A safety officer is facing trial in the High Court for raping his biological mother, 56, at their home.

The 32-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces one count of rape and two counts of outrage of modesty, all allegedly committed on Oct 4, 2013.

Besides allegedly raping her, he is also accused of restraining her while kissing her breasts and forcing her to touch him sexually.

The man, first charged in 2013, was originally scheduled to go on trial yesterday in an eight-day hearing.

However, the trial did not start. Instead, two legal heavyweights, Senior Counsel Harry Elias and Senior Counsel Chelva Rajah, turned up.

The trial was postponed for the man to decide if he wanted the two prominent lawyers - assigned to the case under the Law Society's Criminal Legal Aid Scheme - to represent him as defence lawyers.

If the accused agrees, they will be his third set of lawyers.

He was first represented by Mr Mathew Kurian and Mr Rajan Supramaniam, who were engaged by his brother. The two lawyers later discharged themselves.

The accused then applied for help under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme. Mr Gino Hardial Singh, who came on board in March, no longer acts for him.

Asked about the senior counsel's involvement, a Law Society spokesman said both are strong supporters of the scheme.

Rape carries up to 20 years' jail, and caning or a fine. Molestation with restraint carries between two and 10 years' jail and caning; the other molestation charge carries up to two years' jail, with caning or a fine, or both. A date has yet to be set for the next hearing.

think the scammer will be experienced enough to jam brake one time and enough to cause chain accident one. these insurance scammers should be punished more severely. :pissed-off:

when I see those keep braking on expressway when traffic is smooth flowing, I will change lane and overtake or drop back.

have to keep braking means judgement and/or skill is questionable, either way, would stay clear to avoid being collateral damage in case of any eventualities.

26-year-old man arrested for murder at Boon Lay Drive; victim said to be his girlfriend
PUBLISHED 6 HOURS AGO UPDATED 12 MIN AGO

SINGAPORE - A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a murder at Boon Lay Drive on Thursday (Nov 26) night.
The police said it received a call for assistance from a unit at Block 268B Boon Lay Drive at about 8.16pm.
Upon police's arrival, a 23-year-old woman was found lying motionless at the scene, police said in a statement released on Friday morning.
She was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead at about 11.14pm.
26-year-old man arrested for murder at Boon Lay Drive, Nov 27
The Straits Times understands that the suspect lives with his parents and older brother in a four-room HDB unit on the 11th floor. The victim, who had been stabbed with a knife measuring about 15cm, is believed to be his girlfriend.
Traces of blood could still be seen on the walls near the common rubbish chute, where the stabbing had occurred. It is about a metre away from the suspects unit.
On Thursday evening at about 8pm, neighbours heard loud quarelling lasting about 10 minutes between a man and a woman along the corridor outside the flat.
A neighbour, who wanted to be known only as Mr Su, told The Straits Times that the suspects mother was also present at that time. She could be heard frantically urging the couple to stop their argument.
I thought it was just an ordinary quarrel between a couple at first. But when the mother shouted at me to call the police, I realised it was serious. I walked out from my unit and when I was about five metres away, I saw a woman lying in a pool of blood, added the 50-year-old repairman, who lives in a unit on the same floor.
Shocked, Mr Su returned to his unit immediately to alert the police.
He described the suspect as a gentle and courteous man, who is about 1.7m tall, while the victim was slightly shorter at about 1.6m. He added that the couple appeared to be loving and this was the first heated argument he had heard between them.
Another neighbour, Madam Yang, was in her bedroom when she heard a short high-pitched scream, after a period of loud quarelling.
The mother was crying loudly and screaming at her son to stop, the housewife said.
She added that the older woman had asked her son repeatedly: Why are you carrying a knife? You will go to jail.
Madam Yang said she does not know the couple well, but the family of four would greet her whenever they meet along the corridor.
The suspect will be charged in Court on Saturday for the offence of Murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries the death penalty.

SINGAPORE - Unhappy that a train commuter had jumped queue, a regular serviceman had a dispute with the man and subsequently punched him once in the left eye in the MRT train.
On Tuesday (Dec 8), Kelvin Poon Kai Chen, 22, was fined $3,000 after he admitted hurting Mr Choo Chin Huat, 35, a Malaysian principal engineer, in the train going from Bedok towards Kembangan on Feb 6 this year.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Kong Kuek Foo told the court that at about 5pm that day Poon, a lance corporal, and his girlfriend were waiting for the train at the Bedok station.
When the train arrived, Mr Choo jumped the queue and boarded the train ahead of them. The couple were not happy with Mr Choo.
A dispute broke out between Poon and Mr Choo, during which Poon pushed the victim's hand away. The victim purportedly challenged Poon.
Two commuters, both students, tried to separate them and calm Poon down by saying "chill'' and "cool down''.
Suddenly, Poon punched Mr Choo once in his left eye, damaging his spectacles and hurting his left eye.
Poon was then restrained and escorted off the MRT train by the station staff at Kembangan station.
Mr Choo sought treatment at Changi General Hospital. He complained of headache, pain around his left eye and giddiness. He was found to have an eye contusion.
Poon's lawyer, Ms Alice Tan, a Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (Clas) Fellow, said in mitigation that Poon was most remorseful for what he had done and, on hindsight, realised it was foolish.
She said he has an unblemished record and is looking forward to a fruitful and meaningful career in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Poon could have been jailed for up to two years and fined up to $5,000 for voluntarily causing hurt.

It is prob as what you say, civil case and there was no arrest on the spot.

Victim goes to hospital and gets his injuries recorded and treated. With this evidence, he can lodge a magistrate complaint. Then if the court decides that there is a case, the police will be assigned to investigate and report the outcome. After that, all involved will show up in court, and judgement dispensed accordingly. In this case, the aggressor was fined.

If you are victim of an assault, quickly go to hospital and get the injury recorded (e.g. swelling), before it subsides. At the same time make a police report.

That will help if you want to get the aggressor punished by the law. Else very often they can get off scot-free

i guess the security must have come and called the police too as the MRT is kind of enclosed place and both cannot go scot free that easily as there are video cameras (i'm very sure in the MRT stations) and statements must have been recorded too

Man dies after falling from 5th floor of Wisma Atria
    UPDATED 4 HOURS AGO

SINGAPORE - A 48-year-old man fell from the fifth floor of Wisma Atria, a shopping mall on Orchard Road, on Thursday evening at about 9.50pm.
He later succumbed to his injuries at the Singapore General Hospital, police said.
The police are investigating the case as an unnatural death.
Eye-witness Gary Cheok, 31, told The Straits Times that he was having dinner with his friend at the food court in Wisma Atria when he heard a loud bang.
"People started screaming, and my friend Ernest, who is an A&E doctor, immediately went to the ledge to check it out," said Mr Cheok, a physiotherapist. "When Ernest came back to the table, he appeared flustered, took a stethoscope from his bag and rushed down."
Mr Cheok added that he initially thought someone had fainted. But when the commotion grew, Mr Cheok said he thought the situation was graver than expected and decided to bring his friend's belongings down to him on the first floor.
The victim was a man who was wearing a white t-shirt, cargo pants and shoes, Mr Cheok said. "The man was lying face-down and there was blood everywhere, and blood coming out of his ears too."
Mr Cheok added that his friend, Ernest, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim and was assisted by a woman who said she was a nurse.
"I want to commend the people who stepped up to help, I later found out that in his rush down, Ernest had slipped on a slippery patch near the escalator and fractured and chipped his tooth."
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to an incident requiring ambulance assistance at Wisma Atria on Thursday.
"Upon SCDF's arrival, members of the public, including a man and a woman who identified themselves as a doctor and a nurse, were already administering CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) on an unconscious man," said an SCDF spokesman.
The man was later taken to the Singapore General Hospital. CPR was also administered en-route to the hospital, SCDF said.
A spokesman from YTL Starhill Global REIT, which manages the mall, said the incident took place at 9.50 pm, and that the police and paramedics were notified immediately.
"Based on CCTV footage, the man appeared to have jumped from the fifth floor next to the escalator," the spokesman added.
He said the property manager is currently assisting the police with their investigations.

Woman stressful or customs officer more stressful

Woman offers sex, watch and $14,000 as bribes for US customs officer to turn a blind eye to undeclared luxury goods
    http://singaporeseen...to-turn-a-blind

Hong Yang, 55, was at the John F. Kennedy International Airport with her sister and daughter last July when she was caught with $160,000 worth of undeclared luxury goods.

According to an article by Shanghaiist published on Dec 10, she had arrived from Paris with the purchases hidden in her luggage, which included designer bags, a fur coat, diamond jewellery and watches.

When she was caught, Hong Yang first attempted to bribe the custom official with a note that had her name and number on it. She then offered to throw in a watch and an additional SGD14,000 (US$10,000) for him to let her go.

After the officer returned with a hidden recording device, Hong Yang took it up a notch by proposing to sleep with him and even bring him to China if he turned a blind eye to the offence.

    Taxi driver stressful [sweatdrop]

Woman spews vulgarities about how taxi meter is 'programmed' to cheat -- then hits driver and jumps out of moving cab
    http://singaporeseen...hen-hits-driver

Claiming that the taxi meter was 'programmed' to over-charge and cheat, a female passenger started hurling vulgarities at the cabby, Stomper Sha.

The Stomper said that the woman started beating him on the head after her vulgar tirade, before jumping out of the taxi even though they were still on the move.

Sha, who then called the police, shared with Stomp a video of the woman's rant.

In it, she can be heard repeatedly calling Sha a 'f***ing idiot' and accusing him of 'cheating' her.

She also kept demanding for him to show his face so that she could take a video and to alight the taxi even though they were on the highway.

"Singapura is a f***ing stupid country. You f***ing people love to cheat people," she can be heard saying.
