I leave the holder in the car, when removing the cam, i don't just pull up from the holder, there is the clip on the left and right side, just a slight pull, the cam will be ready to remove.

    Bro,
how do i view the video?
my 2 sets of computer (OS Vista and XP) cant detect it.

Must I take out the SD card or can i plug and play into the computer (together with the camera) without taking out the SD card?
    Im using 16GB sandisk ultra
    Thanks.

just connect the camera to your computer, remember to choose 'MSC' by pressing 'ok' key on your camera, then your computer should detect it.

LCD reflection on windscreen? Hmm.. LCD is facing away from windscreen right? The lens should be facing the windscreen so should have no reflection from LCD... ?

Or... did you mount yours as a rearview as well? Thus the LCD reflection on windscreen.

i mounted (standard mount) my camera on the dashboard beside the ERP unit.
I just view the video on my pc.

Too many reflection on the video. some portion of the screen very clear. some portion very dark.
haha...I can even see my own camera (F500) reflection on the video.
i think i must shift the position of the camera to test again. Most likely due to the sunlight.

ya... the sunlight reflection and refraction is causing lots of problems.. lots of flaring and whiteout on the video, esp in the early morning or evening time, when the sun is low on the horizon.

I am thinking - if we make s small tube out of some black material and fit over the wide angle lens like a camera hood - will this help? But it would look very wierd.

One common feedback is the insufficent coverage even with the wide-angle lens. By this I mean the camera lens not being able to cover the two critical sides, left & right, of our vehicles (F500HD mounted either front or back). Any bros have any idea how to improve this through any DIY-method or if there are other compatible "wider" wide-angle lens in the market that can work with the F500HD?

bro...been discussed in the previous pages.. set the resolution to 1280 x 720.. There is a marked increase in coverage angle, but of course depth increases correspondingly (ie. "objects that seem further away may be nearer than you see")

I have been looking for some kind of camera which constantly records for years and finally decided to take the plunge one from Ebay for around ?50.. I was advised to consider the HD version, and initially dismissed this, that was until I saw the quality of the video.

Needless to say I am sold and planend to buy the HD720P off Ebay for around $140.. I discovered this forum today and its been a great help answering many of my questions and I also learned that DealExtreme sell this model.

Its cheaper at less than $130 but does not list "Motion Capture" as a feature.

I have been told that there is a 'new' version which has "motion capture" and this is what the Ebay seller has.. Does the DealExtreme version also have this feature?

It was also suggested on another forum that the 'new' model has a Mic Mute feature.. Is this true.

Can anyone answer this, as I would rather get it cheaper at DealExtreme BUT if the Ebay seller is doing a 'new' version, $10 more is worthwhile for the new functionality.

Please think twice before getting this model. It is definitely not reliable at all. Before buying HD720P, I've read many forumers complaining of problems with their sets. But it is the type of blackbox that I want, small, concealed and with HD. I decided to buy it as I thought I won't be so unlucky. Guess what? I'm really unlucky. It hangs twice on the 1st day of usage. The set has since been sent back to dealextreme, waiting for refund.

I chanced upon VagSg Forum, and a set that I've never seen before interest me. It has park mode recording.

    Here's the review:
    http://www.vagsg.com...8435#post528435

I have emailed the manufacturer, and the set for a sample piece is US$180 excluding shipping. Understand that they'll be launching a 2-cam model in August.

I am getting the idea that you are right.. Too many people are reporting problems... I tried to read that review of the VisionDrive, but I need an account.> I tried to create one, but got stumped by the question about the 'COE' (I had to Google it to find out, as being in the UK, I had no idea what they were talking about).

I am in now and will read the review.. Do you have a link to the manufacturer? The only place I have found it for sale is Amazon and its $350!! Way out of my price range.

I have already contacted the manufacturer so will have to see what they offer..

    coe is uniquely singapore.

the story goes that malaysia government spent billions on R&D and come up with proton, they then sell it to malaysian for $30k each,
the singapore government spent nothing on R&D and came up with COE, they then sell it to singaporeans for $30k each.

I always try not to buy directly from China, regardless of products.

Will only buy, if no choice, unless they have an agent or distributor in Singapore...

The faulty rate is too high.......

Haha have previuosuly picked up your invaluable tip about the the decrease in the angle coverage when the reso is set to the max and that was why I wondered if there is any way to improve the coverage when at the max reso. Setting the reso lower some how defeat the purpose of getting a HD capable set smile.gif

Just thinking if any bro can suggest any way to improve the coverage or if Sim Lim Tower or SLS shops sell more "powderful" wide-angle lens compatible to the F500HD set.

For me, the best place to place the camera is beside the left side of the rear view mirror.
Day/night video all very clear. No reflection from the windscreen.

But the upside down holder a little bit disappointing. Drop twice within 2 days in MSCP (not hot sun).

The Silver colour camera hanging on the windscreen is quite obvious if you are standing infront of bonnet.
I had used black tape to cover all the Silver portion to match with my windscreen black sun shade.

BTW, how do we upload to youtube? Thanks in advance

If you are recording in not well-lit area, then sorry, it will be like that. I guess not enough light (info) are detected by the lens, hence the graininess.
Even switching on headlights doesn't help.

Have you tried the quality in open and well-lit places yet?

    Another could be your resolution.

Did you set it at the lowest resolution? If yes, then set it higher. Low resolution will result in poorer pictures. My previous one was blurry in the day and very grainy at night. Not much use unless stopping right behind the car at traffic lights.

someone mentioned b4, hope below help:-
    1. USB - IN, when engine start it will start auto recording in 5 sec, of course you must connect the USB cable to your DC outlet.
    2. Recycle ? 15 min cycle your SDHC memory when it is fulled, otherwise it will stop recording.
    3. Stamp - ON, to include date/time
    4. At the 1280x720 resolution... + the wide angle, the F500HD also covers nearly the whole windscreen
    5. Light freq - set to 60hz to remove traffic lights flickering.

bro Fongmy... have you tried to remove the SDHC card and use a separate card reader to view?

Some PCs are a bit cranky with certain USB devices, may not recognise easily.

Depends on many factors - USB device, USB socket, memory, OS, etc.
Eg. on my PC at home, once I connect a particular Seagate HDD, a few other USB device cannot be detected. But once I unplug the Seagate HDD, everything else ok again. It's irritating, but because I can workaround, I can't be bothered to get it working perfectly.

bro Fongmy... have you tried to remove the SDHC card and use a separate card reader to view?

Some PCs are a bit cranky with certain USB devices, may not recognise easily.

Depends on many factors - USB device, USB socket, memory, OS, etc.
Eg. on my PC at home, once I connect a particular Seagate HDD, a few other USB device cannot be detected. But once I unplug the Seagate HDD, everything else ok again. It's irritating, but because I can workaround, I can't be bothered to get it working perfectly.

Mr.Thusara, thanks for your advice, I shall try out card reader to see my pc can review or not.

    Hi, Mr.Thusara and Bro Jp66,

Finally, I can review the video clips and pictures by using a simple card reader, but the clips are all Up-side-down due to my mounting with the screw-on fixture.
Now trying to use a smooth suface plastic cap to stick onto my dash board with double side tape and then mount the camera up-right for the shooting, let's see any vibrations problems affecting pictures or not.
    Many thanks...........

There is a setting in the cam to filp the video to correct this up-side-down issues.
For your cam to PC, you may want to try removing other USB device first and test out. it could be due to PC problem.

This is a good set and contented with its features. biggrin.gif Whatever you had conducted trial pls post it up and share with the rest. I had a previous set but of China brand sad.gif and obviously it lost to this set. I can easily concluded the TWN quality is better, looking at its sec mounting of metal parts and the upside down bracket.. basically it will be reliable, not to worry and most impt the cost which we can never get from outside. The cons side, ha.ha... of this is the lack of motion detector else definitely the best we have. laugh.gif

    Some pointers;
    1) If capture in HD best to get it connected with HDMI TV and the enjoy the videos and crisp Audio of what you have captured. No lag or jerking as yr comp might not be able to run it properly unless those powerful types.
    2) Battery Set up. It would easily run for 2 hrs so not to worry, no need to run a wire as if you can buy additional one from h/p shop, about $35 (nokia original pls) per batt. Save you the trouble and use it for surveillance for normal shopping trips.
    3) Use normal SD card will do, no need to get the latest as Class 4 or lower can do the job just as nice as anything. Clear images still be able to produce and with normal 8GB it can sustain for days or can i list it down by

bro s-gt... impressive field report! Thanks for the effort!

I have something further to add... Some of the bros have given feedback about poor night quality. Well, the last few nights I have been observing.. I realise on 1280 x 720, with wide angle and also freq set to 60Hz, and EV + 2, the quality of night recording is much better. I shall try to cut a clip and demo here by tomorrow. I have not tried various different settings, but this one works for me.

I guess in those dimly lit areas like private estate or service roads, the visibility at night is much lower... but the danger areas like traffic junctions and major roads, and MSCP in Singapore are pretty well lit at night, and the cam has no problem capturing good scenes from those. For the dim areas, your own headlights play a major part.

Kudos to bro Adrian for the nice piloting skills with the chopper flypast!

wow ! I was not aware that a normal Nokia HP Lithium-ion battery is compatable to this F500HD, this would have be more worthwhile to buy this F500HD In-Car-Camera rahter than the more expensive hand held Movie Camera for out-door shooting as and when we go for sight-seeing tour.

Mine can be use as CCTV to catch vandal. You only need to connect to the direct battery. The power input is low and they is battery monitor system inside to ensure your car battery will not goes flat. Fews of my customer had already bought the 2 channel dvr to act as a CCTV front and rear view.

My Windows Movie Maker can. I used it to edit the videos I posted above.

I downloaded quicktime player, then it auto dl the necessary codec together. After that, I went to WMM and import the clips and edit them and publish them as either 720p or 1080p.

When importing the clips, select ALL to see the .mov file.

Hi Bro Adrian... I tried what you mentioned - even redownloaded quicktime - but still cannot directly import .mov into WMM. I then searched the web and found from microsoft that "WMM no longer supports importing of .mov files".

I take it that previously it could, but no longer can. SO I am assuming you may have an older copy of WMM that still allows .mov importing. Can you let me know the version of your OS and WMM? Thanks, mate!

Mine is indeed a older PC using Windows Vista. Let me go home and see, then I let you know.

But I always update the windows whenever it prompts me so I tot my version should be updated? No?

I am now using a workaround - got a file converter to convert MOV to AVI.
And then shall use WMM to edit. Not most efficient - but the quickest at the moment, without having to search for any further for better s/w.

There are a couple of free conversion software around. You can try FormatFactory, which I personally use quite often. It also has simple editing features for cropping (extract just an area on the video) and trimming (change start/end time) biggrin.gif

Can I get some advice in this thread on whether my DVR is faulty. Mine is a basic 640x480 model bought from overseas, looks something like this type :

At first it did not work at all with my old Kingston SD, but I recall seeing that Kingston cards could cause problems for some types of DVR. So I got a new Sandisk 4gb SDHC and it seems to be ok, the pause between segments is only 2-3 secs when the card is newly formatted.

After 1 week I decided to check on the recording and was surprised to see only 1.7gb of recordings in the 4gb card. I noticed also that the gap between some segments was now 10 sec, and in another case around 5-7 minutes ! bigcry.gif Is it a problem with the DVR or my SD card ? My SDHC is a Class 4 so its not that slow.

One impt question, is your car usually parked or driven under the hot sun?

I suspect a lot of these recording devices and even some SD cards do not handle the high outdoor temperatures in Singapore well. I'm not sure about your case, but I've seen some devices with operating temp rated up to 40 deg C only, beyond which normal operation is not guaranteed. However, most new SD cards are rated up to 85 deg C, so your new SD card should be ok.

Also what is the duration of each segment? The gap between 5min segments for 640x480 AVI should be at most 4-5s for a typical class 4 SD card. Try another SD card, if you have. Take note of the operating condition, as testing may be done indoor for a short while, whereas actual usage can be outdoor for extended period (external factors like heat and vibration can come in).

imho, the cam is behaving erratically (perhaps under specific conditions) and seems to be faulty. If heat is causing the problems, then I guess the quality of the electronics is not so good.

Thks for your comments. My car is usually parked under shelter both at home and work, seldom driven during the daytime when its the hottest. The duration of each segment for my DVR model is 3min.

For these types of DVR with overwrite function, do they overwrite individual clips one by one according to time sequence, or they delete large chunks of data at a time to free up blocks of space ? Cos I just checked again this morning after driving to work and the SD card is now almost empty and has only 2 clips with the last 6 mins of recording on it. Very strange since last night it was half full.

It should always be First-In-First-Out (FIFO), otherwise what if the video footage that you need happens to be in the older files? Seems to be something wrong with the recording.

    have pmed u both..

anyway i tested the lexar 8gb class 6 on the camera.. tried the 1 min recycle. wa lapse is almost 0, probably at most 0.5s.
Not sure about longer recycle times, have to drive to try.

at 1 min - no lag time la... even with the slow cards... because only need to write very small file. But bigger files like 15min at HD will have filesize of about 1GB ... no matter how fast the card, sure have lag time as 1GB file need time to write.

my 512 sd at 1 min also 5 sec laugh.gif

so which settings are u at now? if that's the case, is it good thing to keep it at 1 min with a lot of files?

btw wanted to ask u about your mounting, you mounting it upside down (not the screw in type) right? mine is getting looser as compared to when i first installed. think the heat when i parked under the sun expanded the holding brackets..
have to think of something secure it before it drops when im driving

i attached a piece of cork tape (foam tape will do as well) to the bracket,
so now the clip is very firm against the bracket,
no way it will drop out.

Can someone show a photo of how the F500HD can be mounted on the wind screen? Am driving an SUV and the windscreen is wide so not sure which is the better way to mount it....

i too lazy to take it out lah,
so just leave it there unless i want to download interesting clips,
and when i do, i just detach the cam leaving the clip on the bracket
as it's very tightly attached now due to the cork tape.

i attached it so it's just under the rear-view mirror.

My cam has been working fine since day 1 but it decided to take a break on National Day sad.gif .

I notice it was not recording, there is a message 'CARD FULL'. After deleting all the files, it is back to normal again. Did you guy encounter the same? confused.gif
