My audio head unit caught fire after less than a week old. I m waiting to see what tan chong has to say, and how they are going to commercially compensate me. What a disappointment from nissan.

[dizzy] Sounds serious! Was it the original Head unit or the one with the GPS/reverse camera unit?

It was the new set with gps n reverse camera. I am waiting for tan chong to provide me the investigation report and full explanation. I will demand them to compensate me for the new car.

Towed away on monday morning. Tan Chong really screwed up, tow services takes more than 2 hours to arrive. Replaced the head unit within 24 hours plus ionised the air cond system (very smoky and pungent)

think locally fitted right? installation must be not good resulting in short circuit.

my current nissan's HU also locally fitted. ok after 8 years. you damn suay, kanna bad installation.

I didn't change the HU (wasn't available when I collected my car). Got a separate Garmin GPS set (been using that since my last Qashqai) and using the same set for reverse camera AV feed.

Sounds like installation might have caused the problem. Must go TC and bang table.

If I install front and rear camera, tan chong will be happy to deny warranty. Better let system run in for few months before install anything

China local brand electronics is 50% hit or run. I kept the default HU after confirming the local set is from China local brand. I don't think this is due to installation.

Think TC will be recalling all those who has fitted the unit.

Did the SE or TC confirm that any third party installation for AMP/Camera will void warranty? My previous car from Kah Motor, they say you can amend any HeadUnit or ICE system and warranty still stay.

My upgraded head unit with gps - radio cuts in and out and bluetooth doesn't work. Brought it to TC and the agent change the entire set but still the same problem. Apparently the agent is trying to resolve the issue.

Caught fire??? Sounds scary - contemplating whether to seek a refund and put back the original head unit and but garmin with reverse cam separately.

Any others with problems with the upgraded head unit or are we the only 'lucky' ones with problems???

Mine is Sylphy collected about 2-3 weeks ago. The head unit is similar to the locally fitted Qashqai HU, i think from Shenzhen Yilongte. On collection day, the radio did not work. So they changed a new one. Then it triggered engine warning which they took another day to clear. So I spent one whole day and drove home with my old car. only managed to collect new car end of the next day.

Now with this fire (if true), I am worried about the quality and safety of the HU. Do keep us updated on Tan Chong's actions. they compensated me with a NPMP package for the wasted day.

So far Tan Chong quite okay with any change or installation of additional components especially HU and cameras (recorder or reverse camera), don't think they will void our warranty. My family has been driving Nissan (3 different people) and we have changed HU, install stuff before without TC voiding the car warranty

Collected mine today. Indeed the radio keeps cutting in n out when gps is on. Will monitor it. I just notice the prb only.
Gps didn't have sound? Haven't have time to play around the hud much.
Haven't tried the bluetooth yet also.

Went to install back my ionizer n car cam, the front styling plate, all the chrome trims n kickplate after collection n now doing ppr at pierce.
    Drive is damn quiet!
Will post if hud catches fire!
Anyone still interested to get any accessories?
I might buy some in again. The chrome trims makes our qashqai looks more premium like xtrail. :)

If you are using the new HU with the integrated GPS, the sound level from the GPS is proportional to the sound level you are listening to your radio / CD .

You can go to setting, and adjust the " mix " proportion, the lower the "mix " means the softer the sound of your radio / CD and louder the voice from the GPS. If you do not want to on any radio / CD, but just GPS, than you can select " AUX " ( only if you did not attached any input to the AUX ), and you can control the loudness of the GPS voice using your volume knob / steering control.

Same model, same OEM, just different casing/packaging. The OEM produced for hundreds of different car brands and models. The electronics are the same, packaged differently to fit different cars. Can see from their website or facebook, shared by kind bros earlier in this thread.

Troubleshoot with Tan Chong on the system with their test unit. It appears the system is designed for Europe climate. Once u set to 23c it defaults to ambient air intake. 22c and below, the cooling will be set at internal circulation.

Tan Chong will investigate with their UK plant. They said nobody except myself and another xtrail owner had highlighted this.

Can I ask where you do your paint protection? How long is the process?

I went to Peirce Glass Coating.

    Paste from faq
What is the difference between Pika Pika Rain (PPR) and other waxes / sealant / nano-coat?
PPR is patented glass coating that lasts up to 3-5 years while wax/nano-coat does not last long (only 2 weeks to 12 months). Thereafter, car owners must spend money to re-apply a fresh layer of wax / nano coat to maintain the shine, cover the physical scratches and exhibit hydrophobic feature.

This is my first time trying too. The only difference I know is they only do coating on body paints and bumper.
They are not those typical grooming coy that will do invasive sealant and polish or coating to rims and glass.
Its very good for newly collected cars!
Once collected u shu send your car to them!

    http://www.peircecar...ss-coating.html
    https://www.facebook...coating?fref=ts
For new cars they will do a direct coat over on the new paint.
Before u get ur ride make appt once u got ur date of collection.
I collected my car bout 3pm, went to workshop n get all my accessories installed. They will do new cars on weekdays after 8pm. Takes about 2hrs.
We need to maintain by washing with shampoo at least weekly, n clean off water n birdshit as fast as we spotted one :)

So far so good for me. Today rained 7hrs straight, i just wipe with water but my white color needed some strength to clean off dirt for some parts.. Other colors shu b easier to maintain.

For your info, I am driving the new Qashqai and have set the air-con to 24c with re-circulation. No issue at all.

    These are my observations:
    1. If I shut down air conditioning before engine shut, the next engine start following an air conditioning start will trigger ambient air circulation.
    2. Even when I manually depress the recirculation button, at some point during cruising it will jump to ambient air circulation.

This intelligent car cannot be that dumb in my opinion. I believe it is a logic fault that needs to be corrected by Tan Chong. I am scheduled for meeting with them next Monday.

When you turn off the air-cond manually, it will trigger ambient air circulation. I feel it is designed in this manner to ventilate the cabin when there is no air-conditioning. Don't think it is a bug though [:|]

Hi, your practice is similar to me as i will always turn off the ac before engine shut but i don't have the same issues as you.

It does look to be logic fault to me. Make sure TC solve the issue.

I'm still trying to figure out the AC recirculation/ambient setting for the past 3 months ever since getting the car. Sometimes it stays as recirculation and sometimes it will default to ambient air when I just turn on the AC with auto setting.

Now used to just pressing the recirculation button with the Auto button whenever I turn on my AC (usually I turn off the AC before I off my car engine)

I'll bring up to the SA tomorrow when I send in my car for 5k servicing tomorrow morning and see what they say.

I sent in my car for TC to do the software upgrade for the new HU set, will collect later today. Previously sent in and TC change 1 new HU set but was unable to resolve the issues.

Hopefully the radio cut in and out and bluetooth pairing issues will be resolved after this.

Also asked them to check the wiring - text technician and sales rep about 1 of the Qashqai car owner's HU unit catching fire, none respond on this.

    Fingers XXX.

I noted on the ambient air circulation prb.. its kinda random for me. It happened to me once today but after that i cannot replicate the prb. Yesterday also happened once.
And yes i have the habit of turning off aircon before switching car off. Isn't that what we supposed to do to prolong aircon life?

My gps has no voice, need to send in for repair. Probably send in at 1k servicing. Lazy to go down specially for it.

The bug on ac seems intermittent for me as well. It appears it normally happens during a wet day. Tan Chong needs to explain why.

The tell tale signs on the head unit are frozen screen and self reboot during cruise. U need to take note before it fails.

I just read the manual again. When u press and hold down either the air recirculation or outside air circulation button, the auto air circulation will be triggered.

I read from another forum (for old xtrail) the auto will be triggered by pressing and holding down more than 1.5sec.

Probably 1.5s is too fast? We may be triggering the auto system unknowingly?

I doubt so. This happens to me during cruising. The air recirculation trips to outside air without me touching the panel. I am under the impression that it is a logic fault.

For my AC unit, everytime I turn it off, it will default back to Ambient circulation setting. Whenever I turn on the AC, I will have to change it to Recirculation manually. So far, it doesn't reset back to Ambient circulation during my drives, maybe because I didn't press and hold the recirculation button long enough for the Auto recirculation-ambient setting to kick in.

Now doing my 5K servicing at Bukit Timah and reflected to the SA, hopefully they can give me an answer.

My experience is similar to yours, except sometimes during start it goes to recirculation by default. However it will jump to ambient circulation during ride.

If during start the ac is set by default to ambient and I manually depressed to recirculation, then it will not toggle during ride.

They changed my head unit and last night I have to reset the clock 3 times to get it right.

So much for a smart car design.

Please share what tc says to you. I suspect they will say the ac logic is designed to UK climate and they will check with UK. I think they have no clue what is going on.

Yes true enough, once I turn off ac, it defaults back to ambient circulation and after turning on, it still stays at ambient circulation.

I tried activating auto circulation (supposed to blink a few times) but it didn't switch between the 2 circulation modes...

Btw, I notice there's no locking mechanism at the rear passenger seats..

After activating central lock, passenger can still unlock door from inside (unless door child lock is activated)!
I heard this is euro specs?

Central locking is to prevent unlocking from outside?

I was told the same thing by the Service Advisors: the AC is UK design/setting, need to set to lower temperature (advised to set to 20 degrees) to prevent the auto switcher between Ambient and Recirculation air. Said they will reflect up to the UK plant to see if anything can be done. Looks like have to live with doing the manual changing each time.

Tc is really disappointing. How can they import a car that does not suit our local climate? An intelligent car, I doubt so.

We cannot be setting this manually at each start for the next 10 years.

Did they say when they will provide update to you?
What if they say we have to live with this forever?

Fresh air in uk, probably yes at the suburbs. In Singapore, you smell the carbon monoxide at the city.
Issue here is: don't sell it as a continental feature and market it as a japanese price if it does not suit the local context.

My previous car is not considered smart, but u feel smarter driving it for a decade.

In my opinion, they failed to live up to the commitments to the consumer.

    I don't think 20degrees will help.
Prius had this auto climate issue since 2012.
    http://priuschat.com...-2#post-1775235
Read this. The auto climate will switch above 50f (10degrees celsius).
They should just program and set the recirculation as default.

Actually a lot of continental cars (eg. BMW) have this 'feature'. it came about because people were dozing off while driving due to lack of fresh oxygen since the AC wasn't letting fresh air in. The re-circulation mode is to keep out outside air when stuck in traffic or when passing through nasty smelling areas.

I had this issue with my Peugeot too. I got around this by setting the a/c to auto, manually selecting the recirculate button. When switching off the car, I would switch off the a/c (but leave the fan blower on). That means when I switch the car on again, the fan is already on. Then I switch the a/c on again and it remembers my settings.

In fact I am doing the same thing in my Kizashi to avoid this problem.

It's a compromise... I hope the fan's electric demands are mild enough that I don't put too much load demand on the battery/ starter/ alternator etc.. using this method.

Just returned from a long trip to Cherating Malaysia. Forgot to bring my iPod and ended up streaming from my smartphone (non-apple) using bluetooth. Works well with the factory fitted HU. I was offered the upgrade but I choose to keep the original HU after some testing and checking.

Covered total of about 900km and I must said it's a very nice and relax drive as compared to my previous MPV. For some reason not as tired as I used to be driving such long distance. The car grip the road very well with all the twist and turn.

Unfortunately my fender was hit by a big stone and now there is a 50 cents dent and some scratches. A patch up and full fender re-spray will probably restore to the original look. I guess these are the risks of driving far North.

Need some help as I was told qashqai wiring is different from Japanese makes. Also there seem to be issues relating to rear camera affecting radio reception. Also heard the front camera may affect engine start signal.

    Anyone can share experience?

any problem with the drive itself? all happy?

My own thought on the ride so far:

Control/Steering - Light and easy to move around, when cornering the Steering will become firm which is good.

Ride - Body roll is not significant given a typical SUV is tall. Ride is quiet with tyre road noise once awhile. I do feel floating at times maybe because i'm not used to driving SUV as was driving a Civic previously. Overall i will say is a decent ride with good comfortable seats. Side mirror offer good decent view as the size is big to offset poor visibility from the rear C pillar. Hill-stop function does help when entering/exiting parking gantry.

Fuel Consumption - Not that good, as despite 50% urban & 50% expressway only can hit ard 9.6km/l. Best saving fuel at 1.5rpm with speed ard 80-85km/hr on highway with cruise control on. Take note afterall it is a 2.0 liter car and heavy body weight.

How much u paid per dent? No need respray?

As long as there is no paint chipped off, no need to respray. I have total of 4 dents, paid $70, so average of $17.50 per dent but I think it'll be different rate if it is just 1 dent. Still much cheaper than re-spray.

Unfortunately the fender side that get hit by stone, there are paint chipped off, even though PDR managed to restore the surface but will still need to re-spray. Still considering as it's not that obvious now.

    Price sounds good!
    Fender respray about $100
Wait for more damage then go respray ba.

My upgraded audio unit change 2-3 units already but still i get bad reception issues and blue tooth problems like the other party can't hear me properly coz too noisy or doesn't connect. I am seriously considering seeking a refund and asking them to put back the original unit and getting the Garmin gps with reverse cam!

Bros with original radio head unit, any problem with reception?

After paying $880.00 to upgraded head unit that was made in China. I've the same problem here blue tooth reception poor. Front speaker have humming noise .When back to Tan Chong service center. The service manager reduce the blue tooth mic sensitivity and ask me to try it. This time it get even worse. My friend said he is struggling to hear me when I used blue tooth to talk to him. I called Tan Chong service manager 3 times that day. but no one answer the call. I called up the feed back hotline to complain . To date Tan Chong has not call me back.

Today is the first time I'm seeing the Hill Start Assist in effect. If this is activated you will see the green indicator light. Works as per specs.

I will try. But the service manager did not wants to answer my calls and did not call me back. Called up the hotline and complain already. To date, tan chong did not call me back.

For those who wants to upgrade their head unit form tan chong, think twice. I got a feeling that they are unable to rectify the problem. I hope I'm wrong.

My first 2 service jobs for this problematic HU was at Bt timah. Service was commendable as the service tech at least went through what they did. They changed the unit 2 times but I still had problems with my bluetooth as in other parties cannot hear me properly.

3rd time was at Ubi when I sent in car for 1k servicing. I think they change another unit of HU and this time was worse, I couldnt even connect to BT. (coz BT number different but probably recycled coz I had the BT ref. already synced with by hp) Service at Ubi terrible, don't even bother to tell me what was done plus I found light scratches on my bumper! I asked the service guy and was appalled that he said they will try to polish it the next time I send my car in and worse come to worse they will do a touch up??? I told him I will not accept a touch up coz this is a brand new car! I got him to acknowledge this issue by writing on my invoice, though he only indicated it as "to remove stain at bumper". [:|]

Btw I paid $1k, how come yours only $880?

Ubi servicing is the worst, n the good sa moved to lengkee. So either go bt timah or leng kee.

I ever kena once those ubi dorks pumped my tyres to 270 yes its 270 i kid u not. N i only realized after my fc dropped to 7.x when my usual fc is 11 range.

Ya the hill assist is great feature.
Too bad qashqai doesn't hav hill descend assist. Wonder all these features can b "flash" into memory or not lol.
If your control panel is on the chasis mode, everytime a feature kicks into effect it will turn blue. For eg when negotiating a bend or on slope.

I did my sylphy 1k service at bk timah a few weeks ago. Ok so far. But because it rained, they did not wash the car. Think they should still wash cos rain does not clean away the dirt.

From my experience, most workshops and tyre shops will overinflate tyres. I usually get a range of 250 to 270 kpa. I always check after getting car back and release accordingly to my preferred level 210 to 230. A good air gauge is one of the most important cheap accessories I keep in my car.

But really, tyre overinflation should not be the root cause of fc dropping from 11 to 7.x. 270 is not that bad.

Heartache this morning. Noticed a crack on my windscreen about 10cm in length... Need to get it replaced by Tan Chong but have to wait for stock for windscreen to arrive. Luckily doesn't obstruct my view

Ya when I collected my car the rims were damndirty, it looked like put in the warehouse 3mths with cobweb on the rims.

Fedup, but I didn't have time so I just asked them to hand over.
When I went servicing, I specifically tell them to wash my car esp the rims cos its still damn dirty.
End up they wash just one of the rims which was super dirty!

I just checked the default pressure on our tires, its 37psi (bout 255)
Qashqai should taking 33 for front n 31 for rear (written on your main door)

I agree it should differ so much.
But they did pumped 39psi (270) so after I reduce to 33-34 my fc recovered after 2 tanks of petrol..
