KIA K3 Owners check-in! part 25

  • 09 November 2015 - 11:56 AM

    Hi Guys,

    Need some advices...

In my previous ride, if I am not usingfor a long period (few weeks), I would lock manually with key (so that the alarm will not tap on the battery).

So for K3, I understand that even if we lock with the key, the alarm is still armed. Anyway to disarm the alarm ?

Also, for the Thinkware camera, we can just unplug the power cable, right ?

Anyone can share some advices ?

    Thx in advance...

Actually, I'm from another school of thought which doesn't believe in run in anymore... I drive like I would a car the first day I collect the new car and yes, I did whack my vios above 160kmh to kl when the odo read 700+km only... By the time I send for my 1k free service, odo read 1700+km already... And no problem with gb or engine... Same for my current latio .... Hehe.... Not for fainted heart thou... I know most people will feel heart pain when see how I hit nearly red line on first week of collecting my new car... Hehe...

Vios is known to be quite sturdy... maybe can tahan

Some people heck care now with the logic that the dockworkers etc. that are involved in your car's journey to you may have already abuse it liao.... my car collected got like 72km i think on odo.... [confused]

Hey all, about running in, hope this helps. The below pointers are taken from the KIA Forte K3 owner's manual:

No special break-in period is needed. By following a few simple precautions for the first 600 miles (1,000 km) you may add to the performance, economy and life of your vehicle.

    • Do not race the engine.
    • While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
    • Do not maintain a single speed for long periods of time, either fast or slow. Varying engine speed is needed to properly break-in the engine.
    • Avoid hard stops, except in emergencies, to allow the brakes to seat properly.
    • Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes at one time.
    • Don't tow a trailer during the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) of operation.

Yup, that is the standard paragraph in the manual for breaking in.

Hmm 72km seems a bit too far. Mine was 24km.

Haha, on the bright side, it's better to check the car properly before leaving the showroom. Idling for a little longer, to check the car would save some headache. Like for me, it was during this check that I found a paint defect on the front bumper. KIA fixed it FOC at my 10k servicing.

Thanks!.. that's a great pull out from owner's manual... but too late for me, mine just broke 1000km last week and serviced.

My lousy SE definitely did not read the manual...

    • Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes at one time.

While handing over, it was idled for at least 10mins...

Just ordered my K3 SX from Car Expo last week, waiting for COE bidding, hoping to get my new ride before Christmas. Can't wait.

Wanted the SX Sports, but was told that no more sports version, only SX. So disappointed, therefore settled with SX without a choice. Anyway, still very excited.

Did not take their car cam as freebie cos wanted to install myself outside when i get my ride, probably front and rear. Can i check, the Thinkware car cam C&C providing, does it come with some sort of power magic thing, that allow the car cam to continue recording while parked and away from the car?

Will collect my EX at the end of Nov too.. Will try out Supremo as well!!

How is the quality of their cquartz for those have tried? Much better than ceramic 9H coating?

SX means you pay cheaper insurance without the sunroof. Which is good for your pocket...lol

I also heard from my SA 2 airbags for my SX. But saw on sgcarmart the latest updates for SX, stating 6 airbags. Confusing. Can anybody confirm?

Other than the 3 items listed above, i think also don't have the auto dimming rear mirror. That's what i heard from my SA. Annoying thing is their catalogue given does not have any information on what features have and don't have. No black and white, all verbal.

Before signing, make the SE sign on the equipment list of what your car is getting.

I have no idea myself. When I booked my EX, I only know that it came with smart key, which served as immobilizer.

Then the attachment shared showed EX has keyless entry.. What does keyless entry mean, actually? Just press button to unlock door? Or those keeping key in your pocket, and you can press button on door ledge to unlock?

Nowadays, Tires are made in Thailand / Indonesia, like Bridgestone. Only Toyo Tires still made in Japan.

Continental and Goodyear made in Germany.

K3 now down spec Liao.. Bring in price (omv) shld be lower too.. Translate to lower cost n so lower selling price, but same profit margin for cnc... Consumer getting lower grade product but cheaper..

Yes they will.. I rem I got $60 for each Nexen tyre.. but drove only 60km on them before i traded them in... ask the tyre shop for the best trade in price, to offset against the new tyres you're getting from them...

    welcome to the K3 family.

Collecting my new K3 today. Anyone knows if it is okay to drive to KL during the initial 1,000 km run in period? I know the manual says keep below 4,000 rpm, but is there any speed limit? Is 110 or 120 km/hr okay?

My manual said below 3000rpm leh.. Or i read wrongly.. :slow:

Anyway, I would not do that, although I think it is OK.. You can keep rpm low by slowly accelerating, and achieve 100km/h slower.. I drove around 90km/h on AYE - PIE daily during running in..

Thanks for all your advice...I think I will not do that - will use my old ride instead and collect my new K3 when I get back from Malaysia, though it means I will 'lose' a few days since the new car is already registered. Hope it is safe to keep the new car at the AD.

Just wondering if any bros here noticed that the b pillar of the K3 is actually adhesive vinyl tape? Very surprised that it is when my gal open the door and damaged it. When i close inspection, turns out to be a sticker peeling off.

Try not to drive so fast probably stay within speed limits first but u need to rev your engine up and down but not beyond 4k for a start.

Also higher speed also more prone to rock chip damage easily as my ride gotten its first big chip off during 1st week of ownership despite 5 layer of protection managed to resist it and only seen a bit of plastic but I probably driving too fast :P. Covered it up with a HKS badge on bodykit. LOL. New again.

Can I ask, the eurostyle HU when connected to IPod via the USB, need to use linkpod function to play ah?

Can just use the default 'Music' function to control and play my iPod music?

And did anyone change their spark plug to iridium spark plugs?

    Hi all,

Please pardon me, I am a newbie here.

I have been driving the K3 for a month now. So far so good.

Would like to ask if any of the people here faced any issue at all with the car?

    If so, what issue?

Can share? so that I can be on the look out for these.

For K3 soon to be owners, I would recommend to ask for the sun screen as part of the package.

Useful for ppl with kids. fit nicely onto the windows.

My radio reception is very bad too! Can't really hear anything in tunnels. Is it because K3 does not have exposed antenna anymore? My previous ride Cerato Forte does not have this problem.

Hi ElvisTkh, is your radio reception issue resolved?

Is it stock or after market?

Any bro here drive on ECP (between MCE and Changi)?

My radio reception is bad at this stretch.

It should not be the radio station issue because the bad reception happens with all channels and I do not recall it happening with my previous car's HU.

My HU is the aftermarket "Eurostyle Multimedia System" installed by C&C.

I told the service advisor and he had noted it.

But he have not heard from other owners.

If any bros here have the same problem, do highlight during servicing.

If this is indeed a common problem, then they could investigate.

Otherwise, mine could just be an isolated case.
