Track fault on North-South Line causes delays, slower train service for more than 3 hours

SINGAPORE - Train service on the North-South Line was affected by a track fault early Tuesday (Aug 30) morning, with commuters experiencing significant delays and slower trains due to congestion.

Normal service only resumed more than three hours later at around 9.10am.

In response to media queries, SMRT's vice-president of corporate information and communications Patrick Nathan said the delays were caused by a fault that was traced back to track-side signalling equipment near Choa Chu Kang MRT station.

Delays expected as signalling issues plague Circle Line for 4th straight day

SINGAPORE: Commuters were told to expect delays as signalling problems continued to plague the Circle Line for the fourth day in a row, according to a news release issued by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT early on Thursday (Sep 1).

Commuters should factor in extra travel time to get to their appointments on time, the release said.

"We have narrowed the problem to signal interference, causing intermittent loss of signal between trains and stations," LTA and SMRT said, adding that they are working with a team of experts from train manufacturer Alstom to resolve the issue.

LTA and SMRT to switch off mobile signals at 4 CCL stations from 7pm to 9pm
To eliminate telecommunication signals as a possible cause, we will be switching off mobile signals at four CCL stations, ie. Kent Ridge, Haw Par Villa, Pasir Panjang and Labrador Park between 7pm to 9pm this evening. This temporary suspension of mobile communication services will affect commuters only while they are travelling in the underground tunnels along these four stations and on the stations underground platforms while waiting for train arrivals. They will not be able to make mobile phone calls, SMS or access the Internet during the suspension. Commuters who need to make urgent phone calls can approach SMRT staff at the Passenger Service Centre in each station for assistance.
The mobile signals need to be turned off during these two hours as we are checking for possible interference between the telecommunications network and train signalling system during peak hours when most of the incidents have occurred. We seek commuters' understanding as we work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
