Let's see what excuse they give this time round ... maybe some crap reason, and said these do not constitute to the restart of the record :D

Car-lite? How to when trains are so unreliable?

Car-lite? refers to commoners getting lesser coe and allowing companies like uber, grab to bid for the coe ... and how to be car-lite when the roads are filled with taxis?!

Power traction fault again? And its the 2ND time that involves both north-south and east-west line together.

How long more they want to deny that the root of the problem still not found. If root of the problem is not found, not matter what solution that come out ( thinking that might be the cause of the problem) will not solve anything one.

think KBW said it will take about 4-5 years of upgrades to decouple this power thing.

    Just received.

Can we classify the Khaw Effect as a weapon of mass destruction? The reverberation is still wrecking havoc after so many days!
  • 25 April 2016 - 09:21 PM

think KBW said it will take about 4-5 years of upgrades to decouple this power thing.

Ya, but then why 10yrs ago no such problem?

Think about it.. The newer batch of train are a lot heavier then the older batch. It's about 1/3 of the passenger load heavier.. ( remember reading an article about the newest batch of train being heavier by about 1/3 of the passenger load)

So imagine, population size increase, okay we can't control how many people go into the train. So train gets more crowded as compared to 10yrs ago.. Fine.. But we can control the weight of the train.. They can order train made of lighter material. Lighter train also more cost friendly as no need so much power to run as compared to heavier train.

So combination of the 2, train weight plus increase in passenger load.. You all say leh.. So that also explains why the 2 major breakdown happens in evening time, where train are at full load.. Think that past the major peak load factor lor. That's my guessing..

They should design the train system in such a way that there are two set of power supply, if one down then can activate the other one. So that train would not get affected?!

MRT stations do not have manpower to manage large crowds.... because they want to maximise profits. even transitlink office also understaffed, now only one staff and she has to go for lunch break at odd hours. one staff apologised to me once and I said its OK, I don't blame her. The apology from SMRT's corporate comms is by now a template ... just change date and station names can already ...

They should design the train system in such a way that there are two set of power supply, if one down then can activate the other one. So that train would not get affected?!

From my engineering experience with vessels, they dont work this way. We have four sets of power supply but will not cut in just like that. Only emergency switchboard with be activated in case of power failure. Essential electrical equipment will be powered while you determine the fault.

It should never automatically cut in. It is like adding oil to a fire. Breaker already trip, you do not use an alternative power supply to power the breaker again!!! U have to find the fault, isolate the problem and then restore the power.

    Just my two cents. :D
