2015 Forester 2.0 part 11

Why not? my current drive is 7km/L. Journey to my designation is ~1.5hr(near2nd link)Return another ~1.5hrs. Per trip cost me more than a quarter to 1/3 of my tanks. Not to mention if need to travel to other locations. Besides, I don't use all my petrol before top up. usually a quartertank I top up,

Not all test drive is as per expected. It is either need to wait for very long or no car to test drive. e.g. when I told the SE I want to test drive X-trail, she told me no car atm.

1.5 hours to get from one end of SG to another? I guess the traffic must be that bad. But for a heavy footed kinda driver like yourself... shouldn't it be faster?

I used to drive from my home West side of SG in the morning (jammed at upper bukit timah to AYE, then to CBD), drop my wife off at CBD and then to Tampines for meetings and it does not take me more than an hour.

I wish I can reach at 1 hr but never been able to achieve that. Certain part in Tuas has only 1 lane and is always pack with those heavy vehicle. typically, I am stuck there for around half an hr.

I raise my opinion (critic). Too many ppls comment good (pro) about their prefer model/brand. Ifppls cant take critic (con), only want to listen to good words, how to improve?

Bro, very curious, what car are you driving now?

7km/l is a drinker, sound like some big car.

    Bo lah.

I am neither a subaru fan boy nor earning commission from each forester sold. I don't think FXT is perfect. I don't think anyone who owns a FXT thinks it is perfect.

Most of us just happen to love the power FXT provides and this is probably the best we can get within the 130k bracket. We therefore forgive its weakness like high FC, slightly higher insurance (accordingly to you) and slightly dated interior.

It may not be the best looking SUV in the car park but it is definitely one of the fastest.

Bro, were you at the subaru workshop on last sat afternoon? Coz one of owners also shared that FC is better with S mode in city drive.

Yes Bro, indeed i m that guy at the Sat workshop.
    Nice meeting you.
Are you the owner of the black XT w gold trimming?

Surprised those are "sluggish" cars. I thought the NX is pretty strong output in the turbo? CLA 180 slow feeling I understand, but CLA 200 & B200?[/quote]

Well, i tested most of the cars within the same weekend.
I might hv been a bit harsh, suggesting these cars as sluggish.
But after test driving the FXT, none of those cars come close to FXT's pickup and power.

I find tHe insurance is higher than the rest, I got my existing insurer to quote me. It's 300 more than what I have paying for last 2 years on my car.

Also - aig actually offers competitive rates, cheaper than direct Asia if compare to a similar flexible plan.

Precisely. You can't have everything for 130k. Heck even doubling it to 250k there are still things you won't like. Just go with whatever is important to oneself. The rest have to compromise. Lucky alexa72 is not my boss, I will never be able to please him.
  • 28 September 2015 - 10:14 PM
    wookie_fan

If Alexa72 says "50% of my time are travelling aboard" - then don't have to worry about pumping petrol every 2 to 4 days (as quoted by Alexa72... since not around to fully finished the petrol so fast. :D

For me before buying my FXT, did a bit of research on the cars that fits my needs (less than a week). Go to showroom on sunday (didn't manage to test drive cause my son was cranky already)... so went to test drive on Monday lunch time (Outlander, FXT and HRV* after narrowing it down the cars) and booked my car on tuesday :)

*Testing HRV was to see what the fuss is all about with Vezel/HRV. :)

I tested both recently, u Really cannot compare a real SUV with a "cross over" totally different class la

FXT wins all except for interior thats all.

But i must admit the HRV / Vezel is one of the best choices for CAT A cars.

Nowadays like only old people like to buy new Altis, new Mazda 3 also losing popularity, Civic & Impressa never see

Hmm.. Always feel that the interior of vezel is confusing, design wise. For some reason, the new interior design from honda has no coherence across most model.

I shall go try HRV during their off peak period one of these days. [smash]

HRV and Vezel engine are different. HRV is using SOHC, while Vezel is DOHC.
Power output Vezel is higher and also much better FC.

Civic lost its appeal because of design.

Subaru is still stuck at the high fc mentality for a 1.6 car, no edge over rivals except for the awd which moat people in the sedan cat wouldn't care.

I wouldn't say that fxt interior ia bad. Like it plain n simple. U seen the makan s one? Wah, first look i blur already.

Haha. I have similar thoughts sometimes. If everyone is praising something nonstop I feel I have to come forward and mention the bad points for a change.

For some additional perspective on Forester XT FC, my ride's got nearly identical output figures and I'm getting around 8.2km/l according to trip computer. I'm spending a lot of time on more city-oriented driving however, and there's a lot of hill-climbing for me.

good one. weighing all pros and cons.

we know exactly what the cons are, not that we ignore it like it fun exist but coming to terms with it.

and a lot has to do with driving pattern, self control.

you can buy a fxt and let your old man drive, he should be able to give u 12km/l comfortably.
and when u drive, no matter how hard you try, you might not even smell a 9.

you should see the youtube video collection from thelasthumangarage. he bought a forester for hus wife and installed a booster which will activate when rpm is high. in the end, the prank failed. cos wife never step more ghen 20% on the accelerator.

btw, the wife is driving the forester in s mode full time, and her mileage is still pretty good.

Haha to me - the other biggest pro is that it is only $130K which is very competitive.

if money is not a problem, all of us will have bought landrover /Q5/X5/GL. Super nice interior. Do a search in sg car mart on SUV below 130k / car or cars with 240 bhp. Not many can match the price

yes, there are alot of things which i want forester to have.. but base on the $130 price tag its value for money

If you don't need the power, stick to NA for better reliability and FC.

Seriously you only buy the XT for the engine. If they offered the same 240hp boxer on QQ/CX5/x-trail etc for the same price, no one will look at the forester.

Please don't over-recommend the forester to everyone, the SE lurking in the forum will think their cars damn good-selling and up the price [laugh]

Not just that lah. There are those who will buy the non-turbo forester. For me, main consideration is safety. Their cars have performed very well in crash tests since many years ago. Now with 7 airbags and ESP, it's as safe as you can get. Of course there is no EyeSight etc but it's still among the safest you can get in SG. Even the entry XV have full airbags/ESP. Compare that with entry level toyotas.

Subaru of America, Inc. announced today that all seven 2015 Subaru models; the Legacy, Outback, Forester, BRZ, WRX/STI, Impreza and XV Crosstrek, have earned 2015 Top Safety Pick awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Subaru is the only manufacturer with IIHS Top Safety Picks for all models for six years running (2010-2015).

Together with AWD and X-mode, you get some semblance of a true off-roader.

Actually the turbo with CVT is nothing to shout about. I think it's quite over-rated and overkill for normal driving.

sometimes you really need that power to get pass others, esp when they are driving dangerously, esp the big ones.

Ordered my Forester XT White with red leather last saturday.

Now waiting for bidding and also the stock to arrive... they got some stupid policy for car colors with no ready stock, need to pay $1000 extra premium... but having drive a black cars for my last 2 ride. Really wanted a White Red combo.

Test drive the forester, maybe i didnt slam the accelerator, the power or pull not as obvious as i imagined although the speedo meter reached 100km/h before i even realise it.

Suspension abit bouncy compared to my current ride. could be typical of SUV. Overall for the $130k bracket, nothing come close if your focus is on the AWD and Power, other requirements have to take a back seat.

Actually to those who said that Subaru interior now is very jialat... they probably never driven subaru during the 2002-2007 era. My old subaru rex then inside really is damn jialat, imagine the digital clock with those green light backing type...

Some nice features i liked include the sunroof, auto boot release (in harrier you do not even get this feature until you top up and top up for the higher range) and also the CVT Chain Gearbox.

Last 2 cars are Rex, Alfa 159 and now Forester due to family requirement. i think i have come full circle back to the subaru family. My 3rd subaru if counting the old forester i bought for my dad. The AWD really is something i came to like.

Hope the car come soon =)

I found the XV's doors feels heavier and sturdier than Forester. Regardless of this, I find the sound insulation in the cabin is good with my few rounds of test drive. The doors also close with a firm thud. But sometimes, the good things from test drive can turn out to be the opposite after owning the car. But so far I didnt pick up anyone complaining about the cabin is noisy. Am I right?

Forester is still using the outdated black and white display panel between the odometers. The rest of Subaru's cars are having the newer colour LCD panel that display information like which door is not close, etc. My guess is that the next facelift will bring Forester on par with the rest of their cars. Maybe the door will also feel heavier and sturdier? But I cant wait for the 2016 Forester. Need a car soon.

Its the XV that lured me to MotorImage, not Forester, haha. But I bought the Forester after test drive.

I went Leng Kee to see the Teana and end up buying Forester.

First 1000 km FC is about 7.2km/litre.

Yes, leaked photo already shown the fuel guage and trip indicator to colored for the 2016 Facelift. The steering wheel is also different. The exterior of the facelift will include new rim design new headlamp designs with bi-xenon projectors instead of HID reflectors. You can check the video a few pages back.

there is only 63 pages. if you just read through the last 20 page, I am sure you will be able to getmost if not allthe answers.

Let me start for you. Average FC depends on a lot of things. generally, most shared that its ranges from 8-10 l/km mostly, with some achieving slightly better.

    indicatively...

    Average FC: 7.2 - 11.5

Freebies gotten: Car mats, solar film ( heard lousy quality) and front Cam ( think quite rare)

Anyone kena the $1000 for indent colours? Yes , think 1 reported case here

Just to share... when I got my XV earlier this year (previous version not the new one), I managed to bargain $1k off price and pay $200 for top up to upgrade to pioneer touch screen, GPS and reverse cam.

I know of others who managed to get free change of leather seats to other colors and small acessories like boot trays, visors and rear bumper guard.

They gave me free blackvue front cam as there was a promo going so I didn't need to bargain for that.

I feel they are less negotiable on weekends where there tend to be more people willing to sign...

i think 1st ask yourself, assuming 100% city driving, are you comfortable with 8km / l considering the bhp.

In the showroom, we also didnt get the boot to work. I think the reason is because many pple play with the switch.

    1) In short, to use the auto boot, press the button and let go - it will open by itself. To use manual, press and hold it for a few second.

    2) Yes the height of the boot can be fixed to a certain height. You need to press the button in the drivers seat (to permanently enable it), and set the height. Subsequently, once the boot open it will be that height. To disable it, press the button again to disable it.

If the auto closing of the boot doesn't work for whatever reason, just close it manually. Similarly, the auto boot can open manually as well. Just press and hold the boot open button for 2-3 secs.

    Maybe you can try this.

    Turn off your boot memory.

Manually open the boot by pressing down 3-4 secs.

then manually close your boot slowly until you hear a first click (boot is catch) and let go.

You should hear and see the boot closes further and lock.

Then try the auto open and auto close.

    facelift price increase?

Facelift version supposed to also have torque vectoring.. if available in SG, this would make the FXT even more nimble!

As with all things new, FL will be usually higher and out-going model a little cheaper.

It looks 'naked' without the roof racks (even though I doubt most people will need them).

Projector headlamps is an improvement (more upmarket, though I am always surprised how good the reflector lamps are - still HID).

    Thanks for the pix!

This pix looks funny. I normally put my right foot somewhere in between the accelerator and the break. Wouldn't the part that is edging out gets in the way? [;)]

Go buy Kia, just K3 will already give you aircon seat...
Subaru are for someone who appreciate the drive.

Looks like the 2016 FXT will get it.

Subaru has also fiddled with the SUVs suspension settings, reduced the steering-gear ratio from 15.5:1 to 14.0:, and added active torque vectoring for turbocharged models.

    Kinda useless in Singapore anyway.

From Japan Subaru website it mentioned that the new Forester (likely non-turbo version) would be having a FC of 15.2 km/l. That figure looks much better than the FC shown on sgCarMart. Is there an improvement to the engine also?

Secured the COE... now waiting for delivery expected in 1-2 weeks time. Car likely to reach by next week.

Excited about it. shall stop reading about the FL that is upcoming =( and enjoy the new ride =)

Can i check if any one retune the ECU to get higher horse without accompanying mode? worth the money? Secondly will MI detect it?

Was told that the engine could have been around 280 HP but detuned for local fuel 95 purpose. If i always pump 98/v power, possible to uptune it?

    Thanks for sharing

Sunroofs and roofrails are optionalforJDM Forester XTs.

As for the export version, expect them tobe standard.

The new headlamps are a great improvement to the look.

The current JDM lamps are abit different from export lamps.

JDM lamps have 2 tone masking which makes it sportier. Export one are pure chrome.

Let's hope the FL lamps we get are the same.

coming from a car without sun roof, having the sunroof is definitely nice to have... Not opening the roof at all but the car without the sunshade is bright and nice to drive.

It comes standard for the forester XT in Singapore, so already factor in.. Not as if it's an extra option that will cost extra 3k.. No option at all to reduce price

When you pull back the roof cover, it may be bright for the cabin but it also means people can see what you are doing inside clearly too.

its good to have but will need to get used to.. My brother has a Mazda CX-5 2.5 that have this function.. Driving on a total darkeness roads overseas quite irritating to me.. Bec the light beam keep moving and it's always moving up and down if not left and right from the opposite cars' beam.

Actually no need to go for guaranteed COE.

The trend so far is that they will get the COE for u with the 1st 2 bids. Most of the current owners have the same experience.
