    iTronics ITB100HD Gaps in recording?

Hi, I just read the following review on amazon for the ITB-70. It raises some worrying issues with iTronics as a reliable camera with the same issues persisting in 2 itb70 devices and the new ITB100:

I had another model dash cam that worked well but wasn't nearly as inconspicuous as this unit. I volunteer as Fire/EMS first response and a camera helps document accidents as well as recording our own driving events. I was so enthused from the reviews I bought two of these cameras from Amazon. Both have been running now for a couple months dutifully recording everything that happens while driving in each car... I thought. Like most here, I checked the video early on and everything was fine. However, when the card fills up the trouble begins. It misses large gaps of video. Another reviewer here mentioned it sometimes takes 5 minutes to start recording which is exactly what I see on both of these cameras. I would assume, with two samples purchased at different times, it would not be a "bad camera". Another reviewer mentioned the instructions recommended formatting the card two times a week. Asking a user to baby an automated device like that takes away the automation and reliability.

A car video recorder advertised to record events and help prevent liability in case of accident needs to record sequentially and reliably without glitches or 5 minute delays. 5 minute delays and large missing video recordings are not acceptable. Asking a busy person to format the SD card 2 times a week is placing a software workaround in the hands of the end user. Either the recording software, the firmware or the device itself has a critical and fatal flaw for the camera's intended purpose. Also, reaching the factory for support is ... well... humorous. The other reviewers here need to carefully check their camera cards and make sure they are recording sequentially, accurately and with no gaps.

I was initially going to rate this camera 5 stars. It has a fantastic form factor and is nearly invisible. It has everything going for it except for working as designed. If these 2 cameras could be returned I would but I've likely had them too long.

Update: I never did hear from the vendor on the problems mentioned here. I don't trust the models reviewed above and went back to my previous cameras. As an interesting aside I see they have a new HD camera mentioned in a review here. Again, I really like the form factor on these cameras. Excellent size and style so I ordered the iTRONICS ITB-100HD Full HD Car camera. It arrived as usual quickly (from South Korea) well packaged in a nice box. The ad said it had an English manual. But... it only came with a Korean manual and did not come with any software. The camera works better than my 70 series but still occasionally has gaps in the video. While you can play the AVI files with a video player I can't see the GPS information (speed, location, etc.) because their proprietary software contains those features. I haven't had a reply from two request to the company yet but hope this will be remedied soon. I'm determined to make these products work since they have the best (and most discreet) form factor on the market.

Why look at reviews of the old model ITB70 when now is already ITB 100hd. And how long ago was that review? ITB100HD is seamless recording tested & proven. 5mins delay doesn't make sense, even those cheapo china cams only have 5 secs gap in between. And perhaps he is using a incompatible card with the wrong class? or corrupted card? or that the so call '5 mins gap' is categorized as an event file & he overlooked it?
I have checked with the manufacturer & an ex user of ITB70, the user mentioned its seamlessly recording based on their experience, so i cant say its 100% accurate from that 1 review alone.

To date, hundreds units of ITB100HD have been sold, there are no complain on interval gap between the file. I m reviewing my video from my ITB100hd now, seamless recording.

I think its unfair to bold font the "iTronics ITB100HD Gaps in recording?" based on the review on its old model, & especially u are not an user of the Itronics ITB100HD yourself.. It will mislead readers that itb100 has gap issues.

So for example, some brand have overheating issue for one of its model, it doesnt mean all of the models of the brand have overheating issue too. Agree?

I'm sticking to my DR400HD, heating issue I remove from the car when parked, no perfect world, no perfect product.
I'll consider the ITB-100hd for my other car, but like I told you, it will void my warranty if I temper with the electronics,
so I'll let it be for the time being and monitor the usage of the DR400HD, which so far, is working fine aside from the date/time bug.

Sorry, I was in a rush when I was posting that review and couldn't find the quote tags so used a different font, I tried to go back and edit it but I can't. I see the quote tags now!

This is the only product that shows up on amazon when searching itronics so I was just interested to read reviews and of course I went to the lowest score with a help rating of 37 out of 38 readers. I wouldn't have posted it at all if it wasn't for the fact he mentioned that he upgraded to 100hd and that the same problem was still there. It's good to hear that no such issues have been reported here so maybe he's overlooking something?

The review is too backdated, Published 6 months ago by JWise , seems to be to be more of a user problem than a product problem. You should take reference from the latest review here with the latest firmware to be fair. We cant be digging reviews from months ago, example for dr400, gps problem or sd card hanging issue which have been backdated like 4 months back & post the review here saying it still have the existing problem. Agree?

Yes, the review is 8 months old, I'm not sure how old the "update" is where is has purchased the 100hd and is having the same problems though, less than 8 months anyway. Perhaps the class of SD card used is a problem. Do you recommend class 10 32gb yourself? Any particular brand?

My ride is a c class and I have ITB 100HD installed with power magic with parking mode off.

    What could have went wrong?

    Thanks.

    Shochong,

Thanks for the ITB 100 HD, it's very good.

However, just to check, when parked, is it normal for the camera to still have a bit of movements. I was anticipating flat lines while reviewing the parked videos but the lines showing triaxial movements still has little fluctuations.

Further, after setting it to insensitive while driving, it is still rather sensitive and recorded a lot of Events while driving along the expressways at speeds above 100km/hr. Only lower than 100km/hr then it does not register Events as frequent. Is this normal?

I have a mind to switch shock-sensitivity to off while driving, but if langar will record as Event or not?

Hi bro, thats normal for the lines. Think is due to the current inside the unit.
Yes the sensor is normal as u are driving above 100km/hr, the unevenness of the road will cause it to be detected as event, especially if your car suspension is stiff like mine haha..
Just leave it to the least sensitive, & off the beep sound. Recording as event is better than normal in case its overwritten.

I saw this line when I read the manual:

    Pg 2:

<Warranty & Scope fo Liability of Video Recording>
    .
. If the level of impact is so light even in the case of an accident, the impact senor (sensor) may not recognize it and fails to sort out the data as event file automatically. In this case, press the event button manually.

My question: Where is the event button?

Your brochure also states that F520 does not have "no time interval saving technology". Don't think that's true because i believe the F520 does come equipped with this technology.

I wonder how ZMC B8 compares to itronics? There's probably going to be a lot of similar HD cameras coming out soon.

Shochong, is this the right transcend card to go for? http://www.amazon.co...0/dp/B0046BEIDY

That's NOT micro SD, I know the blackvue used MICRO, but does the ITB use regular?

There's also the E version: http://www.amazon.co...E/dp/B003VNKNF0 the E is for "Built-in error correction(ECC) automatically detects and fixes transfer errors" but I'm not sure this would be any extra use for DVR :)

Should I set it to something else so that events are not overridden? There is a pie chart thingy in the manual.

for both blackvue and ITB, old records will be over written.

you can however choose how the overwriting is to be done. eg, by time or by event proportion.

    MO,

    See this picture :

    External_Batt_pack_connection_001.JPG

U still can use this external batt pack for ur car camera that uses 5V. For me to make this adapter is easy for me, abt 3mins or less. Another way is to open the car cam cig plug, remove the PCB inside and solder it directly to the S$1.00 adapter. This one will take abt 5mins. biggrin.gif

Actually this battery pack is only 3.7V 10,000mah. There is an internal step-up board to make it output 12V. Making it step-down to 5V again is very inefficient IMO. But what to do, only can use wat I know to help u. Dismantling the battery pack n mod the internal PCB is not within my expertise.

Let me know how u want to do it. Exchange with Mee Goreng(2 packs, one for me n another for wifey). laugh.gif

Was speaking to a man today who runs a stall in a few markets around my city. He's been robbed from his van a few times and is looking to get something installed that will record inside, clearly, around the drivers door. Any suggestions? I guess something like the ITB100HD could be used and just turned around when the car is parked to face the drivers door/inside the cab?

How come most of us only care about recording on the move? Most install the camera facing front n that normally only show your fault when you rear-end someone.
Someone hitting us from the side or rear will not be captured, so really defeats the purpose.
I would also want the camera with motion sensor so it can record anyone or any car coming near in case of hit and run or vandalism.

Check with ur own make of car if the cig plug is powered 24/7. Some cars have this feature to allow the driver to power their own stuff while engine is off.

A good car cam will come with capacitor in its PCB to buffer for voltage surges. In fact it should be in the design of the PCB before they even built the model. Only a regulated power supply will give u constant 12V.

Ur car cig plug voltage will range from 11 to 14.5V. So the manufacturers sure have to build in capacitors in their PCB.

Very simple, just get more car cam to cover all possible angles. U will need to install extra huge battery supply to power ur car cams to prevent drain on ur main car battery.

Nothing is impossible. The car cams are out there, u willing to pay??? One good one ard S$400, u need six or eight car cams??? Then the extra battery + bigger alternator to power two car batts + professional wiring job. In the end should come up to S$4-5k. S$4-5k having a peace of mind???

Then catching the culprit on video but police do not want to prosecute the culprit. How??? Squeeze own balls lor. laugh.gif
