If you didn't exceed the parameters = it's not enough to trigger as an event? Think about it this way, my event files will not be overwrited. So if i were to 'record' so many events, i find myself taking out the SD card every now and then just to delete the event files? This will somehow defeat the purpose of an ease free DVR?

If you want to record a certain event down, then i guess the only way is to buy a bigger card, once go back home export it out or
switch off the cam, bring home export it out to your computer? or
buy another SD card, when you have an event, swap it ?

You can set the sensitivity on the DR400, but you dont' want it so sensitive that it starts recording after every bump in the road, so its needs to be set quite "insensitive".

I understand what you are saying and I can see why this will work for you.. But for me, I would find the inconvenience of taking hte card out each time I see an event and 'extracting' it from the live normal video, than taking it out to backup the events.

The thing I have a problem with, with manufacturers is the lack of flexibility they build in.. Its sofware.. It can do almost anything.. Why not make all the features available and let the customer choose.

Personally for my application, I would rather forgo the parking mode and use the button to store an 'event' instead.. Pittasoft have confirmed that this was the original functionality but they remove it... So it looks like I will have to adopt the practice of hitting the camera to trigger an event to make it work how I want.. I am sure this will work, but its hardly scientific!

I just don't get why they would allow this feature IF someone (like me) wanted it... It makes no sense.

A few months back there was a topic on this. Got one bro was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint by an officer (who spotted his cam) and they questioned him for a few hours, then released.

Last month I went in JB, I on the cam cos I observed they don't check out-going cars. But when I drove back in, I totally removed it, so as not to stir any trouble cos I know they will detail check all in-coming cars.

As a Singaporean, I'm more concerned at the Malaysia side, and not the Singapore side. So at Malaysia side, I go for the Green Lane, so won't get checked at all.

What? Questioned for a few hours? Looks like I had better disconnect the DC cable to the cam when crossing chk points. Only worry is I will forget to do so.

Hi bro, u mentioned "I set my recorder to overwrite files first in first out" , correct me if i m wrong, i thought this is default? where to set the option for this? blink.gif

It's default feature, but IIRC we can choose one more mode... not so sure now after being "questioned" by you tongue.gif . SD card inside car now, so cannot test out.

If u disconnect the cable, u might as well remove the whole cam.
If your cam is small and can be hidden well, maybe u can take a chance. But mine is not fully hidden behind the rear mirror, so if the officer carefully looked, still can spot it.

It really depends on your own comfort level lor (when u cross the checkpoints). Me don't want to create any trouble, as I also travel with my family...

Not a Blackvue user, but why not follow the manual's recommended setting first and adjust from there to ur liking.

I would recommend to set to 30fps so that the video will be smooth n not jerky due to lack of frame rates.

how come? I leave my Garmin in my car everyday. Never got so hot that i cant touch. But the location i put is top right, the visor area there.

if you do leave it at your windscreen, I suggest not to leave it there to invite thiefs. At the end of the day, to replace windscreen or windows will cost more than the GPS itself.

solar film only helps when you are driving with the a/c on. one you park under the sun, no film can help ... my $1k 3M film also sucks big time when parked under the sun.

once i even resorted to cutting corrugated cardboard to the size of my windows and placing the cardboard there to block the sun when parking !! that will work.

i use the cardboard to block out sunlight and the greenhouse effect inside the car .... i once left my hp in the car and only realized it a few hours later ... when i went to my car to get my phone, the screen was like darkened !! but it managed to recover after a while in the aircon office.

it was abit troublesome ... having to put up the board when parking and then removing them when driving off ... but it works.

    How 'cheap' is your cheap?

I think like you too, video quality is third importance to me. First importance is able to record without lags, and don't 'black-out' suddenly. Second is affordability.

U want to capture hit-n-run then u get one cam with motion detector, or run yr cam 24/7. Yr 'cheap DVR' comes with motion detection function?

    only cost $50+
there is motion detector but the battery life can last about 5hrs+
no point of getting cheap camera with poor video image. even if you can capture hit&run vehical you can't capture their number plate

I think got to do with the solar film's heat rejection? My solar film less than $100 but then got a significant difference from no solar film. Park for 2-3hours under the hot sun and the interior is alittle warm only. Can put your hand on the dashboard for as long as you want. Before I installed my solar film sure can't touch the dashboard for more than 2s if park under hot sun for a few hours.

News today reported that 3 taxi companies will call for tender to buy cams for all their cabs! About 4,000 cabs will be equiped with cams once all are installed.

This is good news, as I see it. It will make the cams more popular, and perhaps make it cheaper. Cab drivers will also drive better since they know their behavior will be recorded. Other car drivers will also drive more proper knowing more vehicles now have cams to record any reckless driving....IMHO, yeah tongue.gif

But the question is will the taxi operators report their own cab drivers if the video capture evidence of the cabby violate traffic offenses like driving in bus lane, stopping at double yellow/zigzag, speeding above speed limit, reckless driving, etc..........

imo, cabbies are more inclined to protect themselves in case of accident with the video proof.

its unlikely they wud want to waste time reporting irregular driving habits on the roads.

They would have to surrender the video if there's a proper complain made to the authorities like TP & LTA, and the authorities request for it.

Its beneficial to the taxi companies too in a way they can track which driver is always reckless, etc and take appropriate action before something happens.

Autobacs sells very good products but mostly are expensive. I saw their cams before when I went there. For the price they set, you can easily get it outside with more features.
You have to ask the Autobacs staff to give u a demo if u want it.

Still can see the front car plate. But I think the cam is adjusting the focus due to the glaring light on the top left of the video. Even my DOD-tec cams also like that when driving facing the sun.

Unless u using a DSLR or pro-sumer camera that u can pin-point which part of the screen u wana focus. Otherwise its up to the cam's internal circuitry to determine where to focus.

Then if this is the case, the cam is pretty redundant as an evidence, it can only prove the occuriing of an incident but unable to pinpoint specifics involve. Does it happen the same as your 580?

Yes, its the same for my GSE580 too. But you still can make out the front number plate. The other option is to turn on ur headlights and the cam should be able to capture the front car plate number clearly.

Cameras have the option of a flashlight, our car cam dont. So turn on ur headlights. wink.gif

Got my Blackvue DR400-G HD. It is a nice slim cylindrical shaped car cam and can be well hidden from view.

There is only one button on its exterior which is to activate parking mode only. All the settings has to be done thru the PC via the microSD card. Just like my previous car cam from korea, DRS1100PRO, open its proprietary software and adjust all the settings there. Their software is one of the most comprehensive one I have seen to date. The video is encoded in mp4 format so even w/o the software, u can use other video player to view the recorded video unlike my previous DRS1100PRO where the recorded video is encoded in its own proprietary format.

So far I only selected Full HD resolution n 30fps. The captured video is clear and sharp. The night video is the clearest I ever seen, beating the DOD-tech GSE580 hands down. For daytime video, both DR400-G n GSE580 are same. Coupled with a 120 degrees lens, it provides sufficent coverage area, from one end of the A pillar to the other.

The only dislike I find is the recording time frame. Settings only allow 1 to 3 mins long is allowed. If I would like to make a road trip video, I would have to link all the files together using my own video editing software. Also any change of settings, u got to remove ur microSD card n plug it into a PC. Unlike the rest of other car cam with LCD screen where u can change the settings instantly.

The other downside is this unit runs hot, I meant physically hot. It reached 58.0 degrees on my infra red thermometer somewhere near the speaker vent. It is the hottest running car cam I have. Therefore I am afraid of the life span of the unit.

The lack of a LCD screen also kept me holding back on my purchase. But I tot, wat the hell, just buy lah. laugh.gif It is an excellent replacement for my aged DRS1100PRO.

Here is a short comparison video between Blackvue DR400-G HD and DOD-tec GSE580 taken last night. Notice that the DR400-G has its GPS km/h indicated whereas, the GSE580 not showing it. The GSE580 GPS really a let down, I suspect they are using an older GPS chip so locking on Sat is not instant. DR400-G locks on to Sat almost instantly like my Garmin GPS.

Black Vue indeed looks more sharp and crisp. But without LCD, then how to position the cam properly. BTW does it come with motion detect function?

Yes, it comes with motion sensor. The sensitivity can be adjusted in its settings.

According to the manual, there are two ways to position the cam. One is to use the provided video cable and link it to a video display screen. Another way is, there is a printed word Blackvue on the Parking mode button which is on the side. The wording is horizontal with the lens, so use the wording as a guide to adjust the lens.

I used the video cable and plug it into my Nextbase DVD player to install my Blackvue.

Its clear cut that Blackvue beats GSE580 hands-down. But what are their price differences?

Although the Blackvue is better, the GSE580 picture quality is still consider very good already, if compare to many other cams.

Price difference for my sets is abt S$80, Blackvue being more expensive. But features wise, both also differ a lot. Both of these are the leading car cam in the market now. Cost me a tidy sum too!!! bigcry.gif If I dont buy these car cams, I think I can buy my Song NEX-3 or 5 liao. Picture quality easily beats all car cam hands down. laugh.gif

But the good thing abt GSE580 is, if u meet an accident n u dont have a camera to take pics of ur vehicle damage, simply use the GSE580. Its meant as a personal camera too!!! The Blackvue cant do that. laugh.gif

currently i am selling this product at $89 , if you are interested you can contact drop me at 98596262.
    cash and carry.

Used and throw ..!! price too low...
anything less than $100... compare to your car value than worth more than $50,000 , it is only a fraction of it..

Bro , if you need 2 car len view , i got one.. for your reference at S$145, last few pcs left.. it is dual lens..
my advise is to get 2 low end type to fix front and back...
becasue the inside view u can only see partial of it... unless your car is those with large side window and hatch back..

yeah man, most impt thing is nothing happened to anyone. else, damn troublesome to handle the aftermath.

even if something should happened, the camera can help testify that the piu kia driving the piugeot is in fault as he didn't check for oncoming vehicles and filter in. I kena before but I was at fault, victim was a motorcyclist.
