Collected the car last week. I've been driving it normally and I don't see the need to really rev beyond 3k rpm since its a XT.

Just some comments/observations so far:

1) No central auto lock. My current ride has that feature and I tend to forget to lock when driving off

2) Speakers sound "hollow" although its supposed to be Harman Kardon. Lowering the bass and increasing the mid and treble seems to help a bit but still.. something is lacking in the sound quality...

3) Car accelerates seamlessly without the "pushed back into the seat" feeling of non-CVT cars.... But can easily hit 100kmh without knowing..

4) The speedo and tacho dials are small and if don't look closely, can easily exceed the legal limits

5) Suspension feels soft but maybe its setup for comfort

6) Sound insulation isn't bad for a Jap car

7) Car "shudders" when in Neutral gear. Sometimes even stationary in D, with the foot brakes, can feel some occasional vibration

8) Like the keyless entry and remote boot function :-) Useful when shopping and can unlock the boot before reaching the car. But will be nice if there is an audible sound to indicate car locking and unlocking besides the lights flashing. This can be a configurable function for those who don't want the audio indicator

9) Weather hasn't been too hot yet to know if the solar film is effective or not

10) Cannot change the consumption reading from l/100km to km/l

Agreed. Someone posted outside WScan fix the module. Worth considering

2) Speakers sound "hollow" although its supposed to be Harman Kardon. Lowering the bass and increasing the mid and treble seems to help a bit but still.. something is lacking in the sound quality...
Agreed, the high note is not there, I tend to tune down the mid range too. But coming from a very sucky system from previous ride, this one not too bad lah. Not audiophile quality but not too bad either.

3) Car accelerates seamlessly without the "pushed back into the seat" feeling of non-CVT cars.... But can easily hit 100kmh without knowing..
Switch to S mode, got slight gush in head from the torque.

4) The speedo and tacho dials are small and if don't look closely, can easily exceed the legal limits
Need to get used to. But I always drive above limit..lol

5) Suspension feels soft but maybe its setup for comfort
On the contrary, I feel it's pretty stiff, but not firm. It's occasionally bumpy yet bouncy. Funny combination.

6) Sound insulation isn't bad for a Jap car
Little wind noise in the rear, otherwise it good

7) Car "shudders" when in Neutral gear. Sometimes even stationary in D, with the foot brakes, can feel some occasional vibration
The word "shudders" is very sensitive cos it sound like GB failing. You only get it when you brake right? I always thought that feeling means the brake can bite.

Agreed, but I already lived without beeper for my last 2 cars. So no loss here.

Yup, these few days the car feels ok.

You want it to feel softer or harder?

If you want it to feel more firm, one easy way is to increase the rim size to 19". Less tyre, more metal means ride is firmer.

The reverse can be done to make the car less firm by downsizing the rims size.

Other methods will require the use of coil over or after market springs or struts. Very likely will void warranty.

Pioneer collected your car? Anything to share on your new ride? Looking around to make the original ride FXT less bumpe. Any advise?

Lousy SQ may be the problem with the HU also.

The word "shudders" is very sensitive cos it sound like GB failing. You only get it when you brake right? I always thought that feeling means the brake can bite.
### This happens after I've braked and the car is stationary. Sometimes I put it in N because the light just turned red and I know it takes a while before it change to green. So when the car is stationary, it will suddenly "shudders/vibrates/shivers" then still again, then it happens again. There is no pattern or timing to it.

I think this would be considered a negative in refinement department. My current car does this too, but it's old.
I believe it's really just engine shaking the chassis a bit. If you disconnect transmission, the shaking has to go somewhere...

For me it usually corresponds to a change in engine RPM... usually when it dips below the nominal idle. Reminds me of the feeling you get when an engine is about to stall.

Hi, does anyone know whether EyeSight tech available for local version of Subaru cars? This is a highlighted security feature in US version of subaru.
nope and nope. MotorImage is targeting lowest OMV and budget end of market. They bring in cars barren and low spec and install things like reverse sensors (camera and touchscreen HU is from factory though).

That means that somethings premium or probably OMV-increasing like Eyesight autonomous emergency braking is all cut.
I wonder if it is possible to configure the car system. For example, when locking the car, it will be good to be able to configure a chime in addition to the lights flashing. I don't think its hard to do as the car has a chime when the door is open and you try to lock it. The chime will sound to warn you.

I've seen a car review video of the US version which allows selection of the auto-light sensitivity. It seems there are other selectable options but these seems to be disabled for our SG version.

Not sure if the full set of options can be made available?

Thought I saw these options (sans light-sensitivity) in the central MFD that is controlled via the steering wheel buttons. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Anyway I will be asking for the list of items that can be change and will/will not void warranty. Maybe I will compile it and post it here or on the FB.

So have you decided what car you want?
Is the car underpower?
FXT with 240bhp & 350Nm of torque. How to be under power....

Can be done, my 07wrx was like yours but my SE add on car alarm connecting to car horn. So lock one horn, unlock two horn. Most HiFi shop can do.
Hard to say. If you only drive cars with below 5s for 0-100km/h, then FXT is a bit underpower.

Maybe he meant the premium 2.0 non turbo. From what premium owners gathered, the power is just right, not powerful but not underpowered too.
As for the XT, I'm beginning to wonder if it's a tad overkill for local roads. It's too easy to drive above speed limit without noticing.

That's a car in totally different category. You may need at least double or triple the price of FXT to get that.
For the current price with COE of ~$130k, I think the FXT straight line performance is one of the best..
BTW, how does it go through corner? I had been enjoying to enter or exiting expressway corner when no car fast with my current ride.
Hahah.. Singapore only got Category A and Category B Cars so the cars I mentioned is in the same "category" as FXT.

I am curious how it handles corners as well. Just stock how does it perform?
I saw reviews that it doesn't handle well, but if comparing with the likes of type R, Evo kinda of cars. Obviously it shouldn't match up. How about just normal
Stock sedans?

Encounter slight body roll at Changi Flyover towards city between around 80 km/hr on dry weather and tyres all scrubbed in. This is a high CG car. Hence, cannot compare with REX, EVO, Euro R, CTR and etc.
With the big piece of glass and motors on the roof, FXT will definitely roll round corners.

Maybe more fair to compare with other SUVs like x1, x3?
Maybe more fair to compare with other SUVs like x1, x3?

I believe it will be better than it japanese counterpart like Harrier, Qashqai, Rav4 with it AWD and lower central of gravity from engine set up.
But compare to as you mention, X1 or X3. How? Or Q3 & Q5?
Yah, I know price wise is not apple to apple comparison...
But yeah has anyone changed their brakes or lowered their FXT here?
Thanks to my friend who gave me a list of possible mods but I will be checking with MI which would not void warranty.
Improve braking
Economical but minor improvements
1. Stainless steel braided hose
2. Better brake pads
3. Slotted disc
Major improvements
1. Big brake kits
Handling
Minor improvements without affecting comfort
1. Strut bar
2. Undercarriage bars
3. Thicker tyres (higher fc)
Major improvements and comfort compromised
1. Suspension
2. Camber kits
Power
Intake, header, exhuast.

Do you require a separate key for that? Because in my previous car I installed a car alarm and I was given another key. Otherwise, the horn will not sound when locking or unlocking.
As for the XT, I'm beginning to wonder if it's a tad overkill for local roads. It's too easy to drive above speed limit without noticing.

For me, I don't believe too much power is an overkill :p

It's always nice to have power when you need it. Of course, there is the danger of exceeding the speed limit....
The best economical upgrade are the tyres. Getting a grippy performance tyre will lower your braking distance and improve your grip.

I will rate the following from the least amount of difference to the highest
1. BBK + Slotted disc
2. Better brake pads
3. Better tyres

I have not tried SSBH so I can't comment on that

I think basically more on the performance.

Which brand, size and price that I can replace my current new stock Bridgestone tyre to have better FC and less bouncy ?
Have any one check with SE, will MI void the car warranty if owner install a new 3rd parties car camera recorder?

The warranty booklet says that any unauthorised installation of accessories that requires wiring of the car electronics will automatically void warranty.

So it is pretty much self explanatory.

Not a forester but XV owner.

pondering the same question until i met another XV owner who did 3rd party camcorder installation

he said MI saw the camcorder and nv questioned or threatened him over the installation

my assumption is so long as the camcorder is wired to a spare 12V port under steering wheel, and avoid complicated wiring to battery or ECU, then it should not be a big problem.

MI has only 1 version, blackvue DR650 and is priced much higher than shops outside

I think you felt the pickup slow is due to turbo lag instead of CVT, normally 2.0L and above Turbo engine, turbo lag more obviously,
Before I booked XT,also tested drive XC60, LR Freelander 2, X3 etc, same the turbolag, even ifthey equipped 6AT even 8AT gear box, to overcome the turbo lag, have to use supercharged + turbocharged like the latest XC90, but price wise don't think it has big market

The XT may have a "flat spot" from 2500rpm to 3000rpm due to the lag but it's surely not considered to the extend of being"underpower".

Yes, can change color as long as the leather seats are retrofitted locally.

Go negotiate with your SE, either a top up is required or even at no cost if you can nego your way through.

Just got XT delivered late last week. Clocked 150km already and enjoying it. Huge gap up in refinement over my previous SG9 2.5T, although power is lacking. The familiar and reassuring symmetrical AWD is still there. Sound insulation is not good as I can hear every bike that passes by and tyre noise is apparent as well - any cost effective solution, please?

Can someone PM me on how I can be added to the forester/xv whatsapp group to join?

Heard good reviews about Groomers Lab - any experience with them? Thanks.

I also doubt how new 2.0XT can be power lacking than old 2.5XT?
2.0XT: 237bhp/350Nm/CVT, 7.5s Sprint
2.5XT: 230bhp/320Nm/4AT, 7.9s Sprint

More likely is because of CVT.
CVT GB always don't have those push back feeling when step hard on the accelerator.
During my test drive, only when using sport sharp mode than have the strong feeling.
However even if using i mode, if you take note of the speed. it is very fast getting into illegal speed.

The old SG Forester has better power to weight ratio, plus the conventional AT that can take immediate torque increase. Hence it feels powerful. Tuning of the chassis and suspensions also matters. Its basically more like a WRX wagon than a SUV.
SJ forester is more truthful to being a SUV, within suspension and ground clearance tuned more to offroading and countryside. They mated it will CVT to balance power and FC, but took away the fun. But management retain some of it via SI drive and manual mode.
Different philosophy.
But its noted that due to CVT it's towing capacity (not relevant in SG anyway) is reduced compared to its old models.

I agree.... its very easy to exceed the legal limits if not careful.

And I think the perception its not as fast is due to the CVT GB which does not give the car the "push-back" feeling unlike what you will get in a normal GB.

There seems to be a turbo lag between 2500 to 3000rpm as a bro mentioned. I've not exceeded 3000rpm so far so don't know what lies ahead

When I saw the torque curve, the max torque of 350Nm seems to be from 2400rpm to around 3600rpm....
How can the turbo lag at 2.5k to 3k.
At 2000rpm, torque is about 300Nm. So I will believe below 2k rpm is the turbo lag.
Let me go home tonight and get a shot of the torque curve from the catalog.

Actually you are right. I took it around again last night. The lag seem to built up from 2k onwards, however it'sstill evident at 2.5k and the boost only hit max at around 3K or more, that's when the car suddenly has that gush of power. You try in tonight to see if you get the same results.

I think the turbo lag is further made obvious by the CVT. However even if the lag, it still seem to be powerful enough to filter lanes and normal commute.

Such lags will only affect those aiming for best timings in Tracking or racing.

So at the end you still decide on the Forester XT.
Not going for the Mondeo..which definitely better equip.

eh... is Mondeo. Just being a little discreet since this is the Forester thread...
May I know typicallyhow much discount we can get from MI ontop of the pricelist?

I say my previous SG9 is more fun as its close to 400bhp. Its a sleeper wagon.
The SJ Forester is twin scroll turbo, so actually the lag should be minimum.
Yeah, I was driving in I mode, so indeed more lethargic. My friend has run in his SJ Forester and has driven like a maniac using S and S#...totally transformed- power on demand and responsive. On the NS Highway, it is the best way to test this baby.

Foran SUV, this really handles well. I took corners very confidently and she glided across beautifully, sticking like a leech.

I pity those who thinks Subaru is an inferior brand with expensive servicing. They just need to take the first step and experience one & will not look back.

not much... maybe if u take the max loan and non guaranteed COE can negotiate further, but for me the discount is only a few hundred. for guaranteed COE, u most likely will get it on the first bid if they have ur choice of color in stock.

Looks good man. I prefer the new single-color rim instead of the current silver+black rim.
Forester 2016.jpgForester 2016...Looks like a new set of rim...
Nope. These are the rims of the non-turbo premium foresters.
collected my 2.0i today. saw another bro collecting his forester while waiting for my SE.

one question to ask, since the road disc is not given by SE but road tax is already paid, is the road tax disc sending to my home directly? or need to call LTA?
Can advise does SE mentioned how many year of warrant for the solar film and lether seats?
I recall it is 5 years for solar film and 1 year for leather seats. Just would like to double confirm.
Yes leather seat 1 year. Solar film not sure lol did not ask.
Yes leather seat 1 year. Solar film not sure lol did not ask.
I have confirm with SE is 5 years. I asking this because found few bubbles and seem getting worst.
MI showroom got some STI rims choice, does MI offer upgrade/trade-in of rims?
Any idea if I were to install the dash cam from a shop, tapping the power from a wire instead of the 12v socket, will this void the warranty?
I think basically more on the performance.
But yeah has anyone changed their brakes or lowered their FXT here?
Thanks to my friend who gave me a list of possible mods but I will be checking with MI which would not void warranty.
Improve braking
Economical but minor improvements
1. Stainless steel braided hose
2. Better brake pads
3. Slotted disc
Major improvements
1. Big brake kits
Handling
Minor improvements without affecting comfort
1. Strut bar
2. Undercarriage bars
3. Thicker tyres (higher fc)
Major improvements and comfort compromised
1. Suspension
2. Camber kits
Power
Intake, header, exhuast.
Finally collected my car. Good drive. Grip around corners is good. Body roll is similar to my lancer ex.
Basically regarding the above, all are grey areas. They may not void your warranty. But if any issue arises from the mod you did that is not done by MI, they can don't warrant the damage.
I check Rims yes you can change but the size must be the same (do double check before changing).
Sadly brakes also has to be done with them. I didn't really pinpoint to the exact parts.
Anyone else have anything to share? Cause the brakes aren't sufficient for this kinda weight and power seriously.
https://www.japanpar...ts/detail/45019. Saw a previous SH model installed with the gold brembo calipers. Nice, but damn costly

Can probably try upgrading the pads first.
anyone has any suggestion how to get rid of the smell in car? i think its probably due to the locally fitted leather seats. its a bit stronger than new car should have..
Yes. Void Warranty

one for the beng and the other for the seng.

saw quite a few XT driven around by Uncles and Aunties.. I guess since they are slower when on their feet, make up for lost time with TURBO!

Park under the sun and let it bake a little while with doors open.
Easily done at any MSCP.

If you want to be on STOMP, you can also throw in a suntanning session for yourself.

All brand are the same...
Yup, and please the right people for the job. For this case, ICE shops are experienced experts in The field of wiring. If you get it properly done by an experienced installer i.e. Tap from fuse box directly as oppose to splicing wires, then it should be alright.
Not tyre shop, not vinyl wrap shop, not accessories shop. ICE shops.

Should be void warranty only for electrical parts. Engine leaks and problems should be separate. If they lump everything together then I really don't know what to say.
For XT, possible to achieve 10km/l.

I am getting 9.2l/100km on the meter on my first tank of petril.

Bro, how you did it? I only many to have 11/12 L/100KM, I still haven't rev the car because it still less than 1000KM. I always drive with I mode and 50/50 HW/city.
But I enjoy the ride very much :)

Think it depends on driving pattern and traffic conditions.
I'm getting 9.8 l/100km about 75% highway. But I don't think that fc will last long...
I guess it is my driving pattern and route.

I am usually quite light footer, 10 ~ 20% acceleration. I think I am on a 60/40 HW/City route. Mine is still on the 1st 1000km also.

Same here. I exp the same.
I believe in accelerate moderately. Get into the engine and GB sweet spot. By reaching the cruising speed fast, which always give the best FC.
Edited by Tohto, 07 September 2015 - 05:15 PM.
I never believe on over light foot to get good FC. Because your car will always stay in lower gear for longer time which is not good for FC.

Youcan switch tothe onboardinstantaneous FC meter allow you to get the most optimal driving style. It also show the throttle % so you can adjust accordingly.

This car is like a nagging wife. One minute the throttle begs you to press more to enjoy the power, next the nagging FC display keep reminding you that you are wasting fuel.

LOL
Btw has anybody here changed the rims yet? Or installed any body kit?
I did some matt black for al the chrome parts and the addiction is beginning...

Hi all Forester owners and owners to be,

Not here to dampen your mood on modifications. Do read up on the other thread:

The risk of back firing and loss of warranty with money spent is always there, in exchange of gaining more hp/torque.

If want to mod, perhaps getting a preowned car to experiment will be a better choice ?

Cheers.

Japanese cars should not have so many causes of CELs in the first place :P

It is always wise to research more before modding. Isn't that what the forums are for? In any case, dyno results can be deceiving and do not expect a modded horse to run as well as a stock horse.
yeah seems like the only LTA compliant available now is HKS hi Powered, but need 1 month to indent.. cost 2048 quoted by Fong Mui. Any bos have any better lobangs? haha
Hi all,

Understand there is a whatsapp group or chat group for Forester...can anyone enlighten me?

Cruising along expressway brings up the better mileage, anywhere between 11-12km/l. It is afterall a FullTime all wheeldrive. Drivability is good which is most important to me.
Hi all, this is my firs time posting on this forum. Am driving an XT with just over 2k kms and love the handling of the vehicle. The turbo lag is quite obvious as the full torque kicks in at 2400rpm on paper. But to really feel it the vehicle has to be reviving close to 3k rpms. In I mode the turbo does not kick in till a certain speed. Quite obvious from stand still. But in S or S# mode, the turbo kicks in faster. But just to ask fellow XT drivers that when accelerating and the turbo is spooling at 0.4 bars and above, there is a loud swooshing sound that is quite obvious from the driver's side. Is it normal that sound is just the suction from the turbo or is there a leak somewhere? Appreciate the replies.

Just a side note, from picking up the vehicle, I could feel that the vehicle is quite bumpy and on the hard side. Especially when going over humps and highway gaps. It was only recently that when putting in petrol I went to check the tyre pressures that I realise that the pressure was quite high. It was at 270+ kpa on all 4 sides. The recommended pressure was around 230. I dropped it to 240 kpa on all sides and now the bumpiness has reduced by a lot and the car is smoother over humps.
Price now 126800.
Where you get this price from?
I just check sgcartmart and it show $129,800 updated on 11 Sep.
Haha.. I also took my XT a week+ ago.

Even in i-mode, I thought it is quite perky already. I had a fiat bravo tjet and astra gtc before this. All light turbo cars but I still find XT in i-mode relatively brisk.

I hardly need to step beyond 2k to follow traffic. But I may be the odd ones out in the XT group.

I realised that the tyres will pump quite high pressure too. Have yet to adjust yet. I don't recall any type of swoosh sound even when I went to 0.9psi. Hmm.. Maybe the rest can share their experience with you.

Such issues happened to all hardcore modders. The guy just happen to choose the wrong tuners to do it.

Nice! Definitely different. In between the forester and the altis, I had a Kia, 2hondas and a Ford, all NA vehicles. First turbocharged ride and I'm enjoying it so far. :)
Must be itching to get the ride ya? Hope it arrives soon!

i guess it should be non guaranteed package, but MI should be able to deliver within 1 to 3 bids, since their guaranteed package rebate also quite low.

last time when i checked the price, SE did mention for non guaranteed package there is a further 2-3k discount.
my fuel economy (premium not XT) figures for first tank is about 12.5km/1L. morning and evening work route during peak hours (70% highway 30%urban) is about 6.8 to 7.6 L/100km based on trip computer, depending on traffic flow. short trips 100% urban ranges from 8.8 to 11.2 L/KM based on trip computer.

i find that this car is quite efficient when cruising on highway and urban 50 to 60 kmh without too many traffic lights. my driving pattern is following these driving tips shared by hiroshi masuoka.

Was researching this a little too. Was interested also in the auto dimming side mirrors (with approach lights). Understand that the rear view mirror can work independently, and it can be used to power the side dimming mirrors.
Found out that the USDM are able to install this by default as there is existing wiring harness that is hidden below the sun glass compartment housing. Plug and play. (reference here: http://www.subarufor...6/topics/407578). And install instruction here (http://techinfo.suba...-h501ssg000.pdf)
However for European and JDM, seems like may not have this harness.
Personally have not open up the sunglass compartment to check yet, but will be doing it in time. The dimming mirrors is a feature I miss and would like. :)
