Hi all. Can I check with you guys whether the radio on FXT will sound muffled occasionally? The sound quality will become bad for a while on this channel, then switch to another channel will be ok. Then maybe after a while, it will sound bad again. Is it due to poor reception?

Yes, the sudden muffled reception happens from time to time. Probably due to certain areas of bad reception or 'blind' wave spots. But I'm not too worried as it usually return back its clarity a few seconds later when on the move.

My iu kept dropping down. Solar film already fixed up by MI since collection. Camera I not getting those expensive type. I bought a less than $100 front cam which I will hide wires myself and plug into power socket.

U face any issues with the car?
Thanks for the info. How many duo points are we giving for buying the forester? Worth about how much? Thanks again.

My steering wheel is tilted slightly to the left when driving straight, and the leather wrap on the rear center head piece was not done properly. I will ask them to re-wrap that piece again during 1k servicing. Will also ask them to rectify the steering issue at that time too.

I think the duo points depend on the amount of loan that you took. You can log in to find out how many points you have.

Thanks for the info. Not sure why only this car is like that. My previous cars did not have such issues.

Looks like the steering issue is a common problem on Forester, mine had this issue too but I didn't pay much attention to it. I think must hound the service advisor on this for my next servicing.

Any way to check this steering wheel alignment at the showroom before driving off?

On the seat leather wrap, it is a common issue. A member of the Forester facebook group is gathering list of complaints and going to write to MI.

I do not think it's the problem with reception but something else - Personally also experience the same muffled sounds coming from the speakers, whether on radio or using my own MP3 music via Bluetooth.

Quite frustrating as this is not the type of sound system one would expect from a brand new car - anyone has the same issues but managed to resolve it?

I've tried a few fm channels 98.5, 933 etc. All sounds clear to me. But i normally dun listen to radio but listen on music on my iPhone using Bluetooth. The HK speaker setup sound awesome to me. It's much clearer than the bose system in cx5. Well, it may not be audiophile grade but it's already much better than my creative t4. Bluetooth is good too, no breaking up during Bluetooth transmission unlike my previous sylphy which came with a China brand HU. Overall, very satisfied with the sound system.

For my case, no issues when playing MP3 or CDs, very clear and bassy. I think it's the digital signal processor for the radio that's causing the intermittent muffled sound. Does not happen all the time, but can definitely hear the difference when it does.

I better do a more thorough check on my leather wrap. Only did a quick check during collection. So far the leather seats look ok. I haven notice anything wrong with the steering wheel.

Today I did my first servicing with mi.
    Quite please with it.
They washed my dirty white car and vacuum inside.

Only setback is that I went in the morning and collect about 4-5pm. 1000km servicing.
Just wondering that I should book the earliest time slot that next servicing.

Today I went test drive and interested in a NA.

However all the SE did was quoted the official list price of $113,800

Then $1,000 discount if 6 bids NG
Or $2,000 discount if 8 bids NG
    Or $2,000 if trade in.

So the best offer I can get is $$109,800 if I take up 8 bids NG and trade in

Is that normal. I see some Bros here with much cheaper ?

Think its on the way up. Your price is about the CNY / February price for NA. My friend bought around that time at this price...

Also those bros who got lower, could be they got remainder colours or they had longer loan....not so sure about this....

My SE did tell me about the duo points which he said they will send a letter to give me the points. Only thing is he didn't tell me how many points. Thinking of using the points to do auto mirror folding.

I didn't hear about the owner's briefing though.

SE told me Duo Point = (Purchase Price) - (COE Price).

    $1=1point.

Let say your purchase price is $109,800 and COE is $50,000.

    $109,800-$50,000= $59,800

    $59,800 = 59,800 Duo Point.

But I don't know how much point then can get a $100 voucher.

I'm looking at the FNA. Seems to fit my needs better as I'm not really so keen on the turbo. Is the turbo worth it?

What's the standard freebies and stuff to ask for?

    Any good SE to intro?

After almost 200km with my xt. Fc seems reasonable. Meter shows 9.6L/100km. About 60hw/40city. Revs kept around 2k with occasional jab on the pedal hitting near 3k. Aircon set to 24-25 degrees and it's pretty cold. I dun experience the air circulation problem that some bros are talking about. I set air circulation to on and it never turn off by itself even when I change temp.

Hi, I have this problem too, the feeling is like bad reception intermittently switching between stereo-mono. I reported this problem but they claimed not to be able to find anything wrong. I highly suspect antenna wiring bad. I know sometimes car camera can affect the reception but I turned off camera still same, in fact before camera installation already like that.

Mmm... if you have budget for outback and decides to select forester NA bec not keen on turbo... then better stick to outback... else when u drive the forester NA.. high chance will experience buyer remorse.

MI sells groovy shades. DIY in couple of minutes. You can google groovy shades and laser shades fitted to Foresters. Good deterrent of sunlight especially for the back passengers.

Given by my SE for my FNA as part of freebies.

I viewed the QQ 2.0 before buying FXT, was actually considering QQ2.0 and FNA.

QQ do looks a lot better, the leather car wrap is much more classy, interior built and exterior looks also much better than Forester.

My only concern was the headroom, since I am buying a SUV, I wanted one with more room.

In the end, I do say QQ have their followers and rightly so, I also paid extra $500 to have my leather wrapping upgraded and I will say it was the best add on I made, makes the FXT look and feel much better.

    Just my own opinion.

Agreed. From an estimation over 10 yrs, the TCO for buying/maintaining a Forester vs Qashqai 1.2T could be around 20k.

Have to say he was my SE and i was not impressed, he did not honour the previously agreed and arranged delivery date and then tried to collect all the final payments before informing me the delivery was delayed. I had to tear the cheque up and throw him out of my office, not a very pleasant experience for either of us. So no idea where all his supporters come from...

When my friend asked me for a contact at MI (he is now also a Forester owner..) I referred him to another agent from a friend who bought an XV who he recommended and both found him to be good.

Moral of this story. Each to their own and caveat emptor.!

Anyway he just lost a customer.

Going down meet Jass for test drive this weekend instead.

Not siding anyone, he probably can't tell from your messages that you're really keen to book. They receive tons of enquiries everyday and deal with walk-ins as well as referrals... Suggest you pump him a call instead.

I didn't have instant replies from Jass too although I booked the forester with her.

I think don't expect top class service from bread and butter marques and you will be a happier shopper

    Hey Forester owners

Do you feel there's quite high level of road noise intrusion from your stock rides? The doors sounded like milo tins when you knock it. Have to install sound proofing mats to make it sound sweeter..

Or my ears are too picky? stock tyres are lousy? Only did 600ks on them

Not sure abt FXT stock tires but i dont rate the FNA stock tires very well. Heard them screeching a few times even when making a simple u-turn. Or when i stop on a steep slope and move off again, stepping abit harder. Dont think the engine is that power, just think the tires have lousy traction since they are rated B anyway.

Anyway the built quality of FNA isnt very impressive. 2.8k mileage and i seem to hear rattling coming from rear portion of the car, either from the rear doors or spare tire styrofoam board or the tonneau cover.. quite irritating.

Speakers also as it gets louder tend to vibrate n rattle... likely need to upgrade and soundproof once 1yr audio warranty is up

The leather change is one my best choices made to my ft too. Not just a change in color but the leather grade is better too. U can feel it. Btw I changed it to terra brown. It liven up the interior a lot.

The qq 2.0 is a much better drive than the 1.2t in my opinion. But unfortunately, it lacks the characteristics of a true suv. Most importantly, it's too small especially the rear seats. Lesser legroom means harder to put rear facing child seats as the front passenger and driver need to move forward a bit. Not good for me and wife since we like to push our seats back.

Same colour as mine... Makes the interior more classy... But kinda easy to spot the scratches and dust or white marks appear very obvious... But I Guess I made the decision to overlook these when I choose Tera brown knowing my high utilisation will not be able to keep the leather clean for Long

I had installed the sound proofing mats in the front doors of FNA, single layer applied to the inner layer of the door first to try out its effects. For better audio experience would probably need to apply a second layer, and change the front speakers.

Am sourcing for better quality and quiet tyres for the FNA too. Really cost cutting measures from MI. Tyres are the only contact between vehicle and ground and I would change them out first.

The stock xt tires are deuler 400. Kinda for off road use. Not too good for grip and traction on Tarmac. On hw speeds definitely got road noise even for bmw. My fren BMW on 18 inch low profile the tire noise worse than xt.

Any bro here manage to source for better tires for xt? Thanks.
For those who just collected their forester and find the ride bumpy, pls do check your tire pressure.

If u wanna add a sub (eg. active sub with in-build amp), installer will tap signals from the front door's speaker...for a start, by soundproofing your front doors (2 layers), your stock speakers will sound better...& lower the muffling or vibrations if u turn up the volume...

Local market for soundproofing material is using the brand STP...there're both silver STP & gold STP (different in thickness)...usually a silver STP is adequate if u just need it to provide sound deadening of the door, & market rate is $50 a piece...think about close to 4pcs is required if just for one layer on the front doors; 7pcs for 2 layers.

heard a lot of bad reviews on the MI solar film. So i parked my car under hot sun for 3 hours plus at thomson medical centre the other day. After i came back to fetch car, i was expecting a huge gush of hot air when i open the door. But, no leh, the air temp inside was not very much hotter than outside. The seats didn't feel hot too. The perforated leather seats help to keep things cool too i guess. so far the solar film seems to work well, no bubbles or anything. I don't think there's a need for me to change it.

After a few days of driving in all kinds of road conditions and traffic. (a mix of roughly 60% hw and 40% city) I've done close to 500km. the fuel meter is showing 2 bars less from half way mark. Trip computer is showing around 8.6L/100km (11.6km/L) on average. Some trips if mainly HW can hit 7.5L/100 (about 13+km/L). And my engine is still running in.

I believe this type of newer twin scroll turbo engine can get good fc depending on the driver.

yup agree....prolong parking under hot sun will still get the heat in the car no matter what...it's the difference when u drive out of the MSCP into the hot sun, the heat won't be as bad as my stock's tint, if you're using a better grade tint...u put your arms under the sun at the front windscreen, & u can feel the heat...but for a better grade tint, the heat won't be that bad liao...thus your car get cooler faster.... [thumbsup]

Forester NA VS Outback -> forester NA (lower Fc, road tax, easier to park due to slimmer and shorter)

Forester XT VS Outback -> Forester XT (coz of pure power)

Personal opinion is big heavy car with 2.5 NA engine is a bit tiring to drive in our kind of stop-start traffic. It lacks the low end torque to catch up with traffic. I rather choose a smaller sedan or cross over with small engine.

The outback is good for long distance drive or road trips.

Agree on the MI solar film that came with the car. It's quite decent and that's why I never see a need to spend that $1000 to change to another branded film. It's not much difference to the top grade film in terms of heat rejection on my previous car.

Opinions will be split among the different owners here. Best is to test it out and then deciding if one is to spend that money. Sometimes it's just psychological when one read some reviews. Base on the specifications of the MI solar film, it's not that bad.
