There are so many PPS products in the market now that I've lost count. All will claim that their coatings are the best. It's could be nano, ceramic, glass, titanium or whatever they want to call them.

It'll come down to budget as well. Set a budget, do some research on reviews of the different companies. Waxing might appear to be cheaper as compared to ceramic coating or equivalent, but the latter coatings will last longer. You will be able to see the 'beading' and gloss results for a longer period. Not to mention easier to clean as dirt is easily washed off.

I did the CS-II PPS for my last car and it manages to seal in the black in the paint after 8 years, as compared to my friend's black car bought during the same period. Of course fine swirl marks will appear after some time regardless of what coatings, but it does protect the paint to a certain degree as compared to none.

My current FXT is now coated with ceramic coating with so called 9H hardness since week 1 from another detailer. But I'm quite disappointed with the coating after 2 months. Saw some fine swirl marks and the beading effect is not so pronounced anymore. It's not the top of the range though, at $450, but I expected it to last a little longer. Most likely will do some other coating nearer to CNY next year. Called up the detailer and he said I washed it the wrong way! I followed their washing instructions and it seems they are trying to shun away from touching it up. Can PM me if you want to know which detailer. I will not disclose it openly online.

Thanks. I am a bit skeptical about all these pay to coat services. Instead I am Youtubing those various products, and I am inclined to go for DIY sealant that can last a few months and enhance with some lighter sealant or wax from the same product range......I am not really into this for looks, but more for functional paint protection..

I am also a bit lacking in knowledge on the prep. Seems a jet spray is very useful to wash off dirt but staying in HDB unless I get a portable pump and jet I would be left with pouring pails of water. Concern is if I don't clean it well in the prep stage then the sealant stage may seal in dirt or scratch the car....which makes me think back about pay to coat services....grrrr....

If you are staying HDB, forget about DIY. I don't even wash my car ownself due to lack of running water hose. How to use portable jet spray w/o constant running water?

It's going to be tricky to prep the car for proper coating. Not just washing thoroughly, but also claying and polishing.

Especially if your car is black like mine, it will be extremely difficult to maintain in tip top condition all the time with our tropical weather. I agree that it's more for the paint protection properties.

Fungsiong, regarding the "Battery we have in our car is original from Japan - liquid type not maintenance free", does it mean that we have to top up the liquid now and then? Where to get this liquid? Eventually, can we replace this battery with those maintenance free type like from Amazon?

    Thanks.

I have never need to top up the OEM battery in my Leggy during the time I used it. just ask MI to do it for you during servicing bah.

why do you need water pump? just connect hose with the correct adaptor and spray lah! if you want it easier, go HomeFixIt to get those brands where people use for their gardens, to get the correct tap adapter (it will come with both sizes common in HDB washing points). buy a durable hose plus a nozzle, and you are good to go!

as long as you wash when no one else around, nobody will care about your spraying...

Car alarm is necessary if you drive a Harrier and mark X.. Esp when u go massage in JB

Any car alarm is useless if they have the "master key". Deterrents might make them think twice.. e.g. Steering wheel lock.

To use the "cloud", you need to add a data device (from Blackvue) with "sim card with data plan", so that video files can be sent to the "cloud". Pro is that you can access video files remote. The con is that you need a data plan.

Actually the device can be any mifi, doesn't have to be from BlackVue. BlackVue requirements is a Internet connection via Wifi. So if you have a spare phone that can enable tethering.. also can.

Also Power Magic cuts off power before camera sucks it dry... can consider Cellink-B, which is like another set of batteries that BlackVue connects to. How this works is BlackVue is connect to Cellink-B and the car charges that battery when on the move. Celllink-B batt dead, BlackVue cannot record. Engine start.. charging starts and Blackvue working again.

How to get the cellink B setup done? Some options I thought were :

OPTION 1)Ask MI do but without Powermagic Pro. MI I believe will connect the BV to the fuse box at driver seat and conceal all the wires swee swee.

Then get 3rd party to install Cellink B by disconnecting BV power cable from fuse and attach to Cellink B below driver seat. Cellink B connect to 12v outlet in armrest. Alternatively connect to fuse.

Questions a) Will there be sufficient length cable for 3rd party to run BV power cable to Cellink B under driver seat? Can MI bundle excess length if cable to fuse is too long and 3rd party unbundle later?

    b) Will disconnecting BV power cable from fuse or connecting Cellink to fuse for power make MI say affect warranty?

OPTION 2) Ask 3rd party to install BV and Cellink B.

Question : Will there be further warranty issues now for fitting the BV by 3rd party which involve tucking cables around the gasket etc.

All this running in my head...

Why don't u ask MI directly? If someone here told u it won't void warranty, do u believe?

i ask MI whether can I change the horn outside during servicing, they straight off told me void related warranty. They offer me better horn which is the one use in Legacy but I have to pay them like $150 or $200 (cant remember) for this upgrade.

Note: Even change rim from outside (except at Stamford tyre?) also void warranty.

If you worried about voiding warranty like me, don't ever think of changing/adding anything (except aesthetic) that is not done by MI.

If they void your electrical warranty based on the changes you intend to do, good luck....

simplest option is to get your SE throw in BV front and rear free and you top up $90 for PMP. All done by MI, any issues with the BV also settled by MI.

Yeah I have asked SE to let me talk to technician when I go make my final payment. SE says my questions too technical for him.

My logic is that if I plug BV to Cellink and Cellink to 12v outlet i am not messing around with anything. Unless there are restrictions on what can be plugged into the 12v outlet.

I don't think the resale value will vary vary much between the 2 cars. Nowadays, Korean cars are also well made with lots of bells and whistles.

Apart from the things you like abt the Tucson, I do find the Tucson looks nicer and more modern. And that's my honest opinion though I own a forester XT. For me, the engine of a car is the most impt thing so the FXT wins hands down.

Since you have already narrowed down to the 2 cars, buy with your heart and don't try to rationalise too much. Either choice makes a great car

Tuscon also have blind spot monitoring, front and rear sensors, auto-hold function (*for the more expensive model), sunroof* with auto shutter (not like Forester manual shutter), anti-glare rearview mirrors.

all in all not shabby and sound insulation sounds decent too...

How you guys decide whether to get xt or na ... Latest price gap between them about $15k beside higher maintenance & higher FC on xt since turbo factor. Now my final is xt vs na to replace my present accord jdm due on October 2016. Hope to close the deal today due to yesterday MAS released new car finance as predict Coe may goes up due to buying power is cheaper. Can give me some hinters which to buy if you have my final before tks.

I made my decision actually due to auto tail gate and driver memory seat. Plus I am not a Zeng car guy, even rims also stock all the way. So I rather get a bit more power and nicer rims.

I'm those who probably won't get to use the full power of the turbo but the generous amount of torque available at low rpm (due to the turbo) is a good enough reason for me to get the FXT. It will be safer to do over taking, esp when you meet those drivers that will speed up when you try to switch lanes.

What "freebies" did you ask for.?

People dont seem to realise that Blackvue cameras etc are not a sign of your negotiating skills and prowess, they are all factored into the price you pay.

Without realising it, a friend of mine and I both booked Foresters the same week ( I sabo him, we were on our way somewhere when I stopped in at leng kee to test drive and he followed me for the ride, then liked it so much he ended up booking the same car..) Actually after owning the FXT, I will say it drives like a XC60 or Land Rover Evoque which I previously drove, just the engine don't sound so refine. The turbo do come in handy in merging lanes or when you have a small window to overtake a road hog. Now a day all conti SUV comes with turbo, for the price you are quote, you need to be looking at least double the price for the driving pleasure in a conti, when the FXT drives like one.

    Just my 2 cents.

Bro got your point ... It's useful to face this kind of driver... I have been a disciplined driver for many years with no accident or summon ... Even I manage to overtake this driver, he will still unhappy by overtake you back or abuse back ... Yesterday I travelled 70 1st lane at west coast highway already got 1 traffic police on the overhead bridge .... So far all fxt I saw on the roads quite discipline drivers...

    Wrx is timing belt engine

Nope, the New WRX and FXT uses the new FA20DIT engine, its timing chain already.

The trim and equipments apart, the general difference between XT and NA is the engine and lower power.

Ask yourself is the power worth the price difference? Will you regret? How much more is that price difference over the loan period? Can you afford it? The FC will be higher, worth the power?

You will know the answer quite easily.

It will be safer to do over taking, esp when you meet those drivers that will speed up when you try to switch lanes.

"Overtaking power" is just a lame excuse to justify getting the turbo. The NA have adequate power to do so. Heck if older cars on the road can survive why not the FNA?

Theres no justification or rational for a turbo engine, its all depending on what you passion for driving and the passion for turbo engine power.

of course there are those to buy XT solely due to them not wanting to be seen as buying a "lower tier" version of the model, and not even using the potential of the engine. Such foolish people are there...

My contributions if it helps you make up your mind between the XT and NA..My previous ride had better specs to the XT in terms of BHP, Torque and century sprint. Like you I really struggled to make the call between XT and NA. In the end I bought the NA because of cost reason in an economy that is slowing, although frankly both the XT and NA are value for money.

It took awhile for me to get use to the NA, but overall I do like it and I enjoy getting into the car every day. The NA does have a nice drive as well. So I don't have any regrets but occasionally I do miss the "back push to the seat" feeling when I go full on with the acceleration pedal.

Overall I find the NA powerful enough to over take 90% of the time and it does drive well enough based on my driving habits. One thing that helped made up my mind was that I never really exploited the full potential of my previous performance car because I am quite a disciplined driver so thought the NA would be just the right car for me. At a time seeing friends and colleagues losing their jobs, that 15k of saving can go a long way.

    Hope this helps!

Ive tried the forester na and xt and some other comparable SUVs such as cx5, tiguan 1.4,etc. The choice to me was quite a no brainier I chose the xt immediately. I like the upgrade audio system, memory seats, powered tail gate, extra power of the xt. Like wat some bros mentioned, u need to pay at least 2 times the price of xt for a conti suv to enjoy similar levels of driving pleasures. No kidding on that. The forester xt does rides well. In fact I feel it rises better than the BMW X3 which has stiffer and bumpier suspension.

But the biggest deferent for me not choosing forester na is still the engine. I feel that even when driving at low speeds, it's doesn't sound as refine as the xt. It is more relaxing to drive the xt even st low speeds as it is less taxing on my right foot. The high torque st low revs really helps to get this heavy car move much easier. Of course I dun mind the slightly higher fc and maintenance cost of the xt.
Oh ya also forgot to add. It's actually much cheaper to insurance yourself for xt compared to conti SUVs such as x3 and xc60. It cost me around 1.3k for comprehensive aviva with 20% ncd for for a 34yr old driver. The na cost about 1k for me

Any Forester owner here retain the original fabric seats from Japan instead of the local leather seat. I find the local leather seat of low quality. Saw the the original fabric seat in Japan when I was there earlier this year and in IMHO, looks better than the local leather.

According the SE I asked after test drive yesterday, there is a reduction of about 1K if choose to retain original fabric seat.

Also took a test drive in the Levorg as recommended by SE as value for money buy. Pretty good performance though. What I like most is the interior quality. The leather seats and fittings are all from Japan and clearly it is a few notch higher in quality especially the leather seats.

Only let down is the smaller leg room in second row compared to forester. However the boot space is bigger.

I made my decision actually due to auto tail gate and driver memory seat. Plus I am not a Zeng car guy, even rims also stock all the way. So I rather get a bit more power and nicer rims.

Same as me. My wife and I will drive 50-50 of the car. I am 15cm taller than her and cant imagine using the slow electric buttons to adjust everytime. Tailgate, I will be the one carrying hands full of groceries quite often so it will be useful. Sure its not just for these for the extra 13k or so..I must admit as a guy the XT would make a "better" drive even if its mainly psychological boasting rights :-)

....also spend 110k liao why stinge on a bit more.

    Forester owners,

Which service centre is better? TPY or LK?

Anyone seen how the mechanics test drive after servicing?

About the FC indication for previous trip comparison after turning off the engine, it was showing 17.8 when collected the car after servicing when I usually get 6.x from my own driving.

You want to know how to get 17.8? Just drive round your carpark once and leave it idle for 15mins. :)

    Maintenance mileage not accurate.

Just enjoy your car and dont let don't let dents n scratches bother you.

It's inevitable and is part and parcel of car ownership.

True,in most cases. :) We do find people who can't stand the sight of new cars and put dents in them. :o

The high coe also coerce many to feel more for the vehicle, and take care of it more. More so in our little island, than cars in other places.

Just collected my Red xt this morning. Pump esso 8000 full tank after collection. Run in for first 1600km keep below 4K rpm. Doubt I will rarely hit more than 3k... Drive was relaxing, comfortable and pretty refined. Drove around for about 100km for whole of today with mix of city and hw. Saw the meter on dashboard show 10L/100km. Not bad. Didn't had to step much on the accelerator and could get the car moving. I keep the revs below 2k on hw at about 100-110kmph and around 60kmph on city. Got 1 or 2 occasions where I need to filter out to main road and I forgot and I step a bit harder like wat I usually do and the car rush forward almost instantly. Wow, that's sweet.

Speeding at 100-110 kmph in Sg? For me I never exceed...very guai, or maybe I havent collected my xt yet :-)

Anyone here have a problem with the aircon? when you are in auto mode, the air circulation indicator will off by itself after some time. And usually when the fan is in power 1(lowest speed).

This is not a problem. It is a conti programme for the aircon. To auto re-circular fresh air from outside. Definitely not useful for us.
The only way to prevent it from open the air from outside is set to a lower temperature. I think is 22deg and below.

Speeding at 100-110 kmph in Sg? For me I never exceed...very guai, or maybe I havent collected my xt yet :-)

The speedo is about 7-8km/h faster than gps speed. So 100km/h is only about 92km/h actual speed.

I set auto aircon, temp set to 24-25, air circulation on. For the 100plus km on I drove today dun have the problem U mentioned.

I normally drive in lane 1 and follow the pace. If it's 90 then 90, 100 then 100, etc. Heheh. Even at 100-110 it felt like I was at a much lower speed. It's really stable at high speeds and handling is pretty good for such a tall car.

Just dun use auto mode. Press the air circulation first then turn the centre knob either way to on the aircon and it will not auto off the air circulation.

My iu kept dropping down. Solar film already fixed up by MI since collection. Camera I not getting those expensive type. I bought a less than $100 front cam which I will hide wires myself and plug into power socket.

U face any issues with the car?

I can't remember but estimate it is around $300 or more. I got it installed before getting the car. Recently just installed the fender protector also everything including labour quoted $580 and can use DUO points to pay partially. Can always check with your SE/SA for more info and I recommend go TPY(even though I stay near LK) cos they have everything there.

Thanks for the info. How many duo points are we giving for buying the forester? Worth about how much? Thanks again.

Hi bro, can share how much is the side protector from MI?

I think the side protectors are mainly for aesthetics. Every car height is different, that thin strip will not always be the point of contact.

I beg to differ bro, my ride was collected on 30th Sep 2015 and till now, no dent on it except a few chip off paint on the side protector cause by in considerate driver that open and knock on my door. the side protector paint can just touch up, but dent on the car is a more headache issue if you really take care of your ride.

Anyone here have a problem with the aircon? when you are in auto mode, the air circulation indicator will off by itself after some time. And usually when the fan is in power 1(lowest speed).

    Try this:

    After you start the car:
    1. Press the internal circulation button
    2. Turn the fan knob (center knob) to start the aircon.
There you have it, the aircon system will not switch off the internal circulation mode no matter the temperature you set.

Almost booked the Subaru FXT on Sat and unfortunately due to miscommunication with the SE, I was at TPY showroom and he was at Lengkee showroom and he also refused to reduce the price over the phone. If I compare the price quoted for FNA by another bro here, he paid for $104.8 butmy SEquoted me $108.8k without much freebies.

Quite unhappy with such pricing strategy by this SE and Ijust bought another car on Sat night. Next day this SE sms me and offer another $500 discount but I told him that I have bought another car.

In case you are looking at Subaru, please choose your SE wisely. This SE said that they are going to increase price from 1st June onwards.

This is not a problem. It is a conti programme for the aircon. To auto re-circular fresh air from outside. Definitely not useful for us.
The only way to prevent it from open the air from outside is set to a lower temperature. I think is 22deg and below.
The speedo is about 7-8km/h faster than gps speed. So 100km/h is only about 92km/h actual speed.

Thanks man. I am doing my servicing now. The problem is actually an auto feature as mentioned.

    Try this:

    After you start the car:
    1. Press the internal circulation button
    2. Turn the fan knob (center knob) to start the aircon.
There you have it, the aircon system will not switch off the internal circulation mode no matter the temperature you set.

    I will try. Thanks

My SE did tell me about the duo points which he said they will send a letter to give me the points. Only thing is he didn't tell me how many points. Thinking of using the points to do auto mirror folding.

I didn't hear about the owner's briefing though.
