Back then one month ago, I asked them whether got HID and they told me no, it's just projector with halogen, so I asked how come originally car got HID now don't have, can have?

He told me I can wait for new model with bodykit and factory HID... (the new sport trim)
Seems your SE either didn't know or want sale faster.

no wonder my SE gave discount on existing stock for SX... cuz they were clearing way for the SX Sports.... my SE not upfront about the new model...

i specifically asked if there will be an update soon, how come have discount for existing stock. He said he was not aware of any updates.

maybe he told me about it (didn't call it SX sport, just say "new model") because I was "very disappointed that it didn't come with xenon headlamps"

same for me... well.... at least we got to enjoy the car earlier... good things come to people who wait i guess with the benefit of hindsight.

maybe joining the CEVS rush wasn't a good idea now that Sports SX become the standard SX and price keep falling hehe

Yah lor, but the disappointment is strong. I'm quite miffed that the SE did not alert us to this. I've written in to KIA anyway. Will update if and when I hear from KIA.

The discount now is small compared to the discount given for SX Sport buyers. :( haha

Not the right way to do business, I guess. So we are in the same boat. We asked for HID. At least you got a "you can wait". I got a flat "no".

The positive about this is that... the disappointment is towards the sales staff... but so far most of us are happy with the car itself :)

Yea, I think the car is great. No doubt about that, for now, as the car is new.but yea, just the sian feeling caused by the drop in car price (not much change in COE though) and the increase in the number of features. Like Kena cheated haha

Have you sat in both cars before?

If the Forte dash and overall cabin design is basic, then I wonder what's Altis, the current POS FB Civic are called?
ya... v basic... kia k3..... really? Compare to honda city, the K3 wins in almost all specs/features provided except for the fuel consumption and rear camera view. Plus the city costs more than the K3 sports SX....

however i must say the new city was a big step up and improvement interior wise compared to the old city. However when i walked around the Kah motors showroom, the design of the city (Exterior and interior) didn't attract me at all.... the only cars i test drove from them were the jazz and the HRV

I feel that these SE are kept in the dark most of the time to avoid these situations like what we hear now. Imagine their contradictions when they try to sell us a car now when the future is a better deal for us.
hmm how is your fuel efficiency on K3? What petrol + brand u all pump ar?
Ours quite bad leh...idk is this is normal for K3 8.8/100km our best was 8.7 duh!
Depends on a few important factors like % highway, avg number of people in the car etc.

For 85% highway, avg 1.1 person, i am returning 7.5l per 100km.
i think this car is pretty small, same class as honda city, it would be better if it can be bigger. Interior wise also look very basic in terms of design...

hehe and if you look at most comparsions, the Kia K3 is considered to be in the same category as the civic, mazda 3, toyota altis, Elantra, nissan sylphy VW Jetta.

The city in my view... is more comparable to the smaller cars like the Kia rio, Hyundai Accent, toyota vios etc.

i think this car is pretty small, same class as honda city, it would be better if it can be bigger. Interior wise also look very basic in terms of design...

Wrong comparison... K3 is same size as a Civic/Corolla. But I suppose it looks a bit smaller due to being rounder.

Interior design, basic? With the driver-angled center console, faux carbon and wave-look? I've seen worse and there is no other car in this price-bracket or the B&B compact class with nearly as much equipment.

The Honda City is mediocre on the interior design side, it looks decent but if you equate black gloss to premium design I suppose you'd think the City's interior looks good. Its meters are also old-fashioned and even its gear stick looks old-fashioned. Then there's the varying shapes. The vents and the HondaLink infotainment shroud are all wedge shaped, but then you have circular steering wheel buttons and ignition button, then triple barrel instrument cluster. imo, City's interior design is just not well sorted, it's rather ... incoherent in my eyes.
Are you just confusing the monotone color scheme of the Forte's interior for "design"?

If anything I'd say the Forte has the best in-class interior, if not the Mazda 3.

If the Forte dash and overall cabin design is basic, then I wonder what's Altis, the current POS FB Civic are called?

I think I'd just call the Civic's interior "dated"... but it was amazingly cool when it came out, I still love the two-tier layout, but the rest of the interior could do with some serious refreshment. And all the black gloss plastic, ugh, I hate black gloss.

i specifically asked if there will be an update soon, how come have discount for existing stock. He said he was not aware of any updates.
My SE was also 'selling' the guaranteed package for SX and offering discount when I was there to view and test drive the car. Think C & C wanted to clear the old stock asap.
I booked with him as he's not pushy when I opted for non-guaranteed package and gave the same discount to me for the SX Sports.

This car is pretty competitive size wise. You can take a look at the link below (signature). The k3 has leg/shoulder/etc room comparable to its competitors.

hehe big is good for comfort and storage.... but not so good normally for handling and parking.

as long as the size fits your requirements for family/transporting groceries/golf clubs etc, it is a good size.

i havent selected PPS. hehe looking for good recommendations too! I think i will be driving this K3 long term, should be worth it to protect the paintwork.

does PPS protect the white from turning yellowish/off white in the long term?
I advocate waxing by yourself. More fulfilling, and you get a workout at the same time!
i think this car is pretty small, same class as honda city, it would be better if it can be bigger. Interior wise also look very basic in terms of design...
This car has got the same wheel base (2700mm) as Nissan Sylphy, Toyota Altis, Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, 30mm longer than Honda Civic. Honda City wheel base in only 2600mm. Only price comparison will be around same class as Honda City. Else all the features are much much more as I read from the features listed.

Actually nowadays those good wax+synthetic resin protection can be had for less than $60 per bottle. It is very easy to apply and rub off and it last 3-5 months per application.

I haven't settle on a new car yet, but I would be planning to go for a PPS/detailing session ASAP if I collect a new car.

Not for the shine/gloss because I don't care that much for reflections, but to protect the paint (as per the term "paint protection system"). PPS usually at least makes it easier to do quick washes on the car I think, and I don't see myself being the kind who will manually wash the car every two weeks, let alone once a week.

I would be keen on doing with Ace GT with regards to PPS as I quite like their comprehensive coverage of the entire car in terms of exterior, interior, windscreen and rims but of course the price also is on the high side. But it doesn't matter since pay so much for a car already, what is an additional few grand more to protect it?

I'll be proceeding with them once my Caressential package finishes with C&C.

Ace GT asking for 4-digits? How many years long protection plan?
I agree though, comprehensive cover of interior and exterior detailing is probably worth it for resale and personal satisfaction... especially since our cars are subjected to such weather and already so much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I myself thinking of Elite or GroomersLab. Since both are more accessible for me. Elite's pricing seems a bit on the higher side though, GroomersLab don't mention any prices publicly.
But if I end up with another pre-owned then I think it depends on how much I like the new acquisition...

$1,568 for just the exterior but haven't include the rest. This is for their extreme package, price is before discount.

Honestly bro, if pre-owned and more than 3 or 4 years old then I think choose a simple package with detail mania will do. Unless is new car then really can consider Elite or Ace GT. The only consideration you need to think about is whether you want nano-ceramic technology or glass coating or others like crystal quartz etc. Another reason I choose Ace GT is because C&C coated mine with nano-sealant so I thought better to stick with the same idea moving forward.

Not sure if it's the right logic but I guess it's the best option

Nothing lasts forever one lah so take it that these people want to manage your expectations so that you don't expect one coating to really go the distance and also for recurring business lah.

Likewise, if you think your car don't need this sort of coating then go ahead and wash it as per usual and go for the occassional waxing and polishing if need be. Do remember that waxing and polishing does indeed cause some damage to the original paintwork of your car.

Correction. Its the current CMI FB Civic interior that looked like a mess.

The FD Civic interior design still looks damn good and modern some 9 yrs after its introduction! Why I know? Becos I am driving a 2008 FD1 now. The design still looks futuristic without going the Star Wars way.

The current FN Civic dash was clearly a case of change-just-for-the-sake-of-changing. And worse still, the team who did it was probably high on drugs or an overdose of Japs porn that they couldn't even think straight.

Based on my research only Ace & CS-II will go above 3digits. Elite,Toughguard,Kosh,Groomers, Mania, Exquisite, Opti, Lucky are all well below $600.
Like some said, if every 1 year need to go back for touchup or recoating, its nore like plastic rather den ceramics/glass. Also, might as well go for full package every year given the much lower cost.
Btw C&C paint protection is using what tange of products? $500 , top up a bit more can do from the abv shops I mention. . and inclusive of free car washes liao

Honda City has a lot of rear legroom (almost if not more than a previous Camry, quite amazing actually), but that's about it. I found the roof too low. And it looks ridiculously narrow from the outside due to the relatively high rear lid.

The K3's sides are probably a bit too plain, but the City doesn't really look all that high-end either. And its tires are so small looking.

Reliability? Well it depends... my FD1 isn't exact very durable from the 5 yr onwards. Yes the car never failed me once and it starts everytime and the engine remain super smooth like day one, but the suspension parts, wheel bearings, engine mountings all failed much faster than I'd expect them to be. And these parts are expensive to replace

Great Reliability doesn't apply to Subaru, Nissan and Mitsubishi hor... doesn't mean its a Japs brand=super reliable.

Also, as I've posted b4, even if the car is reliable, you have to factor in parts durability as well... If the parts gets worn out much faster or sooner than its peers or industry average, the car can be expensive to maintain too.

The 2L Nu Turbo will be a significant improvement in fuel economy and of cos power.
The new gen Forte will look something like this....

Honda cars belongs to the reliable but not very durable category.

Now that really looks like a "tiger nose"!

Dunno about here... Korean reliability has been top notch in the European countries and their 5 year warranty is quite good. In fact I think they said of the Pro c'eed: "there's a seven year warranty, but you are not expected to need it at all!" (because the car is that reliable).

And Honda Civic wear & tear seems to be quite high according to users here

My brother Civic 2.0L GB failed at 130k even though he change ATF regularly. Petrol tank was also changed due to leak.
My Father Picanto just scrap on Feb this year after COE expired. Only normal wear and tear in 10yrs usage.

The new Optima doesn't require separate foglamps assembly. The foglamps are integrated into the headlamps assembly. Not many models do this but this is a great design IMHO

My FD1 GB also showing signs of slippage on the 1st and 2nd gear at light throttle And my mileage at ard 88k only TMD... I dare not even want to know how much the cost is going to be...

If they don't bring in, buyers will have to pay extra since normal GDI Nu engines cant qualify for the super strict CEVS. And fuel economy is going to suffer.

The old Theta II simply have no chance to get qualified for any rebates

C&C and Komoco here do bring in well equipped cars (mostly...) but it just seems they are really reluctant to bring in their best drive trains. Either that or it's something that the Korean HQ don't want... which would be strange
Regent Motors also didn't bring in Focus with 1.0L EcoBoost turbo
seriously when i look at this car at the car park with many other cars around, my impression is this car is small n inferior grade le, just the immediate gut feel, no offence... and when i tailgating this car, i also find it darn small just like the feeling when i tailgating an rx8... just my honest feeling...
What about your feel of the Hyundai Elantra?
Edited by Bluebull, 13 June 2015 - 05:03 PM.
What about your feel of the Hyundai Elantra?
Personal feel.. Elantra seems wider from the rear view, maybe coz of the fact that the boot seems to extend higher.. but if do dimension comparison, our K3 is still bigger, wider and longer

The Elantra does seem wider to me too. Perhaps looks can be deceiving. However, size is just one of the aspects of a car. There are many factors to consider as well.

I'll rate a quiet car one of the top 3 consideration

Come to think of it... why were you tailgating???????
he wants to tell us that he can tailgate even an RX8. Perhaps he is driving a real performance car.
But why bother with the K3, a family car?

Its adaptive beam setup that's getting quite common in western countries.

Of cos, the good old foglamp switch is still there for users to switch on the foglamps manually
wow.... didn't realize people still debating K3 a lot even after 2 years...

Anyway, still loving my K3 till today after 8 months owning it..

Yeah, I wish for HID headlight as well but I'm not complaining.... Different timing have different configuration/packages for car... This applied to other AD too..

As for the K3 compare to new Honda City... hmm.. this is that fellow entitled to his own views. Creating new account just to shoot K3 only... Probably some K3 owner offended him previously, so just create new account to do so...

But as far as personal feel... both are different class.. As for comparing to Elantra, personally both are spacious but for the rear passenger seats, there is a hump in the middle for Elantra, that my makes middle passenger slightly uncomfortable depending on the passenger height.. But, Elantra still quite spacious as well..

As for the SX Sports, saw the sports kit... not to my taste. I think previous gen Forte sports kitstill the best.

Yes, to me Honda City is different class from Kia K3, though City is much more expensive than K3. We always compare K3 to Mazda3, Honda Civic, Altis, Sylphy etc. If ask me choose between Honda and Kia, I will sure choose Kia K3 than Honda City. Reason? I just do not like Honda City and Honda Civic. The only Honda car I liked is Accord. Lol. Personal preference.

Logical... doubt Accent or Elantra or Rio will get...

Next gen Cerato/Forte or Sonata probably... i40 already has this technology, so does Cee'd, I think.
But, if it at least is coming to Optima it is a sign it is arriving to the mass-er sort of market.
Zzz... And the only B&B MT cars are only down to Nissan Almera and Hyundai Accent.

hi ivan. im a elantra driver myself. yes we do not chat over mcf. but we have an elantra club registered in the registry societies of singapore. we have a facebook page. We have events and meetups every month. We have road trips. We have group buys. Currently we have 95 registered club members. and we are like 1 big family. Do visit our fb page to see our videos. Just search elantra club on facebook.
This coming friday at kallang car park we will have our monthly meet up. Do come take a look. At least 25 cars will appear.

FYI, the current Optima 2.4 we have already came standard with steerable headlamps beam. The beam throw is auto adj based on your steering wheel angle.

have ah? I ask them Optima got steering beam they say don't have. Sonata also don't have, only i40 got AFLS.

Cornering angling beam not that rare now, but what is rare is fully adaptive pattern feature like ILS. Like, beam widen at slow speed, or throw further at high speed, etc.
In the Koreans I know the Forte doesn't have, Optima they told me at the time don't have in its bi-xenons, while i40 has full AFLS (but no high beam assistant). i40's also got dedicated cornering halogen in addition to its projector actuation. Not sure about their larger cars like the SUVs, but of course, Genesis has it.

Some cars I think don't have left/right angling but have only dedicated cornering light. Volkswagen Golf with the bi-xenons, I saw a video which show the projectors have angling.... VW SG told me though the car doesn't turn the projectors but use the foglamps as cornering lights. Not sure whether believe them or believe video

For Optima, the preFL version already have the AFLS. This is why Optima uses projector lens. The lens holder is electrically movable X and Y Axis.

For the FL Optima, that Dot matrix (some called it Microsoft Windows!) foglamps acts as extra cornering lights as well. Just like most new Euro cars are doing these days.

Its is true that the prev gen YF Sonata 2.4 doesn't have this feature. Only the i40 got it. But the current nobody-buys Sonata.... it has AFLS.

Newbie here! Just to share that my hubby & I hv booked a K3 SX Sports on Tuesday, shd be getting our new car soon.

Our 1st 2 cars were Jpn brand, & to be honest, we did not look into Korean brand back then when we bought our 1st car 13 yrs ago & 2nd car 9 yrs ago. Back then, Jpn brand cars were made in Jpn, but now that a lot had moved to Thailand, we thought why not look out for a continental car or Korea brand, told my hubby that I prefer Korea made than Thailand made, haha...

At first, I was planning to look at Hyundai first but after a salesperson from XX Jpn brand said their car is using YY engine & cars using such engine perform better, & mentioned which other brands that are using such engine, Kia was mentioned, so I ended up visiting Kia first before Hyundai. After visiting few brands, we decided on Kia Forte K3 SX Sports. We were attracted by the features that it offered as this was the only car in Cat A that can meet the features we're looking for like leg space, boot space & rear air-con!!! Rear air-con is really something that I hope for as it frustrates us as either front passengers are freezing or back passengers are melting! Of course, we were impressed by the other features that comes with it.
Thanks

I dunno what they talking about here... Hyundai & KIA under same corporate umbrella, so they are sharing drivetrain (engine & transmission) and platform (suspension, chassis design, etc.) ... Those larger older Korean cars (last gen) should be using an engine we call Theta-II... newer ones have Nu series engine (like i40).

As these engines are Hyundai motocorp developed though, they are not being used by any other brand especially those from Japan... who are mostly using their own engines, like Honda use their VTEC system engines and Toyota have VVT-i.
Unless your XX Jpn brand SE is just generalizing that all these cars have variable valve timing (Hyundai/KIA call this CVVT) 1.6L engines

I dare say the Japanese marques are too proud of their own engine technology to ever think of comparing their engines to Korean ones let alone say they are "using the same such engine".

Direct injection, huh? That's what I was actually expecting you to be referring to, though some of the Hyundai-KIA cars use MPi engines (multi-point injection) instead of GDi (gasoline direct injection).
In fact your SE could be wrong... KIA's website tells me the Forte sold here in 1.6L guise is a Gamma MPi and not a direct injection model (GDi).

Anyhow GDi is no longer a new thing or major selling point imo... of course a GDi engine is usually better performing, but to pitch your car based on GDi...

Are you using MTP or mass storage connection? if this eurostyle thing isn't very advanced it may need Mass Storage mode to work. Normally USB port for cars like this is for using a pen drive.

Oh, actually it was not KIA's SE who spoke abt direct injection. It was a Jpn brand AD SE who spoke abt it, promoting how gd their car engine is & list down which brands car engine using direct injection & KIA was mentioned, which led me to look at KIA. Indirectly, this Jpn brand AD SE helped to "promote" KIA & we ended up getting K3, haha...
Do u mind sharing what other discounts they can give against the listed price?
Thanks

I think asking for freebies would be easier than asking for discounts, & I believed would be the usual stuff like solar film, car camera, gps, etc, but I think it's also depending on the SE if he/she is willing to give. A new SE may be more willing to accommodate as they want to proof themselves whereas a more experienced SE may not be as willing, I find experienced SE usually more "cunning", haha...

Cash discounts wise, I would think the larger cars, usually those in Cat B, would have higher chance of getting it. I didn't ask Kia about their Cat B cars as K3 already meet a lot of the features that we're looking for, but for other brands, they can usually give at least 1k or even more, depending on car model.
Anyone considered this vs Mazda 3 or Altis?

I did... and some fellow K3ians too I believe..
My decision down to features and pricing... car is roomy and some others factor.. but pricing really a decision factor..
Both Altis and Mazda 3 have their advantages.. notably their FC.
I think choosing a car is still down to individual preferences and their expectations. If FC is a concern, K3 is no no.. not the best among 3, but still not worst. Happy Hunting!! :)
i would have chosen Altis(good FC) if not for the price. really love the new look.

but in terms of features and safety, K3 > Altis.

Actually for my case I did not choose Kia not because I do not like Kia. Is it because I am not aware Kia got all the features other car do not have. I did not choose Altis is because the seat is not comfortable though the AD given me a very good discount. I did not choose Mazda due to the height too low.

Sign on paper... No questions asked
A lot of people have compared Forte to Altis already since they are in the same class bracket and -close- enough in terms of price. Mazda 3 as well.

For me between MZ3 & Forte it is really a toss up depending on what you want. Agility and handling performance, good economy, classy interior with HUD, MZ3 for sure. If you are all about luxury, equipment and value for money, the Forte is arguably the best on the market in this class.

How much are you getting for your FC? During this school holiday, I can get 13.5km/l. Else, it is at least 12.5km/l for 80 hw.

I am looking at k3 as my next car.. Just curious, where do you get the facts or derive that k3 safety is better than mazda 3 and altis? Thanks.

I think they are grading it based on safety equipment relative to its price. All are 5-star NCAP-scorers but they have different layers of protection.

Altis is more expensive yet has least equipment, apparently it hasn't even got stability control program.
MZ3 is a bit more expensive than a Forte K3 but has a little less equipment.

The Forte has a generous list of equipment and this extends to its safety, which includes active assists like hill-start assist and VSM with ESC (stability management & skid control, the Mazda equivalents are labelled DSC & traction control), front parking sensors and I believe it has cruise control. I think it also has an auto-dimming rear view mirror. Lastly but not least I believe it has 6 airbags in total, two up over a MZ3 Deluxe. The KIA also has speed-sensing automatic door locks, a feature that the Mazda 3 has disabled for some weird reason in SG.

So in terms of safety vs cost the Forte is a bit better. It also has a pretty solid chassis, so it will stand up to collisions well just as these two Japanese cars will. But I imagine the extra two airbags can be meaningful to your rear passengers.

I think your fuel cap or manual will say minimum

I would just pump whatever meets the minimum.
Most modern cars in SG will run with 91 octane fuel onwards, but how well and how EFFICENT it runs is another matter altogether.

Yes 91 octane is enough to prevent the engine from knocking, but that's becos anti-knock sensors in the engine has instructed the ECU toretard (or detune the engine) to the extreme end of its operating spectrum. In a lab env, 91 octane will indeed be sufficient for daily usage.

In real world driving env however, things are not so clear cut. You see if your 92 octane is enough when you Forte is loaded with passengers, and driving in super hot climate like these few weeks. Don't be surprised to hear minor knocks from the engine under hard acceleration. And don't expect any decent fuel economy with 92 octane for the engine needs to burn more fuel to preventknocking and pre-detonation.

The major difference between the grades, in addition to octane numbers, are the additives (or the lack of it) from various manufacturers. 98 octane will obviously receive the best cocktail portion the oil company can offer. This is why most of us reported marked improvement in drivability when we used 98 octane vs 95 or 92. 95 will get lesser/different additives mix and 92, probably borderline mix.

Between 95 and 98 the octane doesn't play such important role in overall engine operating efficiency, it is theadditives that's running the show. But downgrade all the way to 92, efficiency will suffer liao.

The latest batches of Altis Elegance comes with VSC/traction control. The switch is located on the dash to the right of the steering wheel

But knowing BM, no matter how advanced Toyota progress with the Corolla platform, we will always get an empty shell so that they can have max profits.

Eg, the aircon compressor is located fitted to keep the OMV down. Yes they used factory original parts throughout, but seriously, what's the big idea to remove the engine on every brand new car just to install the compressor and its parts?

And the climate control system have no heater function. so its not a real climate control. No dual zone control also.

Even the foglamps is locally fitted with a inconveniently located push button in front of the gearshift instead of a ring switch as we would expect. No foglamp indicator in the instrument cluster for the Altis 1.6 is a base model in Thailand and the car doesn't come with foglamps so Toyota used a slightly different instrument cluster.
Last time when I was driving a Hyundai... I thought using 92 will save me money as it's cheaper.. But ended up 95 give slightly better FC because car feels easier on the go so I dun have to press more... N 95 also less vibrations n acceleration slightly smoother.
Upgrade from 92 to 98 and you will wonder if you suddenly got a new more powerful engine under the hood LOL

probably next pump try 98... but as for 92, so far no difference from 95... :)

pretty much I opt to just pump whatever is manufacturer recommended minimum; it's been proven by a lot of independents that a high octane fuel is just extra money for little benefit, but a fuel with an insufficient octane rating can damage your engine even if it doesn't affect performance.

If it's down to additives, I do have access to a mixture I trust a lot

and somehow the car's OMV is still sort of high... with their margin ~$8k?

The Kia K3 hill-start assist is awesome. I only got to know how it works recently
