Come to a complete stop on a slope.

Let go on your brakes, you will see that your Forte wont roll backwards

The hill start assist will disengaged itself the moment you step on the gas.

The most impt point to note that you MUST step on the brakes to come to a complete stop. Rolling to a stop isNOT counted and the system wont be engaged.

I am looking at k3 as my next car.. Just curious, where do you get the facts or derive that k3 safety is better than mazda 3 and altis? Thanks.

I guess 7hm has listed the comparisons.

Personally, as a family man. 6 airbags is definitely a must. Safety vs cost wise, for K3 I do not have to top-up more.. 1price for every features u ever need as a driver, couldn't ask for more =D

Btw anybody interested to do PPS. 3cars for the price of 2 ($800 for 3cars) 1 of the advertisers in detailing section. PM if interested to do tog =>

pretty much I opt to just pump whatever is manufacturer recommended minimum; it's been proven by a lot of independents that a high octane fuel is just extra money for little benefit, but a fuel with an insufficient octane rating can damage your engine even if it doesn't affect performance.

If it's down to additives, I do have access to a mixture I trust a lot [thumbsup]

and somehow the car's OMV is still sort of high... with their margin ~$8k?

But I believe the min recc is also after taking into account the ignition timing retard.

K cars adopt a different business model. Which is a good move if market penetration is their priority.

    Yes..

    Personally 2c worth

Looks: M3 wins. >> K3 Overall better den Altis (prefer the ass, but front cmi) 3.88/5

Room Space: K3~ = Altis maybe rear passenger slightly bigger & no hump)>>M3 jitao small... 4/5

    Interior: M3 = Conti style,tasteful styling, K3 decent, Altis CMI3.5/5

Price: K3 wins hand down... Altis & M3 smell smoke 5/5

Features: K3 wins hand down... Altis & M3 smell smoke 5/5

    Safety: K3 >> M3/Altis(given same price)4.5/5

+ Good Service (the best among all other AD I went) + Good Discount5/5

Sign on paper... No questions asked [laugh]

One negative , if I use my Sportage (current model) as a yardstick , could be the stocking/availability of parts. I had to wait between 4-6 weeks for some parts to arrive, for eg the side mirror motor (6 weeks and that too with lots of chasing). They do not even keep a single piece in stock for a current model. I ended up having a long email exchange on this issue with Kia. I believe I could have got the parts faster if I had gone directly to local Kia spare parts stockist ,Min Ghee, but I could not as it was under warranty.

Maybe with the K3 being their most popular model, this might not be an issue.

    Hi all!

Newbie here. Am shopping around to replace my dad's Mitsubishi Lancer EX 2007 model and among the cars we have looked at, the K3 comes to mind.

Would appreciate your fellow input and comments on Lancer 2015 vs Kia K3 2015 vs Toyota Altis 2015.

These are the 3 cars that my family have zoomed in on.

To be honest, the initial plan is to just get the newer Lancer, but now with other choices available at the same price range, not so concrete.

    Thanks all!

Among the 3, personally prefer K3 (which i test drive last week). Altis is like 15-20% more in terms of price. K3 only sightly more ex than lancer but looks better and appear to have more features. just my view.

I have seen from previous posts the comparisons between K3, Mazda 3 and Altis, but im curious what is people's opinion of the K3 stack up against the Lancer 2015? Both are now 1.6L, with the Lancer 2015 boasting more horsepower and bigger wheelbase.

Specwise, the K3 has more power compared to Lancer, but its heavier weight and shorter frame seems off putting.

Appreciate input on the 3 cars based on the following:

    Looks:

    Room Space:

    0-100km/h (pickup):

    Interior:

    Torque:

    Features:

    Safety:

    Aiyoh... Let me help you..

Looks: you have to decide since this is subjective to personal preference.

Room Space: you can seat in the car while test driving.

0-100km/h (pickup): you can feel it personally when test driving..

Interior: this again is subjective .. Which you like?

Torque: test drive will tell, no point looking at spec.

Features: this one definitely k3. Lancer is outdated liao..

Safety: cannot ask you test this but if refer to those safety test, k3 better..

Trade in (AD):different car will have diff value to different ad.. You have to ask personally.

    Hehehe...

Looks wise: Only you can judge.. If you're an evo fan, U probably side EX... but think again.. How old is EX? 2008 since now only facelift?

    Room Space: Comparable

0-100km/hr: I never believe in test specs anymore. Only trust Butt feel...The EX auto lag is damn bad...Seems to match on paper 13.2sec...

Torque: K3 juz seems more eager to drive

    Features: EX is an antique...

Safety: NCAP rating.. K3 better...and also EX STILL using rear drum brakes?? Seriously ....My'08 5G City already on 4x Ventilated disc stock

Trade in: I think C&C uses same Republic Auto dealer(somebody verify this?) so no diff?

Personally, if I'm comparing both cars, I will still choose K3, nodoubt I've always been an Evo fan [smash]

The only big difference is the pricing. Lancer is S$96,999(after all the discounts) and Kia is S$108,999. Other than this, Kia is the prefer car If I have to choose.

Whether you have a fondness for your existing Lancer or not, I strongly advise you to completely forget about and write off the "2015" Lancer EX. It is almost exactly the same car as it was years ago.

Between those three I would choose the KIA Forte K3 for sure. Best value and equipment without having poor performance and economy.

    Fully agreed.

Why spend so much $$ on a car that has been ard since 2007? Its not that the Lancer was as good as the FD Civic that its much cherished till this day. Mitsubishi may not be around much longer if they continue to stay staid in their R&D

The only good thing about the Lancer is that you can Proton parts in Bolehland and save abit. Proton Inspira remember? Even the CVT can be purchased from Proton in addition to every body parts.

But other than that, the Lancer is a big no no

forgot if i asked this before.

anyone installed mudguards onto your Forte K3?

I think is quite practical to prevent additional dirt on the car body when travelling on dirty/wet roads, especially when my k3 is white.

Wonder if it detracts from the looks of the vehicle. what's your opinion on this?

they seem to come as stock in some countries like the UAE

mudguards/mudflaps are usually discreet. Unless you mean the big black rear lip in your photo.

imo mudguards/mudflaps I will install, doesn't seem to detract from the car's looks here. My car atm also got some hard mudguards.

In fact i'm surprised mudflaps/mudguard not standard issue item? When I was smaller I always thought every car in the world had mudflaps/mudguards haha

If it's cheap to install I think you should, esp with your white body. Just make sure they are black/dark gray colors and they will never "detract" from your car's appearance.

the only drawback of these mud guards is that they wont work with the car with sports kit skirting on.

i bought black. hope it is easy to install diy.

Does anyone know how to screen downloaded videos onto the Eurostyle HU?
I downloaded a couple of baby songs wanting to play them for my kid.
Wasn't successful as it displayed a "Enjoy while driving" message when the car is moving.
Only after the gear is engaged to P then the video comes on.

I know it's a safety feature but does anyone knows how to turn off this setting? Thanks!

I think usually for this kind of thing you need to sign an agreement at dealer for them to disable the safety feature. Try asking them

Can try Blackvue. Its abit pricy, but seems like a quality product. They got some power pack like product to stop the camera draining battery from your car if you enable parking mode record.

Is true... well, sort of. There is a run-in period of the first 1,500km where they recommend not redlining the engine. Typical of all cars.

i found its a bit confusing while you commented on the so so look but prefer for 2.0L / 1.6 turbo version... ~_~
At current market, K3 has advantage in term of price / feature and look (try compare fm side view if old and new forte similar) and thats why people think its great. Test drove it and its good.

i do love defender, but definitely not soul..no offend :)

Let me be the unbiased reviewer since I am driving hyundai accent manual transmission.

Recently overtook one k3 on the road. The driver seemed to have debagded his car. From the back, I was like wow this continental car looked nice. Even more so from the side, till I saw the honey comb shape grill in front that I realised it's a K3.

To me, I liked the rear and the side view but not the front view.

100% agree.... the honey comb grill is not my favourite type.... slowly grows on you but not to the point i can say i like it. I find the design acceptable keke.....

waiting for a nice 3rd party replacement grill. The ones that come with the china model looks nicer.... but unfortunately does not fit on our version that comes from Korea.

hmmmmm I have received the mudflaps. When I look at the car, I wonder how am i going to remove the screws from the body to install the flaps. the tires are so near to the panels.

For the front wheel maybe more space can be made by turing the tires one way or the other. Rear wheels how ah hmmmm....

This comes as a real concern from the review apart from the servicing centre of CC

Fuel economy. When i first the got the car, i could get 7.9l/100km very easily. I drive the same route every day and after 2 years, I have to be really really light footed to get 8.4liters/100km. If i drive like previously, i would probably get 9/100km... Almost like the current new SUVs.

Which service centre? Can always go outside own workshop to do svc after the free servicing period , and it's cheaper any way.

Then warranty void lah. Else they give you unlimited mileage 5 years warranty and 10 years engine warranty for what?
Review after driving for 2 years from sgcarmart.
    Review
I'm the 1st batch of K3 drivers and figured I'll give an update since sgcarmart doesn't allow to update prev posts. In general, the car is good and many of what the posters have said here are valid. So I'll just give the negative parts of the car.

    1. The service at C&C is the worst in the industry. They upsell you stuff and even if you take the service package, be prepared to keep paying for all sorts of crap. Eg. Air filters costs 2-3x more than 3rd party workshops. Once they returned my car with brown paint on my seat. The 2nd time i sent my car in, my aircon screwed up and has always had an uneven flow problems... And they have never been able to fix it after that. They just want to frustrate you to the point that you live with the issues. They take about 3-6 weeks to import parts from Korea. Eg. My window motor spoilt and aircon problems (still not fixed). They tell you come back again and you waste another half day.

    2. They key issue is the the C&C group is owned by Jardine Group, which is indonesian and they are facing massive problems back home. So they will rip us off to subsidise their problems back home.

    3. Fuel economy. When i first the got the car, i could get 7.9l/100km very easily. I drive the same route every day and after 2 years, I have to be really really light footed to get 8.4liters/100km. If i drive like previously, i would probably get 9/100km... Almost like the current new SUVs.
    What I like
Most of what the other many reviewers have posted.
    What I do not like
    1. Cycle and carriage service. It is VERY BAD. This is very real because you must stick with them for 5 years... and they basically rip you off for 5 years.

    2. relatively fast decline in fuel economy even though i service regularly.

Agree, "warranty" is not a peace of mind for the consumer. It is a scheme to force u to pay extra for servicing at their centres. Otherwise, threaten to void warranty.
Similarly, when i collected my car last yr, there was a small tear in the seat leather. First servicing, they say parts not in yet. After collecting car from servicing, realised got scratches on my rims. They denied its their workshop..bla bla. Until finally relented and ask me come back n change. Second servicing they replaced the leather seat n scratched rim. Upon collection of car, found out the other seat had a small tear. Had to go back again to rectify. Engine oil filter didnt install properly, had leaking oil and i had to return again the next day to ask them to sort it out. All these while, not a single gesture of goodwill was given nor apology. A while later, a letter was sent to me saying need to replace headlight assembly due to it not having a levelling function. Went to replace as requested, takes a whole day just to change the headlight assembly. Came back, realised left side headlight and right side headlight shines at different levels from each other..so wtf right. Then, white HID headlamps became yellowish after replacement. So the daytime running lights, headlights, and fog lamp are all different shades of white to yellow. Gave up and didnt bother going back to rectify, didnt want to wait another whole day for this. As long as got light can liao. Want to buy car from them, be prepared for frustration and lotsa time for excuses and rectifications.

generally no problems in the last 4 years when servicing at C&C for my first Forte. Now onto my second, i do have a problem with my front sensor. Will send it for checking.

Otherwise no problems with my 10k km - no charge due to 5 year package. Am on K&N air filter. Getting 7.5l/km at the moment after driving 400km on this tank (about 610 km on a tank)

I am not fussy with my car hence cannot tell whether my headlights are both level, or aircon blowing the same.

Mine is a forte which I have been driving for 5.5 years. Serviced at C&C for first 4 years and decided to take it out to the "cheaper" workshops. But overall, the 4 years I've service at Pandan Garden Branch, service is not bad. Shared workshop for both Mitsubishi and KIA. Have always been welcomed there with the customer service folks.

But all I can say, servicing at C&C is super expensive. Serving at workshops outside saves me a lot of cash with good workmanship too.

For a Korean make, servicing at c&c is very expensive, definitely more so than some Japanese makes like for Nissan at Tan Chong. I rather have 3 yr warranty if the car is reliable instead of being locked into a 5 yr warranty where I have no choice but to allow them to make abnormal profits to make up for the extended warranty.
The other issue with Kia is the poor stocking of parts even for new models. Can get parts faster from Min Ghee , the local authorized Kia parts stockist but which you can't during the course of the 5 yr warranty period.

based on photo he quoted me, he say will need to assess it further on site.

i had something like this. They had to pull out the dent, weld and paint back. Cost was about $350 IIRC. About 4 years back.

Maybe you check outside WS as well.

nice. which workshop did you go to? pandan loop, ubi or alexandra?

oh ya.... i noticed recently that my front left headlamp has condensation/water vapor internally sometimes on and off, this was after the car returned from the workshop. The staff told me could have gotten in during the welding process, and will dry/evaporate after a while. its been about a week and the condensation still appears.

Will this really go away? Or should i bring it back to ask them resolve? Funny thing is the condensation doesn't appear all the time. like this morning it was all clear, but yesterday evening it was there.

4 years ago i had no Kia!

i suspect they left my car in the back carpark where it was exposed to the rain while awaiting repair. Remember those 2 weeks was a period of crazy hot mornings to noon, and heavy rains in the later PM. Sun was so hot that my "baby on board" plastic sign was warped when i collected the car.

I'm getting 9.5L/ltre on my 1st tank of SPC Petrol, max rpm = 3k . 60% Expressway, 40% City.. Damn bad, not sure if its due to car still on Mineral Oil

K3 is never known to be a fuel saver. 9-10l/100km is common. Even after run in, most probably 8-9l/100km

    Very nice detailing job.

I don't really take care of the exterior except for cleaning it now.

If 9km/100km is norm for k3 then its almost same as my ex altis.

    IMO 1600cc car shouldn't use 17inch wheels.

I've seen some owners post that they have downgraded to 16inch wheels for a more comfortable ride and theoretical better fuel efficiency.

for me i think the 17inch sports rims look nicer.
