Some people I know shows approval of that the scholarships given to masses of young foreign students to study here from sec 3 onwards, that it is to improve the quality of our education level & to motivate our local students.........because local students' IQ & performance aren't up to par.

Back in my day... we would have fought back... kids nowadays so ez get bullied?

This really put me in a spot.. Recently, my 8yrs old was kind of bullied by a hyper active boy... From another school, while my wife and boyboy waiting for my dotter at nursery class, that boy keep pestering my son, and at one point, pushed my son down ... Then my son started to shouted at him and wanted to punch him already but held by my wife... U See, my wife doesn't believe in fight, she scolded my boy for wanted to start a fight..

When she told me at home, on one hand I think my son could defended himself if kena bully but on the other hand, if I allow fighting at that young age could be dangerous for his growing years also... Raising kids is tough...

I think our time much easier, we punch back if kena bullied, my dad won't give a damn who started the fight first but more on who kena whack more chialat... .... Hehe...

IMO fighting is wrong. Since young I have been taught not to retaliate if I am being bullied, but we should bring it up to someone with authority like our teachers or parents depending on the situation. This helps to solve matters better.

Fighting is wrong but self defense is not... That's the fine line which we tense to play safe by choosing the walk away and tell teacher, tell authority,... But how would my son defense this country?... That's why I was struggling to have a firm thought of that incident, if my son punch him, should I blame him?.. At a young age like Primary or Secondary school, better to teach them the right thing. Not to take the law into their own hands. Or else in the future, everything also self-defence. I am sure as they age they will know the other options naturally. Defending a country is a totally different thing. That will be taught in NS. I am sure kids will not be so stupid as to think that if someone were to attack Singapore, all we got to do is complain. LOL.

back then, the ahbeng n ahseng get suspended is considered hero hor. My school discipline master's room got burned down and OHP projectors can fly down from 4th floor to the garden downstairs, you want to be bunknife kia in the school? Even the prefects see ppl smoke in toilet have to close one eye. One noob goody goody prefect went to report to teacher and kenna hoots.

But then, the ahlians back then were sibeh hots also la.�

I taught my son necessary force is required when you are bullied and I taught them some simple self-defence myself. Reporting to authority is always an option but that doesn't mean fighting is not.

In this case where the authority (teacher) is doing nothing, then I would not stop / reprimand my boy for fighting back. It is a clear-cut bully.

For blackyv's incident, my stand will be softer... both parents are around, the other boy could be trying to get my boy to play with him but using the wrong method... it may not be a case of bully. Hitting back would only be pure violence. In this incident, I would approach the authority (boy's parents).

Guess your school different from mine. Probably different era also. The worst things the bullies dare to do to those that complain is hang them from second floor and threaten to throw them down only. They won't dare to really throw the person down one. But burning rooms seems to be the trend. Lol.

I remembered once upon a time when I was in primary school (Pri 2 in fact), I was being bullied too, mainly I think because I was a very quiet boy then. Initially I took the bullying without making a fuss, even though I quite du lan. Then on one occasion, during recess, the bully tried to push my head into my food, and when not successful, tried to take my food. That's when I stood up to him and punch him in the face. He rolled over, nose bleeding......both of us hauled into Principal's office, both kenna public caning (during the 80s, they don't really care who's right or wrong), I go back home kenna more caning.

Bullying never happened to me anymore since then, and shortly after that, me and that bully became quite good friends in school. Irony!

Most important for parents to be in touch with your kids... any telltales sign of being bullied can be spotted... e.g. if he had been chatty and tells me everything... suddenly becomes quiet...

I did recently interview such a former foreign student (now a working adult) , and I'm not impressed by her abilities... she was here at 15 yo, and studied in brand name sec sch n graduated from NUS... her thinking and work methodology are structured and mechanical, and not unlike any other SG candidates we interviewed earlier... nothing out of the ordinary or superior from this china lady candidate.. in the end, we bypassed her and hired a local with more "fit" into our needs and environment..

So i dun think the assumption to give free scholarship to foreigeners to kick our local students butt to buck up is valid, bec diff individual shines differently and just bec foreigners are mugging smart they are superior to locals... not true...

Father of 5-year-old boy found dead in D'Leedon Condominium to be charged with murder on Wednesday

SINGAPORE - A five-year-old boy was found dead at a unit in D'Leedon Condominium along Leedon Heights on Tuesday (Oct 6) morning. Police have classified the case as murder and the boy's father, 42-year-old Philippe Graffart, will be charged in court on Wednesday.�

At about 5.11am, police on duty came across the injured Graffart, who is Belgian, outside Bukit Timah neighbourhood police centre. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Following preliminary inquiries, the police proceeded to a unit at Block 3 of the condominium, where Graffart's son Keryan�was found lying motionless inside the bedroom.

Keryan was subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics at about 6.17am.

The case is believed to have occurred in a unit on the 32nd storey.

At about 9am, a woman in her early 40s was seen at the foot of block looking distraught. She walked to the security guard post at the condominium entrance before she was escorted away by security officers.

A police hearse arrived at the scene at about 11am and left about 15 minutes later. At 11.20am, a Caucasian woman was seen entering the compound and approaching police officers. It is believed that they took her to the unit. She was seen making a phone call as she left the condominium in a hurry at about 11.30am. A police van was seen leaving soon after. Consular officers were seen at the condominium at about 11am.

You know what. Singapore life can be really stressful. Not physically necc but mentally and unfortunately, mental stress actually affects the body worse because it affects mental and physical health. Physical stress only stresses physically and less on mental in the sense that once you have finished your physical job, your mental stress is also gone. A mental stressed job stresses u even at home.

Anyway to those who know me from the gathering at marina club, I have just resigned from my current job to take a lower post in another hospital.

Life is only lived once and mental stress constantly is not worth it.

Kudos to you for taking a back step as required.

I did enjoy my days as a gardener, a fruit seller, a flower packer, but honestly not much long term prospects. Slept like a pig at night due to the physical exhaustion. But no baggage, go to work with no baggage and come home with no baggage.
