KIA K3 Owners check-in! part 29

  • 25 January 2016 - 04:32 PM
    Kwoni

Went for test drive yesterday and was impressed by the feel of the drive and the level of comfort of K3...Its definitely more worth the bucks than any other Japanese makes... Was thinking if we should commit the SX model on the dotted lines now or wait till next bid...whether by any chance the price may drop...

What are the things we can usually bargain for from the SE? My wishlist (if I decide on this car) is as such:

Eurostyle (Will the steering control work for Bluetooth handsfree if I dun have eurostyle?)

    Rikecool

K3 Sunshade (saw those magnetic ones in showroom very fitting and looks good)

    3A Floor Mats

What else can we ask for besides these? Most probably transfer my current Blackvue over so no need Thinkware Dashcam.

    Advise pls?

Do not require eurostyle for Bluetooth phone call..

    I think...
    Sunshade must have.
Rikecool if I get to choose again, maybe do it outside. Not really good in keeping the heat out when compared with my previous ride.

It's not really a dealbreaker IMO... not much use for headlights in SG as the roads are all very bright.

after living with LED headlights coming from halogens, I find there is a real appreciable difference... and it also makes license plates more visible on car cam.

And the other thing about halogen is lifespan... how many cars I see driving around with dead headlamps.... so many of the i40 taxis driving around with one or both bulbs dead

    Hi guys,

Need your help and advice. My car is not able to start and I believe it is battery flat.

Should I go back to Kia service center to check the battery and even change the battery? Or i can just do it at any workshop?

I suppose if its still under warranty, faster tell your SE or the kia svc hotline. Safer than sorry though pay abit more.

How long have you had your k3 for? how come batt so fast die?

well-known workshops around ubi/kaki bukit (such as johnson stickers, wrapstyle) providing decals/car wrap services etcwill be able to do it for you..

if u really want to have a completely differentfeel from other k3, i think u can go for the roadruns grille u have posted earlier, or opt for other grilles... there r quite a number of aftermarket grilles available.. just remember don't buy from china market because their k3 grillesdo not fitk3 built in Korea..

I have my car 1 years 3months already. Car battery warranty is 1 year only. I also wonder why my car battery so fast died, but I have read other forum where mentioned this is common issue for Kia k3.

I think I better call the service center and check first.

the mileage might improve after the first servicing and after you have change to synthetic oil. But the mileage largely depend on your drive style.

Some ppl say that new cars with many modern electronics and technology results in heavier battery use and hence shorter life span.

One recommendation heard was that do not use those car vacuum cleaners on battery when engine is off. That supposedly eats up your car battery life quickly

I have owned the K3 for the past 4 mths or so and quite disappointed with the F.C. The recent worse one I achieve is 9.2km/l which is very bad consider I never rev my engine beyond 3k rpm. Usually lingering around 10+. at best 11+. Meter always shows around 10+ l per 100km. My driving style is 50% highway and 50% city. Reason being I find highway travelling tend to get more rock chips consider to city driving as the speed is lower. So gave up travelling highway when going home.

Overall does not bother me that much as I still pump up every 2 weeks so no difference but find that it lose in F.C to my previous 10 yr old Altis. Considering I drive that more faster.

Is that a must to replace at KIA to stay in the warranty? if not, i'll suggest to use Amaron, it's a long lasting batt, the previous lasted for 2 yrs and 9 mths and still going, i replaced it when i hear it's a bit of weakness when cranking, dont want it to die on me in the morning

After change the stock tyres to GR-100, FC improved from 8.5L/100km to average 7.6L/100km, the original tyres had too much traction on the road and hence, go for GR-100 that had lower rolling resistance. Other than that, no way to improve the FC in my K3.

But another concern that with my previous experience tend to make the plastic lens of the headlight has many crack lines due to intense heat.. Originally halogen still a bit yellowish to me.

You mean they knows if it's HID origin ones registered nos key in? The earlier batches having HID origin, they may be confused? If warranty voided, it should limited to the head lights, dont tell me void everything ba

I think if you can get a hold of the original KIA Cerato xenon modules, it might be legally compatible, as long as the levelling system can be used properly. Otherwise it is officially illegal to aftermarket mod to HID for a car that does not come with it. At the same time, the Cerato's xenon and halogen headlamps design look identical - they are both using projectors - so it's sort of unlikely that somebody will notice unless they don't level and keep blinding people.

Or, if they are like me, might notice how the front lights are "white" but the rear lights might be still bulbs.... haha.

It is likely they are able to track HID spec via chassis no.s and LTA does batch inspection and certifications as well.

If you do aftermarket installation of HID without original KIA module instead of bringing original Cerato HID modules to C&C, there is a high chance they will void your warranty for the headlamps and possibly the entire electrical system. Some dealers can bla bla this, bla bla that, because it is not original, it may affect electrical system, etc., even car cam they can accuse of this type of thing.

You will be surprised that driving faster can actually reduce FC. I don't drive a K3 but I used to get 10-11km/L while driving slow - accelerate slowly from traffic light, revving around 2k only. One day it just clicked, why am I so stupid to drive so slowly? Then might as well I buy a 1L car and save on cost + road tax + insurance. Now minimum 2.5k off from traffic light, FC surprisingly improved to 11-12km/L.

I believe there is actually a sweet spot for accelerating that will actually improve FC instead of decrease FC. Too low revs actually waste more fuel as you spend more time at low speeds and that uses more fuel. Now I can get up to 60 in a few seconds and start cruising, instant FC meter shows around 15-20km/L when maintaining 60kmh. But during a slow acceleration, instant FC meter is around 6-10km/L for a longer time.

The most efficient speed to cruise for best FC is generally 90-100kmh for most cars.

Now I remember this is how I learned how to drive like a 'Baby' in the back seat.

If the baby sleep while ur driving means [thumbsup]

Avoid aggressive driving. "Jack-rabbit" starts and hard braking can increase fuel consumption by as much as 40%.

Drive steadily at posted speed limits. You can improve your gas mileage 10 - 15% by driving at 55mph

    Avoid idling your vehicle

Make sure your tires are properly inflated to prevent increased rolling resistance.
Under-inflated tires can cause fuel consumption to increase by as much as 6%.

Choose the octane fuel which best suits your car. Premium, high-octane fuels aren't necessarily the best choice for your car; higher price doesn't guarantee better performance.

Service your vehicle regularly, according to the manufacturer's instructions. A poorly tuned engine can use up to 50% more fuel and produces up to 50% more emissions than one that is running properly.

These are the main points further reading pls refer to

    Happy driving everyone

On your first day, did you sit idling inside the car, example while SE explain to you all the car functions, etc.? Did you reset trip computer before bringing car home?

Idling will kill your km/l or l/100km figure for sure, and for that matter you don't know how much fuel has been burnt by the car before it actually comes into your hands.

    As for second question:

The first notch is your parking lights, or side lights. Nowadays, they overlap with daytime running lights and your daytime running lights act as your side lights, but usually in sidelights it is dimmer because it's meant for night time. 1st position/sidelights will also activate your tail lights, whereas 0 notch is DRL only.

Then your 2nd position is your actual headlamps on, where the main projector will cast light forward. Please don't drive at night without your main projectors.

I guess you are right. On the day of collection, we spent quite some time in the car, newbie orientation. :)

Today, the FC is 9.1 l/100km.

So far, the new ride is superb. [thumbsup]

Oh ya, yesterday I forgot to press the brake pedal first, and instead press the engine start/stop push button directly. The car went into ACC mode. (Accessory). Car couldn't move at all. I forgot exactly how I manage to get it started properly again. [:p]

Engine will not start except when brakes (or clutch in manual) are being held. This is common to all push-button start in makes today. Most if not all will only go in to accessory mode if brakes are not being held, in which case you can simply hit the button with the brakes being held to start the engine.

If FC is your top priority, should have looked at Attrage, Jazz or M3.
K3 is not known for FC. If FC bothers u so much, u should look elsewhere.
If you compare instant FC while maintaining 60kmh, accent manual transmission instant FC can be as low as 2.5l/100km.

F.C is fine by me as I pump up every 2 weeks still as I seldom used the car. I attracted mainly because of its value for money, good looks and the overall package C&C offered me compared to the XV which I shortlisted. Same OMV but expensive by $6 to 7k mainly because I going for the STI package. Maybe should buy that as I never driven a tall vehicle.

Anyway I got the sports model with the bodykit which is not available now. Just checking with fellow K3 drivers who owned this version whether can fix mud guard with the bodykit on? As I hate hearing rock/gravel hitting my car until make me sianz.. Ha.

The original k3 mudguard wont fit as the car has become wider due to the kit. If you can find a anothed guard with screw hole locations that fit it will work. But a trial and error process. Best to try and fit at a workshop

I'm using Philips White Vision on my K3. Whiter and brighter than stock with more throw. Diamond Vision is more white but lousy when in rain.

Osram Night Breaker bulbs lifespan are short. Read review spoil less than a year. Do avoid this bulb. Philips bulbs are better.

Actually how long bulbs last also affected by how the workshop handled your bulbs. If any bare hands or fingers touched the glass surface and left oil residue, the bulb will spoil earlier.

The passenger front air bag ON indicator illuminates for about 60 seconds after car ignition switch is turned on. However, according to manual, it mentioned only 4 seconds. Is this normal?

    Can K3 install this?

    (RS Chip)

    Is it really useful?

    Will void Warranty?

Whether it really helps is still unclear, but chip tuning piggybacks are usually compatible with almost any car, provided they are mapped appropriately.

Will it void your warranty? The answer is likely yes, if they find out.

K3 is NA engine, so don't bother tuning it.. somemore this chip is not cheap lo.. selling around 670 in sg.. the generation two of this chip was released recently.. so probably cheaper now..

hi all, have my ride close to 0.5 year..enjoyed it pretty much .. but i was just curious after reading the FC in this thread.. generally with 40 % highway and 60% urban.. is a FC of 9.2L/100KM (10.8KM/L) considered normal? Or is there something to be done to improve the FC? i read previously somewhere that after 10K servicing will improve the FC to ~13KM/L.. just checking.

For a 40 60 ratio fc will def take a hit.

I did see a fc improvement after 10k svc. Think the engine flush and new oil was effective.

FC more dependent on your driving style. Also, can consider revving higher when accelerating as it may help to improve FC slightly. Reason is cos if you rev too low it takes a longer time to upshift, and while in lower gears FC is usually higher. There is a sweet spot where the tradeoff between rev and FC is "optimised", may have to trial and error. For me I found that now even when revving up to 2.5k rpm, my FC has improved slightly by 0.5km/L, not to mention the drive is a lot more fun.

Other things I read online include using lighter oil eg 5W30 instead of the standard 5W40. I'm eager to try it out but I have free servicing for a year so waiting for that to finish before I can try 5W30.

    RSChip.jpg

Mixed reviews on the RSChip on K3. Some say slightly more responsive, some say no difference, and refunded. RSChip can get $4xx in the market, to make way for the newer ver 2 which utilises OBD. RSChip requires splicing of wire, thus warranty might be an issue, while RSChip 2 which uses OBD, just plug & play. Just unplug before sending yr car back to CnC if you're worried.
Anyway there are other options for such PnP chips eg: TM Works DME, Proracing etc. Personally, quite satisfied with the latter option, with EPS charger added. K3 tends to upshift faster especially on the low gears, less "choked" feeling and more noticeable powerwhen rev abv 2.8k rpm. But don't expect your K3 to turn into a 2.0ltreTCmonster [drivingcar]
