alot of mis-timed passes. does it too casually. needs to be more serious in his passing and not underestimate the bpl standards.

i was shocked at one moment seeing burnley pressing us down within our half. even sterling was at the halfway mark. what is happening? we are lucky not to go down with a goal by halftime.

if we lose this game, it is an achievement for burnley as they show more huner.

if we draw, we are lucky.

if we win, we are damn lucky.

hope the 2nd half shows the flowing football we crave for.

sterling should play on LWF but who as striker??? Ojo??

Very messy and no control, no system in attack and defending. From the way I see the best man for job's tactics is, it's just burnley, no need to set tactics, we have better players, just hope for the best and hope we win.

the players really lacked the steam to run and create problems. hope they did not underestimate burnley.

"In terms of our character and resilience in the game, we showed outstanding qualities when needed," the Northern Irishman told reporters inside the stadium.

"The players deserve huge credit, because even though we hadn't played so well in the first half, we actually defended reasonably well. We got our blocks in, stopped crosses and with anything that did come into the box, we got up to the ball and defended really well.

He wants to stay as Liverpool manager and win back the supporters, he needs to do the following:

I lagi do not understand why when the defence is weak, he plays three defenders only. And why there is no out-and-out striker, and he rather put them if any on the bench. Everytime there is an attack by Pool from the wing, I looked at the opponent's goal mouth, there was not a single soul there to receive the cross, if the cross did manage to come in. Pathetic....

You cannot defend and you cannot score, you are doomed to get knock out.

I simply do not understand. Maybe he knows something that lesser mortal like me do not know?????

Because the best man for the job doesn't know how to play any other way other than change formation. And most important of all, he doesn't know how to set up defence. His theory of death by football is not to allow opposing team to have the ball. No ball, cannot start attack. But cannot be unless your own team is really good in keeping the ball. So based on that, he neglect the defence. We can see from the number of defenders he signed, the problem still exist. It is not because the defenders he signed are no good, it is because he doesn't know how to use them and formulate a system to protect the rearguard.

His death by football theory is to deny the opponent to have the ball. If lost ball, rather lose the ball higher up in midfield (an upgrade from his Swansea-play-ball-in-defence-theory) and to get the ball back very fast with the forwards pressing very hard... with high tempo... and then rest on the ball....

End up... goalie hide in 6 yard... cannot pass the ball welll... spent 20M on left CB (after spending 17M on sakho) who loves to pass the ball to opponent and uses his slowest midfielder as midfield anchor, providing opponent a target to press.... signed a maverick 16M striker who may implode plus doesnt press....

Hence "someone" leaked to the press that it wasn't the manager's choice to sign certain players like balotelli but the transfer committe. Sure know how to give excuses, cover his own backside and protect his own interest and reputation instead of the club.

Rodgers: Why Emre's influence will grow
    27th Dec 2014 - Latest News

Brendan Rodgers predicts Emre Can will have a substantial role to play in the remainder of Liverpool's 2014-15 season and indeed an even brighter future at the club after his assured cameo showing at Burnley on Boxing Day.

The 20-year-old was introduced as a half-time substitute at Turf Moor, replacing Kolo Toure and being deployed in a role on the right of the Reds' three-man central defence.

It was only his 10th outing since his summer switch from Bayer Leverkusen, and despite playing most of his previous nine appearances in a midfield berth, Can slotted seamlessly into the visitors' backline as they secured a vital 1-0 win.

Rodgers felt the German U21 international's impact was a key factor in the victory, and is confident his influence will continue to grow over the second half of the campaign - particularly given the No.23's versatility.

Speaking to journalists at Melwood, the manager said: "He played centre-half in one of the games I took in last year when I went to see him. He played there in a 4-2-3-1.

"He's got a big future here, Emre. It's just been curtailed a little bit from the summer when he was trying to gain his fitness and he was injured - he had an ankle issue that made him miss training and he was in and out.

"He's got great athleticism and you saw his presence on the pitch [at Burnley]. He is an outstanding footballer and is a very, very young player who is just acclimatising to the game here.

"His favoured position is more of a defensive player, even though I've played him in an attacking role because I think that's something he can do more of. But if you asked him his profile, he likes to be in that sitting role where he can play and dictate the game as well as be physical in the challenge and duels.

"I thought he came on and was outstanding [at Burnley]. We needed to build the ball better, our possession wasn't so good and we lost the ball too quickly, which didn't give us a chance to get into good positions on the field in order to keep the ball.

"Him coming on gave us that assurance in possession and also physicality when we didn't have the ball.

"He's a player I know can play in a number of positions and play them well. He's someone whose influence will become greater as the season goes on."

Meanwhile, Rodgers also had words of praise for the roles his attacking quartet played in securing Liverpool's three points against Burnley.

Raheem Sterling struck the game's decisive blow, netting on 62 minutes to settle the contest with his third goal in as many matches; however, the strike was crafted by a magnificent piece of play by Philippe Coutinho.

Rodgers was delighted with the manner in which the duo, as well as Adam Lallana, linked up - and was also pleased with Rickie Lambert's contribution after he entered the clash as a late substitute.

"Adam and Phil are playing in that little role [behind the striker], which suits them perfectly," said the boss.

"They've got wonderful feet and so they are very good in tight spaces. The key is the work-rate, as well - they press the ball well and work very, very hard.

"Raheem and anyone with that type of pace will always stretch teams and always make defenders think.

"He's a different type - he's not your natural No.9, but for me it's more about the position rather than the player for the team to function well. That pace in the team is very important for us.

"Rickie Lambert was important for us when he came on at Burnley. He could hold the ball up in that period of the game when we needed it, so it's good to have the options to be able to put in that role."

From my observation so far, players willing n can press with conviction and intensity are,
    Sterling
    Coutinho
    Lallana
    Henderson
    Lucas
    Allen
    Can (maybe)

Players who don't press with intensity,
    Gerrard
    Markovic!!
    Balo
    Lambert

I miss Gerrard's hard tackles that used to earn him yellow or red cards.

when sakho passes, he bends his body abit. it gives me a feeling that he is slipping. I rate him 6.5 based on his performance agst Burnley. His positioning can be improved and i hope we are building a team for the future and not playing youngsters to attract better transfer value in Jan; Can, Sakho, Markovic...

Is Flanagan injured? I thought he was a tenacious defender last season and remembered his performance agst Man City.

How does Moyes know that Can will play in that match for him to come and watch? Or it's all arranged?

Moyes just came home for Xmas lah and he wanted to watch a game

of real football so he came to watch Liverpool.

Can was on the bench and not guarantee that he will even play.

death by football need all players to be comfortable on the ball. and All need to know where to pass next even before receiving the ball.

yet he sold the defence most comfy ball player and the GK / Sweeper

    Thats exactly right.

Agger was the best ball playing defender

and Reina was a keeper who is very comfy dribbling.

If u r BR, will you sell both Balo and Borini in January?

I will... cos Sterling is playing striker while 3 strikers are watching from the touch line

if BR sell Balo and Borini a loss => just show what an idiot he is.

Balo was golden boy in 2010 or 2011, is he that bad? simply put, he dunno what is available to him and keep wanting to go back to his cb death by football thingy. and some how he alienates the players who are most suited to his preferred system. what a joke of a manager. the bigger joke is he is managing the club i love.

Borini got himself frozen out then get sent off. he reminds me of Joe Cole whose career did not start off at Pool even he's pool player for 3 seasons?

    Thats why shld sell...

I think BR dying to sell Borini... and even agreed on a fee with Sunderland but Borini probably wanted to play UCL

As for Balo, I am sure he can fit in a 3-5-2 formation partnered with Sturridge or Sterling or Borini

Liverpoolare readying a 15m double January swoop forAston Villas Fabian Delph and Ron Vlaar, according to reports from theDaily Star.

The Villa Park duo are both entering the final six months of their respective contracts with the Midlands side, and neither have yet made any major suggestions that theyre ready to commit to the club.

Manager Paul Lambert has revealed that he has no plans to cash onto the pair, but losing them both for free would represent terrible business for the Claret and Blues, which has alerted Liverpool chief Brendan Rodgers.

    Hope it happens

Can is tipped to make a return to starting line-up against Swansea.

Who do you think he will replace?

    Toure in central defence?
    SG or Lucas in CM?

Or maybe switching Markovic to the right and let Henderson drift centre while Can takes the left?

From my observation so far, players willing n can press with conviction and intensity are,
    Sterling
    Coutinho
    Lallana
    Henderson
    Lucas
    Allen
    Can (maybe)

Players who don't press with intensity,
    Gerrard
    Markovic!!
    Balo
    Lambert

I miss Gerrard's hard tackles that used to earn him yellow or red cards.

not bad two player he bought.

Definitely can must be given lots of playing time to develop..

He is a prodigy from bayern Munich.. Super versatile..

Plays defense n mf.. Actually bm sell him to leverkusen with buy back clause...

But we bought him through a loop hole.. Iirc, bm were grooming him to takeover schweinstier...

And 3421, e wing backs need to be pacy.. What better players then Moreno n manquillo to use.. Lol..

Even in fifa, I will put these 2players into e lineup

A solid performance at home. It's been a while since we scored 4.
Back to back wins putting us on course for a decent lift up the table.
The movement, fluency and passing appears to be there, all the more impressive during this hectic Christmas/New Year period.
Felt that the "few" rotations helped freshen things up a bit, which should be the way due to the fixture congestion, plus we do have a decently sized squad now.
Still need to tighten up our defensive approach though.
Next up is away to Leicester.
Hopefully our second half of this season can be kickstarted with this.

the hint has been there many games back. he just either cant see it, or don hv the balls to drop gerrard w/o any reason.

i guess all can see how fluid pool's attack was. movement fm defence to attack was quick n direct. lucas n henderson in the middle were the boss. can see that henderson was really enjoying himself in the middle, compared to being thrown as a wingback. but with games coming fast n furious, rodgers will sure hv a reason to "rest" a player on form for the old uncle.
