Just got a new set of shoes for my ride!! part 1

  • 06 October 2005 - 09:41 PM
    Mazda323
today just went to the tyre shop to get a set of 2nd hand tyre and tat guy offered me this rim and tyre combo at $100 so i agreed and took the deal..

my ride is a 1982 Mazda 323 and my tyre was 175/70/R13, this tyre tat came with the rim was 165/60/R13.

is there any difference in car performance with the wheel diff?? this current wheel look so much smaller den the previous one...

below i've upload some of the pics of my ride's new shoes

first pic is the old rim still on my ride where the "new" rim is lying nicely on the floor

second pic is after the full set of rim changed..

Of cource the new tyre looks smaller, cos its approx. 8.18% smaller in overall diameter than your original tyre.

    175/70 R14 = Overall diameter of 575.05 mm
    165/60 R13 = Overall diameter of 528.06 mm

You do know that 165/60 R13 tyre size are not common for cars?

    Mazda323
unsure.gif !! really?? i keep telling tat man tat the tyre is smaller den my orginal one...den he say ya yur car orginal tyre is only 155/55/R13 only...

he say the previous rim was not even mazda orginal..itz taken from mitsubishi de...

well i dunno whether he said is true anot as this ride my dad got is a 2nd hand...and when it came itz already like that *as in pic 1, and btw the tyre has spary paint marks on it..guess they touch up the rim's paint with the tyre on..so is there any way to get rid of the colour?? looks kinda toot with the colour on the wheel

but after changing to this tyre the car feels alot lighter while driving and the steering wheel is lighter too...so izzit ok for my car to haf this tyre? i also dam scare to drive fast coz the tyre so small scare drive halfway the tyre blow!!

Wow! $100 for 4 pcs tire & sport rims. thumbsup.gif How new is the tire?

BTW, since it's so cheap, u better test the rims & tires for vibrations first. Also check that the tires r not "reject" tires that failed QC.

If they pass these tests, U got a damm good deal there. thumbsup.gif

Since the size is a little small, u might want to upsize to the original 175/70/13 when u change your tires next time. For the time being, remember that your speedo & odometer will show slightly faster & longer readings. The up-side is u sud have more power. shocked.gif

I'm not sure the original tyre size for your car, but perhaps you can try to search for some info from the net? Sometime can find your original tyre size from those tyre website, where you enter your car make, model, year, and you can get the info.....

Is yours manual or auto transmission? IMHO (I could be wrong), I think auto transmission cars are more sensitive to correct tyre size than manual ones. Basically the recommended difference is within 3% of your original tyre diameter.

    Check out this link: http://www.1010tires...eels#plussizing

What an antique! How do you keep it running? The 323 of old is quite legendary for its longevity rivalling K Corollas.

haha how to keep it running?? well tat i dunno...ask my parents..all along they are the one maintaining the car...as i just got my licences 2 yrs ago...

thou we bought this car on 2001 and extended the coe till next year

More power is normal as the dia is now smaller.

Why u change tires & rims if u gonna scrap it soon??? Just get cheap "trade-in" tires for about $10 ea & use till u scrap.

I remember the Mazda 323 well as a friend used to drive one long ago. Not a bad car as it's quite spacious & easy to maintain. The 323GT was a real killer at that time.

Rust was a problem though. Yours seems to have no rust at all. Very well maintained on that aspec. Pity to see it go as it's quite a classic.

Mine is a 89 AT171 corona cd which is still in very good condition & I might try to keep it for as long as possible & see how long b4 it gets scrapped.
  • 06 October 2005 - 10:29 PM
    Mazda323
ask le..tat guy charge me trade in tyre about 20 each...so if change all 4 itz about 80
so he offered this for 100 so i thought this would be better...

well u say no rust?? there are some la..and not very big patches...but the paint work sux...my dad respary the car himself using those can spary...look dam sucky....and yur yur corona is a 1991 one rite?? when coe finishing?
  • 06 October 2005 - 10:42 PM

OK so if $80 versus $100 for tires plus rims, it's very good deal. Maybe u can sell the rims b4 u scrap the car.Get $20 then they cost u nothing in the end. wink.gif

My car is 1989. COE expires in 4/2009. Might extend but have not decided yet. Must see the COE when the time gets closer.

If I renew coe, i'll spend some $$$ to do it up nicely to last the length of the coe. Only prob is maybe difficult to get spare parts when it gets more than 20 years old.

How did u manage to get spare parts for your 82 car? Malaysia?

icic...hm..still wanna renew?? now coe so cheap..hee laugh.gif eh nope the spare parts is my mech get from his fren's shop somewhere near town...always call him wad spoil just call him and he'll order the parts and he'll collect it..den i just drive there and get it changed...

Oh. So still can get spares for a >20 yo jap car. Hope mine is the same.

I went to junk yard to get parking lights after someone hit mine & broke it. They told me not much spares going to bring in for >15 yo jap cars as not much demand as most have been scrapped.

I more concerned about body parts. Engine parts they sud still have as many r compatable with newer cars.

I consider to renew coe as if it drops to $10K, just think. My car's depreciation will only b $1k per year. Unbelieveable.

Where to find a car as transport which costs only $1k per year. Will be much more cheaper than public transport.

Previously doing servicing at Stamford Tyre, so the in-house mineral oil is Havoline 20W50. Not bad oil but a bit thick, even for my old car. Change oil every 5k km.

Now using Mobil Delvac MX 15W40, better than the 20W50 I've been using. Slightly better acceleration and FC. This is a HDEO, which was recommended by Genie47. Rather strong additive and detergent in this oil, and I'll go with this one for 3 oil change and consider this as a 'oil flush' for my engine. According to Genie, its good for 10k km but I'm replacing it every 5k ~ 6k interval.

Bought 2 bottles of cxxxxxe 5W40 recently, and will be switching over sometime early next year.

Delvac MX 15W40 should be safe for your engine. But be aware that its HDEO, meaning that its suitable for both diesel and petrol engine. Since got robust additive and detergent, it should gives a gently clean up of your engine - safer than those engine flush.

Is that oil fleet oil? Meaning its suitable for both diesel and petrol engine. Look out for API grading of SJ, SL or SM on the bottle. If have then it should be safe for petrol engine.

Your FC is bad bcos yr engine is badly worn. If your oil can burn up till empty, the only way to save it is with a complete overhaul. Many other things cud need attention too. Like the gearbox, bearings, alignment shocks & so forth. All these will contribute to poor FC.

If your car was very well maintained, u sud still b getting a respectful FC.

Yup. He has a spareparts shop in Yew Tee. They also do some pretty good repair work there. The workshop area is at the back of the shop.

U can call him first to check & then go there & they can fix it up for u. For your car, it sud not b expensive. Otherwise just leave it as it is till u scrap the car.

U can just screw on a strap or something for pple to pull the door shut.

If your car runs on leaded, how do u get leaded? SG no more leaded petrol for very long.

To convert to run on unleaded, u just need to change the valve seats to the harder type.

Not too difficult & much cheaper than buying lead additive all the time.

Wah, 4 years buy additive. Most very old cars used to run on lead petrol have softer valve seats as the lead cushions them. Without lead, they will get damaged.

Most ws can do the conversion but in your case, don't waste yr $$$. Maybe convince your dad to buy a 2-3 y.o car but they still quite ex as COE was high then. Look at 1 y.o. cars then. confused.gif

U can consider a new Matrix or Optra 5 , as there quite cheap now. For me I need to change in 3 1/2 years time & there sud b some very cheap 3 1/2 year old cars to choose from then, unless the car price goes up by then, then even the 2nd hand cars will become ex again. thumbsdown.gif

Then all those who bought now wud make $$$ when they sell. sly.gif

Your old coolant prob used up already so the whole bottle is for the whole radiator which is about 5-6 liters (incl what is in the engine block).

Anyway u going to scrap soon.

If your coolant already in the radiator is still fresh, then u have to top up using the mix ratio mentioned on the bottle.

If the last time u changed the coolant was like 1 or 2 years ago, then best if u throughly flush (incl what's in the engine block), then fill with the mix ratio as instructions.

If u just want to top up & coolant last changed long long ago, pour whole bottle into radiator of reservoir if u have one. Sud not cause any problems.

Oh, ok then. But if u drive a rental, the last time u fill b4 returning car, u can put in 92 octane as u will save some $$$. laugh.gif

Just a little test. Next time your petrol empty, get a fren to fill up but dont tell u what petrol he use.

    If u can guess correctly for 5 times, I buy u lunch. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

    =============

Can lah. Your car going to scrap soon, so can lah.

Just make sure u dont open the radiator cap if the engine is hot or warm even. You'll burn yourself when the hot water comes gushing out.

    i made that mistake once...ouch!

Hey dude,i ve driven this model a few years back (2002). My ex coy's car. However, the one i drove is a ford laser. Same design, same outlook as your antique here cos mazda and ford same coy! I really miss this car! However, i BLOW the ford engine after 2 months of driving. Coz the water temp gauge faulty and i wack it at high speed until in blow at KJE! suddenly smoke came out of bonnet and lots of noise from the engine block due to the pistons jammed i suppose!

Tow back to machanic and mechanic said - you si beh eh sai! kena suan by him big time. after
that change the engine to a mazda 323 (yours)engine.immediately feel no more power! big time power lost reali. after tt no more wack. until the coy retired it at 2003.

Enjoy ur ride while it is still ard dude!Nice rims!

    ========================

I made that mistake several times. I was too impatient, I guess. Once the rad cap went flying dunno where, but lucky I carried a spare. Later found the cap on the trailing arm. Lucky it didn't fall off when I was driving around. laugh.gif

think is cos we are too impatient to open it up...and the pressure cause the coolant to spill out when open the cap

I felt the radiator & was not too hot, so I tot OK. But when I opened it all hell broke loose with coolant spraying all over the place. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
