I read that SMRT CEO received a record bonus lately. Well, some will say is not his fault bcos no one expected this to happen.

Poor minister who gets lower pay than the CEObut have to work overtime last night and apologize for the breakdown.

Kee chiu must be feeling the heat as well....

Many of the comments on LTY and SMRT's page are about how ourpaper generals don't have enough experience and should not be parachuted into important positions.....

Was reading the report on his salary increment last night -

    One comment that amused me..

Part of the pay rise was because he faced a "challenging situation" when he came in ...

If like that, then next year his salary goes up to how much?

With this sort of breakdown - super challenging!!

Now the real question today is...

which is better - that Desmond takes responsibility that Ah Khaw suggested or that he is kept in the position as the "best person available" -

I'm not a believer in competent people resigning for the sake of appearances - at the same time though, responsibility must be taken.

Recently, I was asked if I was going to fire an employee who made a mistake that cost the company $600,000. No, I replied, I just spent $600,000 training him. Why would I want somebody to hire his experience? (Thomas J Watson)

    Give u another scenario.

imagine husband and wife are stuck on the train, need to rush back to the childcare to pick up the children because childcare closes at 7pm... what happens to the children if husband and wife had no backup / help to pick up the children?

the implication is more than just what LTA and SMRT thinks... its a chain effect...

It's not only NS / EW - wifey also delayed departure from office, then walked to Clark Quay (instead of take Down Town Line) due to crowds.

One mother took 2 hours plus to reach home

On my FB feed I saw one Malay lady missed her break fast...

    This reminds me of...

    http://www.todayonli...-better-service

"It is easy and perhaps understandable to complain about fare increases, especially since service levels do not seem to have improved measurably in recent years and there are concerns about whether funds from higher fares would be spent wisely.

However, with costs rising faster than fares, it is hard to see how SBS Transit and SMRT can make significant improvements without a little more money than the very small increase the Public Transport Council (PTC) has proposed."

So with such a GRAND breakdown, we WILL BE EXPECTING ANOTHER INCREASE... so apparently the last increase was STILL NOT ENOUGH...

The newest batch of train which will be in service in year 2016 is even heavier then the current new one may cause even more problem. Don't know why smrt order train that the weight keep increase. Couldn't they order train that would at least maintain the weight? Like the newest batch is a lot heavier then the older one by 1/4 when full load. That could put a lot more stress to the track.

Imagine they detect power fault due to faulty train. Is it really 100% because of fault train? Could it be the weight of the train combine with too many people in the train that cause the train to sag down to the level that may be dangerously low and touch the power line that causes power surge and trip the whole ns Ew line?

The manufacturers (Kawasaki in this case) of the trains won't be so dumb to design the chassis with insufficient stiffness when fully loaded..

it was a very difficult and challenging decision to make

to step out from an environment where he was the emperor and had thousands pandering to all his whims without any consideration for difficult issues like revenue, profit and loss, answering to shareholders

    I gotta wonder -

Since when AMK so empty one?

Today also I take from Pasir Ris - never seen trains so empty at rush hour

I laughed at my facebook though ...

CNA Reported that he was "spotted" at AMK - like they "just happen" to come across him

The very next post in my feed was an interview with at least four microphones with him at ..... AMK station....

    Yeah...not orchestrated in the slightest

wayang is in their blood. What did you expect?

it was a very difficult and challenging decision to make

to step out from an environment where he was the emperor and had thousands pandering to all his whims without any consideration for difficult issues like revenue, profit and loss, answering to shareholders

if i were him, i would also demand at least $2m in compensation to leave the SAF

I wonder.......u mean wif a $2M+/annual salary budget, they couldn't poach an super duper experienced London Tube, NY subway or Tokyo JR chief to run our little MRT network and had to rely on a paper general wif zeo experience to do the job?? The mind boggles. [dizzy][dizzy]

You mean it is easier to photoshop than to go down and actually be there?

Ask him to wayang by going down to MRT only leh... Not Tora bora.

of course easier to shop lah

in a few mins, his scholars will produce pics of him in all 113 MRT stations, as well as all LRT platforms and bus interchanges

only giveaway is his clothes and pose will be the same in every pic

Other than to investigate, I think he needs some show of leadership especially for his employees who seem to be very lost despite going through many similar situations, crisis management, assurance of passenger safety and getting them out of the trouble. If I'm taking the heat on the ground, I'd like to see some support from my top leader to give some directions, it is not template announcements that we're talking about here. I think leadership has been missing for a long time.

You think he knows where or what the problem lies? Better to stay silent dan to say something clownish and get mocked by all of us.

Let them investigate until song song first. The smrt spokesperson will eventually come out and say something.

Last evening as I was driving from AMK to Yishun, not the expressway, to pick up my stranded wife I can see trains stranded on tracks, mrt stations flooded with passengers, most likely in confusion. I told my wife to meet me at Northpoint shopping mall to have dinner, I think it was around 7.30pm when we had our dinner. Imagine our friends who have to break fast. Stranded dunno where, tired and hungry.

On our way back home taking the CTE. We saw on the other direction towards Woodlands and Yishun the expressway was filled with taxis. Looking at social media it's no wonder that so many ppl are angry.

Yeah. But we're dealing with a major public incident, cannot hide in bunker anymore. In time of crisis, the boss needs to go out and give assurance, show leadership to regain trust in his company, give support to his employees so they know they know their boss is behind them and they get all the resources needed to resolve the incident. This is what CEOs do. Investigation and administration is for the engineers and middle management people, don't need him to kay poh.

Didn't army Generals work inside deep bunkers with only electronic gadgets and walkie talkies all round their conference table. Where got on the ground one... :serious-business:

Does anyone know of best way to be notified of breakdowns?

I want to know at point it happened and from an official source, so as to make alternative travel plan BEFORE reaching the bloody station.

Think Transitlink got no more SMS already.

Is SMRT twitter fast reacting enough? How to make phone only sound an alert notification from only that SMRT channel?

    Sorry I noob

    frm tuckyou's FB:

Keith LangDear Minister, I feel sorry for you. A lot of these issues probably are not your fault, but you will face the brunt of public anger because of your position, just like your predecessor, Raymond Lim, who was removed from the Cabinet. ...

The more I think about it, the more I feel that the appointment of the Transport Minister is used as a scapegoat for failed planning by other Ministers. The Transport Minister is not directly responsible for the vast influx of immigrants. And both Raymond Lim and Lui Tuck Yew are not in the PAP EXCO. Does that say something by itself?

When public transport fails, at most the public will complain against Raymond Lim or Lui Tuck Yew, when they fail to realise it is the broader economic policy which has brought about these failures.
