But guess there are some who like it, coz it makes the Mazda price "appear" closer to Honda / Toyota.

it is also liked by those who have decided on the car for non-price reasons as they get a nice surprise on the price.

Guess end of the day, nothing beats going down to the showroom.

also showing the "real" price is bad for those who are selling used mazda... :P

1. There is no where dedicated to put your key. When you unlock the door, few people would put the key back into the bag or pocket, right? After all, you need to use it when you step out of the car to lock the door again. So, I unlock the door and have several choices of where to put the key. When I step out, I gotta remember where I put that darn key or did it drop under the seat.

2. It is a hot day. I want to start the car and turn the aircon on before jumping in. Can I do that? Nope! Because I have to step on the footbrake and press the Start button simultaneously to get the engine started. So, I have to actually sit in the hot seat to start the car!

To go from 1st to 2nd gear, you pull the gear stick towards you. To go from, say 4th gear to 3rd gear, you push the gear stick away from you.

Your keyless function should work by just touching a small button on the door handle... you should not have to remove your key from your pocket/bag... Same when you exit the car, this button should lock your car. Is yours Standard or Deluxe?

As for starting car to cool it off before you get in... if yours is Deluxe, maybe there is remote start feature?

In the gear-change thing... I was under the impression that the SkyActiv Drive transmission will go up a gear if you pull it backwards and go down a gear if you push it forwards. Makes no sense for it to switch directions when there is a -+ print on the lever surround already.

Mine is a Standard. Keyless would be pressing a button on the 'key' to unlock the doors. I must've gotten the terminology wrong.

Not a Deluxe, so no remote start feature.

The gear changing - moving off from rest, from 1st gear to 2nd gear, I pull it down towards me; and keep pulling down till 6th gear. To go from 6th to 5th, I push away from me; and so forth.

It is that I am used to the Altis (or any other automatic car), where if I am driving on the road and encounter a hill, I would pull the lever towards me to get into a low gear.

nice write up and thanks for sharing .... hahahhaa .. the part yr missus drove off without the key must be a nightmare.
Numerous car reviewers have praised Mazda for doing it the right way
There's a reason why manufacturers like BMW & Mazda has the gear "pull back" to move up gear & "push forward" to down a gear..... It's faster & more instinctive when u r accelerating fast & manually changing an automatic gearbox
Numerous car reviewers have praised Mazda for doing it the right way

My FIAT GP has the gear up push up orientation where the rest of the family is the other way around. Go figure!
Anyway, I am getting used to it and life goes on.
Just sharing tots on m3
Interior
- conti feel with luxurious leather wraps
- electric controls on driver chair
Dislikes
- tight space for both front and back package with low headroom
Handling
- very engaging drive
- smooth gear change even at hi rev
- I-stop is subjective. Generally its isn't disruptive and the engine start-stop takes getting used too
Dislikes
- the long bonnet takes a while to get a better feel for
- engine note when revving
Power
- Surprisingly feels more powerful that I expected when moving off
- power comes in linearly
Dislikes
- had the impression it had more power to give until you floor it. That's all it has.
Verdict
- I have been poisoned lol.
Dislikes
- had the impression it had more power to give until you floor it. That's all it has.

did you floor the Elantra? I did .... hahahaha ...
Likes:
- great overall package. Imo the best deal in town. Reason why I ditched the other cars I've viewed. Initially wanted an Qashqai, but it's a 1.2... sure there's a turbo but it's not full time turbo. Plus I do more than just commuting so a BB sedan may be a better idea.
- premium feel throughout. Near full spec car, the best in it's class.
- wow the drive is really enthusiastic! You're always the first off after the lights have changed.
- cruise control is awesome. The feel of the pickup when changing speed is something I wish it were the same in normal auto.
- engine sound is spectacular if you're into this sort of thing. Else it's a noisy car.
Dislikes:
- driving position: this is my main peeve. It's hell trying to figure out the right driving position. Roof is low, front bonnet is long. Sure it has power seats, but with its infinite combinations and no memory, try switching back to your setting after your spouse had driven.
- engine rev at cold start is akin to an jet engine going off!
- occasional sounds from suspension when going over various types of humps. Sg is hump city. Going to report this at 1k servicing. Any owners here can chip in on this? I've read about suspension noise even before I collected my car and it was reported that the current batches had this issue addressed.
For people coming from other brands, Mazda's "performance oriented" shifting direction feels backwards... But at least it's not as bad as the old Hold-system... I'm dealing with this atm and it's awful imo.
I guess the car industry hasn't standardised the 'tiptonic' system as yet.

Regarding creaking noise in the suspension/dampers. Yes, I started hearing it after 5,000km. Thought it would go away but didn't. Mentioned it during the 10,000 service and apparently, the fixed it. Didn't tell me how though. The sound is now gone but I think it will come back.

This happened to my old Altis at age 8 years old. Mechanic said it can last till 10 years old if didn't do too much humping at high speeds. He was explaining something about leak, will come back again even repair now. Must change the whole thing but will cost money. So, I decided for cheap, don't do anything and bear with the creaking noise.

So, hopefully, this Mazda won't creak me to death for the next 9 years.

still couldn't get the confirmation what caused it...

I have dipmy head and look down... in front ofevery wheel... there is this rubber stuff in front... protection flap or whatever you called it...
unsure if this is the sound caused by its impact/contact with the hump....

This is my second week with the car. I heard it too, coming from the front suspension when going over hump a little too quickly. Its not very loud and sometimes can be obscured by the sound of the tires hitting the hump. My wife did not detect anything. I still have some ways to go before my first servicing. So hope to hear what they say...
Read a blog of an owner in U.S. Who had the same noise. Apparently it's due to too little grease on the bearings. They greased the bearings and the sound was gone. Imo I prefer a fix rather than a workaround. But I hope it's due to too little grease.

(for iPhone): go to Settings > Notifications > Messages > and turn on Allow Notification.
Mazda connect: Somewhere - can't recall - in settings, look for SMS or messages notification and turn on. Go to Communication. SMS should be active. Select this.
Have someone send you an SMS. A window should show up. Select read SMS and lady will read it out to you when you.
Sorry the terms may be different. But you shouldn't have any issues. Hope it works!

Apparently for me the sound only comes when going over a particular type of hump. It's like a 'tank' type of sound. Prob is it's intermittent.

I'm driving a 2012 Mazda 3 and encounter a metallic "clank" sound when going over certain hump going up slope.

I don't think it's suspension noise. Feels as if the car bounces up, then down, hitting something on the top of the hump. There's no such sound if I go over the hump slowly.

It's strange because when I look at the underside of the car, there's nothing hanging so low that can possibly be hitting or scraping. Compared to other cars, it does not look much different.

Anybody else encounter this problem? Got to check with the servicing next time, whether there's any obvious damage on the underside... but nowadays you don't get to talk to anyone else other than the "service consultant" who's not the actual person getting his hands dirty..
what's going on... mazda listed price drop by 9k today according to sgcarmart

The 2014 Mazda 3 is a different car from 2012 so your observation is just for your higher mileage car.

for new owners, just tell the mech when you send in the cars for servicing and they will test drive the car with you and advise their next course of action.

My experience with the Mazda 3SP - The front absorbers were changed twice in 8 years quite low mileage. I guess it was because of the weight. No noise negotiating humps, because the suspension was more rigid.

This new Mazda 3, initially got the sound when going over humps, especially the rather high ones, but not when negotiating the humps slowly. Highlighted that to the engineer, and had a test drive over some humps at the car park in Ubi. No sound heard.

It has something to do with the height of the humps and the speed you negotiate them. But if it gets worse, just report on the matter. The present Mz3 has a softer suspension for city driving. That could be the problem. Still, not so bothersome to me, as the engine roar is muchlouder! lol .
I guess vezel sold more than civic. I hardly see new civics.

Vezel is definitely a nice and good buy, though from PI. Also it uses CVT. Civics does not use CVT, not as nice looking as Vezel, and too expensive.

If you think of a car's life span in Singapore, Vezel is the better buy. All it needs is for Malaysian Honda to sell Vezel. Then no problem of spare parts.

Not sure if it uses the same engine as the HRV. Toyota Allion uses the same engine as theVios. Thus Toyota JB even servicesmy colleague'sAllion very thoroughly, including changing gear box oil, at the cost of RM$400+.
Malaysian HRVs run a 1.8L engine. The Vezel and Kah HRV run 1.5 but different engines with the PI one being the more powerful.

Hi bro Spring,

Good question, I want to know too.

I had been monitoring the pricelist of Mazdas for about 6 months now (from COE 60k++ (pre facelift), 70++k ;peak till now 65k after facelift). The most obvious difference is that their base price had come down so much......even before the various discounts especially the one bro Spring asked....?

Looks like Mazda is giving back all the CEVS rebate + COE difference since then. Hence, I think this is a good time to buy (only if you are ready financially).

FYI, I do not work for Mazda, just like their cars, think they did a good job vs the rest so far in terms of value....

I am already a convert :) well, cannot get the lowest, just enjoying my ride :)

Think by year end drop to $90k. Those who can wait, dun rush in. Unless you need a car urgently and etc then it's really a good price to buy

Prices were at the lowest ever. The last time COE reached 57/58k level, Standard was selling for 107k. Last weekend it was $99,888, which is a 7k difference despite CEVS rebate being cut.

TE changed their strategy, they went from listing gross prices to nett prices
They will keep some potential buyers out by listing gross price. Generally Mazda is one of the more expensive jap cars behind Honda and Toyota.
Your phrase is not correct. All the cars bring in by AD are expensive. You should be able to find reasonably price jap cars from PI.

Anyway, i think it is still an attractive price, because a few weeks back the M3 standard was going at this price.

Wow, that means the over trade hidden extra cash discount is $4k above paper value. Very good deal.
Considering those who bought recently at $110,888 and kept saying you won't get this price le cos last time was clearing existing stocks.
It's all marketing gimmicks.

Yup. agreed. the specification for this car is very high for the price...
competitors includes Altis, K3, Elantra..i think they are quite far behind in terms of value...
MIJ somemore ::)

i think based on listed price, if you dont have existing car to trade in...108.8k -/+ 1k is about there...
dont think 104.8k is do-able without trading in etc...

btw, other AD is quoting me 300 to 700 bucks for my 9yrs 7mths car

at 110.888k, i wont consider buy mazda 3 Deluxe anyway :)

Those who got at $110,888, what was the COE price compared to now?

Its just fluctuating in accordance with the COE price.
Not only that, Mazda has given back the CEVS rebates directly to the customer and trade in for old old car, even it's due to be scrapped in a few months, it's $4k above paper value. This is really a fantastic deal. In June, the over trade hidden CASH discount was only $2k.

Seems like Mazda got many orders. Must be something right with their design. The orders are flying off e shelf. Lol
Best selling and most value for money MIJ car as compared to tomyam Toyota, Nissan and Honda. The Mazda 3 and 6 are like the new kings of the road, got chance to topple Altis and Camry which are both made in Thailand.

Damn value for money!!!! I would say extremely good price. Back then in June, cash over trade hidden discount was only $1-2k. Seems like for your $4k cash over trade, you really warned it big time. Enjoy your ride.
