Huang Guang Tian, 33, is a high flyer who moves in the circles of the upper-level society. He became the director of four companies and the shareholder of a fifth company at the young age of 23.
However, all that changed when Huang was nabbed for drug abuse and drug possession six years ago. Together with more than twenty of his peers, he was sentenced to 27 months in jail.
Not long after his release from prison, Huang is in trouble with the law again.
Since 1 April this year, he has been charged in court multiple times for drug abuse, drug possession, and ten counts of theft.
According to the charges, Huang had stolen more than $20,000 worth of items between 3 January and 29 July this year at a number of locations including the Singapore Institute of Management and another school located at Dover Road.
The stolen items include nine laptop computers, a mobile phone, a camera, a passport and cash.
During Huang's conviction six years ago, he claimed to suffer from depression and schizophrenia. According to his lawyer, Huang was diagnosed with the mental illnesses when he was 18 years old.
His lawyer added that as Huang is from a privileged background, his brushes with the law has given him more pressures and made his illnesses worse.

Commenting on the odd phenomenon, property agents say that they are seeing couples that despite having split up, are still shopping for flats together.
According to the senior vice president of the Propnex Group, Lin Yong Fu, such a phenomenon surfaced more than ten years ago. After meeting some divorced couples still shopping for flats, he came to realise that such divorces are a sham.
Lin found that after these couples divorce, one of them will retain ownership of their marital flat while the other one buys another flat. The couple will then each own a flat. They will rent out one flat to earn rent while staying together in the other flat.
This is possible because singles above the age of 35 are eligible to purchase a HDB resale flat.
Lin commented, "Such cases where the husband and wife each own a flat, are very difficult to discern as the couples will make their own secret agreements."
