Antenna broken, system shouldnt have went into failsafe mode?

I know my r/c heli, drone and boat, first thing to do is set failsafe mode. Lost of signal, model will go into failsafe mode. Drone will return to home. The others will just stop operating, engine/motor cut.

What kind of engineer design such system in SMRT? [hur]

In the past, a Workshop will have one chief engineer (called : Principal Technical Officer aka PTO) and few engineers under him to oversee everything. They cover every aspects of the field they are in.

Nowadays, in order not to let one chief engineer tohold on to power, theycreated various departmentsand more jobs. So came the electrical engineer, electronic engineer, system engineer, operation engineer, mechanical engineer, ...... etc, don't know what some more engineers......

So when electrical fault, they rest will said Heng Ah, "boh wah aye tai chi". Same goes for the rest of the department. I ever attach to one firm and when ask something, one would say, don't know, can ask the other department or go to the right department to enquire... :a-bang:.

One simple sentence : Left Hand Don't Know What Right Hand Doing.... :lll._.:

It had come to a selfish stage that : "We all getting the same pay, whyshould cover the sh*t for you" mentally ..... :a-m1524:

Totally different from the 60's. 70's and the 80's. We work hard & strivetogether for the better of the company. Seldom heard of the word 'Job Hopping' . Job hopping only heard in those'line operators' in electronic or garment firms where they go to whateverfirm that can offer better $ per hour.

Thing started to change in the 90's when one not happy in a company, resign and go for another. No more the long servicestaff of 20yrs and above.Sad to say, 65% of them at least doing 2 jobs in the past 15 years.... -_-

That's what I see in today's world... :darkmood:

Smrt request likely will be a big scale action that required LtA approval. I will find it hard that this level of decision making isn't float up to him.

Nowadays, operator very likely has to co-pay for the repair & maintenance. If nothing has been agreed btw both parties, unlikely it will float up to Hui Ge.

Whatever cost that operator submit to LTA, it will be challenged a zillion time by LTA.

If Desmond thinks LTA is a stumbling block, he can always go & see Hui Ge

I suppose it doesn't matter much to us for SMRT to identify the precise fault causing delays.

Track fault is very general but myself I'd feel much happier if they stated the exact fault causing delays.

Is it the running rail, the third rail, the signalling etc

And train fault should be more detailed as well. Is it electrical, brakes, a/c, driver problem, etc etc.

Shirley the report to top management is more detailed. Or is it???

Who coordinates all this so that they get a good idea where the failures lay and they can then maintain and replace better if necessary.

Commuters frustrated after SMRT hit by 3 track faults in a day

SINGAPORE: Commuters were left frustrated after transport operator SMRT was hit by three train delays in the span of a day, with two track faults occurring on the North-South Line and another on the East-West Line on Tuesday (Aug 2).

SMRT first alerted commuters in a tweet at about 8.55am, saying there was no train service between Boon Lay and Joo Koon stations on the East-West Line due to a track fault.

Three minutes later, the transport operator sent out another tweet informing commuters to factor in an additional 10 minutes of travelling time between Yishun and Woodlands stations on the North-South Line due to another track fault. Free bus services between the two stations were available, it said.

Train service on the North-South Line resumed at about 9.20am, SMRT said, while service on the East-West Line resumed at 9.37am.

Later on Tuesday morning, the North-South Line was again hit by another disruption at about 11.40am. A train travelling on the line moved intermittently, according to a Channel NewsAsia reporter who was on board the train. An announcement on the train told commuters to factor in additional travelling time due to a track fault near Admiralty station.

In a tweet sent out at 1.26pm, SMRT said engineers were attending to the track fault. At 1.47pm, it said normal train service had resumed.

Commuters took to social media to express their frustration at the delays.

The antenna was faulty and it continued to travel non-stop for a few stations.

Can't imagine if the fault happened at the last station and there were no further stations to provide the buffer.

    Maybe it is like this.

"The recent track fault was because there was a circuit trip because of an overload in the system." . Engineer report
"Solutions? ." CEO or whoever in charge
"Either we spend millions to overhaul the entire system while shutting it down for one month or we keep monitoring the situation and try to enhance our responses " engineer solution.
"OK. Keep monitoring the situation and let me know if there are issues in your response system. Present any issues in the next board meeting next month. Good job with the fire fighting. Any overhaul of the system will need a budget approval by shareholders so I need more data on a consistent basis". Ceo or designate.

Next meeting same thing. Imagine the ceo presenting what the engineer say to the shareholders and shareholders say the same thing except the voting for budget keep getting delayed. And the press officer just keep telling the press track fault. Not like the press officer can say what happened in the meetings.

Disclaimer. Not in the know of the meetings. Used circuit breaker trip as the simplest way to present my point, not that I know what happened to cause the disruptions.

Antenna rosak should make the train stop, not run faster. Listen to all these monkeys tock cock. :XD:I am caught by surprise that got people believe in this logic. Even non-engineering people also know that the system is always designed to be on the conservative side should there be a failure. So, it should slow down and stop!!! NOT runaway!!!

Despite the numerous breakdowns, boos boos and 2 deaths under the watch of the Army boy general, nothing much was changed (if this is in Japan/Korea, CEO head probably break away from the neck from the umpteen bowing to the public in shame)

Three SMRT workers diagnosed with TB

Two SMRT train drivers and one crew manager have contracted tuberculosis (TB).

The Straits Times understands that the three - from Tanah Merah station - were diagnosed four to six weeks ago. Two were found to have latent TB, and the other was found to have active TB. Latent TB is not contagious, but can develop into contagious active TB if untreated.

When they visited the train manufacturing plant in China, they were delighted over the cheap price and there was a signage which showed "Guarantee No Spoil".

They thought that they have struck a good deal and brought all the carriages back. One failed after the other and they decided to go back to the plant again and question the claim stated on the signage.

    And so, they were told:

E-bus to ply public route in trial lasting six months

An electric bus will be tested out for the first time in Singapore on a public route, in a pilot which could see more of such green vehicles being used for mass transport.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) revealed to The Straits Times yesterday that it is working with Shenzhen-based automaker BYD and bus operator Go-Ahead Singapore on a six-month trial to assess the suitability of e-buses for public transport.

The single bus to be used in the trial is a single-deck K9 model from BYD (Build Your Dreams) which can carry a total of 80 passengers. Commuters can hop on this bus on one of the services that will be operated by Go-Ahead Singapore, the LTA said.

Ice showers from air-con vents of some trains trigger fleetwide checks

    ST ILLUSTRATION: MANNY FRANCISCO
    Senior Transport Correspondent
It never snows in Singapore but some MRT commuters are feeling the chill - thanks to ice showers coming from the air-conditioner vents of some trains.

The phenomenon happened on China-made trains plying the Circle Line. The Straits Times understands that there were at least two incidents last month.

On a train heading from Bartley to Kent Ridge on a Saturday morning, ice shards - some the size of a little finger - blasted from a vent. The train was evacuated mid-journey.

The second incident took place on a Monday afternoon on a train from Bras Basah to Serangoon, when ice particles fell from above.

The trains were designed by French manufacturer Alstom and assembled in China. Their air-conditioning system was jointly designed by Alstom and Chinese equipment supplier King.

The Land Transport Authority told The Straits Times it was aware of the freezing flaw, and was taking steps to rectify it.

"The forming of the ice particles was caused by the excessive cooling of the air-conditioning system," said an LTA spokesman. "Rectification works are being carried out, and we are also conducting fleetwide checks as a precautionary measure."

She added that there was no impact on train operations as the rectification works and checks are done concurrently when the trains are undergoing their scheduled preventive maintenance.

She also said such problems are not specific to trains, and "can happen to home air-conditioning systems and refrigerators".

Professor Choo Fook Hoong of the Energy Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University said that while the phenomenon does arise, "it is not common".

"Usually, it's when the sensor is faulty and it is not detecting temperatures accurately," he said, adding that the air-con would then run continuously and humidity in the air condenses before ice forms.

Prof Choo said the flaw is relatively easy to fix - by replacing the faulty sensor.

Rival transport group ComfortDelGro Corp said it has encountered ice forming on the air-con vents of its Downtown Line trains too.

Last month, there were also reports of water streaming down from the air-con vents of an East-West Line train.

Last time, one WRX banged my car from behind... Come out also said "no impact". TMD.

Why everybody so kan cheong..... :pissed-off:

It is a Circle Line mar....... SMRT letting you feel the four seasons inside the circle line. Only Circle Line can have the four seasons feeling as the train goes round & round. :a-fun:

As the train goes round the line, it started with Spring Rain (where water comes down from roof), then it went into Summer Heat (all air-con closed and you get saunafeeling).

Next come Autumn Chilling feeling (air-con blowing at 14 degree C) and lastly, Winter Freezing feeling(where Ice chips falling from roof)

They had promised "First World Transport" and they are getting nearer totheir promises.... :a-happy:
