I believe the major reasonpower is not their top priority,

but they still want to enjoy reputed Subaru AWD, Boxer engine with 10k cheaper,

honestly speaking, FXT attracted me by itspower/AWD/Boxer engine and 5 stars safety rating, [thumbsup]

otherwise I will choose Vezel, QQ, Xtrail, Harrier, which have much better interior and equipments

This is the exact reason i booked FXT.

The same reasons why I bought the XT too. The power must be there when I need it. Furthermore, price wise acceptable.

    More importantly, better FC.
Want a smoothly ride and is less firm and bumpy.
    Don't need X-mode function.

I think the optionthat saved the 2.0i is having most options as the XT, esp the sunroof. So it's only down to whether you need such powerful engine.

It's akin to Swift and Swift Sport.

    Nice move there Subaru.

Thanks for sharing, really appreciate that!
But I thought it is AWD and heavy body contributes more on FC, not turbo especially in SG road.

Hey Pocus, understand that you have a quote of about 1.3k for the inhouse AIG insurance. Do you know what the excess is?

I asked the SE and he quoted me 1.4k excess which is quite shocking to me. Not sure if this is normal.

    TIA.

not sure anyone responded to your query.

"excess" mean when you do a own claim, you need to fork out say, $1.4k before any repair can be made.

if your repair amount to 10k, you need to fork out 1.4k and the rest the insurance will take care of it.

If your repair cost like bumper scratch is 500, it make no sense to self claim and further more, 30% of NCD will be written off once you claim it.

Exactly. So basically the higher your excess, the higher your liability in the event of an accident caused by oneself. My understanding is that some of us adjust the excess amount to our own comfort level. Usually when excess goes up, premium comes down, vice versa.

I'm asking how come given such a high excess value, the premium is still so high. Not sure if the excess quoted (not premium) given my the SE is salah.

So I wanted to find out from the bros here who booked if the excess quoted by the in-house AIG insurance is similar..

highlighted in red is not relevant.

high excess is related to premium. There are people that gamble on lower premium but with high excess.

What i mean by liability is the excess we have to pay in the event of self-claim. Anyway, i understand what you are trying to say, let's not debate on the technicalities. :D

Back on the excess. So high excess rightly leads to lower insurance yearly premium. For my case, it feels like a double whammy leh, high premium and high excess. [shocked][shocked][shocked]

    Ah okay, thanks for confirming!

If I do not want to take up the inhouse AIG insurance, understand that there's a $300 increase in car price.

I may be exploring that option. look see look see...

Even though I have not make up my mind which color, In my opinion white is easier to take care as not obvious for scratches. Dust can be seen on black too.
The only color I feel striking is white the rest too dull compare to the color other brand has to offer...too bad...

Just take note not everything may be relevant to our rides.

For instance, I was told we do not have passenger seatbelt detention. We also do not have childseat detection for front passenger seat so that it will disable the airbag.

Bummer for me. I always want to put my childseat in front.

Chose white as it's the one that caught me and my wife's attention when we entered the showroom.

Near my office, there's dark grey, black, red and blue (all foresters) but no whites!

    Other reasons:

    • CO insisted on this colour though i'm the one that does the cleaning and maintenance
    • White is slightly cooler in the sun
    • Good visibility to other road users in the dark
    • Not a "loud" colour
    • Current ride is black, want a change
    • It looks good on forester, even better with a little cosmetic upgrade

    BUT

    • It turns yellowish over time
    • Its hard to bring out the colour's depth even with very good detailing(waxing/polishing) when compared to a black/dark car
    • Common on the road

Great list~ I think white looks great on the forester too. *biased view* :)

Before going down to the showroom, my missus and I actually thought the red looked quite good. This is based on the 360 view on subaru's website. After going down and seeing the panel colour display, we realised it was a tad too dark for our liking. In the end we chose white.

Currently driving a pearl white now (some say "off-white" lol ). Not an expert in car detailing, but it's not too difficult to maintain i must say. Modern paint work on cars are quite good. It can really take some abuse and not degrade too bad. Easy to restore also.

LOL, I feel that complaining a car too powerful is like complaining one have too much money.

She don't have to floor the pedal to use all the power, in fact all she now have to do is to tap it lightly.Let theCVT do it job, the car will still move smoothly like a normal car.

    Remember this:

In terms of power, the XT can drive like a Qashqai, but a Qashqai can never drive like an XT.

In Japan the satin white paint is an optional extra. I think because it requires 1 layer more than the other colours. Here is in Singapore it is the same price ;)

Downside is when it rains the car gets dirty - need a bit more looking after than colours like silver. Also, I find the metal body is easy to clean, but the the white bumper is harder to wash the dirt off. Not very noticable, but if you look closely the grey stains from the rain tend to soak in.

Guys, anyone know what is STI model? The front grill looks nice, any way to modify the FXT into this?

Sexually Transmitted Infection Forester. Sports grille about 600 SGD, you can vinyl wrap or plasti diip to achieve the same effect for < $100.

Check out this vid. This guy added quite a number of things onto his ride to make it more STI-like and JDM-ish.

Also there's this subaru forester forum (subaruforester.org), it's a forum dedicated to forester and has an international community. Truckloads full of poisons/ideas that you can do to the car in there. Beware! Having said there, a lot of technical sharing and diy tips too.

    Have fun!

Those who test-drive the Forester XT; how is the actual econ? 9km/l?

Does it require 98 RON or 95 RON?

Then also, I been wondering, Subaru insurance usually higher, or is this a false info I've been given?

Guys, anyone know what is STI model? The front grill looks nice, any way to modify the FXT into this?

Now MotorImage offers the so-called "Black-Edition" FXT for $5k extra. Has this same grille and some more STI garnishes like a rear under-diffuser, carbon interior trim and alcantara+leather STI badged seats from the factory.

    RON 95 can.

insurance I think only the WRX and STI will have higher insurance, it's already proven that Forester owner's insurance are within normal range.

Whew. False alarm then. Because an extra 10/?, adds up to maybe $5 extra if i always pump at half-tank, so it's $5/week, $20/month, adds up...!!!!

Other thing I'm wondering about... this car, got puddle lamps, footwell lighting/ambience lighting? What about the rear sensors, does it show you on a display, or can view camera only?

When I ask them can install front sensors, they told me can if top up, but when I ask them how can I tell whether it's front or rear beeping, they say the car will show on the MFD.

Then also ...the headlamps, I know the mainbeam are HID xenon reflectors, but when I went to look up, it seems the high-beam are white-temperature halogen bulbs. Anyone can confirm it's not a full bi-xenon cluster?

Only if you take up the in house insurance plan. Checked with AIG, the excess for this particular model is higher (1.4k). I think Pocus pointed out before that AIG offers 'new for old' replacement in the event if the car is totaled. Probably one of the reasons..

I've asked for a few quotes from other insurers, quotes are lower (900-1.3k), and the excess is normal range. ($0-600).. AIG more branded lo.

Satin white is more whitish, Crystal white is more metallic.

Imho Crystal white is less proned to yellowing due. From far Crystal white will look darker

Plus very curious to know it it has ambience/mood lighting and puddle lamps.

Also, can someone kindly post photograph of the key fob? I saw a picture of it in the user manual (I like to read those when I am particularly interested in a car)... it looks like it came from 2002... :a-no:

So it seems like you are getting the XT after considering so many car.
I think those footwell light, door light are not important. This can be be done outside. Important is a good engine, GB, safety spec......

Now that you guys mentioned, I remember reading about complains of weak braking in the previous generation of Imprezas, especially the 2.0Rs.Many mitigate by replacing the stock rubber brake hose with steel braided hose.

Up to now one of the main points for Forester from my fam is that it's tall, boxy, solid feeling... I have zero doubts it will survive a crash...

But then, I'm one of those few people who never felt safer in a raised up car. Plus, taller cars with higher C.O.G. will be more likely to roll over.

Anyway, that also makes me want to ask you guys, you find the car roll around a lot or not much?

But then now you guys mention the brakes seem weak... that's not reassuring.

Change the rear roll bar to something firmer. Quite a number of wowo owners do that for their xc90 and 60s.

Anyway, that also makes me want to ask you guys, you find the car roll around a lot or not much?

But then now you guys mention the brakes seem weak... that's not reassuring.

Subaru famous boxer engine lower down COG, so not feeling roll around while cornering

Change the rear roll bar to something firmer. Quite a number of wowo owners do that for their xc90 and 60s.

    any recommendation?

The black edition is the addition of the following to the standard trim?

    - STI Front Under Spoiler
    - STI Rear Under Spoiler
    - STI Leather Gear Knob
    - STI Tower Bar
    - Front LED DRL
    - Carbon Fiber Panel
Seems a bit expensive to pay $5k, although some bros was given some discount...

    Forget the black edition.

More useful poison available by Cusco.

    SJG_side_TOP-thumb-300x225-22499.jpg

Take note of the following parts which I felt will help in handling without sacrificing comfort:

    - 697 540 A

    - 692 541 A (but too invasive to boot)

    - 687 492 RS

    - 677 492 RE

    - 692 311 B20

Total price should be cheaper than the BE but you get the effect.

Current ride was on Cusco bars for 7 years, no complains!

    Nice share!

I was reading up a little bit on the brake functionality upgrade. To improve braking performance there are a few things that came up repeatedly,

    1) Upgrade the brake assembly, i.e. disc, calipers, brake pads etc (obvious, but will burn a big hole in the pocket, maybe overkill?)

    2) Changing the stock tires (mixed reviews on the stock bridgestone Dueler tires)

    3) Install a Master cylinder brace (reduces flex on the firewall when stepping on the brakes, giving you a surer feel)

The last of the three option is probably the least expensive and it offers quite a noticeable improvement from what I've read,,, I will probably do more research on the brakes. :D

Our current Forester is the SJ series.

    Forester 2.0: SJ5

The codes will be useful if your are sourcing for parts of ordering from stocklist in the futures. Hope it helps.

Bros, I checked with MI with regards to doing enhancements to my FXT and they told me that they will void the warranties on the car. I am seriously considering to enhance the brake system. Any bros have similar experience?

15:32 talks about braking..seems ok according to the reviewer. Acceleration is top notch, 0-60 mph (0-97km/h) in 6.46 seconds according to their testing. Dunno if it's the same for the sg version of the forester.. should be similar iirc.

Found something interesting! Ever wonder what the feature 'Pin code access' is? Was curious and googled it.

Basically it allows you to lock the keys in the car and later access the car via a series of button presses (trunk button). Why do i want to do that? Previously always have to bring at least the key fob along if i wanna go swimming/jogging. With this feature, I can lock the keys in and unlock the cars without keys when I'm done! Quite a nifty feature!

From the brochure from subaru, the premium and xt both has this feature. Here's a video showing how it works, and how to program it. Enjoy!

Only useful if you intend to boost your turbo to 1.5bar and above. It's suppose to vent gas from the compressor out to the atmosphere, preventing compressor surge.

Our stock dump valve is good enough for the job in stock condition.

There is a dealer here who deals cusco parts, but not sure if they Mark up the price alot. May explore buying online and shipping here instead but will research more once I get my ride.

Forester got any poisons for better fuel consumption anot

    The discussions are getting exciting!

I would agree the stock setup requires a tat more pedal distance before you can feel the bite. Nevertheless www.edmunds.com remarked that the FXT has one of the best braking distance in its class, following may not be apple to apple but gives a gauge:

    • "Forester 2.0XT stopped from 60 mph in 119 feet, a good number for this class"
    • "CX-5 Grand Touring equipped with all-season tires came to a stop from 60 mph in 121 feet, which is a bit better than average for the class"
    • "...all-wheel-drive 2015 Honda CR-V came to a stop from 60 mph in 119 feet, which is a few feet shorter than average for the class"

Coupled with this article www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/brake-faq-mythbusting-why-you-may-not-want-big-brake-upgrade/ I'll leave everything as stock.

Basically mimicking drive mode like i, s and s# modes but in a more extreme way. You can either a save more fuel with their eco mode, or burn more with sports mode.

But if you ask me, ill give it a miss unless the car is sluggish.

I guess ambient temperature plays a part. Try at night you should get slightly faster timing. The launching matters too.

Anyway let's not get carried with the century sprint, it's after all a 1.7tonner with power to weight ratio of about 142
    bhp/tonne.
