Singapore Reckless Drivers Videos part II part 8

Tipper trucks......i dont expect anything else from them. They drive as if they own the road expecting everyone else to give way. No signal, sudden change and speeding faster than a normal car....thats why they are called tipper truck.....the odds are heavily tipped in their favour in an accident! Others will surely get crushed and trampled!

Yes bro, i agree with u.. many of them in the West speed and cut each other like sports cars, with loads on their backs.. no wonder some end up in drains..

The law must be harsher on those with greater impact on other road users, and these trucks would be the first choice.. penalties meted out for errant truck drivers must be harsh enough to discourage them from being reckless like now.. jail and revoke of driving licence would be best,,

exactly. These few days have straddlers and when i drive past them they shake head...what gives?? wtf...

The problem with some bikers are they always feel it is their right to lane split and give all sorts of justifications to do that. My take as a rider, wanna lane split no need to give any reason, do it at your own risk assessment. I personally dun like to lane split a long stream of vehicles as it leaves me no escape route at all plus I get unnecessary pressure from fellow bikers below. Msians bikers love that however n I m puzzled with their mindset til this day

But when I travel in the centre of the lane gg with traffic flow, I do get a tailgaters in whatever lanes I m in. To counter that defensively, from 2 secs rule, I create 4 secs rule to make up that 2 secs rule that silly tailgater who did not give me. Well I do admit some will call me a b**tard here creating a far larger distance with the vehicle in front of me, I am creating a safer distance so that I can do a quick acceleration to a safer adjacent lane to get away & probably piss that silly tailgater off. Some tailgaters are plain habitual anyway.

mother got 3 merc, 4 bmw, 1 jaguar to her name....

Question should be why will an auntie drive a Godzilla?

Just ask the insurance to ask the auntie to demo driving the car one round the carpark herself to prove that she is the real owner can already....

Don't anyhow say... their senior counsel will say that they are just testing the handling of the cars and they just happened to be testing both on the same route and the same time.

What is more likely - aunt lend young man a high performance car or aunt front the insurance on a bouncy jouncy uncomfortable sports car?

there's no proof of fronting - but I guess that's what an investigation would be for right?

if the insurance company investigates I would applaud them -

[thumbsup] Bloody strawberry generation. Do something useful with your life la.

SINGAPORE - Two friends who raced with each other along a stretch of road in Seletar in the early hours of New Year's Day last year (2015) were jailed, fined and banned from driving for taking part in a competition without a permit and for dangerous driving.
Ryujin Tan, 26, and Gordon Tan Zhi Liang, 27, had each admitted to two charges each of racing and dangerous driving along Seletar Link towards Punggol Way. Two other charges were considered during sentencing.
They were jailed for three weeks, fined $6,600 and banned from driving for 18 months on Friday (July 8).

Deputy Public Prosecutor Selene Yap said that Ryujin, who was driving his aunt's blue Nissan GTR, and Gordon, who was behind the wheel of his mother's red BMW, were in Yishun Dam on New Year's Day last year when they decided to race.
They were flagged off by one of Gordon's friends and switched lanes and made an illegal U-turn in the course of the competition.

After the first race, Ryujin told Gordon that he did not accelerate fully and requested another race, saying he would accelerate fully this time.
Ryujin then drove at a high speed along the extreme right lane of Seletar Link towards Tampines Expressway back to the start point. Both drivers made unauthorised U-turns and repositioned their cars at the start point.
The second race started at 2.12am. After about 800m, both cars made unauthorised U-turns at a gap and continued to race back to the start point.
A traffic police staff sergeant, who was part of a team conducting anti-illegal racing activities, captured Ryujin's car speed on the laser gun over a distance of 191.5m to be going at 146kmh.
The video of the races was played in court on Thursday when the duo pleaded guilty.
Ryujin's lawyer Desmond Tan said in mitigation that no real hazard was caused to anyone that morning, and that the only "spectators'' present then were his client's wife and the friends with whom he was hanging out before the race.
He said his client acknowledges that he had made an error in judgment by deciding to compete with the co-accused in a bid to determine who has the faster car.
Gordon's lawyer Mohan Das Naidu said his client was remorseful. Both men wanted to have some fun with their cars and hence decided to compete with each other.
The maximum penalty for taking part in a competition without a permit is six months' jail, a $2,000 fine and a driving ban of at least 12 months.
For dangerous driving, the maximum penalty is a $3,000 fine and 12 months' jail.

146kmh also call racing? these 2 clowns jin xia suey..

Is it my eyes or the pedestrian signal portion is red at the point of crossing?

Don't get me wrong, the bus should have stopped if the light was red whether there was anyone crossing or not.

For the man on the motorised kick-scooter, if he wanted to enjoy the privilege of using the pedestrian crossing, at the least press the button for crossing. Whether he should have dismount or not is up for debate.

Unlikely to have no injuries although he can stand up and walk. I hope they called the ambulance to send the boy for checkup. Internal injuries no joke. Best outcome is the poor boy recovers fully and will remember this experience for the rest of his life.

Parents just have to keep nagging at their kids about road safety lah no choice. I sound like a broken record every single day.

WTF was the driver doing after the accident? Fainted?

P/s: I will show this video to my boy to reinforce the importance of road safety. Not the gory type so suitable for kids education. One video beats my one-year worth of nagging.

Jialat. The driver should have slowed down when approaching stationary bus.

I've seen many cases where people just dash across the road after alighting from the bus. And they usually do it in front of the bus. I don't know why they do it but they must have felt invincible that the bus could protect them from other vehicle.

Anyway, pity the driver. Most likely he will get fine from TP.

Well, hindsight is always 20/20 right? While we should slow down, most of the time we don't not bec of recklessness but bec we dont expect it..

It's an accident, caused by the boy running across the road suddenly.. the driver did nothing to exacerbate this accident and wasn't speeding..should not be faulted .. hope the boy is ok now..

Even though car driver wasnt at fault because the kid just dash out like that, the only mistake the car driver did was not leaving his car asap n check the boy n tell him to stay there because standing n moving around after that impact may have injuries thats fatal and then call the ambulance immediately

These type of drivers need to be taken off the road. What did cam car do to deserve that? Noob or not does not really matter. TP need take a serious view of these type of road bullies and hit them hard as a deterrent that such a behaviour is not tolerated.

That aside, with a cam, I would let him hit and then report TP and claim that bugger gao gao. [:|]

Full speed impact. The cam car did not brake until impact.......

When driving pass an obstacles like a stopped van or bus, I make it a point to look at the hidden spots where a person can dash out.

My right foot will be off the accelerator and positioned just touching the brake pedal. It might not prevent an accident but it will shave milliseconds off the reaction time in such classic case......

Please remember to drive defensively for sake of yourself, your loved ones at home and everyone else...

agree for your 'high class toyota' , that you have to be more careful as knock and run over ppl, wun feel one....scary :a-confused:

agree with keeping situational alertness on high when seeing such areas like buses, etc when anything can happen. Expect the unexpected

I had a similar brush in the evening near my home while picking up my wife from the bus-stop.

Was turning right at junction when it was green in my favour and the pedestrian light was already red.

I crossed the junction carefully and while approaching the already red pedestrian crossing, a boy on a bicycle dashed down the slope and crossed the junction while I was a picking up speed to cross.

The boy and bike brushed the rear left fender. I quickly stoppedat the side of the road and ran to see the boy whom had taken off.

Luckily, 2 pedestrians caught up with him before he could get away and they told him off in my presence that the light was not in his favour and he should have stopped and waited and push the bike across instead of riding across.

I heaved a sigh of relieve and thanked them and left with a scratch on my car.

I think sch principals should show this video during assembly (still got such thing?) to reinforce road safety.

But hor knowing softie parents these days, sure will complain about the content traumatizing their fragile snowflakes kind of nonsense.

My heart skips when I see the video.

For those who bash the driver, I think its really not right (Just my own view).

My reason are as below :

    1. the driver was not speeding

    2. No matter who is it, the reaction time is really too short and can see the driver did try to brake ASAP thus the lesser impact

    3. The driver did get out of the car, from the auntie who have eye lvl contact and the direction she facing when talking show the driver should be somewhere outside beside his door.

We are not sure if he was calling the ambulance or what thus we should not just jump to conclusion and said its his mistake.

    4. Some ppl may due to shocked react a little slower after the incident

Hope the boy did not have major injuries and learnt his lesson of not dashing across the road in future

Anyway everyone have their views and just my 2 cents worth

I empathise with the driver too. Why? Because 10 years ago i had analmost exactaccident like this. That timehad 2 ladies waiting to cross a traffic light which was in my favour (not theirs). Then suddenlyone saw the opposite oncoming bus and decided to dash in front of the bus to intercept it, most likely that was her intended bus. The time she decided to dash across was so sudden, I wasn't able to brake in time to avoid. But luckily my ebrake was so effective I merely "tripped" her onto my bonnet. So the impact was only her face when she fell face first on my bonnet, she did not fly like the boy.

So then came the interesting part. Every passerbysthen came to me and started scolding me for reckless driving, some even accused me of beating red light. I had no time for them as I wasbusy checking on her and also calling ambulance for her and callingpolice. As you can see in the video, this boy most likely saw his bus coming and trying to dash across in front of it. Yes its unfortunate and hopefully nothing serious happen to the boy. But clearly you see the boy was at fault and he learnt a painful lesson. Say now its not a car but a motorcycle and the motorcyclist flip andhe get a even serious injury, will the same driver bashers still side with the boy?

Its human nature to defend someone suffering but to start bashing the driver for unsafe driving I think we have to put ourselves in his/her shoe first.

For my case, I calmly told the TP what happened and said light was in my favour and asked him to ask the friend of the lady. Because she was waiting to cross while her friend decided to dash, so if she was truthful enough she would agree I was not lying. The TP asked if I knew other witnesses, I told him to ask the bus driver. The bus driver mostly like saw what happened especially when a woman on the opposite side trying to dash across to board his bus. Furthermore, she would not need to dash across if the light was in her favour because the bus would have to stop anyway.

In the end, I was free of any charges and the lady got a letter of warning for indiscriminate crossing. This was at the time where there was no in car video to prove my innocence. I am glad this driver has one.

    Gone are the hey days....

Nowadays very desolated. Minimum caretaking. Alot of mosquitoes. Even if you bring your kids, it will just be an empty riding park with simulated roads and structures.

But the main idea about Road Safety Park is to have the "drivers", "riders", "pedestrians", NPCC cadets pretending to be TP to expose the chewren to simulated road conditions and to teach and show them the rules and safety tips in practise.

sigh, you are one of those rare parents who educate your kids to be responsible for their own actions. [thumbsup]

Nowadays, I observe that more and more parents are blaming everything else that happens to their kids. They are just not willing to take the responsibility that it is their own failed upbringing of their kids, by either setting bad example or simply bochap, that resulted in certain behaviour in their kids.

I had a teacher who shared with me that a school boy in sec 2 broke his fingers when clowning on the chin up bar during recess, and the parents blame the school for his injuries. The thing is that the form teacher has called and informed the mom many times that the boy is behaving in such a way that will endanger his friends and himself by clowning around in class and PE lesson. The mom response was epic.... My son is expressing himself and making his class relax by clowning around, what is wrong with that? the school shld understand his kind intention..... [bigcry][bigcry][bigcry]

and yet when shit happens, she goes arnd blaming the school. The dad even better, simple asked, what can I do? you school shld do something abt it....

Such parents shouldn't have kids at all imho.

No offence, but if driving defensively that shouldn't have happened. Always expect other road users to be complete idiots, and you'll rarely be disappointed.

In this case, the actions of the car were fairly easy to anticipate.

Also, ESP shouldn't be kicking in on a dry road. Maybe it's time for a tyre check. But anyway, if you plan a little ahead, emergency manoeuvres may be avoided, and ESP, ABS etc. won't be activated.

Just some pointers, not meaning to criticise. Anyway, good that there was no accident, and since the guy apologised, let it go. I would.

    Just out of curiosity ---

I notice you were travelling at 70 km/h - what is the speed limit on that section of road?

Also - the video angle might be misleading, but can see the stream moving braking and moving out and the car coming out from the carpark quite early.

Easy for me to say in hindsight, but in a situation like that, I often move one lane over in preparation of just such instances (yeah, Monday morning quarterbacking quite bad...which is easy on the video)

In short - watching the video, there is a lot of predictability - may not have been like that in real life, but there may be lessons to learn from the video none the less and self examination / reflectionmight be worthwhile.

I think arm chair quarterbacks should direct their efforts at playing Madden. [laugh]Seriously lah, give the fella a break. We all make some minor mistakes when driving everyday, itsa question of whether itbecomes an issue.

IMO, the car didn't just exceed the white line. Seems like he didn't even stop at the white line. From the rear camera, can see that the car exiting was taking up the whole left lane already.

The driver is very careless and only care to reach his destination. Driving in hdb area should be under 50km/h. Obviously he is speeding and distracted. If the boy is my Son, sure I give the driver Teruk Teruk! Be a responsible driver not hurting the minor on the road. Drove on road for more than 25 years, always look out for pedestrians regardless they are on the zebra crossing or not. Hitting someone on the road should be guilty and not try to find fault on the poor kid.:pissed-off: the impact he did is high as the kid might have internal bleeding which might cause him to coma stage on next few days. Just pray he is alright!!! If he dies, driver, all the best to you!!!

seriously? Did you see the video? The kid dashed across from a blind spot! There is no way the driver could have averted the accident. The onus is on the boy not to have crossed the rd in front of a big vehicle and not watching for traffic.

My son been there as a TP during one NPCC outing. A few primary skool kids called him uncle! LOL!

After watching the video, yes I think it is hard to react in time to avoid hitting the boy, but what happens after the boy is hit? I read that the boy got up and went away before the ambulance came. Did he suffer any major injuries, did the driver alight and offer help, did he report the case to the police, did he take the the contact of the boy, or did he just drove off?

Yes, I agree is a matter of wrong time wrong place for the driver, bad bad luck is all I can offer him/her as consolation. However, from the footage of the video, and what I have read, it seems like the driver did not offer help to the boy after the accident. Is this correct?

I think the law state that even if we hit an animal, we are to alight and offer help, otherwise it would be a case of hit and run ( I hope I am correct, please correct me if I am wrong), and it is a human being we are talking about here, and a young helpless one. Never mind the fact that the boy was the cause of the whole incident, the driver did hit him and he flew away.

If this case was not reported, and now that it has gone public, would the police classified this as a "hit and run" case?

I hope the boy learn his lesson, and help to spread the message to his friends and mates on road safety. This also remind us all drivers again, please alight and offer assistance if we ever hit someone, human or animals alike. Never mind who is the cause, we need to make sure that life is not endanger before anything else, less we get sleepless nights and nightmares for the rest of our life...

I wonder what you will say if you are the unlucky driver to encounter a jayRUNNER dashing into the path of your car and you knock him/her down being unable to avoid the collision.

From the video you can conclude the driver was speeding. Fantastic CSI skill. Please go sign up to join Traffic Police.

Lastly, kindly stop your senseless preaching, which is totally irrelevant to the case in point.

Looks like there are many angry drivers on the road. I believe we have forgotten the basic traffic rules on the road. Though been driving daily on the road. Courtesy and good road sense are still the main core to get home safely to my family. Without harming others, I can sleep better every night and see my kids at home. not difficult cos it was a small boy that you hit, first reaction is quickly step out to see if he was ok. no need to be on hindsight.

I mentioned before a bike knock me from the back and he fell, my first reaction was get out to see how bad was he although he keep apologising. I didn't even bother with the damage on my car and check his bike as ok and if he need to go hospital.

I think in this case, the speed at which the car is traveling is only factor for how badly the kid will be injured.

At a reasonable speed of 40km/hr to 60km/hr, I believe no driver would be able to stop in time. Even if it is a manual cyclist encountering such situation, I doubt they can avoid running down this kid.

Lastly, I don't think the car was speeding even the video makes it look like it was. The car was probably in the midst of accelerating. The kid appeared in front of the bus at the 0:02 mark, impact was at 0:03.

It would be reasonable to assume that the driver only noticed the kid half a second later and applied brakes immediately. That's just half a second of reaction time for the driver. Unless the driver is expecting something to appear out of nowhere from the bus, then I certainly, think the driver reacted reasonably well under the circumstances. The powerful braking also probably save the kid's life.

Let's be reasonable and say that pedestrian has to do their part. The kid is as good as crossing the road blind-folded and leave the consequences to God to decide. And he was lucky. No amount of care by drivers is going to help to avoid such accidents. All road users must do their own part. Don't leave your part to others to take care.

That said, I wonder why the driver didn't go up to check on the kid he just ran down. Too shock?

    easy-target-18178272.jpg

    -999x-999.gif

    :D

I'm likely in the minority on this, and I'm probably gonna get flamed and possibly "disliked" - that's OK - just remember to leave your name and not be an anonymous coward about it, I won't bite back.

But I don't agree with this relentless persecution of street racing. Yes, it's illegal. But if they're doing it away from other earthly traffic at ungodly hours on a deserted road, who, other than themselves (and possibly willing participants/spectators) are they really putting at risk?

The TP are diverting resources to catching people at ungodly hours like these in addition to putting people on bridges (and yes, they do this to catch non-racing speeders on empty roads in the wee hours too). Meanwhile, road hazards during rush hour are allowed to continue - dangerously overloaded trucks, weaving and lane-splitting bikes, irresponsible pedestrians, cyclists and e-cyclists. I know it's fallacious to attribute the lack of enforcement of some important things to the enforcement of other things, but it does seem like they're "squeezing the balloon" of limited resources, or maybe even going for the low-hanging fruit. Revenue-generation, example-making, and all that.

Street racing should remain illegal. But catch the really egregious garang ones like those guys at Orchard Gudang mixing it up with "innocent traffic". Don't gun for these guys who are keeping it to the ulu places late at night and who don't put the innocent at risk. If and when you build a track in Singapore, I'll say you can go all out and catch people, but until then, a little restraint can be shown.

    OK, flame away. :D

I think LTA needs to replace Give Way lines with double humps and Stop Line with 5" high hump.

I also kena near IMM area along Boon Lay Way last week, BMW decided to rush out from filter lane even though I was about 5M away from him, true enough, the BMW scraped into my left rear side. His argument was that I should have stopped my car for him to exit and he didn't see any Give Way line.

dunno to cry or laugh... :TT_TT: :psychotic:

Yeah ... A lot of drivers ignore the Give Way sign ... Including this VW driver.

No sound in the VCR, but my guess is the taxi must have horn at the VW when the VW filtered out into the main road. The road ahead of the VW (lane 3) was cleared, why did he jammed his brake twice? I suppose he bay song tio horn, so did it on purpose. Anyway, the taxi waited for the VW to clear so far ahead before moving off, I think that was good enough, he didn't gave chase. But as he filtered right and most likely wanting to turn right into toh guan east road, see what the VW did, he purposely cut ahead dangerously to block the Taxi.

A case of young, high ego new driver is my thought. And maybe he still has the mind set that you hit my back and I am protected. Interesting to see what is the outcome. I think this "you hit my back and you are wrong" concept has to change...

The taxi never wait lah. Can see that the taxi driver got out from the taxi when the car stopped. Assume to confront the polo but it ran away instead. Noticed the jerk in the recording, its caused by closing of the car door. Those in car cameras using suction cups type of holder will experience such jerking motion more than those that uses double sided tape.

At least the taxi driver never swerve to the other lane like my incident. He braked and stopped in his own lane.

I think you are right on the taxi driver alight part...LOL

But seriously, I am no saint, I think I would have alight also if I were the taxi driver...LOL

My point is, without the recording, taxi confirm is up lorry. Road condition dry, traffic moderate, traffic light red (i think), VW has come to stop already, and taxi bang direct from behind. But case in point is, there was an intention to cause an accident by the VW driver.

i think you call him a jerk is being polite already...

from so far away can see the VW already fully in his lane.. he still go smack the butt..

and still have the god damn cheek to post this video thinking that he can be justified to cause and accident...

VW is a cb kia.. watever reason.. but cab driver is much worse imo

I chose to differ....think the cab is a bad tempered driver(like most of us, maybe not u but me definitely, wifey complained that I become an angry man behind wheels [confused]). He most likely horned to show his 'displeasure' and I think he is driving quite fast as well. But u can c that he waited for a good distance b4 continuing his drive off and he went to the first lane. Meaning he wants to get on with his business and journey. The VW chap jus wanna play punk and cut his lane and jam break. This resulted in the accident. IMO u can horn, u can wind down ur window and scold, whatever but y wanna create accident. Cars in SG beri exp u know...buay xim tia meh? So conclusion the VW the bigger of the 2 jerks!

For this type of accident, the insurance company for the cab will contest in court for a lower liability. Both lawyers will fight it out. I suspect the liability will be 50/50, reason being the VW has stopped repeatedly in a rash manner with the intention to cause accident. I won't be surprised if VW driver suffers higher liability to be honest if the judge reviews the whole recording.

As a very objective third-party who just viewed the recording 5 min ago, I hope the VW gets higher liability.

damn suay bro... but if you were waiting your car should be stationary... did you explicitly indicate that in your accident report?

anyway I've always decided against video cam because most of the videos I've watched are self pawn and I always believe that if one practice defensive driving, 90% of the time you are safe. that day I very defensive liao as I anticipated the BMW would rush out so I just maintain speed and lift my foot off accelerator.

Somehow, I agree with your comments, there are simply too many reckless motorists on the road nowadays and basically, practice defensive driving is the SOP for those sharing the roads with them! You will never know when you will encounter them even you drive safe! -_-

Turboflat4, the problem is allowing such illegal racing at quiet, secluded places have the following issues, real, imagined or waiting to happen or still in movie scripts or in movies :

    1. Parents of such racers will kpkb why never intervene or conduct checks or prevent blah blah blah.....

    2. These racers are likely to bring the fun to the next level... Street racings for more kicks and funner

    3. Introduce more opportunities for gang related activities ie gambling and drinking and fights when poor losers are born. Then more trouble with having to look for killer(s) or missing face or limbs.

    4. Encourage more illegal mods until Transformers also no chance

The kids of today are pretty useless... Because of useless parents of this generation. They leave the upbringing stuff to maids and everything that can go wrong goes wrong, they blame others and then migrate (thank God).

I take a humorous view and will be a flame b4 you... the pressure is mine.

Seriously, it is not something I personally am for. If they have more sense and burning desire to race please go to a safer place like racetracks. At the end of the day, why is a simple and easy way to do so not used?

Thanks for sharing your views. It's always refreshing and usually out of the law... I mean the norm type. You lead a fulfilling life... Kudos to that.

    Safe ride
    Cheers

No worries bro, I welcome dissenting opinions. I don't think the sort caught for street racing to now are the "no good poor loser" sort, do you? More like the pampered by rich relatives sort. I don't think they're likely to turn bad. Ironically, the prison sentence will probably do far more to affect the trajectory of their lives than a little street racing - a prison record can wreck your whole white collar future in this strait laced judgmental place. So the judgment does more harm than good in my opinion.

With regard to racetracks, why do we still not have a single one, not even a dragstrip, but we have too damn many golf courses? I know the old fogeys in white love to waste their lives away on the green, but some of us prefer to waste our lives on the Green Hell. Or at least a local equivalent, watered down as it may be. I think there's definitely demand. As I said, once it's built, there will br absolutely no more excuse for any sort of public street racing or speed trials. There is room, by the way. CEC is frequently used for car events, they can just make it a dedicated setup. And there are even better options in the really ulu places.

(Don't talk about Malaysia, that's another country, we need one *here*).

In that split second, he had to decide to move left or right. I guess he was hoping that the taxi driver stopped his car then the civic will zoomed past on the left.

The taxi should not just chiong out followed the car in front of him. He never checked properly before turning...

Don't think he hogging lah, that stretch is the part where traffic from Telok Blangah Road all try to join the upramp to Keppel Viaduct from the extreme left of the 4 lane section. As the section is relatively short, a lot of them takes on more risky lane filtering manoeuvre in order to make it to the right most lane in time.

From the video all those who seem to be "overtaking" are in fact from the left most lane from Telok Blangah Road

Hahaha...Bro Karlzeiss...what car you driving ? How come every car want to overtake you?

  • 19 July 2016 - 09:50 AM
    Fireball0088

Actually, if the civic just keep to his lane instead of swerving left, he would have made it even at that high speed also. I guess he panicked and didn't know what to do. Swerve left already then realise cannot make it so jam brake but the wheels locked up and couldn't swerve back to the right lane.

My guess (guess only hor) is the Civic was traveling at high speed on the right lane. Then the Estima was cruising at 55km/h also on the right lane which made the Civic filtered from the right to left. The Civic wanted to move back to the right lane but the Taxi came out. So at that point, he decided to move back to the left hoping that the Taxi would stopped. Guess that was why the Civic didnt brake until it was too late.

As for the taxi, based on assumption again, he didnt really see the Civic because it could have been blocked by the Estima and until it was too late. Based on the two car cam video, it sure looked like a gloomy day. So gloomy day, f&f black colored car, the taxi turning busy looking out for the car turning in front of him and wanting to rush across.... accident

Another thing I noticed was the second cam car. It was moving off from the bus bay and made the Civic moved to the right lane to avoid it just in case it came out the bay without checking.

On hindsight, the Civic should have just brake the moment he saw the taxi. He could have stopped in time...

(p.s. There was a mandatory give way to bus exiting from the bay - probably that was also one of the reason he was drifting from left to right)

30%/70%, civic take most of the blame?

Not sure. For me, I will give 50/50 or most blame to the Taxi for failure to look out for cars. But I will fine the Civic jialat jialat for excessive speed...

Nope, Taxi will take majority of the blame. Civic's speed cannot be 100% determined, even with video.

Video does not show any recklessness on Civic's part. No weaving in/out, no dangerous lane cutting, just maybe going quicker than normal. But again, the speed cannot be 100% determined.

Even if the Civic was going fast, the fast driving did NOT cause the accident, it might have contributed as a factor, but the accident was entirely caused by Taxi driver's misjudgement and turning without checking for traffic.

Also, Taxi is turning while Civic going straight, it is also not a traffic junction, onus is on the taxi driver to check clear,Taxi driver will take majority of fault. $10 bet.

$10 bet.

Taxi so suay ah? but based on video, cannot determine that civic is speeding? and on two lane road, that speed can be considered reckless?

Yes civic can be shown as speeding, but actual speed cannot be 100% determined, unless you think mata/insuran going to wanna spend $$$$$$$ csi the video, in most likelihood, they'll just make the taxi driver jiak the liability unless taxi driver got $$$ to fight.

Taxi turning without checking is clear cut in the video, speed of the Civic is not.

I agree with your last statement as I am always guilty of both, thus my own personal interest.

The authorities will judge according to the cause and effect of this case, which the cause is Civic speeding and Taxi turning without due consideration, effect of course is the accident.

So they will look at why the Civic is driving faster than the video speed of 53km/h(+/-), on a 2 lane road, speed limit probably 50-60km/h.

The higher the speed difference, the higher the responsibility of the Civic, that's what I assume.

I do not foresee the taxi taking larger share of the blame, regardless, because no.1 it is obvious Civic is speeding, no.2 Civic changed lane without signalling and no.3 if the authorities decides that if a person was jaywalking instead of a taxi turning, what would have been the consequences? I doubt Civic would be let off easy.

Oh Addendum: the reckless charge could arrive if the authorities questions the Civic decision to drive above speed limit in an area like this, endangering other road users and pedestrians, highly raising chances of accidents.

I still think taxi can push around 70% blame to the civic la. Their lawyer very good one. Seen taxi get out of getting 100% blame from rear end accident before also. If only got the first video from the car in the bus bay, hard for taxi driver to argue. But now with the new video from the car being overtaken by the civic, taxi can argue it was clear and he know can clear cuz civic was going to right lane but how he know the civic decided to change his path and aim for his taxi after he took the turn. The video does show clearly that if the civic did not change lanes so suddenly without signalling, he wouldn't have hit the taxi.

badly damaged meh? looks ok what.

This Taxi the side very hard one leh. My dad ever drove this as a relief and t-boned by a bus that ran red light. Damage also not as bad as this even though the bus never even brake.

Not sure. For me, I will give 50/50 or most blame to the Taxi for failure to look out for cars. But I will fine the Civic jialat jialat for excessive speed...

Nowadays they don't teach drivers where to swerve if really got to avoid an accident? My driving instructor did tell me that if really going to t-bone someone, best it to aim for the rear of their car at the boot area cuz that part won't be as hard as the middle or the front.

    1. Based on the clip, I would say Civic's speed is about 10 to 15 km/h faster than the cam car. So if cam car is driving at 50, then civic maybe around 65.

i'm actually with Mockngbrd on this...

even IF the civic is speeding
even IF the civic is heavily modified
even IF the civic undertake the car cam

the onus is on the taxi driver to be ALERT, drive defensively. if you see a speeding car, or you know your lau pok chia cannot make it, why you still wanna attempt? the taxi driver failed to practise defensive driving ... when in doubt, DONT MOVE. wait for traffic to be clear if no confidence. he is turning from a minor to major, he has to give way regardless ... even driving instruction will say, "turn when it is SAFE to do so"... when you see a "speeding" car ... why risk it to save a few seconds.

I am with Mockngbrd Spawn and Fireball0088 on this. The primary cause of the accident was the taxi crossing the path of the Civic. The taxi should have yielded. We learn when turning right across traffic, give way to on coming vehicles. It does not have any other clauses such as unless it is speeding, or a modded civic or driven by an a**hole. You just give way.

The question here is: Did the taxi driver see he oncoming civic? If he did, why did he move? If he did not, why did he move?

On another note, did the taxi driver see he oncoming civic? If he did, why did he move? If he did not, why did he move?

most probably he only looked once when the car in front took the turn, that was when the civic was still further from the bus stop. By the time for him to make a turn, he probably assume the civic is not speeding or intend to slow down where the cam car was only at the bus stop.

One thing is the type of "gar gar chut" taxi drivers....alot of them.

By virtue of the common age and propensity for many health-related issues for this vocation, another contributing factor is poor depth/perspective judgement, lousy eyesight, poor reaction timing. Some of these uncle, eyesight not good also don't want to get them corrected. Corrected liao also reaction time habis. Combine all 3 and you have a recipe for disaster.

The worst thing is, all of them don't have good self awareness. Just because they spend alot of time on the road they think they are god of driving.

One anyhow chiong civic meet self-deluded god of driving with almost handicapped level of driving skills.......

Yes but this accident would also have happened if (2a) the civic was travelling within speed limit. Imagine yourself as the civic driver driving safely, defensively and the MCF way when the taxi decided to cross your path last minute. Still bang.

    To answer my own question...

Notice Paper No.76 of 2015 Question No. 214 For Written Answer For Parliament Sitting On Or After5March 2015

MP: Ms Irene Ng Phek Hoong

To ask the Minister for Manpower (a) how many taxi drivers, including relief taxi drivers, are there currently; (b) of these, how many are active taxi drivers on the roads; what is their (i) average annual salary; (ii) average educational qualification; (iii) age profile; and (d) how many have been formerly working in PMET jobs and switched to driving taxis.

    Answer

    1. As at December 2014, about 98,000 Singaporeans held a Taxi Drivers Vocational Licence. About 56,000 of them were registered with taxi companies. The average net monthly earnings (less expenses) of taxi drivers in 2014 was $3,173 for a single-shift operation, and $5,933 for a two-shift operation.
    2. Of the employed resident taxi drivers in 20141, about 8 in 10 were aged 50 and above, and over 9 in 10 possessed non-tertiary educational qualifications. We do not have data on how many taxi drivers were formerly in PMET jobs.

Looks like this is an old man's profession... guess I have to be more patient with them around.

Which is why our part, esp drivers w car cam, to submit such violation to the tp instead of just posting on websites.H owever, the prblm is the tp will do their own investigation based on our video evidence n decide on their course of action without updating us on the outcome, well at least we did our part.

Got this same mz2 for my wife. Driven it a few times and noticed it has very bad blind spots. Not very well designed mirrors, pillars and passenger seat. Glad you reacted well.

You can hear the impact and see the lights malfunction a split second before you see the car flipping over.

Most likely the car lost control and hit the lights on its side causing it to ownself flip ownself .

That goes without saying. The pillars and seat are ill-designed too so less experienced drivers may not have checked their blind spot enough.

According to chain collision scenario in BOLA. Back car only claim immediate front car and so forth. No more last car bao ga liao. Even if all got car videos to show it's solely last car's fault, not sure if the insurers will deviate from guideline and all claim last car.

It will not discourage illicit touts from workshop and bad driving habits (stop suddenly to change direction, view road signs or taxi pick up passenger). How it work now is front car sue back car... Then back car sue the one at the back so on and so for...

Then when loss Liao.. Front car expense load in second car... Then second car try to put the front loading and own car claim to the one behind... So on and so for....

So technically it's still last car bear whole cost if proven the last car is liable for all the rest of the accident...

I was involve in a chain collision before and I am the second car... Total 4 car... All I know is I am clear of liability for the first car damage and my own car damage.

The reasoning behind why the back car always at fault is because the front car could be stopping for any reason but it is the back car's responsibility to keep a safe distance to ensure that there is time to react and stop. There is no reason to rear-end someone unless the driver never keep safe distance.

My case very straight forward lor ...... the moment I got out the car.

    a) Drivers A & B "seem" to know each other as their acting skill very poor. Even TCS will not take them as carrefare.

    b) Both are smiling. They are sure very happy that day.

    c) Both refuse to provide full name, particulars, insurance or as per GIA Framework.

    d) Both drive off in a hurry.

I reported item c and d lor. Item a and b, no proof, no report. You only reported things which you are in the know lor. This report, very important as all parties can see and can be use as evidence in courts for you or against you. So if judge find your essay very bad, then good luck lor.

Only me, Driver D & E very sian.

Lucky for me ??? Accident after 8 days into a new insurance cycle lor, because this type of case can pend a long time. I got 1 year to settle lor. I settle behind car within 2 weeks - I accept all offer anyhow lor. I very flexi one.

By year end renewal, I notice the premium was actually cheaper than last year. I tot Income made a mistake. Then they said I was released from all liabilities lor. Not reason given.

NCD not affected, I got NCD protection anyway - FREE. Was told there would be a "slight" increase premium lor if 3rd P claim successful.

If car usage is not high for you, suggest you take loss of use claim by money rather than courtesy car. I got about 3K for loss of use. $120 per day for CAT B car.

I can take taxi everyday ....... heeeee ....... I took MRT.

Income has the Orange Force to take care EVERYTHING. That why I ONLY buy Income.

Pray when you see a good temple, and learn and wise up lor .....

The 'very standard' and 'always front car claim back car' are what the A-WS told me too.

Err, English not your first language? In an accident, its the rear car's fault. He chose to take the risk and tailgate/don't keep safe distance. I don't see how keeping a safe distance is being a hogger. A hogger is someone that doesn't give way to a faster car behind. Nothing to do with safe distance or not.

Yes you are right. But usually a road hogger will keep a big distance from the car in front, and doesnt really care what is going on behind him, becaue he knows that if anything, it is always the rear car's fault.

So? It still doesn't mean that a person who keeps a safe distance is a hogger. A hogger is just someone who doesn't want to give way to cars behind. Most hoggers know that there are cars behind. They just don't want to give way cuz they think they are travelling at the speed limit already.

You are right. Our visibility is only the claim behind us and we claim us, that is, we claim behind and we get to choose to accept the offer to close the case. Hence a "standard" procedure.

After that, there is another round between insurers lor, they will assign the liabilities. If you are assign with a fault liabilities of less than 30%, then your NCD is not affected lor.

According to chain collision scenario in BOLA. Back car only claim immediate front car and so forth. No more last car bao ga liao. Even if all got car videos to show it's solely last car's fault, not sure if the insurers will deviate from guideline and all claim last car.

The reasoning behind why the back car always at fault is because the front car could be stopping for any reason but it is the back car's responsibility to keep a safe distance to ensure that there is time to react and stop. There is no reason to rear-end someone unless the driver never keep safe distance.

Ya I know that theory. Only good as a general guide, as there are exceptions. So, your last sentence is not true. I rear ended the front car even though I kept a safe distance and thus able to stopped in time. You know why? Because after I have stopped, the car behind me pushed me to hit the front car. So how is your last statement true?

Anyway, not keen for a debate as I am more concerned about whiplash now.

You should be able to claim from the car behind since you stopped in-time. Btw, if the car behind you is tailgating, keep a bigger gap from the car infront so that there will be more time to slow down gradually. Or just get out of his way. Lol. That is taught in driving school. So it is still the responsibility of the car behind to ensure that there is enough space. The car infront can't increase the space so not his fault if there is not enough time for the cars behind to stop.

So, if you can prove that you stopped in-time but the car behind pushed you forward, you'll be able to claim from the car behind for your medical bills and damages and whatever the first car is claiming from you also.

Singapore drivers and bikers alike like to chiong red light. This biker deserved it. Look at the speed he was travelling to chiong the light. Must have seen amber and went faster but light already changed when he crossed.

Don't know why SG still don't implement controlled turning for all junctions.. this will minimise all risk..

I know their mentality. If based on what Nsy said, they will not bother to give way at all coz if rear ended its the fault of the rear car. And they keep a big space in front so that they won't hit any car in front. Selfish mentality to the max.

As long as legal can liao.

    Let me illustrate my point.

In JB, if got car tailgate super close.. Come very fast from behind. Will you give way? I would. Why? Who knows if the guy behind is up to no good or trying to rob me..

In SG, KNN, i am legal... bloody tailgater .. you cannot do anything to me. If i angry i jam brake.. cos if accident is your fault..

In the US, not happy with anyone on the road.. you play jam brake? Or 3rd finger? Or cut people off? Or would you , suah.. just overtake and ignore. I most likely just ignore.

Why? Who know if the fella is armed with a gun?

Or maybe he is driving like an a**hole cos he is a drug dealer running from police?

Wait if i give him the finger or piss him off, he start shooting at me?

In my opinion, the potential threat of violence with very little or limited recourse actually makes people more tolerant.

Driver's legs impaled after car crash in Bukit Timah

    img-20160723-wa0013.jpg

SINGAPORE - A driver's legs were impaled by a road divider after he crashed his car on Upper Bukit Timah Road on Saturday (July 23) morning.

The 26-year-old man was trapped and officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) extricated him from the car with hydraulic rescue tools.

The accident, involving one car, happened near Springdale Condominium in the early hours of Saturday morning at about 3.30am.

The crash victim was conscious when he was taken to the National University Hospital, SCDF said.

It is understood that a metal rod from the road divider had penetrated both his thighs.

Eyewitnesses told Shin Min Daily News that the car flipped over when it crashed.

Five passers-by stopped to help, the report said. They turned the car over and waited with the driver for help to arrive.

They also kept the driver awake by talking to him while they waited, one witness said.

SCDF said it sent one fire engine, a Red Rhino, one ambulance and a support vehicle to the scene.

Anyway, this Hyundai car also damn stupid, see it coming but don't want to slow down, or no attempt to slow down. My car, even 9 year 11 months I also won't go and head on like that. Win doesn't mean head on and is ok. Or maybe his front already chui, need new spray paint. Or radiator already going to spoil, go and bang and change a new one. IMO, the driver did the right thing. Braking when the tires got no grip and already sliding won't help much. Might even make it worse. Better to just leave the pedals alone and try to steer in the direction the car is sliding and hope the front tires regain traction.

True if driver brakes really hard. But shouldn't it be better to brake slightly as compared to no brake at all?

Anyway my guess is (still) the driver was totally stunned... you look at the end of the video, car was going straight at a slow speed on the left most lane and it had traveled for some distance before the brake was depressed.

    You are totally wrong.

I had lost traction before in gravel road. I had lift-off throttle and keep my steering wheel straight. The more you try to do anything, the worse it will be.

Eventually, when the car is slow to a crawl, i slowly step on the brake until stationery.

i dont understand but confirm he says he is not breaking the law, that he was within the speed limit, that he is a law abiding citizen, that he dont understand why he is being pulled over by the tp. Am i correct?
  • 29 July 2016 - 12:51 AM
    Unfazed

Drive on overtaking lane when other lanes are empty - checked
Insist nothing wrong with driving at speed limit on overtaking lane even when not overtaking- checked
Clueless about hogging a long chain of cars behind - checked
See police kancheong jam brake - checked
After much explanation, still don't understand why his action is road hogging - checked
Every response to police is "but but but..." and "becos.. becos.. becos..." - checked
Suppose to "rush" home after work so he can't understand why he is hogging goondu logic - checked
Cannot differentiate between keeping within speed limit and road hogging - checked
Ownself say ownself as law-abiding safe driver - checked

Seems like road hogs everywhere give same excuses one leh.

If I m not wrong, the speed limit there is 110km/h.

Overall I find the officer was quite nice n patient.

The driver made known he didnt exceed speed limit and asked if it was a routine random road check when pulled over. The officer acknowledged the first point n said he will let him know soon.

Officer then clearly explained reason of pulling him over simply bcos he traveled in the wrong lane with inappropriate speed causing a long tail of vehicles behind. Officer stressed that he had been observing driver for a while then decided to pull him over inconsideration of safety.

Officer educated that the extreme left lane should be used only for overtaking purpose n speed in this lane normally hovers between 100 to 110 km/h, but officer said he had already gave chance to driver by lowering to 90km/h.

Officer went on to explain that he had to pull driver over as a last straw when driver further tapped his brake upon seeing officer bringing the speed even lower in the leftmost lane to 88km/h as that is far too slow.

What happened later in the video was the driver trying to justify that it was purely logically human nature to brake whenever they see an officer so he should not be booked just bcos of that n went on (gentlemanly, actually hypocritically) to stress that should not be a way to treat law abiding citizen. Driver stressed to officer that 2km/h slower should not get him a ticket. Officer said its not 2km/h but 12km/h dropping fr 100km/h. 90km/h was the speed that officer lowered n wanted to give some chance.

Driver explained he has no opportunity of moving bk to inner lane as it was occupied with cars exceeding speed limit (if I m not wrong), officer said the vehicles had to exceed speed limit to overtake him on wrong lane bcos he is far too slow by taking up that overtaking lane. In addition to that braking was a potential accident hazard to others.

Driver then requested for a warning but officer said (this is the best part) if no amount of education can cultivate, then a summon had to be in place. Officer stressed that he had to do his job as a road enforcer.

Driver insisted he had been wronged n stated he will not sign. Officer said driver has all the right not to sign as driver can decide to appeal or not.

Driver later post this video up on web to air his fustration.

Hope my summary is clear as it could for non-chinese or non-mandarin speaker.

I enjoy taking the longer route sometimes to drive on changi coast rd. Very relaxing and easy drive during light traffic. At that hour and traffic, can't imagine how to get into such a car wreck.

So far never encounter any ghosts, fairies, aliens, vampires or werewolves there. Speedsters quite a few. Pls be considerate to beings from alternate dimensions. Don't always blame them for problems caused by humans.

That must be my bil you are quoting.

recently like a lot of skidding accidents....pls try to minimize this by checking your tyres....if treadwear is low, pls get it change. Esp if u like to speed. Not only for your own safety but other road users own safety.

You might want to be cheapskate and refuse to change, but pls do not drag other road users into your accident.

audi driver is just a super idiot.

there are just situations where there is no way u can win, no matter what, u need to let the other guy go first.

this example describe it best, merc just see show, let audi do 1000 point turns also LL have to wait for merc to complete his parking [laugh]

that being said, merc head in parallel lot is a noob mistake.

at the end of the day, is 2 kuku drivers creating the joke of the day [smash] [smash] [laugh]

if I am the merc (as if I can afford one), I would take my own sweet time to park at the lot in front instead reversing into the lot initially taken by the audi. [:p]

If the accident was due to the lau lung driving style, I rather the driver got injured (not his life) and learnt his lesson than some innocent victim got hurt/killed in an accident caused by him in future.
