    Hi all,

I just got myself a new car.
Am thinking of installing a Car survelliance Camera inside for better security feel.
(Nowadays Vandalism news in MSCP are so common)

I am looking at getting a front & back dual angle camera.

    Questions:

    1) How much does a decent one normally cost?
    2) Will this kind of camera drain out your car battery quickly?
    3) If I park my car and set it to motion detection mode - does it mean it will only record when something passby my vehicle?
Will this function save more battery life?
    4) Have been warned by my car agent on how people's car window was smashed due to expensive GPS installed.
Does't that mean If I install a good expensive survelliance camera, I also have a high chance of getting car window kenna smashed too???
= so is installing Survelliance camera / GPS more safe or not ????

    Please enlighten me. Thanks

    Hi,

    1) How much does a decent one normally cost?

Depends on ur budget. From less than S$100 to more than S$400.

    2) Will this kind of camera drain out your car battery quickly?

Yes, it will drain ur car battery if connected to car battery. How quickly it drains depends on the operating ampere of the car camera.

    3) If I park my car and set it to motion detection mode - does it mean it will only record when something passby my vehicle?

    Yes.

Will this function save more battery life?

No. The camera has to be turned on for this function to work. Just less file created in ur memory card.

If the car camera is well hidden, difficult to be spotted. GPS cannot be hidden, otherwise u urself also cannot see.

    Thank u for replying.
    2) How do I check the car operating ampere? For those drivers who are using car camera daily, how fast do they have to top up their battery or change battery becos of this?
    4) I have seen many drivers installed their survelliance camera below their rear mirror centre, isn't that more prompt to being spotted, some more the operating LED light of the camera also very obvious.

Got my Sandisk 32G class4 microSD card yesterday. I took it out from the package and immediately plug it into the DR400G. What u know, the LED did not turn on!!! Its off as per my setting. Then I took the stock Samsung 16G class6 which came with the Blackvue and plug it in. The LED came on again. wacko.gif

Took out the Samsung, plug in the Sandisk, LED off. Drove ard, brought it home n plug the Sandisk into my PC to check the settings. It is the same as I had set on the Samsung.

For now, I am happy with the Sandisk. Its still my trusted brand.

Hmm bro, u might wan to monitor a while more with class 4, I thought my set was affected by the firmware when using the 32GB Kingston Class 4, it keeps rebooting by itself, as I always believe class 4 is not fast enough for full hd videos quality, i tried a OEM Brand 32GB class 10, & the rebooting issue never occurs anymore. Did a change in class of the card because my friend who is hardcore in photography told me that for their normal camera, class 4 will cause the camera to hang because of the slower writing speed.

Wa, BV really that good ah? must see the recording 1 day, or try it out. best is can mount both BV and GS and drive around day and at night. this way, can compare the results.

i suppose the higher resolution the recording, the higher the class of SD card needed? so for both BV and GS, do we need class 10?

Day 4 running 24hrs using 32GB class 10 OEM brand micro sd on my blackvue dr400, no rebooting issue, no button led issue :)
so now is firmware issue, or writing speed issue?
Seems to me like the full hd requires a higher class card & its fine..

My colleague switched to Transcend 16GB Class 10 Micro SD 1 week ago, no problem with the button led since then too...

Anyway lets wait for the patch to confirm.

    Bro Adrianli..

just to clarify. Ur LED light comes on while recording? when car moving, or in parking mode? or just at startup.

    Been monitoring my unit.

Settings... LED button to be "off"... in fact, voice alarm, change recording mode, etc, etc all "off". Kept only the light for normal/event recording when moving... this flashes slowly when in operation. (the GPS light is also operative).

So far all OK (other than the same slightly jerky playback). The LED button comes on only when the unit is starting up.., goes through its rainbow of colours, then "off".

If turn off power before the unit goes into normal recording mode, there is still a voice alarm that "BV is shutting down". If the unit got to complete its start sequence, there is no such alarm on power off..

Using the packaged Samsung 16GB, Cl 10 mSD, latest firmware v1.035.

I set to no LED light, the circular LED which can change colour. Initially no LED light either in parking mode or normal mode(when car moving). Then after a day or two, the LED light appears and stay there. The colour of the LED is blue but my selected colour was red. When it hangs, its purple light.

My firmware is the latest as per Pittasoft website, v1.035.

Quality is the very important difference, you would not want to capture unclear footage which is not helpful in case of accident claims or vandalism cases.. the GPS is only for you to plot your journey on the google map. mellow.gif

The GPS is not for u to find ur car lah. It is to show u the location u have driven before when u review the videos in the microSD card.

Standard resolution n Full HD resolution is a major difference. If its not HD, I wouldnt even wana buy it. laugh.gif

Why don't you guys just leave the LED on. I do not have any problem. The LED actually acts like a deterrence

Maybe u guys should post in eng.pittasoft.com in their FAQ section as feedback, then they will work harder to release the patch asap, they wont be able to see the forum comments here laugh.gif
When i was using 32GB class 4, i have experienced issue with it because of the large capacity & slow writing speed for full hd video size, and a class 10 solve my problem.
Maybe its good to just leave the LED on like what Amazon777 suggested for the time being, switching on & off the LED is not gona affect the normal operation of the dvr also, deterrence is a good point.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

The DR400 also gives me a lot of problems. Sometimes while on the road, it will go off and back on by itself. And while in parking mode, it will shutdown by itself after a few hours. And once awhile it will keep saying "please check sd card", reformatting the sd card will fix this for a few days then happen again.

Meanwhile I have gone back to my old DR350, which has no such problems, and wait for a stable working firmware in the future.

i did run the full overwrite using the sd formatter 3.1 for samsung card. I thought it should be ok then the same thing happen again. I did a chkdsk and indeed errors came out. I guess even a class 6 is not enough for this blackvue kuku.. Zzzz

for the other DR400G-HD unit, i'm using Silicon Power mSD card, 32 GB, Cl 10, with v1.035 firmware/software.

    setting Button LED to "off".

seems also no problem.. same sequence, button LED lights up when power on, goes through sequence of colours, then off. (btw, the DR350 units also button LED on when start-up, then off).

but so far, i don't think i had the units continuously on for more than 2 hours at a go. Maybe th e Button LED 'problem behaviour' u guys are getting is becoz the unit just got too hot after prolonged use??

Also, tried full HD, 15fps... no jerkiness on playback, though overall the recording is not as smooth as 30fps. Now, maybe the jerkiness at 30 fps is due to my laptop graphic card capability? picture quality is still ok... toying with idea of keeping at 15fps to record longer before the mSD card recycles...

Tested running for ard 1 week continuously 24/7 with class 10 micro sd, no issue so is definitely not because of unit getting hot issue.
Its completely normal for the led to go through the sequence of colors when starting up, it is just simulating that its booting up.
No Jerkiness during playback at 30fps, maybe u should try other video player to test , might be graphics card issue.
    Cheers

BEWARE WHEN PARKING ALONG ROADS IN PRIVATE ESTATES EVEN IF ITS LEGAL TO PARK!!! BEWARE PARKING OUTSIDE 43 EDEN GROVE!!!

    Dear all,
I have a really traumatizing incident that just occurred to share with all drivers, would-be drivers, or anyone that is interested.

Just now at about 9.30pm, I went to the curry house along Sunshine Terrace with my friends for a dinner after work. As there are no parking sites around the area, so I took a turn to behind the private estates at Eden Grove. I drove on and found a nice spot with a single white line drawn over (legal parking after 7pm). It does have a rubbish bin placed at the spot, but very near to the edge of the road, which I thought is fine and could fit my vehicle in that space. Thus I just parked at that spot.

After ensuring that my vehicle was parked correctly, not obstructing the traffic flow or the gates of the occupants in the house, I left my vehicle and went for my dinner. At about 11.20pm, I came and retrieve my vehicle. From far, I saw the house that I parked my car in front of was brightly lit. Thus I know that I might be ticked off for parking the vehicle outside their house, which they might not like.

I went over and I saw this lady in her 40?s, reading a newspaper. I called out to her, telling her that I am sorry for taking up the space, apologized to her. She immediately stared me in the eye and gave me a very unhappy look. I get into the car and immediately drove off.

After driving about 2-3 mins, I feel the steering is always steering to the left. I tried to position it back, but it still give the same problem. Then I heard a ?thup thup thup? sound. I stopped my car at a bus stop to check. To my dismay, MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AND REAR TYRES WERE PUNCTURED!!! THERE ARE DIRT STUFFED UP IN MY EXHAUST PIPES!!!

As I have no 2 spare tyres in my car, I tried my best to drive my car to the nearby City Tyres to examined the tyres. As I am driving on punctured tyres, the tyres were damaged easily due to the abrasions. After the mechanic pumped up the tyres, they found that, there are no punctured holes and there are no leaks. But the two air caps are gone. Someone have open the caps and let off the air. The mechanic says that the tyres looks to be damaged, and it cost $350 to change each one. As I dun really have that amount of cash, I asked if I use back the two tyres, is that ok? They say no guarantee. No money to change, means safety at risk, I use back the tyres.

I am really pissed off, and feel that it is really ugly, ungracious for whoever is doing that. They could have just told me off, scold me, or leave a note. Why do they have to put my life at risk. Punctured tyres could have gotten me killed on the road!

As my car was only parking outside one family?s house (again I want to stress, I did not obstruct the traffic or gates), I went back to that house to confront the lady whom I suspect could be the culprit, but its just a suspection, not an accusation (I do not want to be sued).

When I arrived, press the doorbell, first thing she told me is my vehicle was parking in front of her house, obstructing traffic. I say, no, I am sure its not! Which driver in the right mind would want to park directly in front of their house gates? She said she had called LTA and have taken the photos. I say ok, show me the photos. She gladly showed me the photos she took from all angles of my vehicle. One of the photos she is so proud of taking from inside her gates, showing boot lid of less than 20-30cm obstructing her gates. She said that she will put the photos of my vehicle plate no. on YouTube, STOMP, etc. I ask her husband to take a look at the photos to see tif there is anything wrong, he keep quiet, I am sure if she put it online, you all can see there is totally nothing wrong with my parking in the photos, so I am fine about that.

She also mention that she has placed the rubbish bins there to chop the place for her third car coming back to park (2 cars were inside her pouch already). I told her that I will only be having my dinner which would finish in an hour or two. She then relate say that last time there are cars parking down there overnight, who knows what time I will be coming back.

But I told her that she don?t own the road and I am not in fault in the eyes of law to park there. Then she kept showing me the picture showing my boot lid obstructing her gates. Then her husband said that there are devoted religious people, and would not do such a thing and kept denying it. I somehow believe the husband, but not the lady. Really in doubts. The lady was so prepared for my return to confront her, the camera, the threatening of calling LTA, and kept arguing that I am at fault.

Without any concrete evidence, except the obvious tell tales signs? I left? an angry and disappointed man. I don?t know whether its obvious or not, but I don?t expect that the occupants from the far end corner would play a prank on my vehicle lah. What do you people think? If you were in my shoes, who will you suspect? Could it be a dog passing by, thought its nipples on my car wheels, get horny and bite them away and suck all the air out?

I have since reported police and they treat the case as mischief. Once they do more investigations around that area, they will get back to me. But I think it will end up being an unsolved case.

I have tried to do a search online to see whether there are similar cases in Singapore. To my surprise, there are many, like a scratch on the car, rubbish bins chopping the place, rubbish bins placed at the driver door by the owners, industrial glues on the wind screens of the cars with the notes, etc. So many. To think, I will never be the first, and never the last, but just the unlucky one.

Having said all these, I do understand the frustrations and agony that the house owners have when there is no parking space for their vehicles when they lived there. But they should not prank on the safety of the drivers. We also have our families to feed on. What if we really passed on in the accidents due to these unforgiven pranks, what would become of our families? I am really traumatized by this behavior.

I am looking forward to inform the authorities including the newspapers and TV programmes about this. Hope that through this incident, it could allow people to realized that it is indeed wrong, very wrong to do that.

Even if you have a car cam, you may not be able to capture the vandal if he/she comes from the angle where the cam isn't pointing at....unless you have a 4 lens cam.

Anyway, if one thinks someone is parking at his/her doorway, and feels unhappy about it, he/she should just call TP to issue summon, or tow the vehicle away. Vandalism is a not the way to solve a parking problem.

I think using cl10 mSD cards makes sense as a quick calculation of the Full-HD resolution at 30fps will result in around 7.5mb/s of data being written by the DVR into the mSD card, hence the cl6 (guaranteed min 6 mb/s write speed) mSD that comes with the package would be barely sufficient if the card performance is marginal.

It is the house in-front parked a black Avante!

As mentioned, there was already a rubbish bin placed there before he came. For me, I will avoid parking at places where someone put an object or item to chomp place....even if I had to walk further away.

Different models have different requirements, moreover they are products from different manufacturers.
Though all are full hd, different video encoding file formats / audio formats also plays a part in affecting the file sizes.
Some full hd china oem brand will also have problem with class 4 cards, and some not.
    Better quality = larger files.
larger files = requires faster writing speed
    Blackvue quality > DOD quality
No offense, just my 2 cents worth.

Next time park there see anyone there just ask if it is ok for u to park there...got rubbish bin is like a sign, no parking pls" so need to read the signs before u park lah... At times I will park along such pte estate but if I see someone looking out I will ask if it is ok to park here and whether they need the space politely. If they say it is ok, then ok lor... not ok just move off to park elsewhere... ultimately, it is your words against that culprit. Dun depend so much on our local police, promotion dun depend on such trivial matter and they wont be bothered by it, you think they so free.. u might as well install 4 cameras from all angles, test your luck and park there again to lure them and catch them. Then you can pass your previous repair bills and insist they pay for it. If they do it this time, they must also be the one previously. If they refuse, then you report police or you rich enuff, send them a legal letter.

Like i mention, can flood eng.pittasoft.com at FAQ section to push them laugh.gif
Think they also having headache, rushing out the patch lol
Again i suspect the problem lies in the writing speed, not the firmware.
1 week + and counting, no issues with class 10, firmware 1.035.
But i do agree that pittasoft is somehow at fault, they should have tested the writing speed with the provided card before releasing.
Meanwhile, lets wait for the firmware update & see how it goes :)

No offense, just my 2 cents worth.
    laugh.gif

Comparing file size, if I remember correctly, DOD file size is larger than BV.

DOD file format is MOV, BV is mp4.

Quality wise, both are almost equal except for nite video. BV tends to over-expose the the video making the surrounding seems brighter than it actually is. Whereas GSE580 shows the actual surrounding light condition.

Take for example, the daytime video comparison I posted. That day was a cloudy day, u can see the dark clouds. But BV footage seems brighter than GSE580. Both are on stock settings.

Yeah, making end user to spend extra for another microSD card. mad.gif Otherwise they shouldnt provide, reduce the price n let end user purchase their own microSD card, like DOD-tec. laugh.gif

But the sound format quality is not the same right? mellow.gif
MOV vs MP4, maybe thats the difference that affects the requirements?
The overall processing and resources needed for the dvr will also affect the required writing speed.
My point is, hard to compare different models from different manufacturers.. so what Crusader75 mentioned might be correct based on the calculation using the video file size from Blackvue as calculation.

    Dear Xavier

    Yes, well noted and thanks,

Pittasoft said that because the problem is the SD Memory made in Sandisk, so the SD Memory was changed from Sandisk to Samsung memory card.
And I didnt hear about the Class.
I will check about it again and reply soon.

My Class 10 card is still 'on the way' from overseas to SG. :(

Anyway, pittasoft should do intensive testing before they even release the product. Not to be harsh but I think somehow they deserve to have this 'headache'. They forget to do the test for the sd card portion. Now it wednesday.. hope they can release the new firmware to solve all the issues. knife.gif

They know its class 4 Sandisk that causes problem on their very first batch of release, so they thought a higher speed samsung class 6 could solve it but they were wrong lol... So maybe their next batch is class 10? Then we can all send back and exchange haha
From what i know, they are facing a lot of demands for their dr400, its selling like hot cakes in korea & internationally, rates of production are not even fast enough for the demand, so that is maybe why they never do a thorough test.

thats why i said they failed to do their testing. They should use a class 4, 6 and 10 card to test their product before release it to end-user instead of we end user to do the test for them.

Send back and exchange? well my next question is who is going to pay the shipping charges? definitely not us right? hmmm.

luckily bro we are all IT savvy. imagine some unreasonable auntie or uncle buy the camera from you. WAH you going to have serious headache. haha

So far all my customers are matured adults & very reasonable lol. Shipping fee for 1 card, estimated $5-6(2-ways) each person i don't think they will mind, compared to buying a brand new one. Anyway, the question is, exchangeable anot, is it really because of the writing speed? or can the firmware update solve everything, is still is a ?. No point playing guessing game for now haha
Anyway, i will do my best to poke them for a reply haha

My DR400 also gave me problem: kept rebooting, kept asking me to check SD card (despite reformatting using Pittasoft firmware), hanged, and recording with LED on although I have set it to off.

Went back to the installer (mine's AD version) and he swopped my ori Class 4 Sandisk with Class 6 Samsung to try out. Let's see how the new card performs.

My set becomes rather hot to the touch when recording - normal and parking mode, so hot that even the SD card becomes hot to the touch. Had enough of this nonsense and got the technician to remove the Power Magic. Now, my set switches on/off according to ignition key. Was charged $20 for the job.

Glad to hear that. How much did you pay for Class 10? Had a hard time sourcing for even the Class 4 32GB card at SLS. Is you set/card very hot during recording and parking mode? I quite like the parking mode feature, but I guess the constant read/write damages the card faster.

    Amazon777

The DR400 also gives me a lot of problems. Sometimes while on the road, it will go off and back on by itself. And while in parking mode, it will shutdown by itself after a few hours. And once awhile it will keep saying "please check sd card", reformatting the sd card will fix this for a few days then happen again.

Meanwhile I have gone back to my old DR350, which has no such problems, and wait for a stable working firmware in the future.

Strange, I don't encounter any of your problems for my DR400. I'm using the original SD card that came with it and did not do any upgrade. Just straight from the box and fix on screen.

U can find 16GB class 10 card Transcend at Memory World lvl 4 in SLS. My friend bought it at are 50+. My own 32GB class 10 is a OEM brand bought online, you can find it from amazon at around 50usd hearsay from one of the bro here. Yea its normal for the set & card to gets hot, but that doesn't affect any normal operation of my unit. Has been running 24/7. You can consider switching to cl 10 wink.gif
