Shochong or others familiar with circular polarization filters, does the lens has a definite front-facing side?

The CPL I have dropped and split into 3 parts - the frame, the inner black plastic with magnet holder, and the lens. I didn't know if there is a front-facing side for the lens or not, just place the lens back into the frame, then place the inner black plastic with magnet holder and super-glued it.

Probably will take another footage on the same road without CPL to compare.

    I recommend this one : http://www.dealextre...ls.dx/sku.35356

    - High resolution of WXGA 1280*720 Pixels clearly recognize the faces or car plate
    - View range: 120?wide-angle
    - Video codec: H.264
    - SD/MMC card slot, support up to 64GB
    - Built-in 500mAh rechargeable battery
    - Charged via USB, external power supply offers a non-stop recording
    - Date and time simultaneous display on Video
    - Port: Mini USB / HDMI / SD Card Slot

    It cost only US$152 w/ free shipping. US$152 x 1.4(exchange rate) = S$212

I using it as my rear view car camera. Love the LCD screen which most car camera lacks.

Er, i'm confused. Isn't the class rating standardised across all vendors? How can class 6 have a higher reading and writing speed than class 10? Would it be more accurate to say that it has the capability to reach 30mb/s in an ideal state but minimum for fragmented state, it will have at least 6mb/s?

    You are right.
There is a difference between burst transfer rate and sustained transfer rate.

Class 10 will transfer at the minimum rate of 10MB/s (class 6 at 6MB/s).
The marketed 30MB/s etc are .. well.. non-guaranteed rates, and usually u will not attain that speed. When u do, it is for a very short period of time (even if non-fragmented).

In video recording, sustained minimum transfer rate is more important.

Thanks. Good to hear that. Probably when the lens drop out, it is filled with my fingerprints. Maybe will try to clean it with a microfiber cloth later.

By the way, is there news on how the new add-on GPS looks like, mounting, and connection? The new firmware 1.00.18 has some new additional controls. Eg. GPS - can set to use km/h or mph. Also has one new additional video resolution mode.

Good catch. The time on the filename is 1833 while the time embedded in video is 1933. I do recall setting the date time during initial install and setup. However, it has gone through 1 firmware (1.00.11) upgrade without reconfiguring it.

I have just upgraded the firmware 1.00.18 yesterday when I took it out to extract the video. Let's see if I do a reconfiguration will fix the problem. After all, there are a few new settings in firmware 1.00.18.

Hmmm... I just found out my CPL isn't inline with the mark on lens... Good to finally have the english manuals. When is FineVu going to release english GUI as well as manuals on its website?

I am promoting this drive recorder to friends and family members so it will be good if they can "see" the english stuffs on manufacturer's website.

Just to share latest development after using the CR-300HD with the CPL filter.

The CPL filter that comes as optional item is not of very good quality and has its share of pros and cons.

    Pros:
    1. Filters reflections and glares effectively without causing too much distortion or loss of sharpness.
    2. Ease of install and remove (magnetic clip on).

    Cons:
    1. Night captures are too dark in most cases (even under normal open-air carpark lightings).
    2. Ease of drop off from recorder by itself (happened on 2 cars already and it's not like we speed or any abnormal maneuvers. Have video clips to prove how it drops off over time without any sign/warning).
    3. Poor build quality where the frame, the lens and the inner black plastic holder with 3 tiny magnets spilt into 3 separate parts after dropping off from the recorder itself.

For those who read my earlier posts and aware that I superglued the 3 parts back together, well it dropped off again and it's now 3 separate parts again.

I think u should set the brightness to number 2/5 with the lens filter. If u r setting to 3, it will appear grainy :] Btw the lens filter is not recommended for the night.

I think u should set the brightness to number 2/5 with the lens filter. If u r setting to 3, it will appear grainy :] Btw the lens filter is not recommended for the night.

bro, theres only 3 option for night brightness ley.
default, medium and brightest only mah. how to set to 2/5 brightness?

Because smart phone doesnt comes with motion & impact sensor for parking surveillance, and the angle is not wide enough as a car dvr.
Most importantly, it doesnt has auto loop function when your card is full. wink.gif
Will also be a hassle to start it up and record manually without the auto features of a car dvr.

    Hello bro/sis

Well, am just sharing alternative option to save $$$ nia, if you find it unsuitable, its fine, pls proceed with yr choice.

Anyway, I find in car dvr oso not that useful after all. so why spent extras when we can have an option? For most careful drivers, keeping a safety distance from the vehicle ahead, we don't really need a DVR. but after seeing the SK fatal accident footage, I decided that it might help someone who might be useful as evidence, hence came up with the idea.

Most dvr will have memory limitation too, right ?

if yr smart phone hv external microSD card slot, it gives u more hours of recording. my 32gb can record more than 4-5hrs.
more than enough, which journey take more than 2 hrs in sg? I just delete every recording coz most rides are smooth and not reason to keep in memory.

    phone rings and then?

Recording stop, if u decide to answer the phone, u may do so. usually I choose not to.
Recording resume after ans/rej. call ended

does it drain the batt too.

Yes, it does, charge up again lor, no big deal.

Those who insist to spent extras, please go ahead.

    Cheers.

to add...phone rings and then? it drain the batt too

    "Phone ring and then" ...
    Scenario 1:
Stretch out your hand to reject or ans call -> dangerous driving / get fined by TP for operating your phone during driving.

    Scenario 2:
Switch on bluetooth just to reject call with bluetooth.

    Scenario 3:
    Answer phone and no recording.

    Scenario 4:
Recording stop when phone is ringing and if sway sway accident then nothing gets recorded.

    Points to add:
For those who wants for overnight surveillance how?
Try leaving your handphone in the car, tap to car battery and leave it on for overnight surveillance.
    biggrin.gif
Even if u managed to do so, can it even last a night when your sd card is full without motion sensor & auto loop recording?

Why are many users looking for seamless recording in a dvr now nowadays?
Because they do not wish to risk having no recording at any point of time, not to mention when the recording stop when your phone rings. (Accident happens in split seconds)
You will never know when an accident occurs, too many reckless drivers out there even if u are a super safe driver.
Why do we need overnight surveillance? To record hit & run, vandalism etc.

Just my 2 cents worth. No offence.
    Cheers.

    Lets be practical,

An accident can happen at any angle, right, left, front, back. agree? If there is features such as, 360 degree recording, i would consider.

As for stationary recording, unless someone is having problems with his/her neighbours or owe ppl $$$. who would need one?

I really hope someone can convince me into getting one with a more superior features for a in car DVR.

BTW, I use a SGNote, so its actually quite easy to operate with its touch screen features and its screen size are big enough too, its toggling with your ICE.

as for smaller screen phone users, please try out first, it may be slightly more challenging due to the size, remember SAFETY F1RST

Convincing you there really isn't any need to, the choice is all yours on how you want to spend your money. All of us use car cameras for a purpose, and that is to ensure fair and clean accident claims, so as to prevent other car owners, in the event of
an accident, pinning the blame on us and doing up exorbitant claims. Personally, money well spent. biggrin.gif

Yes I'm going to convince you now with true scenario happen on me and my colleagues!!!

    1) I went on a Taiwan trip last year dec n when I'm back realized that my car bumper dented. Some kind soul put down every single details of how a lorry bang my car and left the scene. Police reported n full claim. I dun have a cam then. Imagine if no one saw the incident.... SuCk thumb lor...

    2) my friend was travelling on a straight road n a lorry swerve into his lane and his car left bumper crashed to right side of the lorry. 50/50 so LAN LAN need to pay for own damage!! Why? Cos the lorry driver says he swerve into his lane and bang onto him. No cam on his car.

    3) same scenario as the 2nd case but this time round this colleague has a cam. The footage shows clearly he is on his own path n someone move into his lane. Case won.

You can says that a car cam is just like insurance. U pray hard that you never need to use it. But if come 1 day u need to use it, you will thank god that you had it.

You can say you are a super safe driver but when you damn suay, eat toufu also can get chOked.

just like my first accident; i had two cams in my car ... but on that day, i forgot to switch on one and the other was blurred due to no maintenance.

in the end, i kenah 50/50 for my case .... but i lost my 55%NCD for the years after that = $$$ !

now i up to 3 cams on my dash and i make it a habit to on all the cams after i crank the engine.

for those who have other ideas, no offense, but i feel its what ppl call as penny wise, pound foolish.

you already spend how tens or hundred of thousands for your car .... what's another $300 for a good "insurance policy" DVR ??

Wonder if there are any cameras with features to prevent people from stealing them. It will come to a point where car cameras are so popular that thieves would probably steal them by smashing the windscreen too. Even if you got car camera also no use by that time cuz they can just take the whole cam with the memory stick in it. Probably easier for them to sell as well compared to handphones. Cannot be traced as easily for now.

Only way is to camo ur car cam to match the interior of the car or car manufacturers make it a standard equipment incorporated with the car. Not too difficult.

My sun shade tint is very dark at the top n not so dark at the bottom part. Not advisable to place the camera lens there cos the video will be very dark, at night, it will be worse.

I see.. so it's better for me to change my sun shade tint to the progressive/fade out type. My current sun shade is very long (actually longer than LTA rule but due to the large wind screen, VICOM actually close one eye). If I have to place it beneath the sun shade, it will no longer be stealthy especially when I go into Malaysia.

hi bros, anyone bought a DVR from dealextreme before? Recently encountered some reckless drivers on the road so considering to get a DVR for the 1st time.

Am thinking of buying a cheap one to try out 1st. Saw a few at dealextreme, appreciate if you can share if it's advisable to get one of these.

    1) I like this one because it comes with a remote control. Not sure if it is small enough to be mounted behind the rear view mirror though. It has 5MP camera so video quality should be acceptable? http://www.dealextre...115224?item=288

    2) This one also has a 5MP camera. The sample videos looked clear enough. Only gripe is perhaps the lack of LCD. When adjusting the camera position in the car, I guess I can connect it to my laptop and do adjustments right? http://www.dealextre...-44984?item=165

    3) This is also 5MP and cheap. But it looks bulky so not sure if can be mounted behind the rear view mirror once again. http://www.dealextre...120603?item=250

Am trying not to spend too much on a car cam. As long as the videos are clear enough and can serve its purpose. Any other recommendations?

All of them are decent car cameras. I have number 3 on ur list, its called milo can size car camera by me cos the camera is the size of a milo can. U can read abt this camera review in the early part of this thread.

Most of my China car cameras are from DX.

If ur requirement is just simple drive recording, these listed should be able to do the job. But dont expect clear night videos.

U mean in front of the rearview mirror right??? If u mount it behind, wouldnt u be blocking ur view when u look at the rear view mirror to check traffic behind or parking???

#3 comes with a mounting pad and suction cup mount. Depends on the shape n design of ur windscreen, but I find using the mounting pad makes the camera not so obvious to others. Yes, it is bulky, the size of a milo can. See earlier postings, I did post pics n videos.

Thank you. the videos are very helpful. thumbsup.gif

I mentioned "behind the rear view mirror" as in from the point of view of the driver. If from pedestrain's POV, then is in front of the mirror... smile.gif

yeah, my phone holder always drop off after few weeks 'cos I park under hot sun all the time. So perhaps a mounting pad is more suitable for me. Again thanks for very good info thumbsup.gif

But remember, this car camera is simply plug n play type. U cannot adjust any settings except for resolution, 720pHD or VGA. Recording duration is 2min per video file. Requires Class4 and above microSD card otherwise there will be video lag between video files.

If u are new to car camera and dont have much requirements, this one makes it ideal.
