Guys, I am facing a lag of 10-12 secs on my 16GB SDHC class 4 card(KINGSTON) on my HD 720p.

I conclude this based on the opening of 40 1min files.

May I know does FAT32/NTFS file system makes a difference on the writing speed? If yes, which is better for writing speed?

    How about the file allocation?

When I use SCANDISK memory card, i am experiencing intermittent recording....

Can any experts share on this.

    Thank You

Your class 4 card is by Kingston or Sandisk?
Kingston class 4 is slower than Sandisk class 4.
Best is to use class 10 for video recording.

    Hi ZMC,

am interested in this cam. But how do I go about making a deposit?
If I have to go down, might as well install on the same day right? :P

by the way, is the 140 deg wide angle enough to cover the dashboard of an suv like the Rav4, CRV etc. ?

    Good day bro

Received my new car camera yesterday. Upon opening the box, first thing came to my mind. WOW so big one ah!!! Its abt the size of a milo can drink.

Then another disappointment as I read thru the manual and played with it. The recording is in two min long file recording and cannot be amended. It came with suction cup attachment and faceplate attachment. If you want to use double tape to secure the camera to ur windscreen, can use the faceplate attachment.

For such a big camera, it is using microSD card. I had not microSD SDHC card so I use the normal microSD card. The lag in between files are 4 secs. Have only done some on road recording this morning and the recorded video looks decent enough.

Instead of 1 min file size, can you set it to record in 10 min or longer file size??? I think 1 min file size is too much processing for the camera.

My HD720P, with normal SD its 4 sec lag between files and with SDHC Class2, its 1-2 sec lag.

That means there is a lag in between recorded file. Like :

File 1 : Time Stamp on video ended at 2min 32sec

File 2 : Time Stamp on video start at 2min 34sec

So in between file 1 and 2, two secs was not recorded.

My HD720P, with normal SD its 4 sec lag between files and with SDHC Class2, its 1-2 sec lag.

My HD720P is defaulted to 1min files. The followings are the observation I made.

Used a 16GB card: Both Kingston and Scandisk Both Class 4

When both card are newly formated, there is NO LAG.

After more than 10 files recorded...the lag will comes in 2 sec....

    more than 15 files...4 secs...

    more than 50 files.....8-10 sec....

when the memory card is full....it will starts over riding.....the over ridding new files i got 12-14 secs lag.

Both card give me more or less the same type of lag.

Usually people will only monitor this problem once, and take the 1st result as the final results.

The above experiments are quite alarming for me as i never except the lag can be so serious and its as bad as 12-15 sec per min....20% of the image not captured. angry.gif

I am currently doing more tests on the file allocations, files systems on the SD Card, having said that...i will test it on different classes of Memory card as well.

That means there is a lag in between recorded file. Like :

File 1 : Time Stamp on video ended at 2min 32sec----------off igntion with no power supplied

File 2 : Time Stamp on video start at 2min 34sec...............on ignition to drive off

So in between file 1 and 2, two secs was not recorded.

Or you meant a lost of recording of 1-2sec during continuous operation of ICVR while driving??

You are right....that was LOST during continuous recording while driving. Those recordings are stored in multiple 1 mins files.

e.g if your journey is 30mins....you will expect to have 30 1 mins files

That's why I feel that the setting should be set to 5 or 10min intervals, as 1 min intervals are too short and 30 min or longer means the filesize is way too huge to manipulate. Losing 1 to 2 secs for each 5/10 mins is acceptable, in my humble opinion. Even if suay, and accident happened at the 1 sec/2sec gap during recording - the before and after recording will still show the cause and effect of the accident.
Anyway, each person will have his own preference. I think it is difficult to find the perfect solution - Adrian is still our best test pilot, and he is still searching for The One.

I dont think this car camera can be compared to to F900LHD at all.

If you want a fuss free car camera wif HD recording, this one from dealextreme fits the bill. Its slightly less than S$110 after currency conversion.

Lets see what this camera is lacking compare to F900

    1) Full HD recording
    2) File size selection
    3) 180degree flip function
    4) White balance adjustment
    5) Exposure adjustment
    6) Contrast adjustment
    7) Removable battery option
    8) Swivel lcd screen
    9) HDMI output port

I bought this camera cos I tot it was small size like a size D battery but it turned out to be the size of a milo can. laugh.gif

Cam mounted on your windscreen , battery pack reads your battery voltage when engine is off , so it wont discharge your battery till flat . You will not need to worry about not being able to start your car with your camera on while you are asleep.

Bro ZMC, the reason why i ask about the solar film is not only becoz im afraid it wld interfere with the camera, I am as worried abt the camera spoiling the solar film, so now:

Is the camera mounted over the solar film and if so, will it "tear off" the solar film? And you mentioned you could "do it" for $20, what exactly that is?

Depends where you park , some peole park indoors , some people forever under the sun . Different films you use , determine how these product will react .
Most people face problems with suction cap models more then models with 3m tapes . So you might want to look into that area as well .

Lowest price Car Black Box with GPS Tracking & G-Sensor(Made in Korea) in the market now!!! New Replacement model for the highly popular DR-1000!! Prices are close to wholesale price.

    1) Mass Buy Price - Super Low Price(12 mths manufacturers warranty) - Pay for S&H( Shipping & Handling cost) to send back for repair.

    2) Promo Price - Discounted Price (6 mths limited local warranty and 6 mths of manufacturers warranty) - full replacement of set within 6 mths if faulty(if there is existing stock, if not we will send back for repair and no extra charge on you) and from 7 to 12 mths, just pay S&H cost and we will help you send back for repair.

Warranty does not cover owner's negligence, accidental damage, misuse, normal wear & tear.

Advantage of Mass Buy price is that you will get the cheapest wholesale price. Disadvantage is that we will not be liable for any faulty sets. You will need to send back the faulty sets to us and pay a S&H charge and we will help you send the set back to Korea for repair or exchange.

Advantage of Promo price is that you will get 6 mths of limited local warranty. If your set is faulty within 6 mths, we will exchange for you if we have the stocks or help you send back for repair(all charges will be borne by us). Disadvantage is that the price is slightly higher than Mass Buy price.

Please PM or sms me at 96952338 and ask me for pricing. Just indicate which price plan you are interested, Mass Buy or Promo price for DR-3000. For credit card payment, you can pay us by Paypal but all Paypal fees will be borne by you. Thanks.

I had bought the DVR from here http://www.mycarforu...mp;product=6695 , Been using for almost 5 months. Everything working fine. Picture quality is good. Last week just transfer the DVR to my new car without any problem. It's is using sucking cap but different from other. The sution cap abit like the lizard skin anti-slip mat which made the suction more stronger and heat resistant. So far never drop before. You can consider this also. Value for money.

That will depend what lens the manufacturer use for the product . Since there is so many demo clips around you can look around before deciding for one .

here's a clip of our CAIDROX CD3000 for your reference as well .

The problem with most camera that come with 2 Channel is that you do not get a mirror image , which is needed to use as a reverse , meaning on your screen , you see LEFT is RIGHT , and RIGHT is LEFT . For it to be able to used as a reverse camera, mirror image by the camera must be possible for you to see LEFT is LEFT , RIGHT is RIGHT .

For the Caidrox CD3000 , its definitely possible , you just need to specify to us before hand. Additional charges may apply depending on the camera that you choose.

As mentioned, file size is 2min long and cannot be amended. It is fixed. It takes up abt 170-180mb per 2min file. Yes, it has an auto-overwrite when full.

It is basically a fuss free in-car camera. Nothing much for u to adjust, only select between VGA or HD recording. All other parameters, cannot be adjusted. It is good in a way, pretty much idiot proof. U cant get any other HD car camera for S$110 than this!!!

As I mentioned before, get a car camera that suits ur needs. Dont need to be Full HD but at least a HD recording capable. I am speaking from experience.

Any car camera can be wired up at surveillance car camera. If u dont know how to do it, just get a car accessories shop to do it like mine. Mine is wired directly from car battery -> fuse box -> switch -> car camera. It is turned on 24/7 and would take three days to drain the car battery so just make sure to drive ur car for every alternate days. Otherwise just switch off the car camera to prevent any drain of car battery.

Whole thing done cost me only S$25 by a car workshop. It turns any car camera to 24/7 surveillance camera.

Wow, 170-180mb per 2-min sounds like a lot!! That means 1GB can only store about 5-6 mins of video.

What video format does it use?

Seriously, does VGA vs HD make significant difference in terms of quality and file size?

Ok, I fail my math, should be around 11min/GB.

But it is still pretty short (compared to about 1hr/GB for VGA), I guess that's the trade-off for better video quality. The question is whether the improvement is significant enough to justify the much higher memory consumption, personally I see only marginal improvement.

Does it have the lag issue (2-4 sec gap between files) like what other forummers described here earlier?

    Err.......lets compare

VCD - one disk is abt 600mb, movie abt 60mins

DVD - one disk is 4gb, movie abt 2hrs

BlueRay - one disk is 25gb, movie abt 2hrs

Recording in HD is somewhere in between DVD and BlueRay resolution, so the file size is correct.

Like I mention before, VGA recording gives u a distance of 1 to 1.5 car length to view the license plate of the front car. HD recording gives u a distance of 2 to 2.5 car length.

When an accident/incident occur, you wished u had the best recorded image you had captured. This camera can accept up to 32gb SDHC card. If you feel u need longer video capture, just get the highest possible SD card. And 32gb SD card will give u abt 320mins of HD video. There is nothing wrong with the camera, just get the appropriate size of SD card to suit urself.

For better car cameras, u can adjust the FPS to lengthen the recording time too.

Hai...........Now I understand why some forummers advise me to just keep quiet in here.

Hi bro Adrianli, didn't mean to bother you as you can see I didn't direct the last question at you. Thanks for your helpful reply anyway.

For discussion sake, I am of the personal view that HD does not provide significant quality improvement to justify the 5x increase in file size, which drastically reduces the recording capacity.

Moreover, you need to capture number plate only in the case of hit and run, which I agree HD can offer a better chance. Otherwise, capturing the scenario of the accident for the purpose of proving who is at fault should suffice.

But then again, who in the right mind would run away if being hit from behind?

I've seen some VGA cameras with decent video quality (and more features) and might be going for one of those.

Have to activate??? I tot its automatic. I did not activate anything, just plug in and shoot and then post it up.

Let me go back and re-read the manual again. I dont remember having to activate it. By the way, it should be automatic, cos it doesnt make sense for user to activate it while driving on the road and search thru the menu to activate it.

There are only four buttons and one switch on the unit. Power, photo, video and playback button. Switch is to select VGA and HD recording. In USB mode, the switch is for selecting either use as mass storage device or webcam device.

I tot IR light cannot be seen by the naked eye??? U trying to test my knowledge???

    http://www.wisegeek....nfrared-led.htm

An infrared light-emitting diode (LED) is a type of electronic device that emits infrared light not visible to the naked eye. An infrared LED operates like a regular LED, but may use different materials to produce infrared light. This infrared light may be used for a remote control, to transfer data between devices, to provide illumination for night vision equipment, or for a variety of other purposes.

An infrared LED is, like all LEDs, a type of diode, or simple semiconductor. Diodes are designed so that electric current can only flow in one direction. As the current flows, electrons fall from one part of the diode into holes on another part. In order to fall into these holes, the electrons must shed energy in the form of photons, which produce light.

    U neber read manual.
Press and hold the video button to activate night mode.
And "moon and star" symbol will show.

Not sure abt it's effectiveness though...

I tot IR light cannot be seen by the naked eye??? U trying to test my knowledge???

Have you seen those security camera with LED around it that emit red light? only found in those higher end models with longer range of IR illumination.

if your LEDs are not red, which means they are the lower end one with shorter range.

There are two types of IR illumination - covert (invisible) and overt (visible)

Overt IR illumination (like the one above) gives longer range than standard one...

I have both types of security cameras in my office, so I can tell you that those that emit red light give better night vision performance

Yes, mine is with solar film. The reflection is sure to have it at night because of the solar film. Luckily i dont have much led in my dashboard. only have the reflection on my car charger. For the audio system etc... they will not be any reflection at all unless you have meter on the dashboard.
