and heavier tyres are not necessarily more stable...

SOHC uses a single overhead cam to control both exhaust n intake and the same time... so it's pretty much fixed to operate most efficient at only a certain rpm..
unless with variable valve technology like vtec or vti, the timing can be changed, but the intake n exhaust ratio remains the same.....
