Use the kerb markings to see. you can see the point where driver hits the brakes, the kerbs slow down �+ the car dives downwards just a few milliseconds before hitting the reckless boy, but enough to prevent a full speed impact.�

i totally agree and i do not dispute but sometimes when i see mroe and more of such incidents, i feel more sorry for the driver rather than the pedestrian.

Yalor, this type of road I usually drive at 95km/h, so far so good only 2 cases.

In this case, the actions of the car were fairly easy to anticipate.
Also, ESP shouldn't be kicking in on a dry road. Maybe it's time for a tyre check. But anyway, if you plan a little ahead, emergency manoeuvres may be avoided, and ESP, ABS etc. won't be activated.
Just some pointers, not meaning to criticise. Anyway, good that there was no accident, and since the guy apologised, let it go. I would.

Stream overreacted slightly by swerving out so much but mostly is the car that is coming out exceeded the white line. People like these cause accidents.�

Easy for me to say in hindsight, but in a situation like that, I often move one lane over in preparation of just such instances (yeah, Monday morning quarterbacking quite bad...which is easy on the video)�

IMO, the car didn't just exceed the white line. Seems like he didn't even stop at the white line. From the rear camera, can see that the car exiting was taking up the whole left lane already.

If the boy is my Son, sure I give the driver Teruk Teruk! Be a responsible driver not hurting the minor on the road. Drove on road for more than 25 years, always look out for pedestrians regardless they are on the zebra crossing or not. Hitting someone on the road should be guilty and not try to find fault on the poor kid.

Nowadays very desolated. Minimum caretaking. Alot of mosquitoes. Even if you bring your kids, it will just be an empty riding park with simulated roads and structures.
But the main idea about Road Safety Park is to have the "drivers", "riders", "pedestrians", NPCC cadets pretending to be TP to expose the chewren to simulated road conditions and to teach and show them the rules and safety tips in practise.
My son been there as a TP during one NPCC outing. A few primary skool kids called him uncle! LOL!

After watching the video, yes I think it is hard to react in time to avoid hitting the boy, but what happens after the boy is hit? I read that the boy got up and went away before the ambulance came. Did he suffer any major injuries, did the driver alight and offer help, did he report the case to the police, did he take the the contact of the boy, or did he just drove off?

Yes, I agree is a matter of wrong time wrong place for the driver, bad bad luck is all I can offer him/her as consolation. However, from the footage of the video, and what I have read, it seems like the driver did not offer help to the boy after the accident. Is this correct?

I think the law state that even if we hit an animal, we are to alight and offer help, otherwise it would be a case of hit and run ( I hope I am correct, please correct me if I am wrong), and it is a human being we are talking about here, and a young helpless one. Never mind the fact that the boy was the cause of the whole incident, the driver did hit him and he flew away.

I think in this case, the speed at which the car is traveling is only factor for how badly the kid will be injured.�

At a reasonable speed of 40km/hr to 60km/hr, I believe no driver would be able to stop in time. Even if it is a manual cyclist encountering such situation, I doubt they can avoid running down this kid.�

Lastly, I don't think the car was speeding even the video makes it look like it was. The car was probably in the midst of accelerating. The kid appeared in front of the bus at the 0:02 mark, impact was at 0:03.
It would be reasonable to assume that the driver only noticed the kid half a second later and applied brakes immediately. That's just half a second of reaction time for the driver. Unless the driver is expecting something to appear out of nowhere from the bus, then I certainly, think the driver reacted reasonably well under the circumstances. The powerful braking also probably save the kid's life.

Let's be reasonable and say that pedestrian has to do their part. The kid is as good as crossing the road blind-folded and leave the consequences to God to decide. And he was lucky. No amount of care by drivers is going to help to avoid such accidents. All road users must do their own part. Don't leave your part to others to take care.�

I know it's fallacious to attribute the lack of enforcement of some important things to the enforcement of other things, but it does seem like they're "squeezing the balloon" of limited resources, or maybe even going for the low-hanging fruit. Revenue-generation, example-making, and all that.

Street racing should remain illegal. But catch the really egregious garang ones like those guys at Orchard Gudang mixing it up with "innocent traffic". No sound in the VCR, but my guess is the taxi must have horn at the VW when the VW filtered out into the main road. The road ahead of the VW �(lane 3) was cleared, why did he jammed his brake twice? I suppose he bay song tio horn, so did it on purpose. Anyway, the taxi waited for the VW to clear so far ahead before moving off, I think that was good enough, he didn't gave chase. But as he filtered right and most likely wanting to turn right into toh guan east road, see what the VW did, he purposely cut ahead dangerously to block the Taxi.

For this type of accident, the insurance company for the cab will contest in court for a lower liability. Both lawyers will fight it out. I suspect the liability will be 50/50, reason being the VW has stopped repeatedly in a rash manner with the intention to cause accident. I won't be surprised if VW driver suffers higher liability to be honest if the judge reviews the whole recording.

With regard to racetracks, why do we still not have a single one, not even a dragstrip, but we have too damn many golf courses? I know the old fogeys in white love to waste their lives away on the green, but some of us prefer to waste our lives on the Green Hell. Or at least a local equivalent, watered down as it may be. I think there's definitely demand. As I said, once it's built, there will br absolutely no more excuse for any sort of public street racing or speed trials. There is room, by the way. CEC is frequently used for car events, they can just make it a dedicated setup. And there are even better options in the really ulu places.
(Don't talk about Malaysia, that's another country, we need one *here*).

In that split second, he had to decide to move left or right. I guess he was hoping that the taxi driver stopped his car then the civic will zoomed past on the left.

Actually, if the civic just keep to his lane instead of swerving left, he would have made it even at that high speed also. I guess he panicked and didn't know what to do. Swerve left already then realise cannot make it so jam brake but the wheels locked up and couldn't swerve back to the right lane.

Then the Estima was cruising at 55km/h also on the right lane which made the Civic filtered from the right to left. The Civic wanted to move back to the right lane but the Taxi came out. So at that point, he decided to move back to the left hoping that the Taxi would stopped. Guess that was why the Civic didnt brake until it was too late.�

As for the taxi, based on assumption again, he didnt really see the Civic because it could have been blocked by the Estima and until it was too late. Based on the two car cam video, it sure looked like a gloomy day. So gloomy day, f&f black colored car, the taxi turning busy looking out for the car turning in front of him and wanting to rush across.... accident

Another thing I noticed was the second cam car. It was moving off from the bus bay and made the Civic moved to the right lane to avoid it just in case it came out the bay without checking.

With hindsight I should have stick to lane 2 since I was trying to be very caution during rush hour on this stretch of road. That is also the reason I shared this video hoping to create some awareness on the road condition in this area -especially this is not the first time i encountered such situation on this road except that this was the closest to being an accident.

I still think taxi can push around 70% blame to the civic la. Their lawyer very good one. Seen taxi get out of getting 100% blame from rear end accident before also. If only got the first video from the car in the bus bay, hard for taxi driver to argue. Nowadays they don't teach drivers where to swerve if really got to avoid an accident? My driving instructor did tell me that if really going to t-bone someone, best it to aim for the rear of their car at the boot area cuz that part won't be as hard as the middle or the front.�

I just remembered another case... the Si Gi Nah without license drove car, made a similar turn and whack into a motorcycle and subsequently a taxi that was going straight. The pillion, single mother of 2 died on the spot.

Transcab also hire those rejected by comfort. I went to their office at defu before and they allow the drivers to pay rental by cash daily. Thats another good reason for old drivers to join them as most probably dont have a bank account and/or short on cash.�

Also agree on better to go A-WS. On this, let me share for awareness. ... the workshop touts arrived swiftly to accident scene and make me very pissed off. Have to spend half my energy to ask them to **** off, while handling the situation (raining, 4 cars owners to exchange details, huge traffic jam). They are VERY persistant. I can understand, because I heard that they will receive 3k commission immediately by bringing victims to their friend's workshop. The touts got about 3 of the victims. If I have followed the tout and not gone to my insurance assigned premium workshop, I may not have gotten the right deals, including a replacement car.

The reasoning behind why the back car always at fault is because the front car could be stopping for any reason but it is the back car's responsibility to keep a safe distance to ensure that there is time to react and stop. The reasoning behind why the back car always at fault is because the front car could be stopping for any reason but it is the back car's responsibility to keep a safe distance to ensure that there is time to react and stop. There is no reason to rear-end someone unless the driver never keep safe distance.

My guess is that the driver was probably not concentrating on the road, probably distracted by handphone or something, from the car plate number, the car should have another 3 years to go, it makes no sense to try to claim insurance... Anyway, hope that both parties are all ok.

Overall I find the officer was quite nice n patient.
The driver made known he didnt exceed speed limit and asked if it was a routine random road check when pulled over. The officer acknowledged the first point n said he will let him know soon.
Officer then clearly explained reason of pulling him over simply bcos he traveled in the wrong lane with inappropriate speed causing a long tail of vehicles behind. Officer stressed that he had been observing driver for a while then decided to pull him over inconsideration of safety.
Officer educated that the extreme left lane should be used only for overtaking purpose n speed in this lane normally hovers between 100 to 110 km/h, but officer said he had already gave chance to driver by lowering to 90km/h.
Officer went on to explain that he had to pull driver over as a last straw when driver further tapped his brake upon seeing officer bringing the speed even lower in the leftmost lane to 88km/h as that is far too slow.
What happened later in the video was the driver trying to justify that it was purely logically human nature to brake whenever they see an officer so he should not be booked just bcos of that n went on (gentlemanly, actually hypocritically) to stress that should not be a way to treat law abiding citizen. Driver stressed to officer that 2km/h slower should not get him a ticket. Officer said its not 2km/h but 12km/h dropping fr 100km/h. 90km/h was the speed that officer lowered n wanted to give some chance.
Driver explained he has no opportunity of moving bk to inner lane as it was occupied with cars exceeding speed limit (if I m not wrong), officer said the vehicles had to exceed speed limit to overtake him on wrong lane bcos he is far too slow by taking up that overtaking lane. In addition to that braking was a potential accident hazard to others.
Driver then requested for a warning but officer said (this is the best part) if no amount of education can cultivate, then a summon had to be in place. Officer stressed that he had to do his job as a road enforcer.
Driver insisted he had been wronged n stated he will not sign. Officer said driver has all the right not to sign as driver can decide to appeal or not.
Driver later post this video up on web to air his fustration.
Hope my summary is clear as it could for non-chinese or non-mandarin speaker.

Anyway my guess is (still) the driver was totally stunned... you look at the end of the video, car was going straight at a slow speed on the left most lane and it had traveled for some distance before the brake was depressed.

So? It still doesn't mean that a person who keeps a safe distance is a hogger. A hogger is just someone who doesn't want to give way to cars behind. Most hoggers know that there are cars behind. They just don't want to give way cuz they think they are travelling at the speed limit already.

During my NS time we were told not to ride or drive to camp becoz they were instances where NSF lost their life due to fatigue. Driver could have doze off while the rest of the NS boys are already fast asleep. No one to keep the driver awake.

I do not support the "haunted" theory coz we know there are a lot of logistics and contruction vehicles using that stretch of road. Why the accidents are always passenger cars? Why not tipper trucks, lorries, vans or pickups? Why are they immune to the "haunted" stretch of road?

For the Changi Coast Road accident I think the NS boy and friends had finish an excercise and were on their way home. During my NS time we were told not to ride or drive to camp becoz they were instances where NSF lost their life due to fatigue. Driver could have doze off while the rest of the NS boys are already fast asleep. No one to keep the driver awake.

I do not support the "haunted" theory coz we know there are a lot of logistics and contruction vehicles using that stretch of road. Why the accidents are always passenger cars? Why not tipper trucks, lorries, vans or pickups? Why are they immune to the "haunted" stretch of road?

Not just driving to camp, I ever had 2 instances as a vehicle commander where my drivers almost fall asleep while driving. One was driving a 3 tonner and I had to shake his shoulder to keep him awake. The other time was in despatch car where I had to hold on to the steering when last minute I noticed the driver falling asleep and the vehicle was not keeping in lane. This one more dangerous coz we were on expressway.�

My personal experience, attached hospital invoice to show but was rejected by TP with a standard reply. MP just one letter, next my traffic light offence put on record, 12 demerit points waived, fine also waived. Very Heng!! Really depends who signed off the letter.

When one is driving at lane 1, one must close the gap. I think he is doing that, not because he sense he is in a wrong and want to get away from your car.
You did the right thing. But even if your family is not inside, you can also let it go. Coz it is really nothing.
Frankly speaking 2 car space can also cut in. But must be good at it in terms of safety and timing so that it minimize the interruption to the flow of traffic. When I am in a rush I do a lot of overtaking and cornering so I don't see why the civic can't do that.
But what I want to know is, did the civic signal when going from 3rd to 1st

Regardless of the car I drive, I make it a point to be faster than a car on my right if I am changing into their lane. So if there is a gap and I am slightly in front or alongside but the car is not speeding up, I do the speeding up.

I close THAT gap between this car and the other car in front, to me that's driving to traffic conditions. If my back is close to your front, I am cutting you. If my front is close to the back of the car in front, I am giving you time to react so you don't bloody rear end me.

If you really need to go middle lane, just let VW filter in front of you and you filter to middle lane behind him at the same time. �Leverage on each other's manoeuvre, both achieve objective and win-win situation. �

This manoeuvre is very effective when there are two cars needing to filter into each other's lane at the same time. �Once both parties see each other's signal, experience will determine who takes the front or back and just switch lanes like a dance. �I'm sure many experienced drivers do this on a daily basis with no fuss.

IMO, the white car was behaving normally till the cam car decided to block him off. There was more than enough space for the white car to filter in without slowing down the cam car but cam car decided to speed up so that there will be less than 1/2 car gap. White car also got angry when cam car block him so start to play also...

I'm in this situation many times. I went into other's lane and move on. Drive like normal but the driver behind both hands gesturing "simi lan bird", trying to zip around heavy traffic to catch up to my side. Finally, he did. I'm happy for him cause he finally caught up. When I saw him, I shake my head and accelerate and off I go. he is way behind and still cursing and swearing.

I also had related experience but i was the driver in NS instead.
Normally i was vehicle commander in our M113. In the middle of one exercise in Wallaby, for some reason my driver was not feeling well, and so only me and my sec 2i/c had to decide betw us who to drive (as the rest of the section troopers don't have license).
And cos he wasn't so confident, asked me to drive.

(btw, i should mention that the we the NCOs had driving license, but it was for training purpose only, which is unlike the vocational drivers whose license was a full license and could also drive during convoy on main roads, etc.)

Anyway, since we didn't wanna get stuck in the wilderness and didn't want to wait for replacement driver, i took over. And it was after some mission (when i led the section went flanking), so it was damned tiring. And unlike SGP where m113 moved 5 min in Area D will reach destination, Wallaby travelling time is easily 5-10 times longer as area much bigger.

So at one point, with all the dust flying at my face after driving for a long distance, it was so tiring that i almost fell asleep. My 2 i/c had to shout loudly through the intercom to 'wake' me up to avoid having to do overturn drill !!!

Normally i was vehicle commander in our M113. In the middle of one exercise in Wallaby, for some reason my driver was not feeling well, and so only me and my sec 2i/c had to decide betw us who to drive (as the rest of the section troopers don't have license).
And cos he wasn't so confident, asked me to drive.
(btw, i should mention that the we the NCOs had driving license, but it was for training purpose only, which is unlike the vocational drivers whose license was a full license and could also drive during convoy on main roads, etc.)
Anyway, since we didn't wanna get stuck in the wilderness and didn't want to wait for replacement driver, i took over. And it was after some mission (when i led the section went flanking), so it was damned tiring. And unlike SGP where m113 moved 5 min in Area D will reach destination, Wallaby travelling time is easily 5-10 times longer as area much bigger.
So at one point, with all the dust flying at my face after driving for a long distance, it was so tiring that i almost fell asleep. My 2 i/c had to shout loudly through the intercom to 'wake' me up to avoid having to do overturn drill !!!
Almost 2 decades on and still feel fortunate that nothing disastrous happened....

yah lah. in Area D, you all (drivers) always got to coma after driving 5 min, as reached destination and the troops had to go flanking for 2 hr...

Ownself cam also hard to proof innocence with bikes. Lucky got 3rd party evidence in this case.
Obviously not the Mercedes fault in braking to avoid colliding van at the front, it's the motorcyclist slip into unbalanced and fall all by his own after passing the Mercedes.
Opens Mercedes driver door to blame the driver for braking that caused his fall and sat down again to show he's hurt is about compensation motive.
The Mercedes driver move his vehicle is a grave mistake in Traffic accident with someone suffered injury.

My MP was LTY and he'd seen me thrice to cancel one TP summon of "Fail to Signal Turning" into TPY Lor 6.
LTY: Mr.F..., you had committed a traffic offence ! You know ?
Me: Mr.LTY, my signal lighting system was broken down and on the same day of the offence, I did repaired in AD WS.
LTY: Okay. I am writing to TP for appeal on your behalf, you await for their reply.
NEXT MPS IN ONE WEEK LATER.
LTY: They had replied but not in your favour, can you prove your car signal lights system was faulty on the day of traffic offence ?
Me: Yes Sir, my AD WS invoice shown the repaired items clearly with date and time.
LTY: That's helpful ! Let me have it duplicate and attach to them for "re-appealing" again, you don't pay the fine first and await for their reply.
NEXT MPS IN THE SECOND WEEK MPS.
LTY: Mr.F..., congratulation ! You've been pardon and excused this time with final warning, no more similar type of traffic offence again ! okay ?
Me: Thank you, sir. I will be warning my AD WS as what you had told me "Final Warning with no similar fault"

There should be some similarity in above and below car crashes with silly mistakes by not holding the steering wheel firmly tight in high speeds.
Road debris, pot hole and winds impacts would cause the steering tie rod to sway the car out of straight line that lead to drifting and spinning out of control.

Alot of the taxi lau their night vision is terok one...add on night time headlamp/streetlight glare, the singular motorcycle headlight might have blended in with the car that was further behind him.
