The F880HD manual is there. It's just below the F900HD manual. I've downloaded it to read.

    Brothers,

Two extracts from the F880HD manual

"AF: When switch to AF mode, it will depend on the subject and focus automatically to the clearest image. AF is fit for taking a close-up.
MF: When switching to MF mode, the focus is fixed. MF is fit for taking a long shot."

Conclusion: It seems as a car recorder, AF is not useful. AF is only useful to take photographs.

"When IR mode is on, the lens should be switched to night mode, meanwhile, the subjects within the range of IR-illumination will be clear black and white image."

Conclusion: Night vision is Black and White Image! Is this useful as a car-recorder? And F880HD does not come with a night flash. The IR replaced the night flash. I find it not useful as if I want to use it as a portable video/photo camera, it cannot capture colour shots in the night as it does not come with flash.

    hi hippoheyhey,

thanks for the in depth analysis.

how about the f900LHd vs F880 hd-1? still tinkering with these 2 models.

    thanks in advance

After reading thru the F880HD manual, I'm also having 2nd thought (like hippoheyhey) about buying it since I'd also like to use it as portable video cam.

The night mode will only record in black and white and there is no normal flash.

Maybe I should take the F900LHD instead...

The cam's IR illum not so powerful as to be able to shine out your windscreen.

i would try to imagine IR mode is like our SAF NVG where it boost the light intake of the apecture so it would give clearer and sharper picture...

nothing wrong if it's in B&W since it's e car plate and incident we wanna capture... if really wanna double up e cam as portable video/photo might as well do it e other way round: use a camera or video cam as ur in-car recorder.

rmb when there is insufficient light source the apecture react slowly and e image capture is slow... might juz miss a crucial frame where incident happen....

i'll stick with F880HD for its IR capability.... AF is juz something extra, wont mind paying extra $10 for it... if really no use juz turn it off... rather den when need i dun hv....

I'll stick back to getting the F900LHD. So I've 2 orders here.

The F900LHD with the car bracket & car charger cost slightly lesser than the F880HD-1 package.

    The video quality looks ok.

The only concern is that the IR flash might not be powerful enough to shine out the windscreen and to illuminate the car in front, considering the distance between the camera and the front car(s).

i think the IR mode is useless for road use. i would rather *ON* my car headlights ... biggrin.gif
it would be fun to use it around the house (pitch dark) or outdoor night walks ... thumbsup.gif

I think most people are buying the F880HD this time. I see 5 confirmed orders for F880HD already, none for F550HD

C'mon Sean, if you come over to F880HD-1, and with my 2 orders, might reach 10 orders for F880HD. Although my first choice would be F550HD.

    Hi Everyone

This is a minor update from me on the status of the car cam delivery.

I have already transferred the funds over to the supplier last week. I have not yet got a firm estimate on the delivery date - just a rough estimate of about 2 weeks. I have just emailed the supplier again this morning to follow up to get a firm date - I shall let you know when I get news.

By the way, in reply to a query from some of you, there is a 1 year warranty on the products - so if any issue after you have taken possession later - you can return to the supplier for repair/exchange within a year. I can assist you in sending back for this - but you need to bear shipping costs yourself. After repair the supplier will ship back at their own cost. Hope this answers the query.

That's all for now. Oh, by the way - there have been more calls for additional orders, so I shall begin a new MO soon - if you wish to be included in the email loop again, pls let me know - otherwise, I won't spam you with the new MO emails. My emails to you will now only deal with your own MO delivery details.

    Cheers!

For some reason all the clips come out as very jerky when I view them.

If you mean the clips seem jerky on the PC when you view them - that means the computer is either too slow or not optimised to display HD movies in .mov, or if you are using windows movie maker, it displays lower quality during preview mode - but it records in high quality - so that the final product would be clear and smooth. I have been doing this for a long time - definately, it's the PC issues - not the camera.

I'm using a DR9 from Vigi products. Installed in Autobacs. Doing well with it. Autobacs can also add a switch to make it a 24hr camera even if your engine is off. But you probably need a much larger SD card to support the lengthy video, maybe 8 or 16GB. http://www.vigidrive...9/products.html
I think there are some youtube videos using DR9 too.

    Bro,

How much u spent on installing at Autobacs? Thx.

I think its not expensive, a couple of tens. Probably less than $50. Call them to check. List price for the cam I'm using is $399. I did remember its $30 for extra wiring and switch to convert it into 24hr cam. SD card optional. Didn't do it cos the SD for 24 hr recording is not cheap. Then regretted not doing it when one stupid motorbike parked besides my car in HDB fell and scratched my front wheel arch. Dunno which MF did it.... sigh!

I was looking this too, but eventually got the one without LEDs as I read the LEDs can reflect off the windshield badly at night, and also if you have solar film, I don't think much of the IR can get out anyway.

Definitely. The worst thing is some local sellers don't even have much value-add. They blatantly copy the original ad with all the grammar and technical mistakes, and then mark up >100%. Warranty got to send back china/hk. Might as well order it yourself.

however realise dat when set to motion detect 'on' the recorder will split every minute...

anyone using F880 managed to resolve this? cos i managed to convert it to a 24hr survelliance camera via car battery power so din want to use normal recording else it may well overwrite my previous clips.. however, to have a clip every minute means there will be a lot of files... (imagine 60mins = 60 clips)

still in the process of transfer all the files to pc... shall upload for viewing soon.... happy.gif

So does the camera record on motion detector say, when, fatimah walking pass or when someone is vandalising the front of your car or when a car reversing and bang onto yours?

And dunno why when I tried to take pictures in 8 megapixel, the quality is worse than my 3mp handphone camera.

The windows 7 version of movie maker can edit mov files. But the one in Win XP can't. The videos I uploaded in my blog are all edited in Windows Movie Maker. It's super user friendly - much easier to use than the traditional ulead/pinnacle s/w, esp when you need to make a quick edit for youtube upload.

Just burn a dvd and pass it to the insurance company. Previously, when Mr Chong knocked into my car and lied in his report, I called up Income directly and the CS told me to pass her the recording at any branch office, attention to her name.

No need to edit, so that the CS will see the whole video start from carpark till the incident. This is to show that the video you submitted is real. Just inform the timeline that the accident happened.

not bad and it also can trim and mute.

during conversion, make sure to convert to a few format first, then email to the most common file format to the workshop to claim third party.

By the way, i noticed if I enable the IR light, the left screen will appear white (bright) patch. Turn off the IR light video screen will back to normal. Anyone having same issue=?

Im currently temporarily using a 4G class 4 on my F880 too & no problem.. but oredi ordered online for a 16G class 10.
This white patch is normal coz i oso face the same problem when the IR is activated in daylight mode, but when i sw to night mode wif IR on, the white patch will b gone. So i supposed the white patch acts as a bright sunlight shining on the lens in daylight mode thus forming the white patches ard it. The instruction manual oso states dat if using IR, muz sw to night mode. This cld b the reason y. blink.gif

It proven it strong and reliable plus durable of this set. ANw did I mentioned of fitting it up cost only $18 in one of the acc shop. if plus switch it abt $28.
