Wife loves the super white HID on the FXT. When at traffic light I can tell it is one of the brightest among cars. Also super cool is when you start engine when it's dark the lights will make a x shaped sweep...reminds of transformer eyes! - ok end of cool quote of the day :-)

I thought 50w40 is the norm for engine oil for most cars?

Obviously, many owner when buy their new car. Don't even bother to read the owner manual.

Most Japanese car now are made to run with 5W20 or 5W30 engine.

Even the FXT engine oil cap clearly state 5W30, but AD ignore to see it.

Why local AD still using 5W40 and mainly from the seehum brand because they get supply of 5W40 seehum oil in drum at very cheap price. For local AD, everything is about max their profit.

5W40 oil are for car in the 90s...

You can request for 5W30 for the servicing. They are using Shell Helix 5W30 if you request.

To me, seehum oil a lousy EO .

I like Castrol 0W30 or 5W30 with syntec..

Shell Helix 5W30 and 5W40 are the two grades you can request without cash top-up. MI definitely has those. But you can also top up $ for Motul H-Tech 100 Plus 5W30, for example (I topped up for the Motul 0W20 for my Legacy, as specifically recommended in my owner's manual).

Decibels difference is negligible with the naked ears...unless you have a sound meter.

Ultra disappointment with the so called Harman Kardon system. Was expecting bit more clarity in the sound production. In my previous ride, i was using a pioneer midrange 1din HU as the original HU was spoiled after a while. I also changed to some taiwan brand speaker for the front 2 doors that the installer recommend with a top up of around $300 more and it sound so clear and solid even without any bass speaker nor amplifier. My CO and i will just suddenly mute the sound as it causing frustration and headache from time to time...

Believe it or not, I actually read from pg 1 to current.....

1 qn I have about the FXT is, do the S & S# modes also work on the reverse gear?

    Lol

Reverse gear will not cancel out S and S# mode, but cvt limits the gear ratio.

Sound is a very subjective thing. But I do agree the HK offering in the FXT did not really live up to its expectation.

While I don't deny the bass is pretty strong, a tad too strong for me but the system fail to bring out the high note of the music.

I suspect its also due to tweeter position on top of a weak crossover.

I have used the equalizer to drive up the high note and lower the mid range to get more clarity. Still not the best, but coming from a car with paper cone speakers, I can't complain much....

I would classify this system as the lowest range HK product you can get on OEM.

If manual says 5-30, juz use 5-30.

The engine is not designed for oil heavier than 30wt.

Nah, i dun like to go msia these days. Doubt i will ever fully utilized all the horses in the fxt. Anyway, i bought it not mainly for the turbo engine, but rather more for the HK sound system, the strengthen front suspension and stronger brakes. Anyway, this car is not designed to be a fast sports car. Its more of a good hauler for the family, especially when car is fully loaded with passengers and stuff. The back seats got leg rear room which is useful for me since i'm installing 2 car seats. So even if they are both rear facing, i still get decent room for myself and my front passenger.

Hmm, with the tall height and big surface area, i'm not sure if it will perform well at high speeds (>150km/h) on the NSHW.

AWD+low CG layout+solid chasis, it should perform well >150km/hr.

But, operate long (> 15 minutes) at such higher band of rpm range in high compression ratio boxer engine, I would think the engine likely to generate excessive amounts of heat... any expert can comment ?

There is a closed FB group and also a whatsapp group, which i didnt join coz dun wanna tio poison lol... Btw, the change in colour for leather is also change in quality. The upgraded leather is better in terms of quality. I only realized it when i took over my red fxt in terra brown leather.

With the upgrade, do they leather the centre console, centre side knee panel and centre info top? Just feel that the amount top up is not worth unless the quality is a few notch better than black and they use real leather. :)

the 5w50 is more suited for the older EJ20/25 engines. The newer FA20 has a different engine oil requirement.

Yes we got one and only authorized Subaru dealer here.

He can drive his Subaru over here and get it service!. I can recommend him to a few reliable workshop.

It's probably a half day trip only from KK to here. I'm getting the 50 weight from my Subaru dealer. I think we do have several engine oil that are 50 weight, just need to ask around.

As for tires, I would have thought Malaysia side is cheaper. Yes we do have quite a variety of choices for salon/wagon car. As for off-road tires, I would say Kota Kinabalu have lots of choices!

    Thanks for the resources.

Only using a Samsun soundbar at home and a Creative t4 system, which both sounded like crap after listening to my hk in fxt. Nowadays at home I just put on my Sennheiser pxc450, it's a pretty old noise cancelling big ear cups headphones.

I actually kinda enjoy the hk system. Recent fav includes Jay Chou 2016 concert which I play via Bluetooth from my iphone (Apple music). Set vol to 23-25 and everything outside seem practically muted. Really in my ow world kinda feeling. Coincidentally, my good Friend's bmw 320 has a customised sound system costing 3k plus didn't sound as impressive as i expected. Everything sounds muffled at the front passenger side. Think I didn't quite realised it as it was late night and road was clear and I was listening to music and didn't check the speedo. I dun recall the rpm was very high. Think was still less than 3k. Did you adjust the equaliser to suit your hearing? The default settings like impact, flat, bass, etc, seriously cannot make it. I customised it to enhance voice clarity, treble and bass. BTW, I am driving a non-turbo. The HK systems cannot be worse than the 160W speakers on the non-turbo right?

SUBARU FORESTER 2.0i TYRE FOR SALE !!!

I have one piece of Subaru Forester 2.0 (FNA) OEM Tyre (Yokohama Geolander G91 225 60R17) for sale. The Tyre running is only 2,000km and it came with my new forester of which I took delivery End May, 2016.

Reason for selling tyre is that my car front left wheel got damaged in a small hit with kerb. I tried to find the same in all Singapore including Motor Image, Yokohama tyres distributors and 50+ shops but all told me that OEM only come with new car and I need to change to the new tyre model (G055).

I have changed the front both tyres to newer model(Yokohama Geolander G055 225 60R17) due to which I have this remaining. The condition is excellent due to very less mileage i.e. 2000 KM.

Change audio system with amp and woofer set is a big job. I saw my Friend's brand new 320 kenna rip apart and having all the door panels and etc parts all over the workshop floor. Very heart pain experience. Quite painful to watch. Lol. He did a customised sound setup with dunno wat German stuff and get pro to tune. In the end, I commented That his sound system sounded weird. All the vocals sounded ultra sharp and irritating to the ears and some sounds end up muffled. Really unbalanced and weird.

Not just the additional wiring alone but he amp and woofer also took up quite some space in the boot. His a pillars also need to drill holes. Very scary...

Could the hk system really be better than mazda's bose system?

    I was seriously considering a 2.5L maz6 before I crave for FXT....

Actually i used to own the first gen of CX-5 (for 7 months) and it came with the same BOSE 6 speakers sound system as the mazda 6. Go hear it yourself. With 2 additional speakers and higher power, i find the clarify and bass to be much better. Of course, assuming that u have done the necessary tweaking under equalizer settings based on your own preference.

The 2.0 CX5 has quite good initial pick up, and that's about it. At mid to high speeds, it feels really heavy, more especially when fully loaded with passengers. I'm speaking in terms of the 2.0 skyactive engine. For Mazda 6 which has a much lighter weight, i guess the pick up should better. only problem with mazda's sedans (even for the 6) is the lack of interior space. For big size people, it really feels quite cramp.

Lastly, the skyactive engines are pretty noisy during initial accelerations.

Go test both bro. Sound is very personal and its individual liking. Bring along your favourite CD and test on both cars...then come let us know your preference.

I've actually tested both 2 mths ago. But at that time of prelim testing, I wasnt that interested in the audio system as much as the handling & performance of those vehicles. So I had the audio turned off to assess the noise insulation & engine noise.

To me, I find the 2.5L Maz6 beats the other JP sedans around that price range (sorry, Legacy owners, just my opinion). But Legacy gives a very close fight on overall package, I like its roomier cabin over the Maz6.

For SUVs, FXT is a no-horse-run! Nothing comes close....

Ask most audiophile... BOSE stands for buy.other.sound.equipment. :P

Nothing fantastic. HK is nothing to shout about also. :/

Agree with you bro.. FXT is a balance of value, performance and reasonable functionality.. Actually beside a good system, ppl need to consider insulation, door panels and dsp.. Its not just whether the sound system is good or not or if it is paper cone or whatever cone.. There r many brands with good sound system but r we willing to pay??.. Thats the question.. Lexus ML is one good system..

Looking at the brightness intensity, i doubt any LED in the market has this kind of brightness. It should be HID. I can really see the shiny backside of those cars in front of me when stop at traffic lights. I can imagine how the drivers in front of me must have felt. Wa lao,... so bright, better siam..

I think you guys confused between HID & LED already.

LED are the more in technology for car head light. Pre-FL are still using the HID.

Normally the legally allow light colour for HID is 4300k, so it will still see slight yellowish. Any number higher than this are likely to be illegal.

For LED, it is pure white. Recently release car are using LED. Eg. Vezel, higher end mazda 6, most premium conti model etc..

The top end of the headlight are the laser light used by BMW latest 7series.

Bro..totally Agree. I am just being naughty.. Are we buying a 240hp car are we buying a sound system?

Well if really not happy with sound system then can do the following:

    (1) install sound insulation & "cancellation" then see whether sound is ok
    (2) install a plug and play tuner but make sure you get a good an installer
    (3) don't rely on installer to help you to tune.. Do it yourself.. Only you know what is right for you
    (4) change the whole freaking system and face warranty issues with MI
    (5) all the above will need some serious $$$$. So unless that is not a problem.. Then the HK is not really a bad thing to have and appreciate..

    or easier

    #6 buy a lexus

My personal preference is to enjoy (and learning) the stock manufacturing specifications until warranty expires, then mod to my liking. But, it needs a strong will to resist all kind of "poisons" everyday :)

Laser needs some fan to keep it cool, and it is coupled with LED. Wonder if this is overkill in Sg with street lights so bright, lighting say 20m or more ahead I think is not critical. Lights serve more to make car more visible to other cars, and not to blind them :-)

Interesting point bro..with the heat we have here compared the colder countries n the lack of fan.. Potential fire hazard..

I felt the HK audio are pretty good already, the bass is strong, at least better than the NA speakers in my opinion. But then again, audio is very subjective and I'm the type who is into bass. May not be perfect but I'm quite sure it's at least better than average, if not reasonably gd for the price we are paying. I wouldn't recommend going thru the hassle reinstalling new speakers. Risk voiding warranty, additional cost, who knows you may end up less satisfied.

I tune to 92.4FM and all kind of sounds/notes from different musical instruments of the classical musics are well transmitted at the right sound frequency to my ears... the stock HK system works for me after my stubborn ear drums took 3 weeks to tune to get used to it... it is cheaper to tune my ear drums, after all.

Depends on your ride. I did 230 better ride but given I drive through terrain and risk metal chips daily... I rather go 240 with a bumpier rise than risk puncture... My 2 cents...

I just leave it as how they came at about 250ish. When I asked Jeff from MI at the 1000km service whether they checked tire pressure and that they pump it high, he said new tires they pump higher...i just take his word.

Did you find the stock noisy ? Or part of your ICE project ?

Door panel tear apart, you not heart pain meh?

Actually the door sound proofing not much help to reduce noise. Maybe wind noise slightly as the fxt is already very quiet. The intention is to improve the bass feedback and sound.when I change leather to brown the door panel already rip apart. Lol.

Are you doing the Clasani foam soundproofing ($550 for 4 doors) or the 3M panel soundproofing ($680 for 4 doors)?

Clasani one I already did for undercarriage. Will take the more ex one for door. Dunno what aluminium foam as shares by one of the Bros here. Not sure if it's 3m.

Soundproofing is a very intricate science... these type of soundproofing measures don't really help... you have to use a mix of materials of different densities, model the sound frequencies and the propagation routes and the various sources... if the soundproofing was not designed into the frame in the first place, all these subsidiary measures don't really count for much.

My father's Proton Wira was notoriously noisy as there was hardly any soundproofing... I managed to buy some soundproofing bitumen sheets and foam sheets... we went to Malaysia and got a audio workshop to strip down the car and stuck the bitumen sheets all over the car. The noise level dropped somewhat, but the difference wasn't really very significant for all the money we spent and time taken to strip the car and apply the bitumen and then restore the car.
