A woman was killed by an elevator in New York after her leg got caught in the lift door.
The unfortunate event took place on Wednesday, 14 December.
The 41-year-old woman, whose name has yet to be released, had boarded an elevator on the ground floor when her leg got stuck between the lift doors.
She was then pulled into the lift shaft and bodily dragged within, killing her.
This is a reminder of another horrifying elevator accident that took place in Houston, Texas in 2003.
In that accident, Dr Hitoshi Nikaidoh, was decapitated while boarding a faulty elevator.
The elevator was understood to be under maintenance but the maintenance sign had been taken away prior to the accident.
Dr Nikaidoh had boarded the faulty elevator together with physician assistant Karin Leah Steinau at the second floor in the hospital they worked at.
Steinau had stepped into the elevator once it arrived, and before Nikaidoh could enter the carriage fully, the elevator doors shut on his shoulders, rendering him unable to move.
"He tried to pull back and he couldn't" said Steinau, who witnessed Dr Nikaidoh's last moments.
The elevator doors would usually open if it detected anything caught between its doors, but according to her, the elevator began its ascend "without hesitation".
The ceiling then decapitated Dr Nikaidoh's head, leaving his ear, lower lip, teeth and jaw still intact with the rest of his body, which fell to the bottom of the elevator shaft.
Steinau was then left trapped in the elevator with Dr Nikaidoh's partially severed head for over an hour.
