooth highway traffic, with an average speed of 44km/h (factored stationary + moving time).

Yup, depends on driving style as well.. you are having a very good FC there [thumbsup]

for the bro who was looking to buy a k3:

the listed price of the SX variant has been raised to 112,999. however, they have advertised a promotion of $14k off (not sure what terms and conditions).

that means an effective price of $99k. if so, then despite coe up, they are selling at a lower price than in the past few months. at current coe, their cost iss $101,301. they are selling at a loss?!?!?!

This being a common topic, you will get better response in the main board (this is a sub-board) like "Cars - General Car Discussion" or "Aftermarket - Detailing"

Anyway, i did not do the protection/coating as i dont take care of my car except to wipe off the rain after a shower. I also seldom wash my car (my car is still quite new)

There are many good brand available for infant/baby/child seat, I used Peg Perego Primo Viagio for my baby boy before, and recently upgrade to Britax Boulevard. I bought the Britax Boulevard G4 at firstfewyear $499 with promotion, if budget allow, can get the Britax Boulevard click tight. Most of the Britax come with ISOFIX as well. Hope this help.

I got this as freebies and since this has gps integrated there together with reverse cam, I took it. In Singapore the original one doesn't have such feature (mine is SX)

the original console is normal with no touchscreen or dvd.

The 2k one is a very weird looking big screen dvd player with touchscreen.

    Depends on ur personal preference.

same, dun like coating or protection as some requires u to wash with their specific shampoo and return for touchup. End up after a while still become rough.

I prefer my paintwork smooth so I wash n wax myself every week.

Hi Guys; I got damn bad radio reception..any ideas how to improve it? Thanks

Hi ElvisTkh, is your radio reception issue resolved?

Is it stock or after market?

Any bro here drive on ECP (between MCE and Changi)?

My radio reception is bad at this stretch.

It should not be the radio station issue because the bad reception happens with all channels and I do not recall it happening with my previous car's HU.

My HU is the aftermarket "Eurostyle Multimedia System" installed by C&C.

I told the service advisor and he had noted it.

But he have not heard from other owners.

If any bros here have the same problem, do highlight during servicing.

If this is indeed a common problem, then they could investigate.

Otherwise, mine could just be an isolated case.

There is a blue Koup Turbo around Toa Payoh area.

Yes I do agree despite the big power from just a 1.6L and great performance, sales has been poor.

The oddball Veloster Turbo on the other hand, despite using a detuned version of Gamma II GDI Turbo, have more sales in SG than the Koup

Its a real pity actually, I can confirm that the Koup offers identical interior space as the Forte sedan. Kia designers didn't shrink down the dimensions and one certainly wont feel claustrophobicsittingat the rear of the Koup.In fact, the Koup offers slightly bigger boot spacethan the sedan due to its extended butt.. LOL

I think the $$ is all wrong la, and C&C, of all things went to dekit the Koup in SG. You loose side and curtain airbags, no power seat despite paying an extra 8-9k more.

Looks is abit subjective though. I thought the Koup looks quite ok. But the rear end looks stubby and it will need a spoiler to bal up the slight sagging butt look.

You may wish to check the antenna cable running into the HU. The cable is shielded and the installer may have spliced the cable too much during installation and without shielding, there will bound to have tons of RF interference.

i was tempted to swop to the new Koup from my old Koup which was much better looking. The price ($130k) and two doors killed my interest as i decided to go back to a 4-door car.

I was told the electric seat was removed to facilitate ease of exit in the event of power failure. Haha. 2 air bags and not so attractive styling killed my interest.

The K3 is not that nice to me but i was sold on K3 for the other features and the price.

    Hi Bros

Got my car about week ago and was then on trip so don't have much time to check it out in detail. Have a few questions to ask (this is my first car then some may sound stupid :-)

    1. For passenger seatbelt (the rear - middle one): how to find the belt? I don't seem to see it
    2. For your car, is the lamp at the door automatically on when you open the door? Mine doesn't (mine is SX btw)
    3. How to activate the sound when you remotely open/close the door?

    Thanks

Local Altis specs, once again is miserable. A lot of equipment were del so that BM can have max profits for the car.Dual airbags only, traction control, VSC, hill start hold, factory HU, power seats, cruise control, etc were all deleted. Even the climate control looses the heater portion, its aircon or nothing. No dual zone climate control either. And no 1.8 nor 2L Altis in SG where both are common place in Malaysia and Thailand.

The only redeeming point is that it comes with LED headlights. But you can upgrade to real LED lightbulbs in your Forte if u want. Philips and Osram sells direct replacement bulbs.

The City we have in SG is too low specs already. When u see what u can buy in Malaysia, we keep kicking ourselves why we are paying so much money for an empty shell.

This is why u hardly see the new City on the road these days.

Just bought a kia k3 tempation red.... sadly no lip spoiler... dunno where to get.

Yes interested in the lip spoiler too but on eBay mostly sellin black or if painted you have to trust the seller to get the colour right.

Any local shops that sells them?

Depends on how much highway you use.

i can get about 13km/l on 80% highway.

if you are looking at OPC, the petrol should not be a big factor. Please note that the EX price should be less than 100k.

I believe for Kia cars, there are 2 agents... C&C, and C&C Fulco (Correct me if I'm wrong). I am probably the few fools who purchased the lancer instead of a K3 at this price climate.

The effort which C&C Fulco (whom I purchased from) places in for the 6-bids non-guranteed is appalling (53k for the Mar 1st bidding, and never bid for the Mar 2nd bidding). So you probably have to prepare to wait or even prepare yourself for not getting the car.
