Members of the public are talking about a wanted poster for a "con family".
The poster, stating "Con Family, Beware" was put up two days ago by Mr Wu (40, marketing head) at locations like Jurong, Woodlands, Yishun and Tampines.
In the poster, a $2,000 reward is offered for an alleged con man known as Ah Fu (Ah Hock).
Mr Wu explained to reporters why he printed 15,000 coloured posters to search for this "con family".
He had gotten to know Ah Fu, supposedly a bird's nest dealer in his 40s, about six months ago.
Ah Fu had told Mr Wu that he wanted to rent out a four-room flat in Jurong West for a period of two years. But the rental had to be paid to him beforehand in a lump sum.
At the time, Mr Wu had a friend looking to rent a flat to house some workers, so he introduced the two men to each other.
Mr Wu's friend was very happy with the Jurong West flat and signed a rental contract with Ah Fu.
An upfront lump sum payment of $20,000 was then paid to Ah Fu to cover the full two years of rental.
However, just before the workers were to move into the flat this month, Ah Fu informed Mr Wu that he intends to sell the Jurong West flat as he had found an interested buyer.
Mr Wu said, "Ah Fu promised to refund the $20,000 after he sold his flat but he just disappeared and won't even answer his phone. We had trusted him completely."
Mr Wu was told by the con man that he had properties in Yishun, Jurong and Thomson Road.
"He showed me a private house at Thomson Road and said it belonged to his mother. I tried to look for him there later on but found another family living there instead. The house was apparently rented and he had moved out with his family a few months ago."
When Mr Wu went to the con man's Jurong West flat, he was also told by its current occupants that there was "no such person" there.
Indignant with how his friend got conned by Ah Fu, Mr Wu decided to take responsibility to ferret out the con man.
He and his friends will be putting up more posters at places like markets and petrol stations in the next few days.
"The con man drives so he should frequent petrol stations. I hope members of the public can help me find him!"

Study: Spewing vulgarities can relieve pain

Researchers in the UK have found that cursing and swearing may help people to relieve pain or tolerate pain better.
This phenomenon is however, not experienced by those who curse and swear too frequently.
Researchers recruited 71 undergrads and had them put their hands into cold water with a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.
One group of people cursed and spewed vulgarities at the discomfort while another group was not allowed to do so.
Researchers then recorded and analysed the levels of pain and change in heart rates experienced by the subjects.
They also took into account whether the subjects swore frequently in their daily lives.
Findings show that those who swore when they experienced discomfort had a higher threshold for pain, but this applies only to those who do not swear frequently.
A local psychiatrist, Dr Chen, agreed with the findings and added his take on it.
"People who are tense would have a lower threshold for pain. By relieving their tension through swearing or shouting, the threshold increases."
"This is especially apparent during injections and before giving birth, where many people would scream and shout, or even curse and swear to relieve tension and help them tolerate more pain."
However, Dr Chen emphasises that the swearing described here is not intended for scolding others.

Singaporeans fake car theft to claim insurance

An assemblyman has called for an investigation into Singaporeans who "dump" their vehicles in Johor to claim insurance when they return to the island republic.
Datuk Tee Siew Kiong (BNPulai Sebatang) said such incidents were rampant and they gave a false impression that many vehicles were being stolen here.
"A few Singaporean friends have admitted that Singaporeans who own luxury cars but could no longer afford it, prefer to dispose of them here and make a police report claiming it was stolen," he said.

He cited the case of a Singaporean who reported the loss of his car but refused to claim it when it was found by Malaysian police.
Tee said these Singaporeans could also sell their vehicle ownership passes worth hundreds of (Singapore) dollars.
"Our police should work with their Singapore counterparts and the Interpol to clamp down on such activities," he said.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Tee also lambasted Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for making derogatory statements pertaining to crime in the state and said statistics showed that the crime rate in Penang was much higher than Johor.
"For each 100,000 residents here 639 crime cases are recorded whereas for Penang, about 800 cases are recorded for every 100,000 residents," he said, adding that this clearly proved that Johor was safer.
His statement was immediately interrupted by Dr Boo Cheng Hou (DAPSkudai) and Gwee Tiong Hiang (DAPBentayan) who said that Lim had already apologised and it was unnecessary to bring up the matter.
Tee said the apology was insincere and was only done via the media.
"He only knows how to blame others and he should get his facts right," he said.
