I leave the holder in the car, when removing the cam, i don't just pull up from the holder, there is the clip on the left and right side, just a slight pull, the cam will be ready to remove.
just connect the camera to your computer, remember to choose 'MSC' by pressing 'ok' key on your camera, then your computer should detect it.Bro,
how do i view the video?
my 2 sets of computer (OS Vista and XP) cant detect it.
Must I take out the SD card or can i plug and play into the computer (together with the camera) without taking out the SD card?
Im using 16GB sandisk ultra
Thanks.
later i go and try. camera now in car.
just tip the stick to the 'right' (manual says left but upside down liao so it's right for me) :)
thanks for the tips. (I didnt read the manual)
Previously, I had covered the LCD with a piece of paper becos of the LCD reflection on the windscreen

LCD reflection on windscreen? Hmm.. LCD is facing away from windscreen right? The lens should be facing the windscreen so should have no reflection from LCD... ?
Or... did you mount yours as a rearview as well? Thus the LCD reflection on windscreen.
I haf cfm my cam must be manually off everytime i off my engine, dunno why also, haf try for 2 days liao, but for every 15min,it will saves a file and re-record a new one :)
I just view the video on my pc.
Too many reflection on the video. some portion of the screen very clear. some portion very dark.
haha...I can even see my own camera (F500) reflection on the video.
i think i must shift the position of the camera to test again. Most likely due to the sunlight.
i mounted (standard mount) my camera on the dashboard beside the ERP unit.

ya... the sunlight reflection and refraction is causing lots of problems.. lots of flaring and whiteout on the video, esp in the early morning or evening time, when the sun is low on the horizon.
I am thinking - if we make s small tube out of some black material and fit over the wide angle lens like a camera hood - will this help? But it would look very wierd.
Needless to say I am sold and planend to buy the HD720P off Ebay for around $140.. I discovered this forum today and its been a great help answering many of my questions and I also learned that DealExtreme sell this model.
Its cheaper at less than $130 but does not list "Motion Capture" as a feature.
I have been told that there is a 'new' version which has "motion capture" and this is what the Ebay seller has.. Does the DealExtreme version also have this feature?
It was also suggested on another forum that the 'new' model has a Mic Mute feature.. Is this true.
Can anyone answer this, as I would rather get it cheaper at DealExtreme BUT if the Ebay seller is doing a 'new' version, $10 more is worthwhile for the new functionality.

Thank you for the valuable tips.
Any idea what is the duration option for?
tks!
I have been looking for some kind of camera which constantly records for years and finally decided to take the plunge one from Ebay for around ?50.. I was advised to consider the HD version, and initially dismissed this, that was until I saw the quality of the video.

Please think twice before getting this model. It is definitely not reliable at all. Before buying HD720P, I've read many forumers complaining of problems with their sets. But it is the type of blackbox that I want, small, concealed and with HD. I decided to buy it as I thought I won't be so unlucky. Guess what? I'm really unlucky. It hangs twice on the 1st day of usage. The set has since been sent back to dealextreme, waiting for refund.
I chanced upon VagSg Forum, and a set that I've never seen before interest me. It has park mode recording.
Here's the review:

I have emailed the manufacturer, and the set for a sample piece is US$180 excluding shipping. Understand that they'll be launching a 2-cam model in August.

I am getting the idea that you are right.. Too many people are reporting problems... I tried to read that review of the VisionDrive, but I need an account.> I tried to create one, but got stumped by the question about the 'COE' (I had to Google it to find out, as being in the UK, I had no idea what they were talking about).
I am in now and will read the review.. Do you have a link to the manufacturer? The only place I have found it for sale is Amazon and its $350!! Way out of my price range.

For 100 pcs, the price is US$146. If we can get 20 pax for a GB, maybe can neg for a good price.

I will read the review tonight, but I had a quick scan and it looks very VERY nice.. Infact, its exactly what I was hoping to get, in as much as that it only records in the event of a shock and has a button to capture an event.
I have already contacted the manufacturer so will have to see what they offer..

coe is uniquely singapore.
the story goes that malaysia government spent billions on R&D and come up with proton, they then sell it to malaysian for $30k each,
the singapore government spent nothing on R&D and came up with COE, they then sell it to singaporeans for $30k each.
I missed the last one, would like to buy one.
I view it and it is super clear and smooth.

I always try not to buy directly from China, regardless of products.
Will only buy, if no choice, unless they have an agent or distributor in Singapore...
The faulty rate is too high.......
There was even one case my company order something in white, they sent in grey and insisted that its white color, say we color blind... faint....

yup, mine is the latest model with motion detect and audio.
the china manufacturer will sent a new set to me, but if spoilt again then i dun noe how also.

bro...been discussed in the previous pages.. set the resolution to 1280 x 720.. There is a marked increase in coverage angle, but of course depth increases correspondingly (ie. "objects that seem further away may be nearer than you see")
Haha have previuosuly picked up your invaluable tip about the the decrease in the angle coverage when the reso is set to the max and that was why I wondered if there is any way to improve the coverage when at the max reso. Setting the reso lower some how defeat the purpose of getting a HD capable set

Just thinking if any bro can suggest any way to improve the coverage or if Sim Lim Tower or SLS shops sell more "powderful" wide-angle lens compatible to the F500HD set.
is this this model ?
Seeing how happy he's enjoying his unit makes me think whether there are other manufacturers of the same unit in China. Maybe he got the OEM model, and we got the clone...

My HD720p still works after I think 4-5mths already. No problem at all. I have now already passed it to my bro to use and he reported no problem too.
I hope u get urs settled with Dealsextreme.
Mine from dealsextreme does come with motion sensor and audio mute.

Hi Just collected today and maybe I was the last one after much waited, due to work. Sorry to rush thru the day and of cse heavy rain this morning. Everything work fine and I secure using the 2 mounting given for frt and rr in 2 hours, tugged in nicely... Good stuff.. Lov it and of cos thru yr hard work. Using the old 8GB sd card form previous DVR... version 4 still good enough to do the job.

I couldn't really justify the extra cost.. But with its 'GPS' functionality and concept of 'events' I couldn't resist.. So I bought one... I hope that its as good as hope.. Clearly the HD video (at 15 FPS) isnt' as good as the HD720P/DV-007, but the feature set looks to make up for that..

Anymore F500HD MO?

Thinking of selling mine from the groupbuy. Anyone keen? Only opened up to test the set. Not used.
Day/night video all very clear. No reflection from the windscreen.
But the upside down holder a little bit disappointing. Drop twice within 2 days in MSCP (not hot sun).
The Silver colour camera hanging on the windscreen is quite obvious if you are standing infront of bonnet.
I had used black tape to cover all the Silver portion to match with my windscreen black sun shade.
BTW, how do we upload to youtube? Thanks in advance

for those who, like me, had problems viewing the video on your PC(due to processor too slow etc) can use a HDMI cable to connect the F500 to your HD LCD TV.
I view it and it is super clear and smooth.
You mean viewing with HDMI cable on HD TV and the video is super clear? Cos I tried viewing the video taken on my laptop and the image is grainy. Can't even decipher the numbers and letters of the car's licence plate that stop directly in front of me. Any ways to improve it?
I have not tried the HDMI yet.. but surely can see car plates at least 2-3 lengths away right? Even at 1280x720 I still can clearly see number plates. If you are recording in not well-lit area, then sorry, it will be like that. I guess not enough light (info) are detected by the lens, hence the graininess.
Even switching on headlights doesn't help.
Have you tried the quality in open and well-lit places yet?
Another could be your resolution.
Did you set it at the lowest resolution? If yes, then set it higher. Low resolution will result in poorer pictures. My previous one was blurry in the day and very grainy at night. Not much use unless stopping right behind the car at traffic lights.

someone mentioned b4, hope below help:-
1. USB - IN, when engine start it will start auto recording in 5 sec, of course you must connect the USB cable to your DC outlet.
2. Recycle ? 15 min cycle your SDHC memory when it is fulled, otherwise it will stop recording.
3. Stamp - ON, to include date/time
4. At the 1280x720 resolution... + the wide angle, the F500HD also covers nearly the whole windscreen
5. Light freq - set to 60hz to remove traffic lights flickering.
Really hard to make up the number plates even if directly in front and broad daylight.
These are my settings on my the video cam.
Size: 1280 x 720
EV: 0+
White B: Auto
Contrast: Standard
Sharpness: Hard
Effect: Vivid
Are my settings off?
So I shld set it higher?

when i reverse back to normal mounting, video streaming view on computer is ok.

Some PCs are a bit cranky with certain USB devices, may not recognise easily.
Depends on many factors - USB device, USB socket, memory, OS, etc.
Eg. on my PC at home, once I connect a particular Seagate HDD, a few other USB device cannot be detected. But once I unplug the Seagate HDD, everything else ok again. It's irritating, but because I can workaround, I can't be bothered to get it working perfectly.

Hi, Mr.Thusara and Bro Jp66,
Finally, I can review the video clips and pictures by using a simple card reader, but the clips are all Up-side-down due to my mounting with the screw-on fixture.
Now trying to use a smooth suface plastic cap to stick onto my dash board with double side tape and then mount the camera up-right for the shooting, let's see any vibrations problems affecting pictures or not.
Many thanks...........

There is a setting in the cam to filp the video to correct this up-side-down issues.
For your cam to PC, you may want to try removing other USB device first and test out. it could be due to PC problem.

Some pointers;
1) If capture in HD best to get it connected with HDMI TV and the enjoy the videos and crisp Audio of what you have captured. No lag or jerking as yr comp might not be able to run it properly unless those powerful types.
2) Battery Set up. It would easily run for 2 hrs so not to worry, no need to run a wire as if you can buy additional one from h/p shop, about $35 (nokia original pls) per batt. Save you the trouble and use it for surveillance for normal shopping trips.
3) Use normal SD card will do, no need to get the latest as Class 4 or lower can do the job just as nice as anything. Clear images still be able to produce and with normal 8GB it can sustain for days or can i list it down by

I have something further to add... Some of the bros have given feedback about poor night quality. Well, the last few nights I have been observing.. I realise on 1280 x 720, with wide angle and also freq set to 60Hz, and EV + 2, the quality of night recording is much better. I shall try to cut a clip and demo here by tomorrow. I have not tried various different settings, but this one works for me.
I guess in those dimly lit areas like private estate or service roads, the visibility at night is much lower... but the danger areas like traffic junctions and major roads, and MSCP in Singapore are pretty well lit at night, and the cam has no problem capturing good scenes from those. For the dim areas, your own headlights play a major part.
Kudos to bro Adrian for the nice piloting skills with the chopper flypast!
wow ! I was not aware that a normal Nokia HP Lithium-ion battery is compatable to this F500HD, this would have be more worthwhile to buy this F500HD In-Car-Camera rahter than the more expensive hand held Movie Camera for out-door shooting as and when we go for sight-seeing tour. This is a good set and contented with its features.
Whatever you had conducted trial pls post it up and share with the rest. I had a previous set but of China brand
and obviously it lost to this set. I can easily concluded the TWN quality is better, looking at its sec mounting of metal parts and the upside down bracket.. basically it will be reliable, not to worry and most impt the cost which we can never get from outside. The cons side, ha.ha... of this is the lack of motion detector else definitely the best we have.

Selling mine from the groupbuy at $150. Not used at all except for testing the set upon receiving it.
Reason to sell is becos I need something to catch a vandal rather then for accident.
Hi, Which model are you selling and at what price? I might be interested.
THanks
Mine can be use as CCTV to catch vandal. You only need to connect to the direct battery. The power input is low and they is battery monitor system inside to ensure your car battery will not goes flat. Fews of my customer had already bought the 2 channel dvr to act as a CCTV front and rear view.

any one know a good FREEWARE that can EDIT the .mov files that are recorded by the cam? The windows movie maker can't. If need to convert from .mov to other file format first - i guess possible, but I fear may lose data in the conversion process.
My Windows Movie Maker can. I used it to edit the videos I posted above.
I downloaded quicktime player, then it auto dl the necessary codec together. After that, I went to WMM and import the clips and edit them and publish them as either 720p or 1080p.
When importing the clips, select ALL to see the .mov file.
I take it that previously it could, but no longer can. SO I am assuming you may have an older copy of WMM that still allows .mov importing. Can you let me know the version of your OS and WMM? Thanks, mate!
Hi Bro Adrian... I tried what you mentioned - even redownloaded quicktime - but still cannot directly import .mov into WMM. I then searched the web and found from microsoft that "WMM no longer supports importing of .mov files".
I take it that previously it could, but no longer can. SO I am assuming you may have an older copy of WMM that still allows .mov importing. Can you let me know the version of your OS and WMM? Thanks, mate!
Mine is indeed a older PC using Windows Vista. Let me go home and see, then I let you know.
But I always update the windows whenever it prompts me so I tot my version should be updated? No?
And then shall use WMM to edit. Not most efficient - but the quickest at the moment, without having to search for any further for better s/w.
hmm.. tried converting MOV to AVI using Quicktime pro ..but the quality of the converted file is pretty bad... looks like no choice but to go for the high end editors.
There are a couple of free conversion software around. You can try FormatFactory, which I personally use quite often. It also has simple editing features for cropping (extract just an area on the video) and trimming (change start/end time)

It is FREEWARE
It is a high quality software - from one of the big boys of video editing: PINNACLE
It can edit MOV files directly, without having to convert first.
It can trim and add comments direct to video!!
It's called PINNACLE VIDEOSPIN: http://www.videospin.com/Redesign/

Hi Bro Adrian... I tried what you mentioned - even redownloaded quicktime - but still cannot directly import .mov into WMM. I then searched the web and found from microsoft that "WMM no longer supports importing of .mov files".
I take it that previously it could, but no longer can. SO I am assuming you may have an older copy of WMM that still allows .mov importing. Can you let me know the version of your OS and WMM? Thanks, mate!
Here is my version as requested :
yay... finally found the perfect video editing software for MOV files!!
It is FREEWARE
It is a high quality software - from one of the big boys of video editing: PINNACLE
It can edit MOV files directly, without having to convert first.
It can trim and add comments direct to video!!
It's called PINNACLE VIDEOSPIN: http://www.videospin.com/Redesign/
Thanks for the link

Bro,is this free to use 4 long time? cause it says 15 trial days for me leh? btw,it gives me my id,but ask me to see email for password, but my email dun haf any pw leh?
it's always free. the 15 days is for some add ons only. but main s/w is free. no p/w necessary

no mac version ?
mac? I thought Mac already comes with solid video editing s/w by default? Isn't that what all the Mac fanboys keep saying - Mac is great for multimedia, etc?
Accident at the junction of Marymount Lane and Upper Thomson Road
Recorded using F500HD night video. Very blur. :(
to me, the quality is ok.
I am not sure this has been discussed but anyone know any gadgets or devices to cut away power from car battery if battery falls below the level which your car cannot start? I need this for over night survillance.
Thanks.
I shall be wrapping up the MO these couple of days. Don't want to make a huge order like the 1st MO - that one very hard to handle. So this MO will be on a smaller scale. Once I get 10-15 orders, it's a go. About 8 orders received so far.
is there any way to mute the recording? dun really want my conversation captured..
Put a tape over the mic. No joke.

So far, no such product I know of. But u can go sim lim tower and get those electronics shop to do it for you. Its just a simple cut off device, they should be able to make one for you. Lots of students go there for their projects.
I recommend the shop at the corner of basement 1 rear staircase.

Sorry, I cant remember the shop name. Just tell them what you need and the boss will quote u accordingly. Look for the a bit plump tall guy with glasses. They speak mandarin. Lots of gadgets in their shop.
I go there for my electronic needs. But for LED lights, the shop in level 3 is much cheaper. Owner is a Hongkong guy. Partner is a woman and she give better price and discount. Sorry, I cant remember the shop name.
At first it did not work at all with my old Kingston SD, but I recall seeing that Kingston cards could cause problems for some types of DVR. So I got a new Sandisk 4gb SDHC and it seems to be ok, the pause between segments is only 2-3 secs when the card is newly formatted.
After 1 week I decided to check on the recording and was surprised to see only 1.7gb of recordings in the 4gb card. I noticed also that the gap between some segments was now 10 sec, and in another case around 5-7 minutes !

Emailed u but no reply leh.hi all.. been receiving several PMs and enquiries about another MO for the F500 and the F900 these few days. Last call for the MO - those who are keen - please send me an email at parkingidiot gmail . com - I'll send you more info. Don't want to clog this thread with any further MO details.

I have replied all the emails I received leh... can you pm me your email address?
Can I get some advice in this thread on whether my DVR is faulty. Mine is a basic 640x480 model bought from overseas, looks something like this type :

One impt question, is your car usually parked or driven under the hot sun?
I suspect a lot of these recording devices and even some SD cards do not handle the high outdoor temperatures in Singapore well. I'm not sure about your case, but I've seen some devices with operating temp rated up to 40 deg C only, beyond which normal operation is not guaranteed. However, most new SD cards are rated up to 85 deg C, so your new SD card should be ok.
Also what is the duration of each segment? The gap between 5min segments for 640x480 AVI should be at most 4-5s for a typical class 4 SD card. Try another SD card, if you have. Take note of the operating condition, as testing may be done indoor for a short while, whereas actual usage can be outdoor for extended period (external factors like heat and vibration can come in).
imho, the cam is behaving erratically (perhaps under specific conditions) and seems to be faulty. If heat is causing the problems, then I guess the quality of the electronics is not so good.

Thks for your comments. My car is usually parked under shelter both at home and work, seldom driven during the daytime when its the hottest. The duration of each segment for my DVR model is 3min.
For these types of DVR with overwrite function, do they overwrite individual clips one by one according to time sequence, or they delete large chunks of data at a time to free up blocks of space ? Cos I just checked again this morning after driving to work and the SD card is now almost empty and has only 2 clips with the last 6 mins of recording on it. Very strange since last night it was half full.

It should always be First-In-First-Out (FIFO), otherwise what if the video footage that you need happens to be in the older files? Seems to be something wrong with the recording.

Hope to get some feedbacks before ordering it

Tonight will test it on the f500.For those who are interested, just bought a Lexar 8G Class 6 SDHC card from Giant at $24.90 compared to $28 before. Installed it onto my H720P dvr and file transfer time reduced from 5 s to 2 s for 2 min recording.
Actually was buying a brand new $15 for Kingston or sandisk 8gb. But the guy can only deal nx week so I just buy this

anyway i tested the lexar 8gb class 6 on the camera.. tried the 1 min recycle. wa lapse is almost 0, probably at most 0.5s.
Not sure about longer recycle times, have to drive to try.

at 1 min - no lag time la... even with the slow cards... because only need to write very small file. But bigger files like 15min at HD will have filesize of about 1GB ... no matter how fast the card, sure have lag time as 1GB file need time to write.
my 512 sd at 1 min also 5 secat 1 min - no lag time la... even with the slow cards... because only need to write very small file. But bigger files like 15min at HD will have filesize of about 1GB ... no matter how fast the card, sure have lag time as 1GB file need time to write.

so which settings are u at now? if that's the case, is it good thing to keep it at 1 min with a lot of files?
btw wanted to ask u about your mounting, you mounting it upside down (not the screw in type) right? mine is getting looser as compared to when i first installed. think the heat when i parked under the sun expanded the holding brackets..
have to think of something secure it before it drops when im driving

i attached a piece of cork tape (foam tape will do as well) to the bracket,
so now the clip is very firm against the bracket,
no way it will drop out.
as in you leave the camera there?i attached a piece of cork tape (foam tape will do as well) to the bracket,

cos im removing the camera everytime i leave the car.. 1 good way is if the bracket is on the upright position but i don know how
as in you leave the camera there?
cos im removing the camera everytime i leave the car..
i too lazy to take it out lah,
so just leave it there unless i want to download interesting clips,
and when i do, i just detach the cam leaving the clip on the bracket
as it's very tightly attached now due to the cork tape.
i attached it so it's just under the rear-view mirror.

I notice it was not recording, there is a message 'CARD FULL'. After deleting all the files, it is back to normal again. Did you guy encounter the same?

My cam has been working fine since day 1 but it decided to take a break on National Day
.

Nope, mine is still working fine. Using Sandisk 16Gb Class 2 SD card.

Is it the F500HD, MO from P.idiot? mine still all right leh since 1st day, today never check it on leave or not yet cause never drive yet 2day...
I think is because u never put recycle yes? or save per file like 15min?
Anyone has any workshop to recommend for concealing the wires?
I recommend Vision at Rangoon Rd. I am a long time customer of his.

Concealing is easy but wiring to Batt might need SME... anyway what is the costing then we can have Grp fixing..I recommend Vision at Rangoon Rd. I am a long time customer of his.
My last two cars wiring are done by him.
