I used to use WMMaker too but it lacks the functionallity I wanted so I went looking ard n found Pinnacle. Its great. Last time I was using Ulead but now I find Pinnacle more frenly. I cant seem to find any freeware to edit clips in HD.
I just made a little video from Pinnacle over the weekend :

Nope. Video taken by Nokia E6 mobile phone. Then edited by Pinnacle Studio HD v15. I removed original sound, insert music and trimmed the music to suit the video. And finally export in 720p HD.
Just a little sample of what the software is capable of.

BTW, I got it cheaply, RM18 only if u know what I mean.
Get the DOD GSE580. U will not be disappointed with the Full HD quality!!!
The problem with the GSE580 is the shape/size.. I loved having the screen on my F500HD, but it made it attractive to theifs which is why it was stolen...
This time round, I want something descrete, such as the GS300.. But I must admit that the Pittasoft DR400G-HD has caught my eye.. Nice features.. Great design.. But is it any good????

DR400G-HD has the latest of everything. It should be considered one of the best cam now. But think its pricing should be quite high too. U can read up some of the product advertising posted by our 2 regular vendors here about this product.

I am from South Wales.... The DR400G-HD is looking very tempting.. Its very small and I would like to think that no-one would notice it, let alone try to steal it...

If you want something which no-one will notice, the DR400G-HD is a good choice. Its tube-style cam body can be hidden fully behind the rear view mirror. Or the cheaper older version Blackvue is just as small and good, but without HD.

If u thought F500HD video quality is good, the GSE580 video quality will stunt you. They are the best at the moment, I have yet to review the DG400G-HD.
Yes, the size of the GSE580 might be a factor to consider. But if you place it next to your rear view mirror, I believe it will not be easily noticed. The GSE580 also has an option to turn off the screen when recording automatically.
The price of DG400G-HD is high at the moment, as it is a new product. So probably you have to wait a while for the price to come down. Just make do with the HD720P you got for the moment.

Hi Vega, I think GSE580 internal player only recognised the file name it records..once the name is changed, it will not read.

There are HD720Ps all over which claim to be HD, but this does not appear to be the case... How can you tell whether you are getting an original 720P or one of the inferior clones.. I notice that the cheap ones only have USB, where as the original was HDMI.. Could this be the differentiator?

For DODGSE580, how can i do video editing on my PC beside using the camera? What software do i need?
Waa
Anyway i use MOV Cutter to cut the video out, but there is/are negative part using this software.
-It takes sometimes to cut the video, depend the length of video you selected
-I am unable to add in music etc, cutting directly your video only
-When i manually fast forward the clip in the software, sometimes the video get hang
GSE580 design to help the user by adding video cutting using the camera, but 2" screen is too small to view detail playback.
Also GSE580 itself allow you to take screen shot of the clip, but you need to pause the clip then click the recording button to take screen shot.

I have the habit of clearing all the video files on the memory card everyday. those "interesting" footage i captured, i will save in my PC and rename the files for easy reference.
This particular file that i wanted to share with the nice people here was really long (10 min) and i wish to extract just the portion i wish to share but i already renamed it.
i was trying to put the renamed file back to the memory card and do extraction from the camera.

You have the same habit as i am. Cos i keep playing with the setting, so reach home, turn on PC, plug the USB cable to GSe580, select MSC then let my computer to boot up. Right now i am busy to upload, just copy the video out & keep on my PC. Most probably post some video clip this weekend on my facebook.
Please let me know if by renaming that particular file back in that format works for you.

Hi Bro,
1st) May i know whether you bought the GSE580 from me? Or someone else?
Like i said earlier to everyone here, i am here to help on any GSE580 related issue but my customer will be top priority.
2nd) Please confirm whether is HP or HD player. If HD player, where do you get it? Are you able to playback using VLC player?
3rd) What problem do you encounter on the HD Player? Can briefly describe? Any error or pop up?
4th) As you mentioned, the unit will not save any video after you shutdown your engine. Before you shutdown the engine can you see the red circle flickering on the LCD, also what is the setting for USB OUT? DURATION?
Please reply the above questions, i am most willing to provide you support.
Cheers

Renaming a file is not just as simple as name change...the attributes changes as a diff sys was used to change the name. The native player in 580 will not play.

Hi Vega,
Let me try on my unit & get back to you.
Please correct me if i am wrong, Basically, it is a recorded video recorded by GSE580. Then you select CUT & PASTE on your PC & rename it ( retaining the video format & original video length). So after that even if you rename the format that i inform you & copy back to the same folder, the unit unable to detect/playback?

any bro installed blackvue HD? i just install mine... may i ask - is the camera warm (hot, but not burning hand type of hotness)? Is that normal?
Thanks.
I have read the manual and it seems to only save 'events' when you hit a pre-defined 'shock' limit.. But it seems like a bit of an oversight for you not to be able to press a button to trigger an event when you witness something which doesn't not involve "shock".
As far as I can tell, the big button on the side is not used in normal operation, so it would make sense for this to be used to trigger an event.
I guess you could hit the camera, causing a 'shock' and making it treat this as an event, but this is hardly scientific..
Is this feature really missing from the product? If so, it a huge shame, as I would prefer to have this option, than have to record continuously and edit out all the good bit priodically.

Now that my memory card has only this file, what i am going to try next is to see whether the camera will start recording starting AMBA0014 or AMBA0001.
If it start recording using AMBA0001, that mean the camera can't read the file i copy back to the memory card.
If it start recording using AMBA0014, that mean the camera can read the file i copy back to the memory card. If this is the case, how come it didnt show up as a file on the camera?

Hi Vega,
I did a test before, it will only be AMBA0001 when the last file is AMBA9999.
I also tested to copy the old video (video that i have copied to my PC few days ago ) back to my GSE580 folder (GSE580 Memory card\DCIM\100MEDIA)<-- Must be this folder & the result is i am able to playback using my GSE580 itself.

Hi Axela525,
Sorry for late reply.
Here is the link http://www.spgsoft.com/mov-cutter.html.
Really pleased with the picture quality of the recorder even when driving to KL in the rain last night. Downside is, it consumes a lot of memory to record. One-minute file is about 50-plus megabyte.
Drove for about 5 hours to KL yesterday with the camera recording all the way. When I removed the micro SD card, the card felt warm - a bit hotter than what I am comfortable with, but I guess it should be OK. Forgot to touch the camera to feel the heat.

Hi.. I am not sure if you misunderstood my question.. Say you are driving along and there is an accident in front of you, or someone cuts you up.. Can you trigger an 'event'... Obviously this will be captured as a 'normal' recording.. But is there any way to trigger an event.
The manual says that it captures an event when the camera gets a shock (i.e a crash) which is fine.. But it seems a strange thing not to allow you to manually record an event.
I assume that the big button on the side would allow you to press it and record an 'event' but this isn't stated int he docs.
If this isn't possible I am concerned.. From reading the manual, a 16G card gives 7 hours of recording.. And this is dividing up between Normal, Event and Parking recordings.. If you configured it in 1/3s, this would only give around 2-3 hours normal recording, no-where near enough time if you witness something when you are out an about.
Surely there must be a way to capture small interesting 'clips' (events) manually?
Jon

When you copy back to your memory card, is the memory card in the gse580 or the memory card plug into a card reader connected to the PC? I am using a card reader when copying back from PC to memory card.

Hi Vega,

Good Morning.

Ok, now I understand what you meant. And I think you misunderstood the 'event' thing. The normal, event, and parking recording run chronologically. Parking is well understood. Event is when during normal recording, the camera G-sensor detected higher motion than the pre-set values (for example, in an accident, or in my case when I drive over speed breakers), hence the particular file will be classified as "event" in the blackvue software playback display. I think it is just to allow us to filter out the files easily.Hi..
Jon
I set my recorder to overwrite files first in first out, and i'm not sure if event will be overwritten as well. So, if you want it to be labelled as event, all you need to do is just to tap on the camera to activate the G-sensor. If not, it will still be recorded as "normal" until it gets overwritten.
Just my experience after owning the set for one day.

Many thanks for that.. I fully understand the 3 modes.. I used to have a VisionDrive 3000 and that works as follows
1. It would continuously record and would overwrite the oldest.. So you had about 5-10 hours off footage of you driving around.
2. It would record an event (including seconds before and after) in the event of shock (i.e a collision)
3. It would record an event (same as 2) if you pressed the button
4. Parking mode
This means that as you drove around you had many hours of continuous footage, and then a series of 'events' which were either triggered automatically in the event of shock (hopefully not too many) and those which you manually triggered.
But with the DR400, its seems that there is not 'official' way of triggering the manual event.. This means that you would have a very small collection of events (hopefully none, as lets face it your rarely have a crash) and a period of continous footage.. The most important feature for me in an incar DVR is the ability to trigger and event. That way, as well as the continuous footage you have IF you need it, you have a selection of clips of things you have observed throughout your journey.
This really makes it a bit pointless, especially as you have to define how much of the card is reserved for each catagory.. This means that you will generally only ever had a small(ish) amount of time for the Normal mode, and then loads of reserved space for Events and Parking.. Events that in general are only going to happen once (i.e a collision).
But as you say, you can trigger the G-sensors by tapping the camera, fooling it into thinking that there was a crash and forcing it to store an 'event'. But I find it hard to believe the Pittasoft intended this behaviour.. For me, I am just surprised that you can press the big button to store an event, and hold it to switch to parking mode.. It would be an easy thing to add in firmware, and it truth I am staggered that they don't have it.

Yes - the circle appears every time it shuts down. I have found the file is there, but it is 1.5 to 2 minutes short.

A few months back there was a topic on this. Got one bro was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint by an officer (who spotted his cam) and they questioned him for a few hours, then released.Anyone ever been asked to switch it off at woodlands/tuas checkpoints? I remember seeing signage saying no recording allowed, I think it might apply to car recorder.
Last month I went in JB, I on the cam cos I observed they don't check out-going cars. But when I drove back in, I totally removed it, so as not to stir any trouble cos I know they will detail check all in-coming cars.
As a Singaporean, I'm more concerned at the Malaysia side, and not the Singapore side. So at Malaysia side, I go for the Green Lane, so won't get checked at all.
Xavier, this dual lens cam has got no motion detector, right? (I remember u ever told me b4...)Latest Recommendation 2: DSX1412CH Latest Dual Camera! Front Lens 140 degree with 120 degree back lens / GPS Logger / G-Sensor!

I think like you too, video quality is third importance to me. First importance is able to record without lags, and don't 'black-out' suddenly. Second is affordability.
U want to capture hit-n-run then u get one cam with motion detector, or run yr cam 24/7. Yr 'cheap DVR' comes with motion detection function?
Anyone ever been asked to switch it off at woodlands/tuas checkpoints? I remember seeing signage saying no recording allowed, I think it might apply to car recorder.
I been through a couple of times. I didn't get stopped. Probably the form factor helps?

Bro what happen to my LUKAS is that if i brake hard (ie to avoid an accident), the DVR will start to beep to trigger an event recording. I haven't really take a look at the blackvue software but for LUKAS one you can set the parameters yourself. I set it to insensitive and sometimes even during normal turning it will record as an event.
If you didn't exceed the parameters = it's not enough to trigger as an event? Think about it this way, my event files will not be overwrited. So if i were to 'record' so many events, i find myself taking out the SD card every now and then just to delete the event files? This will somehow defeat the purpose of an ease free DVR?
If you want to record a certain event down, then i guess the only way is to buy a bigger card, once go back home export it out or
switch off the cam, bring home export it out to your computer? or
buy another SD card, when you have an event, swap it ?
