    update 1 on 231111: jus sharing -

got 400 for front & 350 for back w pwr magic since ytd. initial recording ok; bv software installed on pc ok, except 350 one play on bv s/w all black screen but can play w gom player; no issues w settin up for both sets.

backside itchy go format 350 sd card, then dvr kept reportin "pls chk ur sd card" (actually referred to manual later was due to nvr upgrade firmware (NOTE: nvr insert BLANK sd card into bv dvr); now ok liao.

this evening 400 "hang", indicated by continuous purplish light, even after unplugged. waited for lights off b4 remove sd card to do format using sd formatter 3.1 (ALWAYS use pittasoft recommended sd card formatter) & firmware upgrade.

now everythin back to norm, fingers crossed.

overall stylish, value for money (due to GB good offer by bro Xavier) & well-build product, only let down by not so stable firmware. also 400 feels between warm & hot, 350 slight warm; both body r plastics.

update 2 on 301111: everythin still normal, except intermittent gps --> sometimes start engine to drive car no gps light, sometime there's gps light.

update 3 on 011211: hang in morning (continual purple light); loaded 301111 version dr400g-hd sw; back to normal for time being.

update 4 on 081211: GPS light not on for 2 days when driving wif mix of tunnel & surface roads, each for about 10 mins duration (previously GPS took 2 mins to light up (activate))

update 5 on 261211: got a replacement set due to intermittent gps (NOTE: shipping cost is SGD30 as claimed by Xavier; only ship back main set & not whole box; so try whatever u can 1st e.g. reformat & retry before confirm to ship back)

Update 6 on 100112: gps not working for a couple of days

Update 7 on 080212: all is well now, but gps may not on due to v-cool n location?

Tks Xavier for his patience n assistance during above period.

Update 8 on 100212: during very hot afternoon, HD set got noisy, purplish & streaking recording, ended with a hang on 1st occasion & ended with "pls check SD card" repeated prompt this afternoon; also noted GPS has stopped working altogether.

Update 9 on 150212: confirmed HD set gets noisy, purplish & streaking recording when car parked in open during clear mid-day. Re-format with full overwrite & swapped to rear windscreen & mount upside down - recording & GPS came on despite v-cool film installed on windscreen (may not be solar film issue; GPS sensor mounted at bottom internal?). Will leave it this way for monitoring 1st.

Update 10 on 170212: swapped HD set to front, record & GPS light still on; past few days no continuous parked under hot sun for > 2hrs due to weather & schedule.

Update 11 on 200212: GPS almost down again after re-format & reload s/w. these few days got to park under morning sun direct, today parked for < 1hr, got purplish, noisy, streaky image; drove off at mid-day - same image with added blackout complete & whiteout complete at last few videos + day & month jumped randomly to OCTOBER 2012??? =>

I considered that too. Can charge using USB and mount upside down (there's a flip function in the software. Only thing is no display. Ended up buying a Vico DS-1 from Taiwan. HD quality, decent functions and screen. No heat problem to worry about coz it doesn't have a built-in battery.

If u buy a normal battery stating no charging, will u still charge it?
If product stated max 65 degree & cant take the heat, then dont use it when u are parking under the extreme heat.
If you need to constantly park under hot sun for long hours & still want surveillance, then dont buy blackvue.
    Simple lol.

Purplish video defective rates is around 8% for my customers.
    92% are enjoying without complains.
The 8% are thankful for the after sales warranty.

To buy or not to buy, its up to the ppl.

That is not exactly true, the recommended working temperature IS clearly stated.
If you work in a furnace, and the tolerable working temperature is stated to only 200C
but your furnace even at 10mtrs is 3000C, you expect it to still function or melt?

$1 is not like bullock cart wheel so big. I have no qualms about the camera, even packed under the sun,
I just turn it off, and yesterday morning, captured one dangerous driving and road harassment, of which I reported to
Traffic Police, so clear the number plate can be seen in clear detail. Yet to find a camera that can match this.
Like I said, personally, I'm very pleased with the product and his service to resolve any issues and questions
I have about the camera. Good service is important, as you can see, some of the brothers here got crap from other
shops, problems, keep going back and forth, and even some gave them the "couldn't be bothered, I made your money already" attitude.

I beg to differ, if it's really a heat issue, this thread here will be on fire with complains with all the buyers from Shochong.

Even with maybe higher break down rates, Shochong stood by his products and gives good support to all his customers without fail.

That i feel is the most commendable rather than just selling and let us customers to go figure out by themselves.

to be fair, actually dr350 has been working fine until now.

like wat another bro has commented fr another related thread, heat dissipation has become a technical challenge in such a tiny body w hi-res & GPS tech built-in.

if not for the hi-res & compact / no mess installation compared to other makes & models, i would probably have given it a miss.

DR400 uses GPS to set the time stamp on the video. So it will be nice to see in the next update if they can find a way to only turn on GPS for the first 1minute to calibrate the time. After that the we can set the unit to switch off GPS either when driving or parking

well in the 1st place this is a car camera, it was made to be kept inside a car even on a hot day
even before anything the manufacturers must have taken into consideration the potential heat issues before designing the product right?

personally i'm interested to buy a cam but i'm holding off until either a newer model is released to fix these issues or another camera with a similar video quality is released

i don't know how much you guys are paying for your cameras locally because i can never find a pricelist with a price but on ebay its going for $280 including shipping, but even at 280 its expensive considering the very high probability of failure

I did a search on Ebay today at 10.30am, the cheapest deal i can find is S$ 312.72 WITHOUT power magic from korea, so i dont know where u find your ebay deal at $280.
U can try buying from ebay & try their after sales services.

Well, again, if you read the working temperatures, you'd know what to expect as well. If even for that kind of price on ebay you deem it expensive, I suggest the most cheapest option, blink your eye, it captures a MENTAL picture. Download I donno, no USB port so far. biggrin.gif You pay for what you buy.

Just for a thought for users of 400...as it runs hot, the Micro SD also almost burning hot...anyone knows the temp tolerance for these memory cards? I was taking out mine earlier and its really very hot...this might be one of the reason it "reboots"?
  • 23 February 2012 - 11:07 PM

maybe its becoz i drive very little ... but as long as the card is in the BV400 and the BV400 is running and pasted on your windshield ... how much issue is there with heat ?? no one ask anyone to touch the BV when driving or to eject the card when driving also ... so what's the issue ?

but as a backup precaution, i have a total of 3 cams running whenever i am on the road, just in case anyone fails.

as for those who feel that they can wait for the ultimate camera ... well, my colleague just bought a common one being sold on the internet for under $50 ....

throughout the past few years, i have always suggested to him to get one but he said no need ... until last month when he had to fork out $1600 for his car repairs when a truck carrying stones dropped one big stone beside him when he was driving and his car ran over the stone and stalled and his undercarriage was badly damaged.

as he car stalled, he cud not give chase to the truck and had no details of the truck at all and had to pay everything by himself.

moral of this story, procrastination will only bring regret and a painful lesson when something happens.

i am all for BV but like i mentioned above, i have extra 2 cams working at the same time as backup. (btw, i was involved in an accident 3 years ago ... and my cam was not working at that moment and the case ended up 50/50 but my ins premium went from $600 to $1400 and then $1100 and then this year $800 = $1500 premium increase !!

so it does not matter if you get the best ... but at least get something average for a peace of mind.

maybe you can get in touch with the manufacturer and check if any of their distributors are within your itinerary and you can go there when you get to korea.

There's a smaller mall called Nova opp Taipei train station. Bought my carcam there. Better to buy from a shop that is registered with the tax authority and that can do the GST refund paperwork for you (refund is claimable at airport). My refund more than paid for my SD card capacity upgrade :)

I am not sure if just the heat sink only helps or harm the unit even more especially when the car is in the sun. Wouldnt the heat sink gets heated up too under the sun???

I think you will need to add a fan to cool the heat sink too.

Need to go back to thermal-dynamics.

I will post my review of the Finevu CR-300HD here. Had it fixed up over the weekend. Having it running for two days continuously.

ShoChong, u may be wrong on the heat issue. This unit comes with vent for heat dissipation but the unit itself still heats up pretty much same as Blackvue DR400G-HD. I measured the various parts of the unit and surprised that one side peaked at 56 degrees C, almost same temp as the Blackvue DR400G-HD.

This unit does not come with GPS so not sure where the heat is coming from. Below pic shows the different temp measured on the unit.

Another thing, the firmware is in Korean........so settings are pretty much default except for night brightness which I selected to medium as advised by you. Shock sensor is pretty sensitive, not sure left or right to set it less sensitive. May need a korean babe help to do translation. biggrin.gif

Full review coming up............later in the week.

Hi bro, under overnight parking mode its does not feel as hot as dr400 based on my test.:)
56 degree is based on one small piece but dr400 is hot throughout.
I have sent u the English manual so it's pretty easy to tally with the actual software;)
Anyway the GUI can be changed to English once the English firmware is released. This is a Pre launch for the finevu latest model. :)

Will show u the temp measurement when u are back. I have both of them (DR400G and CR300HD) running in my car. Took temp reading of both while they are recording. Car was parked in sheltered parking lot the whole night.

Yup, received the english manual but the GUI is in Korean so for the moment dont dare to change the default settings. For the shock sensor, do u know the left side or right side is less sensitive?

But I like the motion sensor, only near(ard 5m) then activate and record. Can adjust the sensitivity but I cant read korean so do not know left or right is less/more sensitive.

Default looks ok to me now.

Hi bro, left is less and right is more. U can see the cr200 hd English GUI for reference too they are almost similar;)

Thanks to Shochong help to bring in this Finevu CR-300HD. Here is a short write-up of the car camera.

I like the cylindrical shape design of this car camera, it looks compact and can be easily hidden from view when mounted in front of the rearview mirror. The black exterior colour also helps in its camouflage. The LED control buttons are nicely placed facing the rear so that it will not attract any attention while in operation. There is no option to turn off the LED though. The control buttons allow the user to use the unit as a video camera or photo camera. U can also turn off the mic or tell the unit to go into parking mode. It operates with 12V plug or 5V(via mini-USB). Size wise, look at the photo compared with two other higher end car cameras, Blackvue DR400G-HD and DOD-Tech GSE580.

It comes build with shock sensor and motion sensor. Shock sensor operates in normal and parking mode. Motion sensor only operates in parking mode. The sensitivity of these sensors can be adjusted thru the settings menu when plugged into a PC. By default, Parking mode is activate within 10mins of no activity in front of the camera. But you must have constant power supply to be able to activate the parking mode. If its power adapter is simply plugged into the cig lighter, it will auto turn on or off when you start ur car. When turning off, the camera would record an additional 4mins thru its internal battery before shutting down.

Video quality is good, only two resolution options, either HD(720p) or Full HD(1080p). When set to Full HD, able to read off number plates from three car length away in day time, normal for such higher end car cameras. However, I find that there is a slight disparity of video sharpness when compared to Blackvue DR400G-HD. Night video is also comparable to the Blackvue DR400G-HD, brightness can be adjusted from the settings menu. Coverage of video was good, its wide angle lens able cover from left A pillar to right A pillar of my car bonnet. Great for capturing those sudden swerve into my lane heros.
The video recording is set at 3mins interval w/o any time lapsed between video files. Event video(activated by shock or motion sensor) are set at 40secs interval, 10secs before the ?Event? and 30secs after. No option to change the video recording duration.

The Finevu CR-300HD comes with build-in battery monitoring function and option of add-on anti-reflection lens filter. There is no need to install additional battery monitoring devices like power magic. The unit will detect the voltage supply and shutdowns down the camera if voltage is low. Thus preventing your car battery being drained. So far I saw from my recorded footage, camera auto shutdown when voltage reaches below 11V. However there is no option to adjust this cutoff value.

Another smart feature is the unit will auto flip the video right side up whether u mount it on the windscreen or on the dashboard.

Minimum microSD card requirement was Class6. It comes with a 16Gig microSD card. I am using my Sandisk Ultra 32Gig Class6 microSD card and so far so good, no hang.

After two days of continuous running of the unit, I took the temperature at various parts of the car camera using a infra-red thermometer. Overall, the whole unit operates at ard high 40 degrees C and one side peaking at 56 degrees C. It does run slightly cooler than Blackvue DR400G-HD but still warmer than my DOD-Tech GSE580. Have to monitor if there will be long term effects like the Blackvue DR400G-HD.

Somethings I do not like :

    - You cannot change any settings thru the control keypads. U have to hook up the unit to ur PC to do the settings. Even if you take out the microSD card and plug into a card reader, u also cannot access the settings menu. Only connecting the physical unit thru USB to ur PC will do.

    - There is no build-in software to view the video, shock sensor reading or gps like Blackvue or DRS110PRO. The video is stored in preset folders and you open them up to access them. They are recorded in universal recognized format, AVI. Each three min file size is about 221mb. Each 40sec event file size is about 49mb. Finevu website has the video player, you can download it from there.

    - The 3.5mm video output plug(output both video and audio) does not fit my Nexbase portable DVD player input. They should provide normal RCA connector output cable instead. Have to do guess work while mounting the unit.

    - Korean language firmware at the moment. Hope for English firmware soon.

    - Ya, it does not come with LCD screen or GPS thou its higher price.

    Pros :

    1) Build-in auto low batt shutdown function

    2) Clarity in the night

    3) Audio muting

    4) Battery voltage display

    5) No time lapsed between video files

    6) Relatively small in size

    7) Double tape mounting

    Cons :

    1) Lack of video quality adjustments

    2) Lack of recording duration adjustments

    3) Lack of LCD screen

    4) Lack of GPS

    5) A bit pricy

    6) No option to turn off date n time stamping

    7) Need to connect car cam to PC to adjust settings

For a inbuilt power magic function, also from an more established company in Korea than pittasoft, I think the price is very reasonable for this high end model. :)

Bro i just checked with the manufacturer today , even that model pasted is a COPY .
DOD does not supply any F900LHD to dealextreme currently .
So when a purchase is made , they will send you a COPY model .

if you noticed the authentic products carry the BRAND name , but for this F900LHD no brand name was specified , on top of that , F900LHD can never be cheaper then F880LHD .
There is no such thing as a OEM model for DOD , only fakes .

Please be careful with your purchases and don't be victims of copyright products .
If you need any help with Genuine products , dont hesitate to let us know , we will gladly help you on that .

i think its nonsense. a good camera should be able to record at a good quality at high FPS.

GoPro does not have the features required of a car camera. It is a good camera thou.

You can take a bus to cross the causeway. Then hop on a cab to Johor Pasir Gudang Race Circuit. Remember to take down the cab mobile number, you can call him to fetch you when you are done at the circuit.

Taxis can be boarded at the new Johor CIQ. For booking, call +607 3322855

You dont need a car to go there. biggrin.gif
