2013 Forester consecutively award the best Compact SUV in USA?
it's only Conti performance Japanese SUV, TC Boxer engine, Symmetrical AWD, unfortunatelyits OMV too low less than 20k
Waiting patiently for the facelift Impreza to arrive in July, or legacy in April this year.
am looking for a simple reliable and safe car; Subaru is my top choice.

which is rather strange. the XV has a higher OMV than the non turbo forester. anyone knows why?

also, low OMV means that Subaru is able to manufacture such a high quality product cheaply? why can they do so when other makes can't do it?

I think Subaru most experience on TC engine, but no experience on NA engine, so XV hashigher manufacture cost
but i'm comparing it with the non TC 2.0l engine of forester, still XV is 16k+ vs 14k+ for that 2.0l forester.

Hi Bros,

Just a Q to ask,

what is the current scrap value after 10 years of drive based on (no more 55%) ?

Dep per year is getting higher higher this days.

u mean for forester XT or 2.0il?

depends on purchase price. for the 2.0il, there was a good deal before the last coe, 122,800, depreciation would have been 11.5k. at the 129,800, its 12.2k. for the forester xt at 137,800, annual depreciation is around 12.9k, close to 13k already.

the only good thing of a low OMV is that after 10 years, can consider renewing if the car really can last. haha.

the facelifted impreza in july would likely cost more? it would be affected by the CEVS rebate?
Looking at Subaru pricing strategy, which is almost double that of altis or camry ($8,000 to $10,000 gross profit per car), Impreza will never come cheap given tan chong has other volume seller nissan to support its earnings base.

if i remember correctly, the impreza was sold at 99.8k 2 weeks back before the coe jumped.
if only forester is made using legacy chassis .. will be more spacious..
I understand that the face lifted Forester is coming. Price seems steep though, $134,800 for basic version.
I am exploring the Forester 2.0 non-turbo version.
Hope to hear existing owner on the good and bad for this car.
Thanks.
got this from AD the other day.

2.0(A) - $128,800
20.XT(A) (2015) - $141,800

Things to note for the Forester.
1. AWD - higher fuel & maintenance costs
2. CVT - Helps to mitigate fuel costs.. but driving dynamics different.
heard this subaru CVT gb is an all new experience , not those type of mundane CVT in action

better go for TC one, I tested driveonce, quite aggressive engine and responsive CVT gb, especially at Sport S# mode
but if you care FC, and maintenance cost, think twice
Comparing FC against other sedans, or other SUVs ? Cannot set the same expectations for SUVs.

compare other SUVs, because Subaru is the only Japanese automakermore care performance rather than fuel efficiency,
and it leads in AWD, boxer engine forcornering and off road
Yes. The SE told me that also.heard this subaru CVT gb is an all new experience , not those type of mundane CVT in action
Personally tested the non turbo version twice.
I like the handling but worry on maintenance.
However the SE told me that the AD provide 5 years FOC servicing.
Not sure if there is any other hiden cost
and permanent AWD too.
"reasonable performance" means you never driven a TC car before.

I test drove almost all the SUVs available in Sg, except the koreans and a couple of contis.... Hyundai and Kia will never be under my list, and some contis are too expensive for me too.

I like XT the most after all the test drive. I am fine with the 18k OMV for XT, as long as I enjoy driving it will do. I am fine with the interior too cos it is simple and plain looking (I hate complicated looking design)... My current car left about 2 years, not sure if I wanna change it now or change it 2 years later.

Another thing that I like about this car is the horsepower, torque, and the AWD. FC doesn't matter to me if I plan to get a SUV.... If anyone thinks that FC is a major issue, it is best not to get a SUV at all.

So, it is an acquired taste for the Subaru buyers, either you like the car and its features or you hate it.

This is my 2nd Subaru, my experience has been a positive one so far. Especially the current models with the lineartronic CVT. I find it a better drivetrain compare to the auto box used in the previous Forester model.

11 June 2015 - 04:22 PMUmaRuddChiaI'm horribly disappointed with Subaru service centre in tao Payoh. Bought a service package and have been using them for past six years but I feel I got conned the last two rounds! From two services back I noticed my a knocking whenever I change gear and all the lights on my dash board for oil and coolant etc blinking like crazy. My husband who takes the car for servicing asked the service guys to look into it. The guy said he checked everything and the problem was the cars old and needs to be changed. It's a problem with the gear box and we need $5000 to replace it!! Since the car was already six years old we didn't think the change was necessary. Problem persisted through to second service ... Still not solved . Been driving a car with blinking dashboard lights n engine knocking constantly on low gear.., for more than six months because I trusted these guys!!! Last night I decided to check my car myself n found the coolant was dry the engine oil was empty ... There's no leak --- these guys just didn't refill them at the last service!! I paid for a disservice!! I refilled it myself last night n guess what -- no more knocking feel no more blinking lights.. I want my money for the last two services back n I feel I was being lied to just so they could upsell more things to me.. It's called cheating!! #conjob #badservice #subarusucks

No offense.. But shouldn't you be checking your engine oil and coolant level, among afew others, on a weekly-basis? Or maybe fortnightly? I mean, its like basic pre-drive checks, once in awhile, but definitely not once in 6 months..

But driving 6 months on with a near empty coolant tank and engine oil, wouldn't it do some irreversible damage to the engine? Not sure, just speculating.

12 June 2015 - 09:42 AMWhitemondeoI am exploring the Forester 2.0 non-turbo version.
Hope to hear existing owner on the good and bad for this car.
Thanks.I am driving a Forester XT for the pass 9 months (bought new) and enjoying every min of it. Prior to the Forester, was driving Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo. Hence, did not consider the non-turbo version. If were to compare base on the same capacity and power, the Forester seem to perform better in term of power, comfort and fuel consumption. (Both are stock)

Tested the BMW X1, Mazda C5 2.0 and 2.5l. Quite like the X1 and the performance and feel came close to my Airtrek and Forester. But wasnt prepared to fork out over 200K for it. Also, not used to the start-stop function on the X1 and C5. Hence, decided to go with Forester.

Three minor issues I feel uncomfortable are: -
1) Power rear gate is slightly retard,
2) Air conditioning temp has to set below 21 degree to prevent recirulate vent opening once the temp reach around 24~25 degree programmed under factory setting.
3) Auto head light too sensitive.

Managed to clock an avg of 12.5km/l (90% highway) with occasional spirit driving. Which is almost similar to my wifes Altis.

Running on Caltex 95 since day one on intelligence or "I" mode. The "I" is most economical and the power is almost similar to Airtrek's power. Hence, hardly use the "sport" or "sport #" mode.
12 June 2015 - 12:23 PMAcieedOn highway it is possible, though I think the best I ever got on SH9XT was 11.4km/L. The new SJ ones should be better.

2) That happens with my new forester as well as my old legacy. What I discovered is that if you press the recirculate button twice, it will not switch to 'outside-air' mode.
3) On the contrary, I find it not sensitive enough. I based my observation on comparison with other cars which have auto headlight and I realized it always switches on later under the same condition as compared to other makes, e.g. Toyota/Lexus. For e.g. when you pass under a bridge or into the tunnel it will tend to switch on slower than most other cars with auto-headlight. Anyway I believe it is mentioned in the manual this setting can be changed with a visit to the AD.

Jin drama and jin exggerated. Those old cars leaking engine oil and coolant will stall all over Singapore roads if it were to happen the way you described it.

The car's engine isn't filled to the brim with engine oil. If you look at the oil dipstick you will realise how far deep you have to insert it into the engine to read that few inches of indication it's "max". Engine oil is primarily lubrication. Even if it's empty there will be residual oil and some left in the oil sump. If there isn't enough coolant I'm not so worried. If the radiator fan isn't working that's actually more worrying when it comes to overheating. With minimum level of coolant the engine can still be sufficiently cooled. The max. and min. level are just a range But ppl kick up a big fuss when it hits min. level as if it's totally empty. Same with engine oil, at min. level it doesn't mean it's empty.

Prease, for all those making comments. Prease know the difference between min. level and totally empty for crying out loud.

I suspect being a Subaru and a turbo has some part to play in the premium as well.
26 June 2015 - 07:00 AMChucky2007What's the price offering for the XT now? And it comes with 5 years free servicing?
26 June 2015 - 07:48 AMPalmerSeems that after the recent dip in Cat B COE, the old price of the Forester still holds.

Very very subjective.. haha. chasing audio-nirvana must have deep deep pockets.

IMO, enjoy the XT exhaust better.. that's why you consider the XT right?
I've had an XT overtaking me with barely a warble from its exhaust haha. Hvn't test drive yet, only seen it at roadshows. Am currently driving a Lancer GT with Rockford Fosgate sound system so was wondering if the H/K on the XT is better.

There is Outback for you if you are looking for bigger space.
03 July 2015 - 06:25 PMPocusI understand that the face lifted Forester is coming. Price seems steep though, $134,800 for basic version.
Considering it as a true SUV with AWD and 2.0 engine, it's priced pretty right. Please don't lump it with other cheaper models like Vezel, Juke or Qasqhai cos when you look at their specs they are basically normal cars pretending to look like SUVs. That's what the Subaru XV is for.

03 July 2015 - 07:42 PMdb597I have the 2.0 XT, the positives:
- Engine performance is in a different league compared to the CRV / CX5 / RAV4 / Qashqai. Stomp down on the accelerator and you'll feel the G forces pressing you into your seat.
- The CVT is also really well implemented, unlike some automatic transmissions where you have a split second lag as it hunts for the right gear. I find the CVT's power to be immediate with no hesitation.
- Grip from the AWD is really noticeable too when exiting the PIE/AYE at 90km/h going up a curved ramp. The car just sticks to the road with confidence.
- Spacious airy interior with great all round visibility in all directions.

The neutral points:
- I average around 9.5km/l in Singapore traffic. This is a real tried and tested figure after 5,000km, not the optimistic figures the showrooms quote. It's no fuel sipper, but much better than previous generation Subarus.

On the downside:
- Road noise is more than I am used to from my Honda Accord (1 generation ago).
- More thought could have been given to interior design. The fit and finish is ok but rather utilitarian and with a bit of rattling too. Wish it would autolock doors if you park the car and leave it for a while. Just not enough attention to detail.
- Suspension is a bit too bouncy. I don't mind firm shocks, but the way it oscillates is annoying. Though this could be changed with a coilover or STI springs.
