I don't deny that could be part of the issue but it did not felt that way when I was testing it. Im quite light footed normally so I don't think I pushed the NA engine to such limits.Maybe during test drive we tends to push the rpm higher to get the feel of the engine performance. XT engine doesn't need to be push unlike NA engine.
Up till now I'm still abit skeptical about what the SE told me.
Best thing for people who are choosing between both cars is to just go test drive it out. Test drive is free anyway.
hi,

still on the topic of the two cars and their merits... can someone help to answer this:

how many speakers are there in the XT? 8 or 12 ?
most www states 8, while product brochure states a whopping 12, even my SE also couldnt count to 12... or its just a printing error...

thanks
With the discussions about the NA and the Turbo, let me share my test drive experience.
I tested the NA model first, felt the drive is adequate, powerful enough but it was really really noisy. It felt like we are hearing even the noise of the engine in the rear seats.
Then I tested the XT, which was much quieter even thou with turbo. It felt quite refined actually as compared to NA.
When questioned, the SE said the consultation on the XT is much better and such so the noise level was much better in the XT.
Up till now I'm still not sure if the SE was bulls**tting me anot. Ha-ha but if based on that test drive, I would choose the XT if I did not decide on other cars.

Car got consultation??

Seriously have no idea how many speakers there are for XT. Even if it's 12 or 6, it's just adequate and not amazing. Audiophile may have to upgrade outside

I think it's 8. The Legacy has 12 speakers, but Harman/Kardon themselves only mention 8 speakers on the FXT.

The price for Forester glass coating $688 that can last for 3 yrs. However, they are currently having promotion at $888 on 1 year package (2 layers of glass coating, plastic & trim treatment, windscreen & brakedust repellent, leather & ordor treatment).

According to them, they will cure the glass coating so if it happen to be a rainy day, not a concerns.

Good luck booking with the pikapika guys. Long waiting queue and personally feel they like not hard up for my biz. Took my money else were. Personal opinion. Others may have better interactions

They use a heater machine to cure the coating inside the showfloor, so you shouldn't be concerned with that. I believe that is the case for most of the boutique groomers, though some like GroomersLab don't have a curing process in their procedure... drive away and cure in sunlight

Firstly, it's a taller car, so not that often will get high beam. Secondly, can pay $100++-200+ and get a auto dimming rear mirror genuine parts to replace. Thirdly if all fails... Boast the turbo and speed up.
Btw, which 115k-129k car in today COE level have auto dimming rear mirror?
sell yourself loh. I paid $90 post advert on SGcarmart and car sold on 2nd day at $3k more on the MI's dealer's trade in price.just a little flaw and the forester will be perfect. too bad no dealer keen to take in my trade in car. ..
And the dealer sold off the car on the 2nd week after I deliver the car to him... At least I see the car marked as sold.

have a xt for about 6 months now, I noticed the fc is super high when u are driving in start stop city traffic, however if u are on the highway, the fc a lot better den what you'd expect. My best tank so far achieved 9l/100km on the dash meter.

On a lighter note, turbo away before people got chance to high beam u lol
Jokes aside I was also not used as my previous car had that function but u will get use to it and being high beam is really like once in a blue moon Sia
Another good feature on the NA is the 17" tyres.. the rubber for this size is much much cheaper.
I just changed the stock Bridgestone Dueler 18" HL400 out.. and paid $310 per tyre for a set of Continental. The 17" cost $200 or less
Hi, did u change when the Duelers are fresh from dealer or just worn them?
Would like to get some reviews from Forester drivers cos tyre websites mostly not encouraging.
What Conti model did u get? Cos i tot CrossContact not available for 225/55/18. Thanks
Example, if refer to the various owner review from sgcarmart, most are commenting on XT but not the N.A. I can afford to pay for the XT but, can't accept the FC and the extra care need to take care for Turbo engine. Wonder did I made the right choice to get the N.A. instead of XT
There is no extra care needed for Turbo engine if you dun mod it or track it. Normal servicing will do. My EJ engine still works fine (touch wood) after 6.5yr. FB DIT engine designed to be better.
But comparing with N.A. reliability can't be exactly equal, if you know what I mean. Besides, I heard some comment that to prolong the life of Turbo car, might need to wait for 2 min before driving off and 2 min before shutting down. Furthermore, engine oil prefer higher viscosity, on time maintenance (fyi, sometime I service my car after 1 yr due to low mileage). Petrol prefer higher octane vs N.A etc. That is what I meant on "extra care."

When talking about engine reliability, I am talking about after 10 years, in case I can only afford to renew my COE during that era . Do you feel safer to renew the COE for a N.A. or Turbo engine car? Ifyou can see your car engine is having issue in 6.5 yrs, the quality is suck. I used to work in automotive manufacturing industry in quality engineering area. I conduct reliability test evaluation on part level (inclusive of engine)......

I guess knowing too much sometimes can contribute to more considerations that lead to indecisiveness. But on the other hand, possess more insight to make intelligent choice.
I used the Dueler400 until 4000km, no significant trade in value. Felt it's too soft for cornering and braking. But no major complaints bec didn't drive them too hard for these tyres are not for such nature. The treadwear for the dueler is at 300.Hi, did u change when the Duelers are fresh from dealer or just worn them?

I got the Conti CSC5 SUV 235/50r18, so it's 1.7% smaller in overall circumference, treadwear 420. Raining season coming and I love to drive fast in rain bec TP are indoors.. need some tyres that good in wet like CSC5, Eagle F1A2.. Dueler can't fuifill this purpose definitely.
It's much depends on individual driving style. Now 100% in tar road. If next time have chance to do some offroad then I buy another set of AT tyre with 16"/17" steel rim

Driving off immediately is no good for engine head gasket even for normal car. And no i dun have to wait 2min, more like 15 to 30sec but then most passengers take that time to settle in belt up.
Enginer oil no special viscosity needed compared to my previous Civic SiR.
And yes there is one driver who has renewed his Legacy COE twice....

I prefer Forester for keeping the rugger and robust outlookof a 2.0 SUV even the current Mayfacelift, which still resemble near the old school SUV as compare to the older brand facelift into more trendy look.

Why I chose Forester:
1)Safetywith best in class and also the7 air bags.
2) New Lineartronic Gear boxdesign to improveFC as compare to the olddesign.
3)TrueAWD for good slope climbing and corning.
4) Good Price atOct 15 at $117,800.00 at compare to other brand 2.0 SUVaverage $130,000.00.
(This saving of $12,200,00 is good enough to cover 5,810 litre of 95 petrol)
5) Can last above 10 yrs lifecycle.

As for FC, all SUV is make tolook big, so this ultimatelywill translate to higher FCas compare to saloon car.

Compare i-L or XT, for localshort distance and heavy trafficmy choice will be i-L, whichgoodenough power to over take, comfort travel,FC better than XT and lastlythe maintenance cost in long run.

That's my own though for choosing Forester i-Land looking forward to take over my new Forester comingWednesday.

So XT owners, did you notice the hood still has the provision for a scoop-duct? Was kind of amused when I saw it on the showroom car after popping the hood...

I didn't ask the SE as I assumed it is guarantee COE from the adverb I saw from MCF. The SE alsodidn't mention anything about guarantee or non guarantee when signing the contract. I just tell SE the amount of discount I targeted and he draft out the contract. Just sign when I validate the final value is what I can accept.

Not a bad thing to have intercooler scoop in front rather than on the bonnet in our local context. We have so many trees with small leaves in our open air car parks. The leaves fall onto bonnet and get pushed into the inter-cooler where over time, it turns dry and brittle. I always made it a point to pop open bonnet of my LGT and clean out the leaves and leaf fragments from the intercooler gills. A real pain, but the thought of leaves catching fire is even worse.

I'm not sure about Merc, but most turbo cars have intercoolers and are front mounted (FMIC), which is why there is no scoop.

Subaru runs top mounted (TMIC) perhaps due to lack of space in the engine bay.

I'm not sure about Merc, but most turbo cars have intercoolers and are front mounted (FMIC), which is why there is no scoop.

Subaru runs top mounted (TMIC) perhaps due to lack of space in the engine bay.

You are right! I went to trace turbo path on my Merc and yes, there is a small FMIC forward of, and below the radiator. But the compressed air path to and from IC is convulated when compared to Legacy. Even the IC is smaller compared to the Legacy.

Maybe the TMIC of Subaru is less of a compromise as it allows for shorter, straighter compressed air path with stronger cooling power of a larger IC.

I think mercs use smaller low pressure turbos, so they might not need such a big intercooler...

you should change the way you look at it:

CEVS discount will reduce your ARF by the value of CEVS, so it means that your CEVS reduce your PARF by 50% of the CEVS.

But when you pay a CEVS penalty, it is a separate surcharge that does not affect your ARF and therefore you do not get back 50% of your penalty.

After further research, realized in most countries, Forester is more expensive than it's peer. However, in Singapore, it is cheapest amongst it's competitor instead.

Besides, many countries, their N.A. vs XT has quiet a bigger gap as compare over here.

Sigh. 1st big bruise on my Forester on Sunday night 8pm. An irresponsible driver (staying at the same HDB estate) just let his passenger open the door widely and whack my car door twice, can even hear it from my car dash cam recording.

Hi bro, do you mean the transaction of my ex-ride...? If yes, already pm-ed you liao... :)
Was scouting for Forester information and this thread seems to be informative and active. Did a test drive last week on XT and mostly likely getting it.
What is holding me back now is the facelifted version when its coming.

Good choice bro to get the XT...Someone saw a 2016 facelift version arrrived at MI think few days ago, but not too sure when they'll put it on display at the showroom...some SE commented that probably Mar'16 may release the sales details of the facelift...?

I asked two different SE but both say no info. Seems like MI keeping mum at the moment.
My thought is dont wait liao. Get one the soonest and after 5yrs, trade in for the next latest better model. By that time, at least we can drive until 2030. That will be probably the last car for many ppls here can or willing toafford before COE is 200k at Y2025 as below:

I'm keen to sell off my car by myself just that don't know the process well..

Was told by SE there was a recent facelift in May 2015. Can senior advise what was the changes then?

The recent is not a facelift...the new items added are the head unit is a different model, & a boost meter in the front dash screen...think that's all...

Bring in for LTA approval and potentially catch CNY buyers?...
That could be the reason...
What do you all do/apply/add once you got the new ride? Heard MI very strict on 3rd party addons. Even tire also have to get from Stamford or them?

Suppose only apply only during warranty period. Once that over can do what we want .
Just make sure all this same size and same amount if wear on the threads.
I remember someone here mentioned Turbo car does not require to wait for2 min before start and shutdown. Below is a post that mentioned it is recommendedto prolongit's life (btw, there are others that mentionedsuch practice from other postbefore):

Well, lemme put it this way, it's a Subaru Forester. It's not meant for speed, it's not meant for handling, it's meant for a family to carry crap in comfortably.
Yes you will gain power buy utilizing a turbocharger, power that you will rarely use in a family vehicle. A turbocharger utilizes exhaust gasses as a power supply, producing horsepower ONLY when your vehicle is putting out enough exhaust gasses for it to spin up. That only happens when you're already driving. So yes, you'd get more power to accelerate after you've already accelerated to a somewhat reasonable speed.
Next, look at the fuel costs. As you stated it requires premium fuel. I don't know what that runs for in your area but around here it's about another 40 cents per gallon. With a 16.9 gallon tank (rounded to 17 for easy math), estimating a tank a week, that's an extra $.80 per tank, $353.60 per year, or $1768 over a 5 year lifespan.
Finally, maintenance. It's recommended that you give your vehicle 2 minutes of operation before you drive at a speed that allows the turbocharger to spin up, and another 2 before you turn the car off. Admittedly not a lot of people follow this, but that is the recommendation. They rarely break down, but if/when they do it's a somewhat major repair. In addition to repairing/replacing the turbocharger you have to have your engine inspected for damage, increasing both the money and time spent repairing it.
Put bluntly, if it wasn't a family car I'd consider it. If it were a little more nimble, or a little quicker, I personally wouldn't mind having a turbocharger. But it's a family car, it's meant to carry your kids and your stuff from Point A to Point B in a comfortable, safe manner. It's not meant for the track, it's not meant to zip in and out of traffic, and it's not meant to race kids in Mustangs driving down the highway.

I couldn't have said it better. Coming from LGT, it's really nothing to shout about, not in terms of speed, handling, or agility. It's just a safe, taller vehicle which my passengers prefer. It can't corner for nuts despite being the XT version, it's heavy and sluggish unless you boost, and then your fuel efficiency goes down. It's not very luxurious or high class, or has lots of bells and whistles, and with the CVT, not that engaging to drive anyway.
I only buy it because there is not that many choices at that price.

From my experience, if you are trading your current car to your SE on the day of your new car collection, they will hand you the cheque on the car collection day. If you are deregistering your current car on the date when your new car arrives, you will need to wait around 4 weeks for LTA to give you back the cash for dereg to the owner of the vehicle. This is for Nissan, could be the same for Subaru.

I kinda disagree bro. For its price point, the added power is a bonus. While not a sports car, the power available on tap do give more confidence in traffic condition which usually are not found in such SUV class. ( ignore cars like x6 etc).
So while u should drive and treat it like at normal car, do be happy to know when needed the power is there to do your bidding.
Here in SG, I for one can only afford a single car and I would try to make the best out of the resource available to me. So a spacious and comfortable day to day drive, with the knowledge that I have the capacity for "fun" when the weekends come.
