But sacrifice the day recording.....later I try it out... tongue.gif

Got my Blackvue DR400-G HD. It is a nice slim cylindrical shaped car cam and can be well hidden from view.

There is only one button on its exterior which is to activate parking mode only. All the settings has to be done thru the PC via the microSD card. Just like my previous car cam from korea, DRS1100PRO, open its proprietary software and adjust all the settings there. Their software is one of the most comprehensive one I have seen to date. The video is encoded in mp4 format so even w/o the software, u can use other video player to view the recorded video unlike my previous DRS1100PRO where the recorded video is encoded in its own proprietary format.

So far I only selected Full HD resolution n 30fps. The captured video is clear and sharp. The night video is the clearest I ever seen, beating the DOD-tech GSE580 hands down. For daytime video, both DR400-G n GSE580 are same. Coupled with a 120 degrees lens, it provides sufficent coverage area, from one end of the A pillar to the other.

The only dislike I find is the recording time frame. Settings only allow 1 to 3 mins long is allowed. If I would like to make a road trip video, I would have to link all the files together using my own video editing software. Also any change of settings, u got to remove ur microSD card n plug it into a PC. Unlike the rest of other car cam with LCD screen where u can change the settings instantly.

The other downside is this unit runs hot, I meant physically hot. It reached 58.0 degrees on my infra red thermometer somewhere near the speaker vent. It is the hottest running car cam I have. Therefore I am afraid of the life span of the unit.

The lack of a LCD screen also kept me holding back on my purchase. But I tot, wat the hell, just buy lah. laugh.gif It is an excellent replacement for my aged DRS1100PRO.

    good observations... like pro !

now that you raise the points..

    1. ya, it runs HOT, much hotter than the DR350.. unusual, wonder if they expected that in the design?

    2. do u see any jerkiness in ur recording (or playback)... mine seems to have.., every once in awhile. more during early stagesof recording, less later? i use original sdcard, and formatted using the specified sdformatter program, firmware also updated.

    3. can u play back on Realplayer? got error message that format is ACHV or something..???

    4. recording is sharp! tot DR350 was good.. thisDR400G-HD is much better. Both recording and the software. Except Hotness, and I have silver colour instead of black (more obvious).

    5. can playback DR350 recordings on the DR400 HD software.., so that's convenient.

    6. it's a "blackbox" afterall.. install and forget, use recordings when needed (hopefully never!). for roadtrips think a normal DV camcorder will givemuch better results?

    7. now have to decide what to do with my DSX1080SP (DV668FHD)..

No jerkiness in my recordings I reviewed so far.

    3. can u play back on Realplayer? got error message that format is ACHV or something..???

Never tried on Realplayer, I using the software provided and Dvix player to playback.

    6. it's a "blackbox" afterall.. install and forget, use recordings when needed (hopefully never!). for roadtrips think a normal DV camcorder will givemuch better results?

Able to do more things with ur recordings is amazing. See wat I did to my recording using the DOD-tec F900LHD for one of my road trips :

    7. now have to decide what to do with my DSX1080SP (DV668FHD)..

Use it as rearview car cam, or additional front cam, or ur office desk to catch ur colleague stealing ur biscuits, or ur corridor to catch Ah Long runner, or aim it at the streets and make a time-lapsed video, etc.............many many things to do. laugh.gif

Not that I know of. But if they strictly enforced, every car with rear view car cam also shouldnt be allowed. laugh.gif Its a camera too.

But when I go reservist, I do remove my car cams. Dont wana be caught for nothing. I am just going there to enjoy the sea breeze, have a cookhouse meal n past my time. No need to create problems for myself. biggrin.gif Two more low key ICT to MR!!!

Not a technical person but i think it also depends on the software/ hardware that's being used to manufacture the cams?

I tried my Lukas with class 4 cards 1s lag between each file. Same thing with the dr400, either 1s or no lag.

The "class" of the SD/SDHC card is actually the minimum write speed of the card.
    A Class 4 card's minimum write speed is 4MB/s. Class 6 = 6MB/s minimum and Class 10 = 10MB/s minimum.
The 1s lag between your files is due to the fact that your DVR is actually writing to the card at a faster rate than the card can accept.
For HD cams, it is recommended that you use at least a class 6 SD/SDHC card.

My front view camera is the more expensive DRS1100PRO.

    http://www.drivesurv...DRS1100PRO.html

I am trying to stick to the topic and TS budget of S$250, did not recommend this one.

For S$350 I paid for the DRS1100PRO, I think it is one of the better car camera in the market. It comes with shock sensor, GPS, mega resolution recording, wide angle lens, etc.....

If you have S$350 budget, get the DRS1100PRO. U will never regret, it is made in korea. If the local vendor no stock, u can search online and get it from korea. It will be almost the same price. S$350 price is only for MO of 5 units and more If I am not wrong. Normal special price is S$388.

When my vandalism case is resolved, I plan to do a video screening dedicated to the DRS1100PRO which captured the a------e in action. laugh.gif Then u guys can see the real recording of the guy's face. My fren comment that his hair stand when he saw how clear the video recording of the a------e in the act.

No more OT from me. laugh.gif

When you were doing surveillance for your vandalism case, did you power it from car battery or did you power from secondary battery source (eg. portable battery or additional deep cycle car battery).

anyone has any prob after installing the latest firmware/software?

My friend have this 2 symptoms

    1. When he power off Blackvue, the shutdown announcement is not finsh and the device is cutoff...... sometime it just announced "blackvue is..." and the device is OFF. it happen very regularly

    2. When he playback video, there is no GPS... he noted that when he is doing recording, the GPS light in lighted. (and yes, his laptop is connected to internet)

    Thanks.

    Hi,
    In reply for your symptoms:
    1. Common in all blackvue models, one ex owner explained its because the internal battery have not enough battery.
    2. I run on 64 bits windows & can't display the GPS, but is fine on 32bits.

    Cheers laugh.gif

bro, you friend mention he cannot see GPS. what does he mean? no watermark in video? could it be due to he didn't set the speed on?

when you playback using blackvue software, should be able to see the speed in the video too.

oic maybe thats the reason, i am running from the SD card hahaha
You can ask him to check under the "Record" folder if there is any gps file saved together with the mp4.
Maybe u can help us understand better by elaborating on 'No GPS' by your friend?

Was surprised to see a purple light when I went to my car this evening. I specifically turned off the LED liao with the new software. After one week plus of normal operation, it hangs on me!!! I had to unplug and re-plugged in then the unit works. When I reviewed the video, I realised the GPS is not exactly working!!! The video did display the speed info, but there is no GPS coordinates in the file to pinpoint my location on the google map!!!

Damn, the software of this blackvue is really unreliable!!! Cant imagine if a vandal strikes during this afternoon, nothing will be recorded. My DRS1100PRO has never happened like this before.

Yeap bro, that's what happened to me too. Even sometimes the latest firmware doesn't help?

    what you can try is
    1. quick format the current 16gb card, update the firmware using it.
    2. once upgrade finishes, do a full format of the 16gb card.
    3. put it in the recorder to let it 'initialize'
    4. after initialization finishes, take it and amend the settings again.

see if this helps. I sometimes get the light, sometimes i don't. According to Shochong, there should be another update coming out this week. See if that will solve the problems. Putting these aside, i still think this is an excellent car cam.

    Bro Adrianli,

Thanks for sharing. Were u in Parking Mode (the record mode code is blue)?

but video shows u were on the road?

seems a mis-sync somewhere. was ur mSD card full, and the recording is an "over-ride"?

the software does seem a little unstable.. i have voice "OFF" but every once in a while after i off ignition, our BV lady announces that the unit is shutting down. Otherwise, so far so good..

I'll check again for mine to be sure.

Once there are common bugs, I'm sure Pittasoft will act to fix if we feedback....

    bro,

there is 2 options to voice
    (a) in the BASIC tab, if you set VOICE RECORD OFF, it mean it will not record your conversation (chit chat) when you driving... this product can record video and voice
    (b) in the ETC tab, if you uncheck those items under VOICE ALARM, it should mean that the lady voice announcement are not enabled...

you are not alone, ,my friend also encountered the LED on when he check on his car. After reboot, then issue is normalised. My friend also got GPS coordinate problem, then he redo the entire SDcard and so far it is ok.

I also have BV shutdown down on me when I start my car... i installed a volt meter, and release that BV shutdown when volt meter is 12.1 (PM is set at 11.8)... compensate some difference for PM and volt meter, it seems that PM is working well. My tech subsequently help me reduce PM sensitiveness to 11.2 (or 11.3).

Overall, we are still happy with this product although we did not use others before.

    For those who experienced:
Button LED / auto reboot issue,
I have feedback to Pittasoft & they have replied that it is caused by a bug in their latest firmware update.
I am very sure its the latest v1.035 that is having problem, because before i installed any firmware update, there was no such issue before. :(
They gave me an estimated day to release the fix on Wednesday.
You are not alone, I am sure every single user of DR400 in the world is facing this bug issue if their dr400 is updated with the latest firmware..
Lets all wait for the fix, its understandable that new model firmware still has bugs tongue.gif
For new users, recommended not to do a firmware update first before everything is solved & tested by our fellow bros here including myself.
Just like any new IT projects, after deployment sure faces bugs here & there after end user testing, online gaming also, always see bug fixes too haha.
At least we should be glad that its not the physical unit that is faulty.
    Cheers!

No leh. The hilighted video is in normal mode which is on the road. I did that screenshot to show the GPS not working fully. The microSd is always full as I never remove it for one plus weeks liao. No problem for the past week until today. When the unit just hang between 2+pm until I reset the unit at 6+pm.

    bro

i noticed that when i insert my car key to ON (without cranking), the volt meter is 12.3, 12.2 and drop to 12.1 (probably becos my internal LED lights are lighted cos my door are open, HU start to boot up, hassle light blinking - all using car battery). when it drop to 12.1, my BV shutdown.

of cos, we hv to give some allowance and tolerance to both setting on power magic and volt meter, assuming the compensation is plus minus 0.1 or 0.2

hope you can see the attached pic(s).

the setting is on the POWER MAGIC module

the 1st two dip switch is the sensitivity of the voltage detection to cut off BV camera... my setting is reduce from 11.8 to 11.6
the last three dip switch is to set the hour of continue recording when car is not running.... once the hours are hit, the BV will shutdown as well. mine remains as 48 hours (depend on what you want)

Good. I have also the same problem. I have off the button LED light in the config. However, sometimes, it will still lights up. Furthermore, it will voice out when change to parking mode or normal recording but it will not voice out when I pull out the charging cable. I agreed with Shochong that I do not have this problem before upgrading the firmware.

I noticed one thing. After sunbathing the car the whole afternoon, when I got into the car and drive off, recording and GPS status light will not light up.

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting an in car camera for recording if some idiot hits me (as happened yesterday), and then tries to argue that it wasn't his fault (when it clearly was!).

I'm thinking of the BlackVUE DR400 as the images look good for day and night (as well as can be expected at night anyway). I wanted to ask if the heat issues mentioned are a real problem? Also wanted to ask about the power magic device mentioned - is it easy to source this in the UK?

The other one I'm looking at is the HawkEye Full HD, which I think is the same as the DvrSecurityXuite - 5.0 MP DSX05GP having looked at them both. Does anyone have any experience of this model, certainly the youtube clips look nice and clear at both day and night.

rented an MPV in Japan. It had mini or pinhole cameras..:

    1. in the wing mirror housings

    2. at the back (top)

    3. in the front (top, integrated into the rearview mirror attachment to the windscreen)

dunno if these are wired to dvr..., but the locations of cam's should cover the entire exterior of the vehicle except maybe the roof. That's really the way to go, maybe some car manufacturers will in future include as original spec's?

u can even choose an "overhead" view of your vehicle while parking... shows everything in a circle around your vehicle. Amazing, and can be very helpful!

BMW X3 already have the Overhead view of the car surroundings during parking. Its Original spec in this car.

    Damn swee... the X3 wub.gif

This 360 degree coverage is what I am trying to achieve, as my front n back already covered. only the sides not, and side swipes are hard to prove... Maybe go China buy the mini cams and install next to wing mirror.... smile.gif

Putting these aside, i still think this is an excellent car cam.

referring to step 2 above, if format it, wouldn't there be no firmware for the bv to operate???

once you do a format, when you put in an empty card, it will go 'initializing the SD card'

what i understand from Xavier is that, when you do an upgrade to the unit, the unit copies the contents of the firmware to the unit. and when you insert an empty card with absolutely nothing inside. it will copy the contents from unit back onto SD card to operate.

Unless u willing to keep taking it off the windscreen whenever u park ur car at a public carpark. It is definately a thief magnet if left on the dashboard.

If u are going to do the above, a 720p handphone camera will be able to do the same job.

I always keep my garmin when not in use.
