Anyone bought from Volks?
Bro Marler123 bought from them. Hope he took delivery before shite hits the fan.
That being said, how come there's no regulatory body to oversees car dealers in Spore? Is it under SVTA's jurisdiction?
Below is the exact process how i got to purchase my Harrier, if any steps missing or skipped, might wanna chekc with your PI/ sales person.

1) 10k deposit for COE on booking day. ( I insisted to pay by credit card, some might not allow)
2) Sales person arranged for loan approval on same day (all documents, income tax or CPF etc)
3) Finance company (Hong Leong) called on the same day to confirm that a request for initial loan approval was made thru PI
4) A copy of the Usual sales agreement with all details, with company chop, sales person's signature and one higher-up's signature and name. Took both name cards
5) A "menu" of insurance company to select from, detailing the price and add-on for panoramic roof, decision to be made upon loan approval / car collection

Nothing more was paid.. I checked the COE bidding process with my name and IC number. but it wasn't on the system the whole process right up to the week before my car collection date, reason being that the PI bidded already previous weeks and have on hand some COEs Cat "E" and if need to, they will transfer the COE instead of bidding for you and in any case, the COE is 1 bid guaranteed. When taking over the car, sales person will explain and ask you to sign the "taking over"" of the CAT E form, this was made known to me that there is a chance that PI will transfer a CAT E COE and need your signature to agree.

Hope i have helped....

Anyone with the new Harrier fitted with full Modellista kits?

New Harrier has :

*  Beautiful dashboard.

* Economy compared to the previous Harrier 2.4 .

* "Smart Car" with lots of safety features.

* Lots of accessories to dress it up.........etc

So what if its a Harrier or a Lexus? Its the Japanese who share same design and owners just wanna change the emblems. Nothing

wrong with it.

Now with the 2 companies producing different designs of SUV so cant change the emblem. Lexus is out with NX models, and they

totally look different from the new Harrier.

Customized it the way you like it. All cars comes with many brands of body kits. Just do it with taste and the cars will stands out.

As long as not fitted with spoilers bigger than the rear of car........hahaha... i think most youngsters think that with "wings" cars can

fly.........hahahahaha .

I almost went with the body kit but decided to wait and save some money. However the grille will be in this week.
Can't wait for it.
I have joined the club... waiting for my Harrier from Ramen land... hope it can clear all the necessary customs etc ...& get deliveredbefore CNY!!

Welcome on board!!! The good news for you is your car us at the port. Challenge is port clearance very slow so my PI is going there personally to collect the grille first while their Harriers are stuck for clearance.
If they clear by early Jan you should be able to get your car before CNY. YEAH!!!
Which option did you go with?
I went with Premium, not full leather though.
Went for Chocolate brown, so my PI told me will arrive by mid- January
So there is a high chance of late delivery

Went with this PI as I knew him since college days so risk of non- performance should be mitigated

Would love to see you actual colour.
Comforting to know you went with a PI you know.
I too hooted white harrier premium. Should be collecting before X'Mas....tomorrow is COE bidding.. was told since guaranteed.. it is a non event for me.. :P
Any harrier dedicated forum around? Can learn more abt the ride also discuss mods and issues *touch wood*

I gotten my COE today and join you guys on the road before X'Mas!

Really is rare... i so far only caught glimpse of it 2 times since i booked the car.
Wait end Jan '15 there is will be alot coming in. The technician of my PI said just their company alone have 40+ Harriers to be delivered in Jan and those were the Sept '14 order.
Welcome to the owners of Harrier!!!

Hi all
Here is my grille. Comments?
Naise! Damage? Can the blue light move left to right like the knight raider?
I got mine from my PI so the price is different if you buy from other outlets.

here is one shop that is selling, the Japanese price is already $1,000 before GST and freight.

http://www.mycarforu...d&product=80279

If the lights could move left to right I will add the sound of "Voom....Voom"!!! Yucks!!! if it could move I will not get it.
This lights are very subtle so does not look beng IMHO. and the fit and finish is typical Jap standard.

No need to envy, you can get it too since bonus is around the corner. haha

Tonight there was a 7 series owner next to me at the red light, he kept turning to look at our ride and the ultimate was when he wind down the window and stick his whole head out to look at the Harrier.

I should have ask him if he wanted to do a free trade! haha
Hi all
Here is my grille. Comments?
Is the installation straight-forward? thinking of getting a grill and self-install, but the wiring could be difficult? The light is connected to position light? What if light is at auto position?

Hi all

Looks great, bro!
Is the installation straight-forward? thinking of getting a grill and self-install, but the wiring could be difficult? The light is connected to position light? What if light is at auto position?
Installation straight forward. Can be self done. If come with all the instruction 11 steps and wiring. Plug and play thing with some fixtures taking from existing grille.
Let me try the auto and see how. But I am getting my installer to
do a bypass switch. I had ordered the original push button switch from Japan through a friend and have 1 or 2 spare n if you keen.
This is one ofmy list of potential new cars when I want to change in 2015.

Anyone can recommend a good PI? Is there one where I can at least test drive it? (can PM me if you want, thanks).

I refuse to buy any car without driving it before. It is only in SG that car dealers can get away with this nonsense of no test drive.
Wa so many coming in then BM may have 2nd thought
BM will never bring in Harrier.

The reason :

Same or similiar with Rav4, same engine set up, same wheelbase samiliar OMV.

Since Harrier has a much better interior, then it will direct crash the Rav4 market.

Go to surf Japan's Toyota website and you will find in Japan they still selling the old Rav4.
If they start selling the latest Rav4, either new Rav4 can't sell or crash the market of Harrier (Rav4 is cheaper).

OK new Lexus NX is also base on the new Rav4 & Harrier, but at least the engine set up is different, either turbo or hybird and the interior is even better than Harrier. Lexus is target another tier of customers, therefore no worry to crash each others' market share.

Just my one cent.

That grill with the blue blue lights, can pass LTA inspection meh?
I would like to seek feedback from the car owner of the feel for the chassis. Is Harrier Chassis soft?

I read that Harrier is based on Rav4 and the review is that Rav4's chassis is soft. I test drove the latest Altis and felt that the Chassis was soft too. Maybe Toyota's Chassis is generally soft?

No idea man. Thus doing a bypass switch. Haha. No worries lah.
Soft??? I only know flex or stiff. Haha.
It is a SUV so there will be certain amount of flex. If you want stiff then add struts and under brace. Even standard lexus comes with under brace.
Hope this helps.

Quite sure blue lighting is not allowed anywhere on the car exterior lor. Cos blue reserved for emergency vehicles. Better play safe.

I wrote to one exporter in JP asking if they have a version where the multi information display can be program to English (trying my luck) because I heard it can be done via software conversion, Let's see any response from them.

Wow this would be excellent. But are you buying from the exporter or you have to then connect the local PI and this exporter?

I am new to this, how does this exporter and PI thing work out?

One of the reason I ended up not buying my current car model from PI (I wanted manual, local AD only auto) was that the damn dashboard was all Japanese.
It is not up to BM to decide. The decision lies with TMAP.
Since importer is tmap, does it mean premium model is all the same from any PI?
I think once witch to driving suv, can forget abt cornering....high center gravity...later end turtle up like the suv at orchard last year. Think he was turning into orchard rd from scotts rd.

If really can then most likely connect the local PI cos I'm new to this. I will also explore how ppl ship their car out modify and ship back. Still a long shot from here but no harm checking.
Mind you, Harrier is not for this market. No official importer for Harrier.Since importer is tmap, does it mean premium model is all the same from any PI?

On cornering, SUV not necessary bad. Look at Cayenne, X5 or X6.
BMW had not equipped with spare tyre for many years (model) already.
If you worry just use run flat tyre.. for your Harrier.
Agree. Was not me worried about no spare tyre. Mine came included as I go JB once every 2 months. Even so do not really need spare tyre as I know some tyre workshop there.
Now most cars come with air pump to replace the spare tyres for minor puncture.

Can learn a few jap words for driving lor.. shouldn't be tough. Especially men since young already into jap culture amd movie industry. Lol
Gotten my ride. PI is cartimes. No hanky panky and everything was delivered as promised and also the delivery date. All in...took about 2 weeks only. Feel better and safer to order ex-stock.

A couple of questions for owners,

1. Where is card holder? Usually is right hand side... but Harrier no have leh.. unless put at the center console where it was for drink?
2. Any user manual in English? I have the Jap version... wahahahaha
3. I understand the height of the auto tail gate can be programmed to a certain height and it will remember. Just now was testing it with the SE. But now i want to reset so that it goes the full height.

Other things potential buyer may want to know:

1. Smooth acceleration but no feeling of Torque or the pull. Just gradual acceleration. I didn't floor accelerator since running in.
2. I am surprise the cornering is pretty smooth.
3. The Jap version of the console doesn't bother me since it comes with icons which can easily make out what it means.

on resetting, see manual page 95. Press and hold 7 seconds, then buzzer sound 2 times to indicate that it has been reset to initial setting.
Else use the power and it revs to 4000 rather fast.
If you want but more power. Use the steering right button and navigate to Settings. Scroll down to Economy and select off. Your engine will be on normal mood and have smoother rev and surge.

Thanks guys for the tips. Great drive. So many features to meddle with. lol I tried the lane warning, the steering wheel resisted, very interesting.

The anti skid on the right hand side... how come it is "Off" ah? How to on it?

During run-in, no high rev no high speed until 10k km? That's a torture.

Firstly, I can help you run in. Within 2 week I reach 1k. Haha.
When you press ECO mood, it really is ECO where it is really for slow slow drive and super save fuel but car picks up slowly and I really mean slowly.
Off the ECO mood it is on Normal mood thus your dashboard display does not have the ECO lighted at the top. Will take a picture to show you if you need. Then as I mentioned with the button on the steering to Settings, you can select ECO on or off! Acceleration is faster and computer tracks your ECO range with a green ECO sign on your RPM meter. Easy rev to 2500.
If you off, rev is faster and computer does not track ECO. Go give it a try once you reach 1000 km and you will know the difference.
Have fun.

Things in premium are nice to have. Less the auto gate, I don't use the rest at all, hence reluctant to spend the additional amount. Still wondering if I shld make the jump. Thanks
What's the typical price difference between Elegance & Premium? If high like 10k - then may not justify.

First time use auto gate very shiok.... 3 days later i start to find waiting for it to close abit waste time lol.
I got 18" bridgestone tyres, how abt the rest? Funny i saw dunlop in showroom but end up get bridgestone which supposingly is better brand right?
For the front sensor, do u guys switch it off too? Very fan too hear the beep beep beep.
I like the cruise control and the lane change sensor.

yeah. but some PI carry the elegance with no wood trimmings, while some PI has.

Premium definitely has wood trimmings.

perhaps you can choose between elegance (with moonroof) vs premium, then the difference is 7k, which you may then be willing to top up.

one thing i dont understand is the color. some PI state that pearl white/black need to top up 1k, while others say dont need.
Mine is a premium model but it doesn't seems to have the car alarm. Based on the user manual, the alarm should sound when I open the door without remote control with me, but it doesn't. How I test it was I stayed inside the rear seat and get someone else to arm the car, then I opened the door from inside, but it doesn't sound.....

Strange thing is all my windows has this Toyota Alarm sticker on it...?
Anyone of you tested out on the harrier alarm system?

agree. I find it time wasting. I find that I tend to open it in advance using remote control before I reach the car.

For the car alarm, i tested and it is working. Very loud i have to dash and grab the remote to turn it off! Because i did it in multistorey carpark... so this is a warning for those who want to conduct the test.

1. Unwind driver side window. Infact any window is fine.
2. Lock the car and walk away with your transponder.
3. Then leave your transponder about 20metres away but still within your view and pls consider traffic direction as you would need to make a dash for it.
4. Walk to your car, try to unlock the door, you will fail since the transponder is not with you. If the door unlock, that means your transponder is not far enough.
5. Now comes the test.... from the unwound window, reach out for the unlock knob of the car door..... count to 3, and then unlock the door by lifting the knob. The car alarm will go off!
6. Needless to say, now make a dash to your transponder and then press the unlock button to stop the alarm. Test complete!

Of course if got 2 people to test then easier. No need to run.

Edited by Mazdaseller, 26 December 2014 - 08:25 PM.
Can help me check. After u armed the car, does the alarm indicator blink or hard on?
The alarm indicator is the one with a padlock and car on your tachometer.

Gene, my car lock indicator is flashing. Transponder not with me when i checked.
So now all can pang sim the car got alarm.

Can any kind bro take a picture of the location of the siren? Maybe mine don't have siren? The indicator seems normal.
Also would like to share how to disable your transponder temporarily to save transponder battery when u r not going drive for long period. Press n hold lock on the remote then press unlock twice. The led will blink 4 times. Now if you try to use the smart entry it will not work.
To enavle press any key on remote
BUT.......with barely 150horses, it will be a let down.......sigh...otherwise will consider it as a family car for the wife.
How are the torque figures, anyone.

My alarm doesn't sound when I tested it. The indicator is solid on when armed and blink when I disarm.

Nan dao u kena short changed by your PI? Why dun you clarify with your SE?
The paranomic roof is another great feature. The kids love it. It makes the cabin look roomier. I luv driving with the cover retracted on rainy days...for best result try with lightning!
Torque and acceleration is something i miss since my last ride is a civic fd 1.8l. After break in complete then i try to push harder and compare. Keke

Looking to install the Intelligent clearance sonar. "The Intelligent Clearance Sonar detects obstacles when starting off, and, if an obstacle is detected, triggers an alert while controlling engine or motor output according to the circumstances. Furthermore, in the event of mistaken or excessive application of the gas pedal, the Intelligent Clearance Sonar will apply the brakes to mitigate damage from collisions that might occur10."

Join the wagon buddy. LOL
Civic has the surge feeling but if you compare the speedo climb is almost the same when Harrier is on Normal mood. I drive my colleague civic 1.8 3 times a week and to reach the speed climb my rpm is around high 2 to 3k.
IMOH
You can also change eco, normal or pwr mode directly with the buttons on the panel board just in front of the gear stick.

I feel there is a different between the panel Eco Mood and when you are on normal mood with eco selected through the driver display panel. On Normal Eco the acceleration to 2000 is fast and more responsive.
Is it me only or everyone feel there is no different?
Yup. I know a PI who is going to bring this in. If only I did not buy so early.
Interior is carbon fibre and comes with special design sports seats.
So sad!!!

I just bought harrier premium, collecting my car next week. My car is at the showroom now, i went to see yesterday, i was surprised there is no USB charger (still using cigarette adapter), anyone know if this is right.? Or it is hiding somewhere which i didn't noticed? Or is there any workshop who can install USB charger?
And also there is no bluetooth to be connected to the phone, according to the salesperson its becoz the dvd player is not original player from japan, that's why cannot be connected, anyone knows if i can get this fixed in any workshop?
Thanks!
For bluetooth, change to a head unit with that option.Hello...

Well, when you buy Jap SUV, you can forget about acceleration, unless you buy those turbo charged ones. The rest of the Jap SUVs acceleration are in the same range, some are worse. X-Trail has only 140+ BHP, Rav4 essentially same as Harrier, CRV made in thailand, Murano also same acceleration, ditto CX-5.. like my previous post mentioned, the one with most power is Forrester.. then again you sacrifice ride quality and FC. Harrier most plush inside, looks are peerless and excellent FC. And you have big space as compared to sedan (can put my L size road bike and close the tailgate, no need to use bike rack).. Mitsubishi outlander newly launched and also same acceleration, body heavier than harrier even though 2.4L. If it's any consolation, the RX 270 have slower pickup than our harrier.

IMO, no one will challenge SUV at red light one lah.. everyone knows the outcome.. :) and we have better things to do. If one is still so focus on pickup, then he is looking at the wrong car.
On the USB port, most of the DVD HU has an USB port behind,. U have 2 options, 1 is to use an extension cable to extend the port to your glove box.

2nd is to extend the USB to a USB dash mount. I did this. I bought the USB dash mount and passed it to my PI's audio installer. The dash mount fits nicely into the rectangular port in the central console beside the cigarette socket.

Something similar to this http://www.ebay.com/...d5c9225&vxp=mtrbut mine is the rectangular shape.

3rd option is to buy this USB dash mount that can be wired to your car fuses. Nowadays they have 1A and 2A options for Android and IPhones.
drool.... Toyota Harrier G sports concept

For those with Alpine Head Unite INE-W947E (or similar) to change the default "Alpine" startup logo to any picture you want. Follow these simple steps here i found online.

1) Put the splash screen image on the root of a USB memory stick. The filename should be: apn_pa_opening.bmp (all lowercase)
Two things you need to know. First, make sure the image is 24 bit bitmap (BMP) format. The preferred size is 800x480; if you use a smaller size, it will center it as best as it can. Now if you want it to work, you should take your desired image and save it into 24-bit BMP using Microsoft Paint, the crummy Paint program that comes standard with Windows. MAKE SURE TO USE PAINT -- for some reason, the Alpine firmware is very touchy and needs the Paint format. I have a Mac and used a very good file conversion software utility to convert my PNG image into 24-bit BMP, and the Alpine didn't accept it and locked up with a "Please Wait" message. Windows Paint is the standard, so use that and make sure it actually reserves the image in that format. If you have a Mac like me, borrow a friend's Windows machine and use Paint to resave it into 24-bit BMP.
Second, make sure the USB stick is formatted as FAT32. If you format it in Mac format, for example, the Alpine won't recognize it. Same with older formats like FAT16. You can do a "properties" on the USB drive to see its current format; if it's wrong, reformat it as FAT32.
2) Turn on your Alpine, plug the USB memory device into your USB port. (There does not appear to be any desired order here; you can plug the USB in before powering up, doesn't seem to matter.)
3) As others have mentioned, press the BAND soft key (on the touch screen) for two or more seconds. You will find this by setting the current audio/music to either FM or AM band, and the "BAND" key will be on the screen.
4) Press the NAV/AUDIO split screen soft key (on the touch screen). This will move to a split screen mode, obviously.
5) Press the PHONE key (hard key); on my unit this is a physical key on the bottom.
6) Press the VOLUME DOWN key (hard key); again on my unit this is a physical key.
If it works, you should see a "Please Wait" message pop up on the screen a bar or other progress indicator. If the format is correct, it should keep that message up for three or four seconds, and then reboot the head unit, and you will see your desired splash screen upon startup.

what do they mean when they said: "Price of car is $158,000 with guarantee COE."
but when i sign the form, the COE is $65,000.

base on the pricing of the COE now, i have to top up another 8K on the 7th Jan? or am i guarantee the car no matter what price of the COE is on Jan 7th?

Means $158k including the COE. So if the COE went up, your car dealer will have to earn less, but if COE goes down, they have more profit.

My car dealer also guarantee COE, when i signed the COE was $68k, and they bidded for me at $74k (in the previous bidding exercise), so my car dealer earn less.

And my car dealer also promised in case the COE go below $60k, they will refund me which it did not happen since COE go up.

Q00
Hi
http://m.ebay.com.sg...148?_mwBanner=1
I think the cable provided is only 80cm. If your port is further than 80cm u need additional USB extension cable.
The other port is a 3.5mm 4pole jack, u can also connect to your HU with a 4 pole cable, if your HU supports it.
I can take a picture on my central console later. If u know how to remove your dash panels can diy else get the audio guys to do it.
You are right, cable looks a bit short for center console.
Definitely better to get those installers used by the PI you got from. At least they are likely to be more farmiliar with the car.

Hi Lawsng,

So your Pioneer can be connected with bluetooth to your handphone? means you can use your your phone in the car right?

I thought there should be an option for this, when i ask the dealer they said only the original player from japan can be connected with the bluetooth..

I tried the different modes. Indeed without eco on the dash and central console...the pickup is faster. But like what many said...SUV ma... enjoy the elevated view and forget abt acceleration. Really a smooth drive. I took the tanah merah flyover joining ecp corner at 60km/hr ++. Ok leh quite stable. Nice!I feel there is a different between the panel Eco Mood and when you are on normal mood with eco selected through the driver display panel. Harrier is good, value for money.

I am very happy with the performance of my current harrier which is 2.4. I am a bit worry about my new harrier which is only 2.0 though, hopefully the performance is still as good.

Unfortunately it is not a standard part. No harm just trying it out.
My friend drives the previous harrier and we compared it with the new. Power wise is different as you don't feel the surge but horsepower is almost the same. Speedo climb is around the same.
My friend said new model is better handling and smoother. He fills the older model interior is bigger.
But new model is a smart car as some of us knows. Haha.
Just to share.
nice "shoes"
Guess soon we all will be talking about what tyres and etc Haha. I am now using Michelin Latitude Sports. Superb handling and grip compared with the Bridgestone. Not that the latter is not good. It's just me being itchy.

The pioneer ppl say upgarde at your own risk, u need to bring back to service centre if u need to revert back the firmware version..

I think there is a new version (5750BT), where u can connect the other three buttons without the additional module..Check it out..
What is the brand of your digital TV and roughly the price? Thanks a million.
Good choice.

Harrier is good, value for money.

I am very happy with the performance of my current harrier which is 2.4. I am a bit worry about my new harrier which is only 2.0 though, hopefully the performance is still as good.

Hi Anne88,

Im too having my Harrier 2.4 GL and awaits my New Harrier to arrive.

The current tonneau cover of your Harrier will not fit the new model.

If you need any parts for your new Harrier, let me know. I have some new parts available.

Is yours a premium model too?

I have different grills if you require.

Whatsapp me and i can show you the pics.

Anyone know where can get accessories for the Harrier? I am still waiting for mine to come in.
Hi Redcat,

What do you need? Grill? Bodykits ? Bumper lights? Led Scuff Plates? etc.....
Edited by BenChoo69, 30 December 2014 - 03:09 PM.
Hi,

If your Harrier is fitted with the pre-crush , its not suitable...

Which model is yours?

Wanna consider the Modellista body kit?

I quite like the current body, so I am only looking to perhapschange the grille and to black rims.
Flirting with the idea to lower the suspensions
Hi Lawsng,

So your Pioneer can be connected with bluetooth to your handphone? means you can use your your phone in the car right?

I thought there should be an option for this, when i ask the dealer they said only the original player from japan can be connected with the bluetooth..

Do your player comes with GPS?

Mine only come with DVD player, i had to top up $400 to have GPS, my DVD player is X1650DVD.
Cool, will get this..Thanks Jovineo..
Your head unit is likely installed in Singapore and not from Japan. You should be able to ask them to install one with BT.
U can ship the tonneau cover from japan yourself.
I haven't doen it yet but meaning to do so.

The roof noise seems to be common issue. More of a fastening or bushing thing. Not fully sure but my workshop seem to be able to solve it for other owners.
I am sending my car there next week as they said will require a full day.
Thanks for sharing the info about the digital TV. With check it out.

Ok, since got a few Harrier Owners looking for the Tonneau Cover, if anyone is interested in organizing a group buy, can get it from amazon japan, Rakuten international, yahoo japan sites. But personally, i have bought some accessories from amazon Japan and seller is reliable with good repute.

Here is the link,it costs JPY? 23,598, about SGD $273 (paypal ex.rate), exclude shipping back from Japan. There are two ways of doing it, one is you buy your ownself from the link and ship back yourself. Other way is we put names here, see how many want, one person in charge and we can all split the shipping costs.(Maybe a mini meetup during collection :p ) There is no indication of weight or the volume of the tonneau cover packaging, so only will know the final price of shipping from package forwarder when shipping back. I believe however much the shipping fees will be, it will still be cheaper than getting it from our own PI. Since Tonneau cover is easy to fix on, no need spray paint etc, can get it ourselves. What do you guys think? Firstly, gotta know how many actually want it. It would be best if someone who knows abit japanese can organize this..

I will be the first on the list then.

i booked appointment with them next sat after collection of my harrier.
U can actually get your PI to send the car to the detailer before you registered your car.
This would have save u some downtime after u collected the car, especially if your paint protection are those types that requires curing time.

My PI is helpful enough to do that upon my request.

Can share the details of are you doing the ceramic polish and how much is it for our ride? Thanks.
Another good thing abt the OBD attachment is u can use your original remote to control windows.
Does this mean that the OBD can use the remote to open all windows too?
It shows how the remote close all the 4 windows 1 by 1. Doesnt show windows opening though I suspect it is possible.
The harrier manaul says that if u press n hold lock n unlock it is meant to control thw windows. Maybe an OBD is needed for the press n hold to work.

I will be trying on my crystal coating from Japan after I get my Harrier...50ml good for 2 cars... those workshop sure makes a lot. Charging $1xxx.....lol
But self apply you need a covered carpark or place. As you can't get it wet after applying... and no car wash for 1 week...
Gonna try it on my rims first. Smaller area to test it out b4 I apply it on the body...
Yes I know can DIY too... I chose the 3 layers package.

May i ask if after the paint work protection, can we still wash the car at petrol station? Their jet spray seem powerful.
May i ask if after the paint work protection, can we still wash the car at petrol station? Their jet spray seem powerful.
After your ceramic coating, your shouldn't be wash in a week... why dun you ask George.
If after applying the ceramic coating.... you dun hv to go petrol car to wash your car lor.... as the water will just "slide" off your car... and it shouldn't be easily dirty lor.
Self wash ma... as car wash their clothes might be wif dirt tat might scratch lor...
Btw we are talking abt ceramic pro. Not R69.
Wait till I use my spray on coating agent which I bought from Japan. Then I will show you if it's as effective as they claimed. Each application can last 6 months... cheaper than getting it polished.

I am not from r69. just recommend only with details.
Did my second detailing today. Check out the reflection in poorly lighted car park.
Normal sealant only. Ha ha
Give me some praise if you like so I can have power up in the forum. Haha

Nice!! Can also see your tooth from the reflections ??

On another note, saw 2 PIs advertising for the new Harrier Hybrid 2015 4WD model in sgcarmart.
Thanks all for the praise. Will return the favour.

Yes. Cause when you collect you car the PI will give it a normal polish. With the actual first detailing normally it come with first coat of sealant or ceramic (if you can afford) coating which will start protecting your paint work on day 1 from certain % of scratches and our harsh weather.

I ordered the pika rain from the US website. With shipping its $30 cheaper. I figured spending $130 to keep the paint in good condition for 3 years is worth it if it works out. Else it's not a lot to get cheated for haha. Have had many experience with bird droppings corroding the paint
We can tell the PI not to polish the car right? My car coming in April. I noticed many PI not selling the full leather package. The center cushion can suck sweat if we drive right after exercising. Very clever to sell the full leather package at the highest price range.

I do not think they will reduce price if you opt for no polish.
You have to check with the leather is factory or local made thus the difference in price but not sure about the quality as I have no chance to compare.
What's the price difference btw full leather and premium partial leather?

Any bro can explain what is the difference for smart stop start setting - long and normal?

That is the idling stop time. Long that means when the Stop and Start system kicked in, the idling time is longer.
Just stick, to normal in Singapore hot weather as the aircon is off when the stop & start kicked in.
What's the price difference btw full leather and premium partial leather?
Not able to do a comparison only on the leather cost as half leather and full leather package includes different electronic functions. If you consider all this it should be around 5 to 8 k.
Then again my price comparison was 3 months ago not sure what is the latest.

Anyone kept the original read window? The quality of the aftermarket replacement rear window is not as good as the original. Anyone knows if we can pass the inspection with the originals. Thanks.

so did anyone change the rear solar films of their harrier to the 99% IRR and 98% UV rejection?
Just collected my Harrier Premium yesterday evening. Love it, but need lots of familiarization in the next few days but am enjoying the ride and comfort. Noticed most owners having a Pioneer head unit, but mine is an upgraded head unit Kenwood DNN9350BT - amazing set with very complete functionalities.

Been driving the Axio. COE expiring in 2-3 years' time. So, starts researching a bit for our next ride.

The price is scary indeed. It's 2.5L engine and 4WD, wish it's only 2WD. Don't go off road, so the 4WD is not necessary.

Not sure what are 99%IRR and 98% UV rejection. But this is what I found from one motoring:
Tinted films
The following requirements must be met when installing tinted films:
a) They must not be of the reflective type.
b) The resultant light transmittance for the front windscreen and two front side windows must be at least 70%.
c) The resultant light transmittance for the rear windscreen and the rear passenger windows must be at least 25%.
d) The front windscreen must not prevent, obstruct or interfere with the transmission of signals between the In-vehicle Unit (IU) and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) facility.

Hope it helps.

basically 99% UV rejection and up to 98% heat rejection... since already paying so much for car, might as well top up on the solar film. but the default harrier already have solar film for the rear passenger seats... so, would like to know what the default % for UV and Heat Rejection.

Most prob will do the front passenger seats solar film, wanna know if worth it to also do for the rear...
I beleive u can get your solar film vendor to do likewise since u are doing at least the front.

There's an alpine 9" model that looks almost like the factory unit except the side buttons are not touch sensitive. I paid $3k for this unit plus $480 for phone mirroring. Will only be available mid jan but open for order already.

Bro, where you got this unit and also the GPS can work? The iphone mirroring is using HDMI in. Any headunit with HDMI or AV in can do that.... It is not considered mirroring, more like A/V output, as the alpine touchscreen cant control the phone.

Here is a video on that HU, specially made for Harrier by Alpine... Looks freaking cool!!

I'm also upgrading it to the Kenwood 9350BT.
So how much more did u pay for the upgrade? My dealer asked for $400 more. So I told him to refund me and I get my own 9350. As I got it cheaper than them. But waiting for the stock to arrive.
So how's the 9350? Good rite? Able to hv wifi hotspot.
Able to pair 2 phones at 1 time too.

Got it from my PI prime cars. Don't know which workshop he got it from but can find out. After the first batch comes in will be populated slowly in local workshops. But it's expensive I must say. My PI told me the mirroring add on I paid for is wireless

Ok... i guess he must have used some airplay device hidden behind headunit to do that. There is a way to use apple TV and some in other forums were using chromecast.

Did you see the previous YouTube post by mazdaseller? Title reads x009e. I never thought of the model number until you reminded me hehe.
Did a search the price is around there. On the Thailand site it also says the Bluetooth connection module is sold separately. Guess that's for the wireless mirroring.

You should be doing the rear passenger seats solar film instead because the original one from Toyota won't pass the LTA inspection, too dark. At least that's what all PI i visited said.
no. only have the measurement after the installation.

No cost to me coz I asked my PI to absorb. I asked for the K37 vkool. The final readings tally with the K37 specs.

Yes the side panel comes with HU. Just like the original one with touch sensitive button. Difference is that this model use push buttons. This is the nearest we can get since the original one is only in Japanese language.
But lot of things to explore..one thing i cannot take it is, it keep saying "drive carefully", very loud and noisy, i am not sure if its from GPS or from the other source. I tried setting from GPS but still cannot off it, does anyone know how to off this? My HU is pioneer 8650.
I managed to off the eco mode from the steering, is it possible to keep power mode on all the time? The screen are in japanese, do anyone have the translation?
Thanks and Happy driving!

I did consider this model before I install Pioneer 8650BT.

It has all the features, Wifi,GPS..

I only know the answer to 1 of your question. That is the AHB Auto High Beam. When you press it and when you push your lamp lever forward, the AHB will on the high beam automatically when the situations warrant it.

Some of the situations are when street lamp is lowly lit, no vehicles with light in front, travelling speed. The AHB optical sensor is at the centre front of the windscreen infront of the plastic.

If u never press AHB and u push the lamp lever forward, it will straight away high beam.

Aiyoh, why you go hang two hooks there? lol...

The gloss thing, dont worry about it, your leathercare is doing a better job than the one your PI used. Those kind they used are just glossy kind, good leathercare products seldom are glossy ones and most impt provide UV care to prevent cracking long-term. My meguiar's leather care also not glossy, but very good for the leather.

If someone knows a dealer there maybe can ask if it's achievable.

But after comparing the difference I prefer the premium advance package and change the other parts locally (meter, lower coil, brake pads, anti roll bar) as I prefer to get the luxurious ride inside.

I walked around level one of megamart and find hup long price the best. But sad they don't offer premium leather package and wants to coerce me to take the existing stock.
Prime car was not in my shopping list but I saw a lot of harrier inside so went in to take a look. Everything I ask for they can give, price reasonable. Workshop big. Only thing is trade in value low. I decide to buy now because the full leather model need to order and wait a few months.
Actually I was thinking after cny price will drop

Quite close but higher than hup long. I chose prime cars because they can give me whatever I ask for.

I guess hup long bring in lots of harrier as they expect most of the volks auto victims to be shopping around now. that's why offer better prices. they are very aggressive, within one month can collect car, and trade in value higher than others.
This is what the hooks lar. Lol
By the way, anyone tried running the distance to zero? Car really will run out of petrol?
I notice my radio reception alot of static..anyone experience the same?

Quite close but higher than hup long. I chose prime cars because they can give me whatever I ask for.

I guess hup long bring in lots of harrier as they expect most of the volks auto victims to be shopping around now. that's why offer better prices. they are very aggressive, within one month can collect car, and trade in value higher than others.

I bought it at this shop in funan. Can't remember exact location but it is a shop which sell war gaming stuffs...fake m16...outdoor adventure equipment ... the brand is breo.
True. I am enjoying mine now. Done a few things and waiting for my strut bar and under brace. PM me if you want to know more.
LOL there is a side pocket at the center console just next to the gear. You can place you phone there since you have blue tooth connected for hands free.
The hook very intimidating and orbit leh. Haha

For fuel tank it is correct. Not rocket science accuracy but close. 20 km roughly is 10L plus your 48L = 58L ~ 60 L. Maybe I can be your math teacher. LOL.
Edited by sknight, 06 January 2015 - 09:38 AM.
Just use 98. N a use in Japan their Ron is 100. Thus 95 your engine may start Knocking and damage your pistons and cam shafts. Remember the Transformers movie where Megan Fox said "cam shaft" Haha. Maybe just me who gets this perverted joke.

From my past experiences..... even the red light pop up showing out of fuel.... you can still drive 100 km.

But not advisable as bottom of fuel tank usually have residues so might choke the fuel injection.,.......

sg full of petrol kiosk so why worry running out of fuel.....hahaha....

Maybe they want to do dating then park the car with air con and engine running. Haha.
Hi, been following this thread for quite a while coz am interested to go for the Harrier when my current ride COE expires in a few months' time; need some advise for when the time comes.

1) After the recent Volks Auto saga, and hours of combing through car forums, I have narrowed down my choices on a few PIs, but other than price, reputation, available stock, case trust, direct importers etc. what are the other things that constitute a good PI?

2) I've been driving a close-to-10-years-old bnb car and so used to it that most modern features (electric seats, electric tailgate, auto headlights and wipers etc.) are not really important to me (panoramic roof's pretty nice though), I just want a nice looking, good to drive, efficient car so in my case, would the difference between Grand, Elegant and Premium be very drastic? Thanks in advance if you're thinking to send me the specs sheet, but I've already been through them, am asking for individual feel or opinion?

3) This is more of a stupid question, and is more for folks who'd already gotten their Harriers or at least placed deposits. What makes you go for it? What sets this car apart from some of the others like the Mazda CX5 or Hyundai Sante Fe etc? Again, individual feel or opinions as I like to hear other's thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

After driving for 9 months, i can say for certain, when the fuel light comes up, there is at least 10+ litres of fuel left, i even went 80km after light came out, on 19inch rims.. so those on stock can go further. Full tank gives me 620km +/- 5%

For me, i decided to go with the PI that runs their own workshop, install anything or servicing have 6 months warranty and they have extensive experience with toyota vehicles.

Think of it this way, when the time comes for you to sell in the future, you will be competing against premium grade harriers, and definitely your resale value suffers. Other than that, not much difference and like another bro said, the auto tailgate sometime takes too long to open and close.

It's a Toyota..... and a Harrier...

LOL, no lah.. looks so much nicer when compared to the others and it helps that it is economical to run and of course, no money buy new RX or NX....

To all, we only say our own ride is the best. LOL. Even myself will say that my stuff is the best. haha.

Hmmm... The point on PIs who operate their own workshop is sound and valid. I totally wasn't thinking about that, was only considering if the listed workshops are close to work or home.

But wait, if a PI claims they work with "partner workshops", does this count?

Thanks!

I have to agree.

My current ride is a Toyota and besides a couple of punctured tires (let's just say I work on hazardous grounds) and the one time I crashed a few years back, she has never given me any major problems; yes, even AFTER the crash (+ the 10 odd days in the work shop).

B. Motors however, I wouldn't dare to say the same. Yayapapaya since day 0, and got right out once the 3-years' up. Been visiting private workshops since and never looked back, so hopefully I will have a better experience this time dealing with PIs and their workshops. Or am I just being naive and thinking wishful thoughts?

CVT travel up north very safe la. it's not the traditional belt that will break. My colleague drove his axio to KL last year and we went around in his vehicle and back without any incident.

Agree with you. I took my Axio all the way to Penang 2 years back, with wife, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her 75kg husband. Drove around there for 3 days. I got a flat left rear tire along the N-S highway while coming back. Got it changed to a spare tire and drove to the nearest workshop to repair the flat and that's when the machanic found nails in the rest of the other 3 wheels. Got all the tires patched real cheap...think was something like $10 ringgit per wheel.

Basically I would be able to drive all the way back with the nails in the tires, if not for the 75kg brother-in-law who seats just above the left rear wheel that caused the tire to go flat.

So, other then the tire incident, there is no other issues. And I'm still driving the same Axio with 3 more years left in the COE. Next ride looking at the Harrier.

 Hi all,

Toyota are reliable and cheap to maintain.... tats why from all years of driving continental, i switch to the 1st generation Harrier. Now still with my 2nd generation Harrier and await my 3rd generation Harrier to be delivered to me in Feb.

Driven company's Toyota Altis for 9 years to KL office.... and covered so much mileage too with a colleague when in KL.....no worries no break downs....Except caught for speeding.......hahaha....RM50 settles it all........lol

Any one wanna book ready stocks... i can intro my dealer's salesman Jecky , 9107-0630 . Very helpful young guy and he goes all the way to help bidding for numbers/ COE / upgrade of HU .....etc.... Give him a call, he told me he have 10 over Harriers available now. Ranging from Grand to Premium. Tell him Ben intro you. He sure to give you a good price. If you wan the pre-crush, he can arrange too. But need to indent....

Harrier never wrong !..... Most spacious and nicest SUV beside the Higher end Continental SUV which are all $3xx k

All the owners here at this forum will tell you that they are happy with their Harriers..... so GO FOR IT !

Points on Cruise Control and Lane Departure are taken, thanks. Used to do the NSHW a lot when I was a younger man, Got too tired on my way back once so I pulled over, on my hazard lights and took a nap with my engine and a/c on and windows and doors tightly shut. Was awaken suddenly by strange noises and opened my eyes to see 2 guys seemingly trying to open my window (was too dark to see clearly). Whispered to my girlfriend (of that time) to hold on, quietly put to "Drive" and sped off.

The two guys didn't give up, they went back and gave chase in their car and I was driving so fast that I could feel my car "floating", and "drifting away" even on the slightest bends. I must have hit 130 or 140 at some point, luckily my engine didn't give in. Fortunately they gave up after a while but I never stopped and drove all the way back.

Wow.... that's scary! another reminder for all of us, to stay vigilant all the time! Count yourself lucky to escape an obvious robbing attempt.

About the doors tightly shut, it is a good idea to have the doors automatically locked once you start to drive off, and the doors can only be unlocked manually by the driver. I have my car doors' locks altered to behave this way. Why I did it is because I have heard stories of drivers getting robbed while stopping at traffic lights. Robbers can come by and open your doors to take away anything, eg laptops, bags, handbags, etc. There is nothing you can do once the robbers speed off in a motorcycle, while you are stuck at the traffic light.

Come to think of it, I have seen on a TV program. Can't recall which Starhub channel. The owner of a car had all kind of defensive machanism build into his car including bulletproof windows, doors, grease ejection from the back, huge sharp spikes, etc.

He also has pepper sprays installed around the car. This can be a good way to ward off robbery attempts. Wonder if it's legal to do that in this little red dot. Drive up to boleh land, stopped at traffic light, robber on motorcycle attempt to pry open your windows/doors. You give warnings. If robber still do not heed the warnings, spray him with pepper.

the key difference is, mine is a police baton and yours is a baseball bat, though yours is more destructive. these ppl follow SOP like zombies. a police baton is in a different classification as compared to a baseball bat. zombies cannot differentiate hahaha

Haha.....then keep a steering wheel lock that ppl uses as protection instead of locking the steering wheel....

Police baton not useful to them too..... saw that Mercedes that crashed thru the sg customs quite some time back?

They only use the retractable baton to wave

Wow, a very good, strong and convincing post.

But what about spares and replacement parts?

Say, if I (touch wood) get into an accident and need to replace everything before the engine or everything behind the back seats, would replacement parts be easily and readily available, or would I have to leave my car in the workshop for weeks waiting for parts to be shipped in from overseas?
Managed to solve your roof? Can share what was the reason and how it was resolved?
Hi .
Yap, finally it solved.

There is few of us(Under the same agent 0 complaint to the agent, one of us actually leave the car for 10 days to let the mechanic troubleshoot for 10 day, eventually , they found the cause..

I didnt see how they resolve, spoke to the mechanic (Boss), they need to open the roof(not the glass), adjust the roller, is the roller that cause the " knocking " sound when travel on the uneven road.
I sent my car twice ..finally get it done..

He already fix quite a number of this harrier issue..

Is a whole day event..

bro benchoo, can explain what do you mean by pre-crush? whats the pros and cons

I think you can get the idea from this youtube video. I can't translate for you, but my take away is, if there is car in front of you stopping suddenly and you are at risk of colliding, it will show the alert on the dashboard to get you to brake it. Some intelligent could apply to the brake so you brake faster, with shorter braking distance as a result.

Ultimately, still need you to be alert while driving, but help reduce the possibility of collision.
Praise you. Clap Hand. Haha. Cannot give you at this time as need to praise another 18 before can go back to you.

No worry bro.... me too newbie.... so need more harriers to gv praise to upgrade me lor.....

Any praises? Hahaha....... will post more info when home. As left them at home...

Cheers

I have been driving a Mark X for 8 years no problem with spares. Benchoo69 so many Harrier no problem too. This should not be your concern. PI workshops now very high tech and closely connected with stockist every where.

Our ride is not for tailgating. It is for showing class and great taste. LOL

Certain station nia.... like class 95... alot of static... 92.4 is quite ok though.
Thanks Benchoo for the great information.

May i check, there is this button beside the auto tailgate, which when depress suppose to detect if a car is too close to us. Do all of you have it? Is it the same as pre crashing system? I dare not try... later really crash. lol
Harrier is Awesome!
I am using Pioneer and have no issue with radio reception leh. Maybe my ear has plenty of wax. Haha.
Then i shall go to the workshop and troubleshoot

Just completed first full tank. Fc is abt 13.1km/l. Travelled 618km on 47l of fuel. Even the fc shown on the dash is also 13.3km/l ... quite close.
Harrier is Awesome!
Good FC for a heavy car.
Does harrier have reserve tank?

Nothing can be more reassuring from someone who drove 2 prev generation of harriers... thx for the post..
 Hi all,

Like that can't tailgate people Liao ah.
Bro
It's to prevent tailgate lah...owners who allow their wives to drive. And their judgement are bad... so having the pre crush is to prevent from hitting the front car and ending up we need to pay more for insurance premiums.
Safety is always better than regretting later...
That is the good point.... the bad is if the precrush is damaged, it will cost you a bomb to replace as was told you can't just replace tat small box in the front grille...you need to replace a full set wif wiring... and it's gonna cost you a minimum of 3k. Ut then again.... it's insured...haha
BTW, any owners bought full total loss for 1st year??
Was told by my insurance agent that there is new policy n it covers the first year only.
I heard Mercedes S class hv the same device. And it cost 7k to replace....
Thing is it can only warm not cool. Was thinking whether can modify this to cool instead.
Which button is the seat warmer?
There's a seat warmer that I noticed no one is talking about. I tested this feature sometime back when I started searching for cars. Any owners know about this feature?

Think I tried this feature at Volkswagen auto before they run away with the money. Maybe not all models have it. Or only the earlier ones have it.

This is a very individual answer if you know what I mean. It is good pair of stock speakers but since you ask th question means you are into ICE. Thus need to CHANGE and add Amp and. Haha some have done it

As of now here in the threads, we only know there are two modes.. if u on the console one, pickup is very very slow. Dash one still can drive normally. If switch both off... then pickup is good.
Mine also 2650. Thanks for the info, will be going workshop. Did u get the appradio to work? Supposingly can display our phone's map on the screen
Hi SK Night,Did the fire wall and floor today. Left out the boot and doors. Slowly do to know the difference, as some of our Bros recommendation is correct on not trying to make it dead quite.
With the chassis and fire wall, sound was reduced further and floor vibration over rough road like some section of PIE was reduced drastically.
Even installer said it is now very quite and great improvement. No need to do door unless I start going into ICE.
They were very helpful as they solved my GPS and Head Unit buzzing sound. They went through proper channel by contacting the GPS vendor and troubleshooting it at NO extra cost.
Please note that original car is already quite, I am just itchy and now have a contented heart. Haha.
Thanks for all your feedback, helps us understand our car better:)
Hope to get some advice from you. I've got the exact same config as you,88650 and Galactico GPS and experiencing the same buzzing sound. Can elaborate more on how your installer manage to resolve this problem? Thanks!
No problem sharing over the tarek and prata. LOL.Hi SK Night,

There is a special alternate cable to use where the volume control is then controlled from 8650. This work was trouble shoot by my ICE shop but I believe soon this cable will be standard for 8650. Only catch is when the GPS sexy lady speaks it will not must the radio. Personally I prefer this way as I only need some guide when in Jaron and also do not like the radio to silent and a lady speak to me. Very scary on the night. Haha
If you doing ICE the shop I go too can help. Else do speak with your PI.
Looks like I am always the piggy here. Haha. Soon I will be the first again with Strut bars, under brace and BBK.
Damn the auto correct on my Samsung phone. So many typo error!!!

Needless to say is noise reduction but helps on vibration of chassis. Driving over rough roads and bumps gives the car a more solid thump sound and not vibration. If you know what I mean.
Wheel arch is also very important.
My wife feels the difference thus it speakers column when wife feels it. Haha.
I am using StP boom which is the top model insulation. Used other country products before on different ride did not feel improvement as obvious as StP.
PM me if you keen. Cannot advertise here. LOL

Any bros changing the rim and would like to sell the 18" tyre to others as spare tyre?
Any bros changing the rim and would like to sell the 18" tyre to others as spare tyre?

Just checked a PI showroom Harrier today with factory spare tyre - it has extra bracket welded to base to secure the spare tyre (thin half size one) and also extra plastic bracket above the tyre.

I would not recommend you put in just any wheel into the standard empty cavity (for non-spare tyre Harriers) as it looks like it will shift around without securing.

Agree. That is why the spare tyre cost is rather high at around 800 for the tyre, rim, bracket and different compartment.

this is interesting. the aircon already has nano technology by panasonic, means we do not need to purchase air purifier.

Know why taxi drivers put a wet cloth on their dashboard? cos aircon very dry will make driver sleepy over long period when water is taken from our body.

does any driver feel less tired after driving this car?

wow... good deal. where is this shop?
Is this a standard suspension for all model option?

The Harrier's suspension is enhanced through the use of Frequency Adaptive Damping (FAD) shock absorbers which control the degree of vehicle roll and pitch, automatically adjusting shock absorber damping characteristics to compensate for vehicle posture changes.

if so then cannot lower or change suspension. haha

i read from forums most hard about ICE is cannot demo.
can only go by trusted recommendation.

today i went also they never offer to demo.

they only purely suggest base on budget i guess...
thats why i could only come here and ask if anyone have it installed ....

Can demo one, they just lazy.. i asked them to hook up and let me test, they brought it out and hook it.. not that difficult. If budget permits, get the Rainbow iPaul amp.. better internals, cleaner output.

Praise you. Clap Hand. Haha. Cannot give you at this time as need to praise another 18 before can go back to you.
Just had my aircon cooling coil changed.... local workshop which is my company "contracted" mechanic quoted me $480 for replacement.
I went to Race course Road n bought my own cooling coil at $140.00 for my 2nd generation Harrier. And got it fitted at jb workshop.... less than half a day which the local workshop told me. And labour cost is only RM 160.
End up half the price...
All these years of driving... I always buy my own parts n get it changed by local mechanic... and always cheaper.
After the 3 years warranty... I will go back to my own honest always busy mechanic... experienced & cheap.
Friendly n never stuck up or slaughter you.
Toyota parts are easily available at all spare parts dealers.
I have been driving a Mark X for 8 years no problem with spares. Benchoo69 so many Harrier no problem too. This should not be your concern. PI workshops now very high tech and closely connected with stockist every where.
Great. It is a common issue with our glass roof. I sending mine next week and they too said a full day event. Hope the fix is a permanent solution.
Agree. That is why the spare tyre cost is rather high at around 800 for the tyre, rim, bracket and different compartment.
Touch wood I've never had a puncture tyre, only nails and there will still be air to drive to tyre shop to fix. Right in front of my house there's a tyre shop hehe.
I'm curious what type of incident will leave you with a puncture tyre. Singapore roads don't seem to have the type of condition which will cause tyre puncture. Anyone has experience?

Bro your honest mechanic is which workshop? My colleague keep recommending me jb workshop. We always compare price and jb always half cheaper.
Recently went overseas for 3 days came back battery died. Less than a year old so send for warranty. My colleague battery change in jb half price went overseas for 2 weeks and car can start. His batt is more than 2 years old.
I'm seriously considering servicing in jb after warranty. Local workshop a lot of them either out to chop or skills simply not as good. Sometime back my car leaking oil and workshop simply refuse to quote until they fix it. Change a few gasket pay $400++. They lucky I'm always busy. Else I will have driven off to jb.
I had a burst tyre years ago, left me stranded on TPE. The side wall was burst, not cause by simple nail. I had a spare tyre, but the problem was the nut was too tight and I was not able to loosen it, even when my 100kg friend try to airborne and step on it. To make the problem worst, it was a Sunday afternoon, workshop I contacted are not working and not willing to attend to me at site. At the end I waited for a friend's father to be back from JB and helped me.Touch wood I've never had a puncture tyre, only nails and there will still be air to drive to tyre shop to fix. Turned out that he just brought with him a steel tube to extend the length of the wrentch, and loosen the nut with much ease. with his help I wss oblige to change the tyre in his workshop, but that gave me another nightmare. Nobody would expect being treated "unprofessionally" by a friend's father - I stop short of using the word "con". But that's another story, if u guys are interested.
Another incident lately, my tyre met with a humongous nail, I must have gotten it while driving to the Carpark with construction going on nearby, didn't notice it until some good fellow alerted me along highway. The tyre was also beyond repair. In such circumstances a repair kit wouldnt help. Luckily I was not far away from a workshop so I drove there directly to get a new tyre.
So, lesson learn, don't assume your tyre will just meet with small nail. Don't assume help is always there (unless you have AA membership). Get ready a steel tube as the wrentch extension (I haven't found one yet though).

That is good reason why if I get the Harrier, I hope to get it with spare tyre (have changed tyres myself before), but PIs don't allow or claim no way to order. One sales shared that actually they also don't know which units in each batch will suddenly pop up with spare tyre. Some units comes with it, most don't.

Yup, I feel more assure with the spare tyre when i drive to Malaysia, the tyre repair kit will be v messy after used. My Harrier come with the spare tyre and repair kit, didnt know the spare tyre cost so much.

Hi bro,

My mechanic is at behind Bedok fire station. If you wan, you can try him. But warn you first, he is very busy and always full of cars.

Better to make appointment first. He allows me to buy my own parts there too as he always says my part prices are always better than him.....( its becoz i dealt wif modification of cars b4 so many spare parts i got them at dealer's price.) hahaha....

Jb sure cheaper as the labour cost is in Ringgit.... but then again.....bear the jam lor......hahaha

Ohhhhh..... just added another car owner to my jams in jb......hahaha

Hi Bro,

Battery depends soley on luck.. my battery had b4 which die on me on the last day of the warranty too. Or lasting me for more than 2 years and still working well...

Use to buy all those "branded" batteries but seems like same thing....last 1 year and dead ! So nowadays i buy cheap batteries, Korean made. Same thing last me a year or so . Better than paying double and still 1 year usage....

As batteries these days are not like b4.... these days batteries only last you thru the 1 year warranty and "kapooh" hahaha...

shouldn't be the case leh. my first battery lasted almost 3 years until workshop say need to change. I haven't felt anything yet but since it's almost 3 years i agree to change (shouldn't have done so, stock battery supposed to last more than that). 2nd batt (johnson controls) lasted slightly above 2 years, not so bad. 3rd batt (amaron) lasted 1 year plus, now on my 4th (also amaron) less than 1 year i RMA already.

compared to my colleague who drove for many years, every batt he change in JB all lasted nearly 3 years. so is batt quality becoming poorer or we are getting low quality batt for higher price? I'm into RC flying and i know about batteries quite well. a standard lead acid batt should last well over 2 years, good ones above 5 years but very expensive that's why we mostly get standard batteries. but now the what i'm getting is simply sub standard low grade lead acid.

now back to the harrier batt. in order for battery to function effectively the harrier should be using AGM lead acid batt if i'm correct. AGM batt charge 5x faster than the normal lead acid, this is to counter the battery strain for start-stop feature. i read somewhere the harrier stock battery comes with 3 year warranty. so when changing battery take note to only get AGM battery if using start-stop feature, and if workshop tell u to change within 3 years we should not be paying for the change, but parallel import cars warranty im not sure...

with these factors considered, shouldn't it be better to just change the batt in JB at least, if not normal servicing. that's what i've been thinking. danger of using low quality battery is the other electronic components on the car can be compromised. JB alot of harrier, i think finding a good workshop shouldn't be a big issue. Just need experienced bros here to recommend.

My Mechanic came down and changed for me in Taka and charge me half price. Haha. Good service right. Then again maybe it is only for me haha.

Thanks bro for the info. My Korean Battery now cost S$120.00 bigger ampere...as used to use Varta , another german brand starting wif "H" .... didnt use them a long time.

Stock batteries , tires, brakes, coolants etc usually lasted longer....

I dunno about Mark X, as my brother's Mark X battery is only good for 6 months... most battery shop do not wanna give warranty of 1 year.....he drove it for 5 years and now he is into Volvo S80 D2.
My Amaron in the X lasted be around 26 months which is good enough.
Is there any tool we can check the battery life? I too was stunned by sudden death of the car battery last time on my civic.

I also realise alot of drivers get caught against the usual driving routine with battery suddenly went dead.

So any thing we can do to pre-empt a battery which is going dead?
Any recommended AGM battery for our harrier?

Any recommended stockist for our harrier.
I have been using min ghee for my previous rides but I am open to new recommendations

think it was discussed earlier can use volt meter to test stress, if it drop below 11.5v under stress means battery dying.

for me i go by feel. when starting car can feel that the crank is like out of breath, lights dimming, means battery dying soon need to go check.

Yessssss.... go down to the battery shop. They have a tool to show you the readings of your battery.... how many % good. Or need to be replaced.
Wow 6 months something is wrong with the car. Maybe his ICE super power and he never up size his battery. Haha.

Bro, he went to few battery shop.... and they said all Mark X is like that.... for all Mark X they wont give 1 year warranty...

does it come with thief sensor? if yes, just unwind any window with the system armed. the transponder away from the car like 1 meter away. get another person to stick his hand through the open window. this will immediately trigger the alarm. The Lexus works this way so i would think is the same.

Maybe i should used my ex stock Porsche voltmeter gauge on my new Harrier......

At least can read. Been telling myself to go dig it out from my warehouse and get it fitted many years.....hahaha but never get to do so as lazy... the other thing is i do not wanna cut any hole or drill any holes to get it fitted in my Harrier.

Lets see how i can do it...

Happened to me twice. The first time totally no idea what happened, was driving off from my car park early in the morning when I realized something not right, went down to see tyre already flat.

The second time was not as lucky. This time it was a screw and it must have went in earlier and by the time I felt it I was on the PIE. Exited as soon as I could, drove into a nearby car park and found half a screw embedded into my tyre and pressed side-way resulting in an enlarged puncture.

And others are right to say that changing tyres is not an easy feat. I was lucky in the sense that I went through both my experiences in car parks, cannot imagine if I had to do it by the road side, or worst, NSHW. The first time was worst. Took me more than 15 minutes just to figure out where to place the jack, and another hour to jack the car up, unscrew and remove the flat, and install and tighten the spare. By the time I was done I had to go back home, take shower and change before i leave for the office.

Second time was easier (but not much) now that I have prior experience, still took me a while and some effort, so much so that I just decided to give myself the rest of the day off and went home after stopping at the workshop to get the tyre fixed.

Yeah, experienced changing tyre at NSHW before. It can be dangerous with cars going at 110km/hr, and some even above that. Not forgetting some trucks and buses also run at above 100km/hr. You can feel the "wind" trying to drag you.

Oh, and when you are changing your tyres (be it on highways/country roads) remember to put the reflective triangular vehicle breakdown sign at a distance of 30m to 60m from the car. This would give enough warning to other road users and reduce the potential danger.

During each service they should be able to check. The Ampere is around 30% lower than rated means the barriers is going to the sky!!! Which means even with full duration charge the battery cannot reach optimum level. They have the battery checker on voltage or ampere. You can use a multimeter and check too after a day drive.
Another way to spot a failing battery is when your engine startup crank is not normal or when your lights flicker. Of cause these may also be due to other mechanical factors but one point where you may want to take note.
Hope this helps.
Geneviean you can try He Xing along Dunlop street.

Bro... wif a grille n rims changed n ppl recognise your ride.... haha... my current ride is worst.... number also obvious.... haha
Haha... so true. Maybe I should de-kit? LOL

maybe I should start a bidding for spare tyre!!! will not sell the spare tyre as it is good to have the weight at the back so the rear tyres are more grounded and the suspension is not fully extended.
For those who is thinking of lowering your ride, check this springs from RSR. I used it for me previous ride and gave good results.

sacrifice abit of comfort but still comfortable, with better road holding and cornering and braking.... yes braking cause your car do not dip so much and of course makes your car cooler than others...

bro your car comes with spare tyre? My PI told me he sold 60++ harrier and none comes with spare tyre. the option list also does not have spare tyre to select from. I then learn from my colleague a spare tyre cost around $100-$300 at most, the real spare tyre for temporary use not the actual tyre.

but i clearly remember seeing spare tyre at some of the showroom before. so I'm really not sure now. anyone can confirm?

There is spare tyre and it comes from Japan. My PI has sold some with spare tyre and there is an option but have to confirm before deal to indent as it is factory included similar to other option stuffs.... tyre is cheap and it is the actual type, my original rims were 18" and the spare is 18" too.

The cost is higher as they need special fixture and the boot compartment under the boot platform is different from those without spare tyre.

Maybe your PI stocks comes from another source.

No need to worry mate, no spare tyre no spare tyre lor!!! Not a life or death matter. hee hee.

May I know is there any hill start function and digital Speedo meter in premium?
Hill start yes. Digital speedo don't think so. Anyway why digital speedo? See the speed on the gps vs speedo. Notice any difference? If u get what I mean
Maybe because GPS speedometer won't work in MCE or KPE? Hehe
Actually what I mean is the speedo is inaccurate
You can go to workshop like Nightz or any other workshop to install a windscreen reflective speedo meter. Like in Mission Impossible
You sound like a rocket scientist. LOL
KPE I placed cruise on 80 kmh no issue. So far very compliant. Just curious, what is your reason for such accuracy?

Like when I drive up a car park slope and release the accelerator and the car slows down it will come to a point where is stops and rolls back slowly.
But when I on a full stop on a slope and release accelerator it does not roll back or rolls back just slightly.
Anyone want to share their experience ?
This forum is nice to gather people but I think after sometime people may login less frequently. I am thinking of starting a Harrier Owner Support mailing list, to pull all the brothers here together here.
Advantages of such mailing list:
1. Able to reach out mother harrier owner even after 2-3 years when this thread sink , or when the brothers here login less frequent (I am sure I will guilty of that)
2. Get more prompt response for question and answer and sharing (think about common problem like sunroof rattling sound)
3. Easier to organize bulk purchase
4. Easier to organize meetup and sharing session - lots of feature are not easily understood while manual is in Japanese
What do you guys think? I think need to have minimal 15 or above people to make this useful.
Please feedback.

I had ordered a speedo meter name Navdy from USA. Hope it's not a scam.

Big company I'm not surprised. Average is 5 a month. Not a lot la.
A mailing list that constantly arrives in peoeple's inbox will be more of a pain, bro... unless you meant something more than that.
Since Harrier is an imported car and a lot of time rely on the workshop's competency to solve the problem, I think a community support group is quite essential.

Mailing is not for general discussion but for support purpose, reaching out the other owner more directly, especially years down the road. Like I said we don't have authoritative source here since the car is direct import, down the road we may face tricky maintenance issue which such mailing list can be of help to the owners.
I am an office worker and has no interest to use this list for some other purpose. I am just concerning of the support problem down the road and hopefully I have some brothers to fall back to.

Leelk a facebook group would do us good... and serves its purpose.. will definitely sign up for that..

Just want to share something regarding some functions

1) Hill start assist - At shopping centers, when going up a slope and need to insert cash card, i stopped the car, still holding onto the brake, settled the cash card, barrier up, removed brake, car remains stationary till the accelerator is depressed. So i guess on a slope, once car stopped completely, you can remove foot from brake and it will stay stationary.

2) Emergency brake lights - When travelling at a speed (forgot exact speed), suddenly jam the brakes, your hazard light will come on automatically to warn others

3) Traction control - At one time just right after changing to new tyres, was travelling on expressway in very heavy rain and went right through a big body of water, car was aqua planing somewhat as couldn't steer nor brake. Car started buzzing/beeping and braking itself and in under 1s, control came back and the buzzing/beeping stopped.

For bros considering getting SUV, pls take note of models whereby the tailgate opens sideways instead of opening upwards. The old Rav4 opens sideways as does the toyota rush.. might be impractical if you park in multi-storey car parks and used to reverse parking.
Thanks for sharing.

How long does it take to do the whole car?
Can demo one, they just lazy.. i asked them to hook up and let me test, they brought it out and hook it.. not that difficult. If budget permits, get the Rainbow iPaul amp.. better internals, cleaner output.

I heard a pioneer 2650 with fosgate amp, subwoofer and 4 speakers at Autobacs Bukit Batok and it sounded good.

Subwoofer is not very big and movable. No problem to put in our Harrier boot.

Total cost without head unit about 2K including installation charges.
Any bro can comment if this is reasonable or shall I also consider the Rainbow package?

Arrghh.. my eyes hurt......haha...

One qn I have in mind. Does the electric tailgate stop upon detecting obstruction. This seems to be a standard feature in many brands but cannot find this info on harrier
yes the electric tailgate will stop when detected obstruction.

On top of that, they have the pinch sensors on both sides of the tailgate. Try closing the tailgate and then squeeze the rubber on either left or right, it will also stop the close operation.

1 question:
when reverse parking into a lowly lit area, do u have difficulty seeing the parking demarcation line? Anyone here replace your reverse lamps with brighter lamps? Is this illegal?
Edited by Geneviean, 11 January 2015 - 01:13 AM.
I just got my car yesterday!!!
:)
So much problems and doubts that I have ...
Example when in Eco mode, after the engine stops and starts at traffic junction, a loud "knocking" sound can be heard from the engine area... I dunno if it's "common"?
:(
If there's a community or meet ups session, I could definetly show the symptom and check against other brothers here ~
:)
I really hope a group or some community can be set up...

Definitely not common, when start after stopping, the sound is very faint and no knocking sound.. as a measurement, wont be louder than when you start your car for sure.

Mine also no knocking sound. Mine barely audible just feel the enginer coming back to live. But nowadays it is my SOP to turn the smart stop off. Logically speaking lesser disturb the engine start stop shud be better in terms of wear and tear
Fantastic. You really tried a e brake!!! Amazing.
Thanks for sharing.
Wow!!! Swee!!! This is with ceramic?

I find the reverse camera useful in looking out for demarkation of parking lot. Occassionally i did the old school head popping out with open door style to reverse park.
If u r going to be in the car with engine off and door open, the buzzer to remind door is opened may be irritating. So with the door opened. Just press the black rubber at the door.
Very nice.
I am thinking of doing that as well

I heard a pioneer 2650 with fosgate amp, subwoofer and 4 speakers at Autobacs Bukit Batok and it sounded good.

Subwoofer is not very big and movable. No problem to put in our Harrier boot.

This is not a common issue. Do check with the workshop.
Meet up will be good to have. Some of us have been talking but most waiting for their car end the month before the meet up.
Here is the picture of the USB port in the center console.

bro, I also want to get this installed. I find it useless if the USB cable is wired and left at the glove compartment (which most did), practically cannot use it to connect the phone.
Did you buy the dash mount from this link you posted? Is the default cable long enough? Did your workshop/PI also extend out the HDMI for you?

Just got my white harrier. PI installed Pioneer 2650BT
I am using Iphone 6 and bluetooth works with phone and music

Tried to use AppRadio but it does not show the apps in the Pioneer. There is no cable to connect the iphone. Is the lightning cable necessary in order to work or can we just use bluetooth?

Any bro out there using 8650BT which is the top model. Is it worth upgrading from 2650?
I believe you need to connect the iphone to the 2650 using the lightning cable. The 2650 come with a USB cable, suppose to allow it to be extended out and let you use the USB port. Most installer left the cable in the glove compartment. Maybe they didn't extend it out for you?

So far 3-4 brothers support the idea of setting up a Facebook group. lets see if there is more feedback before I publish the link to the Facebook group I have just created. That communication channel is more for long term use, for now I suggest we still use this thread regularly, because many new owners are coming in here.

There's a slot to put usb in the center console just beside the 12v outlet. I asked my PI he blur blur say dunno, say usually will be in the glove compartment. I also find it pointless to put in the glove compartment. Then again need the installer to know how to put there else pointless.

Default cable is only 80cm so not long enough. Need another 30cm to reach HU.
I connect to the usb port of my pioneer 2650 which dun have hdmi port. Its not difficult to install when I watched the installer removing the HU and gear panels.

Cs2 I used before on my Fit and it's good for a year...then but need to do maintaince again that is chargeble which I skipped.
Alas...static drastically reduced to almost zero.
By the way he told me the fin on our harrier is pai swee... the radio antenna is on rear windscreen together with thermal wires or whatever u call it.
Indeed there was a problem with my radio reception on my pioneer 2650. When set to auto tune by holding down the tune button..it doesn't lock in to common radio stations. After technician re soldered a new connector (i guess better grounding), it can lock in to most stations via auto tune.
Alas...static drastically reduced to almost zero.

Dear Honorable Toyota Harrier owners,
You are cordially invited to join the SG Harrier Owner Support Group: https://www.facebook...ups/SG.Harrier/
I have not own a Harrier yet but intend to get one by Mar. Can I join?
A Facebook Harrier interest group may be ideal for sharing info and connecting with other owners.
****************************************************************
Since Harrier is an imported car and a lot of time rely on the workshop's competency to solve the problem, I think a community support group is quite essential.

Get one dash mount adaptor like this and get the workshop to install for you
Http://m.ebay.com.sg/itm/121475411148?_mwBanner=1
But the cable is not long enough to reach the centre console, need another 30cm extension.
Or use the USB cable that come with the package (if your PI passed you the original box) or get one from Sim Lim square, then ask the workshop to install it and terminate it to the front side pocket.

My paint protection by r69 ultimate detailing
I am just back from pika rain coating.
Heavy downpour on way back
Wipe dry.
Now the car looks exactly the same as b4 I went.
Finally my breakin is over ... i decided to declare it is over after hitting 933km... i guess 63km more doesn't make a diff... so off i drive my usual way... cheonging the 1st lane! During break-in i obediently stick to lane 2 on expressway to sayang the engine... now is time for it to work hard. haha

My FR:
Not sluggish at all even when i use the econ mode on the dashboard. Responsive and kept up the pace on 1st lane. Last time what i fear about sluggishness for this big car is unfounded. Looks like Japanese still better. I wanted to try with the econ mode off. But i think that won't be neccessary since i am happy with the performance, perhaps one day when i have the need for speed then i cheong with power mode and both econ mode off. haha

Yesterday i completed 1 of the most important sortie this car has clocked thus far - cheonging to A&E for my kid's chest infection. Car is nimble as i switch lane and accelerate and slowed down and accelerate again...like ER. The harrier took it very well. The quiet cabin is a deadly disguise for the speed i was driving... and each breathless cough by my kid prompt me to hurry safely.

So this post should give potential buyer some confident in the car's performance.
I am mostly on ECO mode too, and uses M mode during the occasional speed boost. Of coz M mode performance is nothing compared to Power mode but u can engage M mode without taking your eyes off the road, which can be necessary at times.

Dear bros, my car is reaching 10 years soon, so I started to hunt for my next ride last week. I happened to know Harrier last Friday from my colleague, and was immediately attacked by its elegant interior and exterior design. After researched for 2 days, read a lot about Harrier, went through all the posts in this thread and visited 4 PIs yesterday in Ubi, I like this car a lot and quite sure this will be my next car. However, before I pull the trigger, I prefer to have all the details fixed. So need some helps from bros here on below queries:

1. Any recommendations on the PI? I visited Cartimes, Leco Automobile, Prime Cars and Hup Long yesteray, the packages are all different. Hup Long offer the cheapest package but trade in value is low, and I'm more concerned on whether this PI is reliable with good after sale services. Prime Cars' offer is decent, but their harrier comes with no sunroof for Elegance. Cartimes' package is most expensive. Leco gives me good impression, the package is not the cheapest but the salesman does not bluff. There are so many PIs, other than these 4, can bros recommend a few more for me to visit next week? Anyone know what is the package from Richburg? I heard they are reputational but price is steep. Is it true?

2. Any bro bought brass red mica color? I saw one in Hup Long, it looks great with the matchingBordeauxinterior color. But seems no one in this thread bought red color, and not many dealers import red as well, they told me not many customers like red color. However, all my friends like red one on the first spot, after we viewed pearl white and pearl black.

3. The standard HU offered by PI is usually Pioneer 2650, however, this HU is too small to fit in the slot completely like original HU, there is a gap on both side. I'm wondering whether Pioneer 8650 can fit in nicely like original HU, with no gaps on the sides? Any bro with 8650 mind to confirm that? Bro benChoo69, mind to share how much you have to topup to keep original HU? And other than GPS not working, what are the disadvanteges of keeping original HU?

4. What are the recommended films? I was offered Cool n lite by Prime Cars but this brand is new to me, anyone can commend whether Cool n lite film is good?

5. For the sunroof, worth to get? Will it leak after a few years? my company got no sheltered parking, will the sealing rubber ages under the sun day after day?

Sorry for so many questions, thanks for the helps in advance! :)
Hope your child is well, bro.

Thanks Lee

I use the M mode when I want to have a quicker corner without breaking to much. Like exiting from expressway I will drop to 5 then to 4 and cornering is confident at 90 kmh. Haha.
I have tried the power mode for a short while and the rev just climbs and climbs with the CVT keeping the gear box engaged without any slip. Great improve my on the Super CVT.

Likewise. Hope all is fine.

1. go for the PI you are most comfortable with. you've visited all the PI who has been around for many years. Some look at their servicing workshop, some just look at lowest price, it's really an individual's choice.
2. color is individual's preference.
3. there's an alpine HU x009e that is almost the same as the original but localized, at $3k. it has been discussed before. if it's too expensive then talk to the PI for the next best choice.
4. every PI will recommend their own brand they make the profit from. i paid extra $800 for cool n lite titan version. but i can also go source for my own like 3M at a little more which i did not. or you can try not doing anything. all PIs say the japan original film will not pass inspection, but how did it manage to get through the first inspection when importing? it's a risk you will know 3 years later.
5. almost all my agent and friends say the rubber will harden and leak around 5 years, cost to repair is a few thousand. the panaromic type that cannot be opened doesn't leak. maybe other bros here will have more experience.

Change the rubber nia so expensive. 4 16" tyres cost lesser and it is more rubber. My friend's old oddessy coming to 9 yrs still no leak from roof leh.
Any other bros got experience with leaking roof?

I believe sun plays a big factor - if your car is mostly in sheltered car parks then all the rubber seals should last longer.

Bro, thanks for the reply. I knew Alpine and watched youtube video too, but 3k is too costly. thats why i'm interested to know how much to keep original HU. While upgrade to Pioneer 8650 only cost $400 more, but i dont know how it looks like. Bros who upgrade to 8650 mind to share a picture here? Many thanks! :)
I got my Red Mica Harrier from Hup Long last week. Very good service. Got COE last Wed, delivered car last friday.
Any bro here using Pioneer ICE has bluetooth connect issue with the steering wheel control? I was told by PI that Pioneer set not compatbile for Harrier if we want to use bluetooth on steering wheel. Thus recommend to change to Kenwood.

Hi Eric,

Mine is red, and l like this color..hehe (tired of black and white so decided to go for something different).

I bought from Leco, they are okay, but do negotiate for a better HU, they installed for me 1650, the very basic model, i topped up $870 to upgrade to 8650 with gps.

Harrier, good choice..cheers!

same reason I chose red over white or black too. my interior leather is maroon match the exterior. No regret.

Ya lor, match color looks so cool.... in fact when I first time watch youtube on the interior red color, I'm wondering how it looks with red exterior. So I ask for red color in the first two showroom but they don't carry. My friends all told me forget red, white looks much better, but then when they saw the red one in Hup Long (the interior happened to be red as well), all of them like it immediately..... lol...

Bro i feel you. you could have sold all 4 tyres as spare for $500 each and collected back $2k, but kena con by them this way, i'm surprised autobacs do business this way as i buy lots of accessories from them. I've never serviced my vehicle there and never will now that i learn about this.

guess the only time i will go back is to change the wiper rubber... they cut to length for me at no extra charge.

wiper rubber can be cut to length? 1st time i heard of it. not sure which brand you use. But using the toyota originals, they come in a different sizes. it is important to get the correct length and not cut as the ends are molded to prevent the metal strips from sliding out. I DIY change the rubber myself, so i know what i'm talking about

BTW, how come there are 5 posts per day restriction here?
You mean your 8650 cannot be controlled via the steering wheel? I thought that is a standard installation.
I am same as Arte, 2650 and control via steering wheel.

Yup. Not possible as my PI nominated ICE shop said they need a blue tooth module but that would over heat the HU. Hmm. But for 2650 is possible or even the new 8750 which is not launch yet can be done. Weird but that is the advice.

have checked with AL tyres, and i think our toyota rims are not worth much... its the tyre that are worth some... maybe $200 - $250 per tyre...

YHI suggested that i drive the stock tyres first, since the trade in value does not differ by too much... but i guess when u wanna change your shoes, its not really about the trade in value?

but at least now all harry owners will siam autobacs for tyre changing
Should be Bridgestone mah, standard from Toyota!

lesson learnt for the bros here.... check your tyre manufacturer! seems like different cars have different tyres....

though not sure what is the price difference between dunlop/yokohama/bridgestone..... if you intend to trade in your tyres... could be worthwhile to do some research

Correct and the weird part is the workshop said there is a chance of HU over heating!!! Not sure how true this is.

1)Controls on the steering works great, similar to 2650.
2)Did not experience any heating issues.
3)Themes on the 8650 looks awesome.
4)The 8650 screen tilting feature looks so cool when starting up the car as the steering auto adjust coupled with the tilting action of the screen is damn shiok.
5)Noticed immediate sound improvement compared to the 2650.
That said,I also had a teething problem of a buzzing sound when connecting the GPS to the 8650. This was resolved by replacing the GPS unit with another brand. (Done FOC from the audio shop)
If you are looking to upgrade the 2650 to 8650,just do it! Need to just be mindful of interference from the existing GPS and try to get assurance from the audio shop that they will resolve the buzzing sound from the GPS should it occur.
Hi all, I have a couple of questions.

I realized more and more PIs are bringing in only the Panoramic Roof Harriers, with fewer and fewer offering the non-roof models.

If I remember correctly someone in this thread mentioned a risk of these roofs leaking, usually after 5 years of use. Is this a real concern? Or is this something easily avoidable through preemptivemaintenance or replacement? I saw the Panoramic Roof and I love it, but about half of my parking will be in opened car parks, in this case would it be better if I go for the non-roof version?

Also I see some PIs offering the Elegant or Premium models but with a "Moon Roof" feature, are these the same as the Panoramic Roofs (the prices are about the same)? Or are these the type where the glass part of the roof cannot be opened? You still get to see the sky, you just don't get to feel the wind. I heard these are safer against leaks since the glass are sealed tight. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Correct and the weird part is the workshop said there is a chance of HU over heating!!! Not sure how true this is.
Pioneer 8650 manual clearly stated it support both add-on and default cable to connect to steering remote. Granted some add-on looks like it may draw some power, but I do have serious doubt about this statement.

I asked about the panoramic vs moon roof before. For harrier it either come with it or don't have. There is only one type.

Sounds great to have 8650, that would be my choice too. bro, can take a picture to show how 8650 fits into the HU slot, any gaps on both sides like 2650?

bro, i also like the roof. if i remember correctly, first you open the top (i remember one piece) to see two pieces of glasses, you are able to see the sky but cant feel the wind. the you can futher open the front piece of glass to feel the wind, glass panels cant be 100% open though. go visit a showroom to feel yourself, you will like it, :)

Yeah I've actually seen the Panoramic Roof at one of the showrooms and I love it. But I also heard there are issues with the "openable" glass panels leaking with time (around 5 years?), hence am concerned as half of the time I will likely be parked in an opened car park.

So seeking inputs from the people here to see if the leaking problem can easily be prevented, or if there are any versions which the glass portion does not open at all (seems not).

Cannot imagine leaving my car in the open to find it "flooding" on the inside the next morning after a night of heavy rain.

There are still gaps on both left & right, but slightly less than with the 2650 coz the 8650 is 1 inch bigger.
I topped up $430 for the replacement.

I think normally there will be sign of leaking at the beginning, you will see water mark on the soft board beneath the glass. Not reasonable to have car flood suddenly, if you ask me.

Oh, and when you are changing your tyres (be it on highways/country roads) remember to put the reflective triangular vehicle breakdown sign at a distance of 30m to 60m from the car. This would give enough warning to other road users and reduce the potential danger.

When doing this, best to be as kiasu as possible. Open boot, take barang from boot (e.g. if boot have box, take the box put on road and put the triangle on top of the box 30 meters from car). In fact, got whatever barang in boot just take out and put it there.

For MPVs and wagons, open boot is good cos it is damn high and visible.

If you are looking to upgrade the 2650 to 8650,just do it! Need to just be mindful of interference from the existing GPS and try to get assurance from the audio shop that they will resolve the buzzing sound from the GPS should it occur.
Bro, can you do us a favour, check with your audio workshop, maybe the PI, whether they use any module to hook up the 2650 / 8650 to the steering. This will clear the doubt for everybody.
Would you mind showcase your 8650? Hehe
Correct and the weird part is the workshop said there is a chance of HU over heating!!! Not sure how true this is.

If the workshop don't know how to fix they will cook up all kinds of reasons not to fix it. do it at another workshop and go back to show them it can be done?

Good one! Haha! No power to praise else I will do that!

Still very dangerous, coz on expressways where people are travelling at 70~90 kph, even if you have items placed 50m ahead it will still just take any oncoming driver or rider less than a few seconds to reach you after he passed your triangle / lobang.

And this is worse on the NSHW, where the speed limit is 110 kph and full of "racers" going at over 130 / 140 kph on both lanes of the road.

Not sure if the following is good advice but it is what I did when I had a flat when travelling on the PIE the last time.

I slowed down, carefully shifted to the extreme right lane and exited as soon as I can, found a nearby car park, went in, parked, then and only then proceed to check and change tyres.

Yes, I risked damaging the wheel and perhaps even the shaft, but at least I avoided the risk of oncoming vehicles side-swiping me at 70 kph while trying to tighten the nut. Just my $0.02.
Poison sia. How much to upgrade from 2650 to 8650?
Ya man! I was so decided to ignore the upgrade....now u one post i am so tempted again. Posioned!

I am still at researching stage though.

Thanks Eric,

Yeah I've actually seen the Panoramic Roof at one of the showrooms and I love it. But I also heard there are issues with the "openable" glass panels leaking with time (around 5 years?), hence am concerned as half of the time I will likely be parked in an opened car park.

So seeking inputs from the people here to see if the leaking problem can easily be prevented, or if there are any versions which the glass portion does not open at all (seems not).

Cannot imagine leaving my car in the open to find it "flooding" on the inside the next morning after a night of heavy rain.
u mean the sparkling black pearl? actually it is dark purple.
