New Harrier Japan part 4

    sknight

    Bro Sknight,

Can't wait to see your new grille with blue LED stripe light. Post more photos once install.

Neither can I wait for it to arrive. Haha. I initially had my wife agreement for body kit then last minute decided to wait and try the car first before deciding on the body kit. Later the added weight slows the car down hahaha

Today was an eye opener to me. Was at Taka car park and a guy came and ask me about our ride, what model is this? Very nice!!! How much??? Reasonably priced!!!
    Can I see inside??? Wow!!!
Is PI reliable??? Can you give me their contact!!!

Was at a car wash in Serangoon Gardens and another guy asked me the similar questions. Only his answer was different for the interior
Can I see inside??? Very nice Full leather.
Can I have your dealer name card???

Haha so so funny but nice that we are more confident!!! (Citizen)

One thing about the car that did not go so well was when I was driving down slope on Taka car oak, the car vibrated a lot when I was driving a little fast and breaking harder than usual. Could it be the ABS? When I drove slightly slower and break lighter it was fine. Any of our mates experience this?
Has anyone installed front strut bar? If so do share where you got it as I would like to install one.
    Thanks!

Not very fair to my PI to post the full deal as other PI will then know.

I can only share that I am using Pioneer 8650 player, their flagship with Galactico GPS. Full leather with driver memory seat and electric passenger seat. No sonar system leh. Warranty is 3+2 years. Auto High Beam.

    How about yours?

    Same bro :).
I was suppose to get the 5550, but my PI called later to inform it will upgrade to 8650. Sweet.

Seems like full leather with driver adjust seats has become the standard.

Question become whose price is more attractive.

    Did you install the camera?

    Hi,

Can someone share with me when you switch on your headlight when it is dark, which one do you use? And what is "Auto"? I was used the 3rd mode yesterday whereby you could see a "oo" on the display panel. I hope that is not high beam. Thank you.

Haha. Nice. Question for you bro is does your 8650 connect to a third party GPS and what brand? Mine having some interference sound. Do you have that issue?

My PI is trouble shooting it in house at the moment.

Are you referring to the reverse camera? It came standard in the package.

I got my PI to bring over my Black Vue over from previous ride.

    hisknight

driver memory seat meaning u can set the profile for each driver then just select the profile, instead of manually adjusting the height, position each time u change driver? Wow that is good. Mine only has driver set electronic height/position adjustment, no memory.

How much did u top up to get the memory seat?

Yes that is right. There is 2 memory setting. 1 for my wife and 1 for me. It is also connected to the electronic steering wheel function.

My passenger seat is electronic adjustment too but no memory function.

I went for the Premium Full Leather package which is suppose to be the top specs in Singapore. Not many PI carries that.

For premium, there are a few possible option to add-on. I believe jdm only bringing either the standard and fill leather.

If if hv the full leather, the memory seat adjustment comes together

    The other options are
    - "radar" cruise control with sonar
    - Jbl sound system
    - cold weather model.
    - Add ac at booth.

PL will give leather option but at what price.

Great. One solution for me is for them to change brand. Thanks.

I saw this sense just behind the grille. Wonder is this is the sonar sensor. Will give it a try tonight in KPE.

Does any of your mates here bought their car with Sonar Cruise control, your steering wheel will have the the button controller?

    1. Ask the PL is it included since its an option
    2. It's on the "cruise control" controller. Ask Google, and itvwill show u exactly where.

Not included just double confirm with PI and also check on the meter display. If it has sonar the cruise symbol will have a car at left top of the "timer".

Anyone has this option in their car?

Mine do come with the LDA more for the lane alert. Tried it today and it was interesting. When car is very gradually drifting near the side kerb there will be beeps and the lane display will blink. If abruptly swerve toward the kerb it will beep and your steering will counter steer automatically.

This is different from my friend BM 3 series where it will beep and steering will vibrate but not counter steer.

    Wow!!! Amazing Toyota!

Sharing another point here. Recommended tyre pressure for 18" is 240kpa, I tried 255kpa and found the tyre vibration is transmitted to the car rather high. Weird that this is the case as my previous ride I had 270kpa for almost the same tyre size and did not have this issue, then again I am comparing Continental / Michelin tyres with our Bridgestone. Haha.

I will try 240kpa tomorrow. Me just itchy backside!!! Haha

Hi Guys, bought the maintenance DVD for our new harrier, which teaches you how to dismantle front, rear bumpers, change the lights etc etc. For the benefits of all owners of the new harrier, PM me and i will "lend" you the DVD. It's in Japanese, of course, but video walk-through is crystal clear. Was able to do my own sound proofing on the doors myself after watching the DVD.

Why would you want to get JBL sound system? From the specs, the sound will be very sucky. There is only one amp for all speakers and the sub. Money better-spent on other audio equipment if you want better audio quality.

saw on youtube that the jbl sound system in japan harrier looks more integrated and neater on the dashboard so i thought it can be ordered.

I did a concealed 13" subwoofer beneath the rear boot panel and the audio quality is great. Here is a pic of the JBL system. Look at the speakers and you will be turned off to spend money on it. IMO, it looks exactly like the stock speakers i got rid of.

    Hi all,

    I need some advice.
I currently own a Jun 2008 civic with omv $21087.

Am looking to upgrade to a harrier grande or elegance.
I calculated my civic depreciation as 43500(est trade in price) minus 21087 divided by 3.5years
    Worked out to $6400/yr.

How much would be the depreciation per year for harrier?
I do not want to fork out more than 15k for the 3.5 yrs of depreciation.
Paying full the balance if deal works out.

Would I be able to get a deal now or do I have to wait for COE to drop?
    Please advice

    Here is my 2 cents:

I can share with you is the car price is around $152K and its OMV is around 28K(??). Based on simple calculation, the depreciation for Harrier comes close to 13-14K per year. Singaporeans are a bunch of irrational buyers when comes to buying car. It is also hard to predict the trend of COE. If I were you, drive all the way till 10 yrs?

The wisest choice would be to drive your civic for 10 years, that would be the greatest deal you can currently enjoy as it is hard to predict the price of COE accurately on top of MAS changing regulations. Right now, you ask around all forums from mcf to hwz, every tom, dick and harry waiting for 2015 to change new car, what drop can one expect? When MAS introduced the 50% down and max 5 years loan, everyone thought price would nosedive, but that was also when COE neared 100k. My advice is save up enough money and when you think you can afford, buy it, enjoy it and don't look back. Life's too short for regret on such stuffs.

They were factory-fitted toyota speakers, paper cone with foam surrounding the edges looks exactly like the pic of the jbl set. I changed the speakers to Morel tempo 6. You can take out the door panels to see exactly how they look like. IMO, earlier change and earlier enjoy better audio quality the better. Most of our Harriers come with the top end Alpine or Pioneer Head Units, really a waste to output to such nonsense speakers.

No use to recommend any specific brand imo, make a trip to any reputable audio shop and hear the demo. Bring along a CD u like to hear.. sound quality is very very subjective.... Do not bring MP3 to test, uncompressed audio format is best..

Once changed, and you see the speaker they took out, you will know any change is better than the stock ones..

Did the fire wall and floor today. Left out the boot and doors. Slowly do to know the difference, as some of our Bros recommendation is correct on not trying to make it dead quite.

With the chassis and fire wall, sound was reduced further and floor vibration over rough road like some section of PIE was reduced drastically.

Even installer said it is now very quite and great improvement. No need to do door unless I start going into ICE.

They were very helpful as they solved my GPS and Head Unit buzzing sound. They went through proper channel by contacting the GPS vendor and troubleshooting it at NO extra cost.

Please note that original car is already quite, I am just itchy and now have a contented heart. Haha.

The VITAS takes a long time as they have long waiting list. Normally upon receipt of application they take around 4 to 7 weeks to pass the vehicle. Then another 4 day for dealer to finalise the documents.

    Hope VITAS is faster now.

Bro, you mentioned you get your call in a month, so how is it possible if VITAS takes 4-7 weeks?

I installed both my 4-channel amp and monoblock under the rear passenger seats and fitted a 1-farad cap. in there.. unobtrusive.

There are certainly a number of PIs passing off as buyers... inducing people to think about adding, changing parts, inducing negative behaviors towards certain/other PIs...

Got space? How about heat? Do you have to cut?

Haha.

How much did you spend for the firewall and floor? Thanks.

More than enough space, the amp are not those compact-sized ones. Heat not an issue, nowadays all these amps have very high temp threshold.. Cut? Cut simi?

I did partial fire wall as I did not want them to remove the full dashboard. So they did slightly more than than half up, center console removed, front and rear seats for the entire flooring. Stop short at the boot as I wanted to slowly hear the difference and do I need to do more? To me no...fire wall, floor and wheel arch made loads of difference and am happy with it.

Price for partial fire wall and floor was shy of 1k. Using STP!

Depends if yours has electrical seats.... If yes only a small 2 channel amp can be fitted below the front seats but it will be tight.

If not electrical seats than have plenty of space.

I am still looking at where to place a 4 channel amp as the last place is the boot, spare tyre area.

    Anyone has other suggestion?

There is a big space under the rear seat. Pop up the cushion and the whole area can fit in 2 amps and a capacitor and still have space to spare. Planning to install a Digital TV receiver inside too, soon. There is nothing installed under the front seats, so rain water or any spills wont get to it and doesn't matter whether you have electric seats or not.

    confused. [furious]
the more I read up, the more I am confused. Speaker got differential by component and Coaxial speaker.
then don know need AMP or woofer or not...

Now I just wait for the car to arrive first and test the sound quality see whether I am able to accept or not.

Bro Marler123, have u got any update on your new wife ETA?

Bro, there are too many brands and models for you to consider. SQ is subjective. Depends how deep is your pocket. Since you already for a pioneer or alpine HU then maybe spend another $1.2 to 1.5k to buy some speakers, amp, subwoofer and cabling will do.

Just suggesting, a 2 ways component speakers for the front, a 4 channels amp to drive it. A subwoofer and a 2 channels amp to drive it. For rear speakers, it's less important for driver. A 6 x 9 speakers in you wan. If your HU is pioneer, can spend another $800 to buy a processor to do time alignment. Sound proofing, you can do the 2 front doors since you installing the front speakers. You also can slowly upgrade to feel the different and enjoyment.

Reputable Installer there are many, I used to go chuan sing at serangoon garden.

There is really no ending if you are into ICE. I have frens changing his system regularly. For me, once I happy with it then will not spend unnecessary money.

    Cheers!

My pockets no as deep as you might think. I understand from my friends. This is an expensive hobby.
My budget is ard less than 500. If more than that i probably will just stick to it stock speakers.

IMHO, spend abit on upgrading the speakers and add a amp first is a must. $500 can go a long way if you know the right things to buy (some 2nd-hand stuffs are good value), for a start. Save on sound proofing as the car is already well insulated and i don't think anyone drives the car around with the car audio totally switched off. A set of good speakers turned up loud enough and playing your favourite tunes is not only relaxing, but also can drown out any road noise etc etc..

Agree with Mazdaseller on his pointer. As for me I bought this car expecting great comfort so I focused on that as my priority.

    Music SQ was third.

Second to me is stiffen the ride and better breaks. This is me focus for new year project.

The difference I can't remember exactly, but definitely not what your pi told you. I believe the differences include additional connection options, connection to more mobile phone devices by usb, and for 6 instead of 5, there is dual zone. Check www.pioneer.com.sg for more details

Sorry, with full leather, it allows more axis of electric adjustment and memory seat.

Quick question for those driving this new toy.

Is the CVT 'elastic' at highway cruising speeds? e.g. if you are cruising at 2k and 90 kph, you press the accelerator a bit more does the rev jump up? Or likewise, if you foot off to cruise on momentum, does the rev drop to idling?

Remember to run in your engine. Once change oil after first servicing the engine is slightly smoother and rev is easier.

Noted. Thank you very much bro sknight!!!

Read your review, super good, very informative.

    Enjoy your ride!!!

I used to drive a Nissan with first generation CVT. So I understand what you mean which happens during that time where Audi CVT was chain and noisy but with no slip.

With this new generation CVT in the harrier. When I keep it at around 2000 to 2200rpm the speedo will keep climbing gradually but rather "fast".

When at 90 kmh, my rpm is around 1400 to 1600. To overtake I go around 2500rpm and the cars kmh increases confidently and comfortably without slip.

So far I have not slam to 4000 rpm as am on 1500 clicks. Done my first oil change and engine is raving easier.

Do not expect rocket launch like conventional gear box (200 bhp car) but I find the speed increase is very good for a big body car with 2 litre engine.

In summary, the new CVT is improved tremendously and I do not feel any slip when I rev to 2800 rpm and engine noise is not gasping or struggling.

Very painful indeed. I was in the same shoe.
If you look at in 2 years time if COE drops to 45 to 50 k, your present car price will also drop by 20 plus k and you still need to fork out the same 50 k later as now.

Ok maybe slightly lesser by 2 to 3 k. So I bite the bullet at do it now. Sell high buy high concept. Savings will come with lesser interest payment relating with lower monthly.

Of course if COE drops more than a gain for you.

Below is the exact process how i got to purchase my Harrier, if any steps missing or skipped, might wanna chekc with your PI/ sales person.

    1) 10k deposit for COE on booking day. ( I insisted to pay by credit card, some might not allow)

    2) Sales person arranged for loan approval on same day (all documents, income tax or CPF etc)

    3) Finance company (Hong Leong) called on the same day to confirm that a request for initial loan approval was made thru PI

    4) A copy of the Usual sales agreement with all details, with company chop, sales person's signature and one higher-up's signature and name. Took both name cards

    5) A "menu" of insurance company to select from, detailing the price and add-on for panoramic roof, decision to be made upon loan approval / car collection

Nothing more was paid.. I checked the COE bidding process with my name and IC number. but it wasn't on the system the whole process right up to the week before my car collection date, reason being that the PI bidded already previous weeks and have on hand some COEs Cat "E" and if need to, they will transfer the COE instead of bidding for you and in any case, the COE is 1 bid guaranteed. When taking over the car, sales person will explain and ask you to sign the "taking over"" of the CAT E form, this was made known to me that there is a chance that PI will transfer a CAT E COE and need your signature to agree.

    Hope i have helped....

Anyone with the new Harrier fitted with full Modellista kits?

    New Harrier has :

    *  Beautiful dashboard.

    * Economy compared to the previous Harrier 2.4 .

    * "Smart Car" with lots of safety features.

    * Lots of accessories to dress it up.........etc

So what if its a Harrier or a Lexus? Its the Japanese who share same design and owners just wanna change the emblems. Nothing

    wrong with it.

Now with the 2 companies producing different designs of SUV so cant change the emblem. Lexus is out with NX models, and they

totally look different from the new Harrier.

Customized it the way you like it. All cars comes with many brands of body kits. Just do it with taste and the cars will stands out.

As long as not fitted with spoilers bigger than the rear of car........hahaha... i think most youngsters think that with "wings" cars can

    fly.........hahahahaha .

This is horrible news. My colleague had a similar experience with another dealer early this year. Unfortunately he lost all his deposit as dealer ran away and return declaring bankruptcy.
I almost went with the body kit but decided to wait and save some money. However the grille will be in this week.

If the lights could move left to right I will add the sound of "Voom....Voom"!!! Yucks!!! if it could move I will not get it.

This lights are very subtle so does not look beng IMHO. and the fit and finish is typical Jap standard.

Installation straight forward. Can be self done. If come with all the instruction 11 steps and wiring. Plug and play thing with some fixtures taking from existing grille.

Let me try the auto and see how. But I am getting my installer to
do a bypass switch. I had ordered the original push button switch from Japan through a friend and have 1 or 2 spare n if you keen.

Wa so many coming in then BM may have 2nd thought

BM will never bring in Harrier.

    The reason :

Same or similiar with Rav4, same engine set up, same wheelbase samiliar OMV.

Since Harrier has a much better interior, then it will direct crash the Rav4 market.

Go to surf Japan's Toyota website and you will find in Japan they still selling the old Rav4.

If they start selling the latest Rav4, either new Rav4 can't sell or crash the market of Harrier (Rav4 is cheaper).

OK new Lexus NX is also base on the new Rav4 & Harrier, but at least the engine set up is different, either turbo or hybird and the interior is even better than Harrier. Lexus is target another tier of customers, therefore no worry to crash each others' market share.

    Just my one cent.

Gotten my ride. PI is cartimes. No hanky panky and everything was delivered as promised and also the delivery date. All in...took about 2 weeks only. Feel better and safer to order ex-stock.

A couple of questions for owners,

    1. Where is card holder? Usually is right hand side... but Harrier no have leh.. unless put at the center console where it was for drink?

    2. Any user manual in English? I have the Jap version... wahahahaha

    3. I understand the height of the auto tail gate can be programmed to a certain height and it will remember. Just now was testing it with the SE. But now i want to reset so that it goes the full height.

Other things potential buyer may want to know:

    1. Smooth acceleration but no feeling of Torque or the pull. Just gradual acceleration. I didn't floor accelerator since running in.

    2. I am surprise the cornering is pretty smooth.

    3. The Jap version of the console doesn't bother me since it comes with icons which can easily make out what it means.

If you want but more power. Use the steering right button and navigate to Settings. Scroll down to Economy and select off. Your engine will be on normal mood and have smoother rev and surge.
Else use the power and it revs to 4000 rather fast.

Firstly, I can help you run in. Within 2 week I reach 1k. Haha.

When you press ECO mood, it really is ECO where it is really for slow slow drive and super save fuel but car picks up slowly and I really mean slowly.

Off the ECO mood it is on Normal mood thus your dashboard display does not have the ECO lighted at the top. Will take a picture to show you if you need. Then as I mentioned with the button on the steering to Settings, you can select ECO on or off! Acceleration is faster and computer tracks your ECO range with a green ECO sign on your RPM meter. Easy rev to 2500.

If you off, rev is faster and computer does not track ECO. Go give it a try once you reach 1000 km and you will know the difference.

    Have fun.

First time use auto gate very shiok.... 3 days later i start to find waiting for it to close abit waste time lol.

I got 18" bridgestone tyres, how abt the rest? Funny i saw dunlop in showroom but end up get bridgestone which supposingly is better brand right?

For the front sensor, do u guys switch it off too? Very fan too hear the beep beep beep.

yeah. but some PI carry the elegance with no wood trimmings, while some PI has.

    Premium definitely has wood trimmings.

perhaps you can choose between elegance (with moonroof) vs premium, then the difference is 7k, which you may then be willing to top up. [bounce2][bounce2][bounce2]

one thing i dont understand is the color. some PI state that pearl white/black need to top up 1k, while others say dont need.

Mine is a premium model but it doesn't seems to have the car alarm. Based on the user manual, the alarm should sound when I open the door without remote control with me, but it doesn't. How I test it was I stayed inside the rear seat and get someone else to arm the car, then I opened the door from inside, but it doesn't sound.....

Strange thing is all my windows has this Toyota Alarm sticker on it...?

Anyone of you tested out on the harrier alarm system?

For the car alarm, i tested and it is working. Very loud i have to dash and grab the remote to turn it off! Because i did it in multistorey carpark... so this is a warning for those who want to conduct the test.

    1. Unwind driver side window. Infact any window is fine.

    2. Lock the car and walk away with your transponder.

    3. Then leave your transponder about 20metres away but still within your view and pls consider traffic direction as you would need to make a dash for it.

    4. Walk to your car, try to unlock the door, you will fail since the transponder is not with you. If the door unlock, that means your transponder is not far enough.

    5. Now comes the test.... from the unwound window, reach out for the unlock knob of the car door..... count to 3, and then unlock the door by lifting the knob. The car alarm will go off!

    6. Needless to say, now make a dash to your transponder and then press the unlock button to stop the alarm. Test complete!

Of course if got 2 people to test then easier. No need to run.

The paranomic roof is another great feature. The kids love it. It makes the cabin look roomier. I luv driving with the cover retracted on rainy days...for best result try with lightning!

And also there is no bluetooth to be connected to the phone, according to the salesperson its becoz the dvd player is not original player from japan, that's why cannot be connected, anyone knows if i can get this fixed in any workshop?

    Thanks!

    This would be nice...

my last car was a civic 1.8 too.

expect to have less acceleration, but at least the wife and kids will enjoy the new car more. bobian... happy wife happy life

cant wait to collect my new ride in Jan!

Well, when you buy Jap SUV, you can forget about acceleration, unless you buy those turbo charged ones. The rest of the Jap SUVs acceleration are in the same range, some are worse. X-Trail has only 140+ BHP, Rav4 essentially same as Harrier, CRV made in thailand, Murano also same acceleration, ditto CX-5.. like my previous post mentioned, the one with most power is Forrester.. then again you sacrifice ride quality and FC. Harrier most plush inside, looks are peerless and excellent FC. And you have big space as compared to sedan (can put my L size road bike and close the tailgate, no need to use bike rack).. Mitsubishi outlander newly launched and also same acceleration, body heavier than harrier even though 2.4L. If it's any consolation, the RX 270 have slower pickup than our harrier.

IMO, no one will challenge SUV at red light one lah.. everyone knows the outcome.. :) and we have better things to do. If one is still so focus on pickup, then he is looking at the wrong car.

On the USB port, most of the DVD HU has an USB port behind,. U have 2 options, 1 is to use an extension cable to extend the port to your glove box.

2nd is to extend the USB to a USB dash mount. I did this. I bought the USB dash mount and passed it to my PI's audio installer. The dash mount fits nicely into the rectangular port in the central console beside the cigarette socket.

Something similar to this http://www.ebay.com/...d5c9225&vxp=mtrbut mine is the rectangular shape.

3rd option is to buy this USB dash mount that can be wired to your car fuses. Nowadays they have 1A and 2A options for Android and IPhones.

For those with Alpine Head Unite INE-W947E (or similar) to change the default "Alpine" startup logo to any picture you want. Follow these simple steps here i found online.

    Here is the sequence:

    1) Put the splash screen image on the root of a USB memory stick. The filename should be: apn_pa_opening.bmp (all lowercase)

Two things you need to know. First, make sure the image is 24 bit bitmap (BMP) format. The preferred size is 800x480; if you use a smaller size, it will center it as best as it can. Now if you want it to work, you should take your desired image and save it into 24-bit BMP using Microsoft Paint, the crummy Paint program that comes standard with Windows. MAKE SURE TO USE PAINT -- for some reason, the Alpine firmware is very touchy and needs the Paint format. I have a Mac and used a very good file conversion software utility to convert my PNG image into 24-bit BMP, and the Alpine didn't accept it and locked up with a "Please Wait" message. Windows Paint is the standard, so use that and make sure it actually reserves the image in that format. If you have a Mac like me, borrow a friend's Windows machine and use Paint to resave it into 24-bit BMP.

Second, make sure the USB stick is formatted as FAT32. If you format it in Mac format, for example, the Alpine won't recognize it. Same with older formats like FAT16. You can do a "properties" on the USB drive to see its current format; if it's wrong, reformat it as FAT32.

    2) Turn on your Alpine, plug the USB memory device into your USB port. (There does not appear to be any desired order here; you can plug the USB in before powering up, doesn't seem to matter.)

    3) As others have mentioned, press the BAND soft key (on the touch screen) for two or more seconds. You will find this by setting the current audio/music to either FM or AM band, and the "BAND" key will be on the screen.

    4) Press the NAV/AUDIO split screen soft key (on the touch screen). This will move to a split screen mode, obviously.

    5) Press the PHONE key (hard key); on my unit this is a physical key on the bottom.

    6) Press the VOLUME DOWN key (hard key); again on my unit this is a physical key.

If it works, you should see a "Please Wait" message pop up on the screen a bar or other progress indicator. If the format is correct, it should keep that message up for three or four seconds, and then reboot the head unit, and you will see your desired splash screen upon startup.

I was looking at some pre-delivery Harriers in Turf City carpark and realized that many have labels indicating 10k cevs rebate.

Those who have got their car, is that true ? I was assuming there is no rebate as RAV4 using same engine has zero rebate.

that is the case for almost all dealers - their price would look forbidden otherwise.

Any bros here have been given, or purchased the Retractable Cargo Cover?

It is not a standard offering in both Elegance and Premium, and one PI told me it would cost additional $500-$600.

i am sorry, but i am new to this.

i have a question about the COE guarantee thingy.

what do they mean when they said: "Price of car is $158,000 with guarantee COE."

but when i sign the form, the COE is $65,000.

base on the pricing of the COE now, i have to top up another 8K on the 7th Jan? or am i guarantee the car no matter what price of the COE is on Jan 7th?

    thank you ...

Means $158k including the COE. So if the COE went up, your car dealer will have to earn less, but if COE goes down, they have more profit.

My car dealer also guarantee COE, when i signed the COE was $68k, and they bidded for me at $74k (in the previous bidding exercise), so my car dealer earn less.

And my car dealer also promised in case the COE go below $60k, they will refund me which it did not happen since COE go up.

    Hi
    http://m.ebay.com.sg...148?_mwBanner=1

I think the cable provided is only 80cm. If your port is further than 80cm u need additional USB extension cable.
The other port is a 3.5mm 4pole jack, u can also connect to your HU with a 4 pole cable, if your HU supports it.

I can take a picture on my central console later. If u know how to remove your dash panels can diy else get the audio guys to do it.

You are right, cable looks a bit short for center console.

Definitely better to get those installers used by the PI you got from. At least they are likely to be more farmiliar with the car.

So your Pioneer can be connected with bluetooth to your handphone? means you can use your your phone in the car right?

I thought there should be an option for this, when i ask the dealer they said only the original player from japan can be connected with the bluetooth.. -_--_-

I feel there is a different between the panel Eco Mood and when you are on normal mood with eco selected through the driver display panel. On Normal Eco the acceleration to 2000 is fast and more responsive.

Is it me only or everyone feel there is no different?

I tried the different modes. Indeed without eco on the dash and central console...the pickup is faster. But like what many said...SUV ma... enjoy the elevated view and forget abt acceleration. Really a smooth drive. I took the tanah merah flyover joining ecp corner at 60km/hr ++. Ok leh quite stable. Nice!

Unfortunately it is not a standard part. No harm just trying it out.

My friend drives the previous harrier and we compared it with the new. Power wise is different as you don't feel the surge but horsepower is almost the same. Speedo climb is around the same.

Any idea if the wire to connect Iphone to stereo is included in the 8650 BT?

I have add on GPS(Module unit) and Digital TV into this 8650B.

Also get a module which can connect the Siri and the phone pick up and off on the steering..

The Apple car play can only connect when upgrade to latest firmware(at australia pioneer web).

The pioneer ppl say upgarde at your own risk, u need to bring back to service centre if u need to revert back the firmware version..

I think there is a new version (5750BT), where u can connect the other three buttons without the additional module..Check it out..

    Good choice. [thumbsup]

Harrier is good, value for money.

I am very happy with the performance of my current harrier which is 2.4. I am a bit worry about my new harrier which is only 2.0 though, hopefully the performance is still as good.

    Hi Anne88,

Im too having my Harrier 2.4 GL and awaits my New Harrier to arrive.

The current tonneau cover of your Harrier will not fit the new model.

If you need any parts for your new Harrier, let me know. I have some new parts available.

Is yours a premium model too?

I have different grills if you require.

Whatsapp me and i can show you the pics.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Anyone know where can get accessories for the Harrier? I am still waiting for mine to come in.

    Hi Redcat,

What do you need? Grill? Bodykits ? Bumper lights? Led Scuff Plates? etc.....

    Hi Lawsng,

So your Pioneer can be connected with bluetooth to your handphone? means you can use your your phone in the car right?

I thought there should be an option for this, when i ask the dealer they said only the original player from japan can be connected with the bluetooth.. -_--_-

Do your player comes with GPS?

Mine only come with DVD player, i had to top up $400 to have GPS, my DVD player is X1650DVD.

Cool, will get this..Thanks Jovineo.. [:)]

Your head unit is likely installed in Singapore and not from Japan. You should be able to ask them to install one with BT.

The roof noise seems to be common issue. More of a fastening or bushing thing. Not fully sure but my workshop seem to be able to solve it for other owners.

I am sending my car there next week as they said will require a full day.

Ok, since got a few Harrier Owners looking for the Tonneau Cover, if anyone is interested in organizing a group buy, can get it from amazon japan, Rakuten international, yahoo japan sites. But personally, i have bought some accessories from amazon Japan and seller is reliable with good repute.

Here is the link,it costs JPY? 23,598, about SGD $273 (paypal ex.rate), exclude shipping back from Japan. There are two ways of doing it, one is you buy your ownself from the link and ship back yourself. Other way is we put names here, see how many want, one person in charge and we can all split the shipping costs.(Maybe a mini meetup during collection :p ) There is no indication of weight or the volume of the tonneau cover packaging, so only will know the final price of shipping from package forwarder when shipping back. I believe however much the shipping fees will be, it will still be cheaper than getting it from our own PI. Since Tonneau cover is easy to fix on, no need spray paint etc, can get it ourselves. What do you guys think? Firstly, gotta know how many actually want it. It would be best if someone who knows abit japanese can organize this..

I will be the first on the list then.

U can actually get your PI to send the car to the detailer before you registered your car.

This would have save u some downtime after u collected the car, especially if your paint protection are those types that requires curing time.

My PI is helpful enough to do that upon my request.

There is a video in this link http://item.rakuten..../irc2006/w0005/

It shows how the remote close all the 4 windows 1 by 1. Doesnt show windows opening though I suspect it is possible.

The harrier manaul says that if u press n hold lock n unlock it is meant to control thw windows. Maybe an OBD is needed for the press n hold to work.

How many layers was yours? It can go up to 5 layers..
Get the products from him to maintain it yourself.

I will be trying on my crystal coating from Japan after I get my Harrier...50ml good for 2 cars... those workshop sure makes a lot. Charging $1xxx.....lol
But self apply you need a covered carpark or place. As you can't get it wet after applying... and no car wash for 1 week...
Gonna try it on my rims first. Smaller area to test it out b4 I apply it on the body...

    Hi Everyone,

I intend to purchase the premium / GS version by this month , any good PI that is reliable and trustworthy to recommend will be appreciated.

At the same time, may I know is the brake "soft and spongy" for such a big car as the Toyota Wish I am currently has a "soft and spongy brake" and therefore I upgrade the brake the day I took my car.

Thanks in advance for all the advice :-)

After your ceramic coating, your shouldn't be wash in a week... why dun you ask George.

If after applying the ceramic coating.... you dun hv to go petrol car to wash your car lor.... as the water will just "slide" off your car... and it shouldn't be easily dirty lor.

Self wash ma... as car wash their clothes might be wif dirt tat might scratch lor...

Btw we are talking abt ceramic pro. Not R69.

Wait till I use my spray on coating agent which I bought from Japan. Then I will show you if it's as effective as they claimed. Each application can last 6 months... cheaper than getting it polished.

Yes. Cause when you collect you car the PI will give it a normal polish. With the actual first detailing normally it come with first coat of sealant or ceramic (if you can afford) coating which will start protecting your paint work on day 1 from certain % of scratches and our harsh weather.

I ordered the pika rain from the US website. With shipping its $30 cheaper. I figured spending $130 to keep the paint in good condition for 3 years is worth it if it works out. Else it's not a lot to get cheated for haha. Have had many experience with bird droppings corroding the paint

We can tell the PI not to polish the car right? My car coming in April. I noticed many PI not selling the full leather package. The center cushion can suck sweat if we drive right after exercising. Very clever to sell the full leather package at the highest price range.

I do not think they will reduce price if you opt for no polish.

You have to check with the leather is factory or local made thus the difference in price but not sure about the quality as I have no chance to compare.

Any bro can explain what is the difference for smart stop start setting - long and normal?

That is the idling stop time. Long that means when the Stop and Start system kicked in, the idling time is longer.

Just stick, to normal in Singapore hot weather as the aircon is off when the stop & start kicked in.

Not able to do a comparison only on the leather cost as half leather and full leather package includes different electronic functions. If you consider all this it should be around 5 to 8 k.

Then again my price comparison was 3 months ago not sure what is the latest.

Not sure what are 99%IRR and 98% UV rejection. But this is what I found from one motoring:

    Tinted films

The following requirements must be met when installing tinted films:

    a) They must not be of the reflective type.
    b) The resultant light transmittance for the front windscreen and two front side windows must be at least 70%.
    c) The resultant light transmittance for the rear windscreen and the rear passenger windows must be at least 25%.
    d) The front windscreen must not prevent, obstruct or interfere with the transmission of signals between the In-vehicle Unit (IU) and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) facility.

    Hope it helps.

basically 99% UV rejection and up to 98% heat rejection... since already paying so much for car, might as well top up on the solar film. but the default harrier already have solar film for the rear passenger seats... so, would like to know what the default % for UV and Heat Rejection.

Bros with Pioneer 8650 or 2650 HU, does the system integrate with the Harrier's steering wheel buttons? Speaker Volume, Channel UP Down, call answer / reject button and also voice command button.

What is the top up price you are paying to up it to 8650?

There's an alpine 9" model that looks almost like the factory unit except the side buttons are not touch sensitive. I paid $3k for this unit plus $480 for phone mirroring. Will only be available mid jan but open for order already.

Bro, where you got this unit and also the GPS can work? The iphone mirroring is using HDMI in. Any headunit with HDMI or AV in can do that.... It is not considered mirroring, more like A/V output, as the alpine touchscreen cant control the phone.

Here is a video on that HU, specially made for Harrier by Alpine... Looks freaking cool!!

Just collected my Harrier Premium yesterday evening. Love it, but need lots of familiarization in the next few days but am enjoying the ride and comfort. Noticed most owners having a Pioneer head unit, but mine is an upgraded head unit Kenwood DNN9350BT - amazing set with very complete functionalities.

    Question:
    - have any of you found an English manual ver? Pl share

Will be glad to exchange and share info with other Harrier owners...

I'm also upgrading it to the Kenwood 9350BT.

So how much more did u pay for the upgrade? My dealer asked for $400 more. So I told him to refund me and I get my own 9350. As I got it cheaper than them. But waiting for the stock to arrive.

So how's the 9350? Good rite? Able to hv wifi hotspot.
Able to pair 2 phones at 1 time too.

Got it from my PI prime cars. Don't know which workshop he got it from but can find out. After the first batch comes in will be populated slowly in local workshops. But it's expensive I must say. My PI told me the mirroring add on I paid for is wireless

Ok... i guess he must have used some airplay device hidden behind headunit to do that. There is a way to use apple TV and some in other forums were using chromecast.

Did you see the previous YouTube post by mazdaseller? Title reads x009e. I never thought of the model number until you reminded me hehe.

Did a search the price is around there. On the Thailand site it also says the Bluetooth connection module is sold separately. Guess that's for the wireless mirroring.

basically 99% UV rejection and up to 98% heat rejection... since already paying so much for car, might as well top up on the solar film. but the default harrier already have solar film for the rear passenger seats... so, would like to know what the default % for UV and Heat Rejection.

Most prob will do the front passenger seats solar film, wanna know if worth it to also do for the rear...

You should be doing the rear passenger seats solar film instead because the original one from Toyota won't pass the LTA inspection, too dark. At least that's what all PI i visited said.

no. only have the measurement after the installation.

No cost to me coz I asked my PI to absorb. I asked for the K37 vkool. The final readings tally with the K37 specs.

do you know ur vlt, irr, uv readings prior to the vkool for the rear seats?

can also share how much was the damage for the vkool? which package did you choose?

Yeah, got my car yesterday, finally. :) harrier indeed a good car!

But lot of things to explore..one thing i cannot take it is, it keep saying "drive carefully", very loud and noisy, i am not sure if its from GPS or from the other source. I tried setting from GPS but still cannot off it, does anyone know how to off this? My HU is pioneer 8650.

I managed to off the eco mode from the steering, is it possible to keep power mode on all the time? The screen are in japanese, do anyone have the translation?

    Thanks and Happy driving!

It has all the features, Wifi,GPS..

I think that time(sept 2014)The reason I did not go for it is, Price are high, Garmin not my type, and some say the sound Pioneer is better..

I only know the answer to 1 of your question. That is the AHB Auto High Beam. When you press it and when you push your lamp lever forward, the AHB will on the high beam automatically when the situations warrant it.

Some of the situations are when street lamp is lowly lit, no vehicles with light in front, travelling speed. The AHB optical sensor is at the centre front of the windscreen infront of the plastic.

If u never press AHB and u push the lamp lever forward, it will straight away high beam.

Hope other bro can advise on the other 2 questions.

The gloss thing, dont worry about it, your leathercare is doing a better job than the one your PI used. Those kind they used are just glossy kind, good leathercare products seldom are glossy ones and most impt provide UV care to prevent cracking long-term. My meguiar's leather care also not glossy, but very good for the leather.

Prime car was not in my shopping list but I saw a lot of harrier inside so went in to take a look. Everything I ask for they can give, price reasonable. Workshop big. Only thing is trade in value low. I decide to buy now because the full leather model need to order and wait a few months.

I guess hup long bring in lots of harrier as they expect most of the volks auto victims to be shopping around now. that's why offer better prices. they are very aggressive, within one month can collect car, and trade in value higher than others.

Just use 98. N a use in Japan their Ron is 100. Thus 95 your engine may start Knocking and damage your pistons and cam shafts. Remember the Transformers movie where Megan Fox said "cam shaft" Haha. Maybe just me who gets this perverted joke.

For fuel tank it is correct. Not rocket science accuracy but close. 20 km roughly is 10L plus your 48L = 58L ~ 60 L. Maybe I can be your math teacher. LOL.

Hi, been following this thread for quite a while coz am interested to go for the Harrier when my current ride COE expires in a few months' time; need some advise for when the time comes.

    1) After the recent Volks Auto saga, and hours of combing through car forums, I have narrowed down my choices on a few PIs, but other than price, reputation, available stock, case trust, direct importers etc. what are the other things that constitute a good PI?

    2) I've been driving a close-to-10-years-old bnb car and so used to it that most modern features (electric seats, electric tailgate, auto headlights and wipers etc.) are not really important to me (panoramic roof's pretty nice though), I just want a nice looking, good to drive, efficient car so in my case, would the difference between Grand, Elegant and Premium be very drastic? Thanks in advance if you're thinking to send me the specs sheet, but I've already been through them, am asking for individual feel or opinion?

    3) This is more of a stupid question, and is more for folks who'd already gotten their Harriers or at least placed deposits. What makes you go for it? What sets this car apart from some of the others like the Mazda CX5 or Hyundai Sante Fe etc? Again, individual feel or opinions as I like to hear other's thoughts.

    Thanks in advance.

After driving for 9 months, i can say for certain, when the fuel light comes up, there is at least 10+ litres of fuel left, i even went 80km after light came out, on 19inch rims.. so those on stock can go further. Full tank gives me 620km +/- 5%

For me, i decided to go with the PI that runs their own workshop, install anything or servicing have 6 months warranty and they have extensive experience with toyota vehicles.

Think of it this way, when the time comes for you to sell in the future, you will be competing against premium grade harriers, and definitely your resale value suffers. Other than that, not much difference and like another bro said, the auto tailgate sometime takes too long to open and close.

    It's a Toyota..... and a Harrier...

LOL, no lah.. looks so much nicer when compared to the others and it helps that it is economical to run and of course, no money buy new RX or NX....

Hmmm... The point on PIs who operate their own workshop is sound and valid. I totally wasn't thinking about that, was only considering if the listed workshops are close to work or home.

But wait, if a PI claims they work with "partner workshops", does this count?

    Thanks!

    I have to agree.

My current ride is a Toyota and besides a couple of punctured tires (let's just say I work on hazardous grounds) and the one time I crashed a few years back, she has never given me any major problems; yes, even AFTER the crash (+ the 10 odd days in the work shop).

    B. Motors however, I wouldn't dare to say the same. Yayapapaya since day 0, and got right out once the 3-years' up. CVT travel up north very safe la. it's not the traditional belt that will break. My colleague drove his axio to KL last year and we went around in his vehicle and back without any incident.

Agree with you. I took my Axio all the way to Penang 2 years back, with wife, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her 75kg husband. Drove around there for 3 days. I got a flat left rear tire along the N-S highway while coming back. Got it changed to a spare tire and drove to the nearest workshop to repair the flat and that's when the machanic found nails in the rest of the other 3 wheels. Got all the tires patched real cheap...think was something like $10 ringgit per wheel.

Basically I would be able to drive all the way back with the nails in the tires, if not for the 75kg brother-in-law who seats just above the left rear wheel that caused the tire to go flat.

So, other then the tire incident, there is no other issues. And I'm still driving the same Axio with 3 more years left in the COE. Next ride looking at the Harrier.

Points on Cruise Control and Lane Departure are taken, thanks. Used to do the NSHW a lot when I was a younger man, Got too tired on my way back once so I pulled over, on my hazard lights and took a nap with my engine and a/c on and windows and doors tightly shut. Was awaken suddenly by strange noises and opened my eyes to see 2 guys seemingly trying to open my window (was too dark to see clearly). Whispered to my girlfriend (of that time) to hold on, quietly put to "Drive" and sped off.

The two guys didn't give up, they went back and gave chase in their car and I was driving so fast that I could feel my car "floating", and "drifting away" even on the slightest bends. I must have hit 130 or 140 at some point, luckily my engine didn't give in. Fortunately they gave up after a while but I never stopped and drove all the way back.

Wow.... that's scary! another reminder for all of us, to stay vigilant all the time! Count yourself lucky to escape an obvious robbing attempt.

About the doors tightly shut, it is a good idea to have the doors automatically locked once you start to drive off, and the doors can only be unlocked manually by the driver. I have my car doors' locks altered to behave this way. Why I did it is because I have heard stories of drivers getting robbed while stopping at traffic lights. Robbers can come by and open your doors to take away anything, eg laptops, bags, handbags, etc. There is nothing you can do once the robbers speed off in a motorcycle, while you are stuck at the traffic light.

Come to think of it, I have seen on a TV program. Can't recall which Starhub channel. The owner of a car had all kind of defensive machanism build into his car including bulletproof windows, doors, grease ejection from the back, huge sharp spikes, etc.

He also has pepper sprays installed around the car. This can be a good way to ward off robbery attempts. Wonder if it's legal to do that in this little red dot. Drive up to boleh land, stopped at traffic light, robber on motorcycle attempt to pry open your windows/doors. You give warnings. If robber still do not heed the warnings, spray him with pepper. confiscated by which custom? Sg or JB?

All these years i have a short base ball bat in my car. Been having it for at least 15 years.... as i do drive jb often.

Recently the officers at Sg custom asked me if i play baseball.... i told i did but long ago....

Another ask me why i have a baseball bat in my car....... i told him " to JB you dun need protection ? " and he kept quiet.

So my baseball bat stays with me. Just in case.....touch wood. But if "bullets" i also will guai guai give in lor......hahahaha

confiscated by which custom?

My wheels is equip wif anti- hijack device..... if at traffic lights and they hi jack my car n throw me out..... the cant drive far as the car will stall in within 100 metres or so...... and alarm will goes off.....unless they tow my car away lor.....hahaha

the key difference is, mine is a police baton and yours is a baseball bat, though yours is more destructive. these ppl follow SOP like zombies. a police baton is in a different classification as compared to a baseball bat. zombies cannot differentiate hahaha

Haha.....then keep a steering wheel lock that ppl uses as protection instead of locking the steering wheel....

Police baton not useful to them too..... saw that Mercedes that crashed thru the sg customs quite some time back?

They only use the retractable baton to wave [smash][smash][smash].......not to smash the window to pull out the key or unlock the door n pull out that guy too...

So dun use police batons lah...... [smash]

At least mine can STRIKE 1....or STRIKE 2 or STRIKE 3......OUT ! take them out....hahahaha

     Hi all,

Toyota are reliable and cheap to maintain.... tats why from all years of driving continental, i switch to the 1st generation Harrier. Now still with my 2nd generation Harrier and await my 3rd generation Harrier to be delivered to me in Feb.

    .........

Harrier never wrong !..... Most spacious and nicest SUV beside the Higher end Continental SUV which are all $3xx k

All the owners here at this forum will tell you that they are happy with their Harriers..... so GO FOR IT !

Wow, a very good, strong and convincing post.

But what about spares and replacement parts?

Say, if I (touch wood) get into an accident and need to replace everything before the engine or everything behind the back seats, would replacement parts be easily and readily available, or would I have to leave my car in the workshop for weeks waiting for parts to be shipped in from overseas?

Managed to solve your roof? Can share what was the reason and how it was resolved?

    Hi .

    Yap, finally it solved.

There is few of us(Under the same agent 0 complaint to the agent, one of us actually leave the car for 10 days to let the mechanic troubleshoot for 10 day, eventually , they found the cause..

I didnt see how they resolve, spoke to the mechanic (Boss), they need to open the roof(not the glass), adjust the roller, is the roller that cause the " knocking " sound when travel on the uneven road.

I sent my car twice ..finally get it done..

He already fix quite a number of this harrier issue..

    Is a whole day event..

bro benchoo, can explain what do you mean by pre-crush? whats the pros and cons

I think you can get the idea from this youtube video. I can't translate for you, but my take away is, if there is car in front of you stopping suddenly and you are at risk of colliding, it will show the alert on the dashboard to get you to brake it. Some intelligent could apply to the brake so you brake faster, with shorter braking distance as a result.

Ultimately, still need you to be alert while driving, but help reduce the possibility of collision.
